New thread and ever hopeful as we move into second trimester that we'll all feel wonderful soon...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
littlestgirlguide · 19/08/2013 12:40

Misskat, if it helps, I'm normally a 12-14 on top as well and find that h&m maternity tops in a Large fit fine. Had to try a size 18 in trousers though to get them to fit my calves! I do not have fat legs.

Sassy20 · 19/08/2013 13:47

I've gone for comfort now and am in maternity leggings and a maternity dress at work today Smile

I find h&m sizes small. I'm normally a 12 in their trousers but am a 14 in their maternity ones!

sunflowered · 19/08/2013 14:20

Am very jealous of your talk of bumps and maternity clothes! People who know keep looking closely for a bump but it's still def just me, not the bean.

After a very active few weeks doing up the house I seem to have actually lost weight instead of putting it on since booking in. Am very glad I've got a scan to reassure me this week that something's still happening.

Shropshiremummy2bLaFay · 19/08/2013 14:33

I refuse to weigh myself but am confident i've put on something between three and four tonnes. I didn't get weighed at my 16 week appointment, should I be a) Concerned that she forgot, or b) Really grateful as I would have broken the scales? Answers on a postcard to Mrs. La Fay, Somewhere with a pie in one hand and a bag of crisps in t'other, Shropshire. x

gnittinggnome · 19/08/2013 14:52

I was weighed at the booking in, and haven't been since. Which is nice, because at the booking in (10 weeks) she worked out my BMI and found it to just tip over into the least desirable category, which I think was a little unfair, given my boobs grew two cup sizes in the first four weeks... If they were going to keep measuring my BMI when I'm carrying two people I'd be seriously annoyed!

BTW, it could be worse: when I lived in neurotic Singapore, my model-shaped friend (tall, slender, athletic) was told to only put on the baby weight, eg only what the baby would come out weighing, and scolded for developing a teeny tiny paunch. At 6 months. Fortunately, my friend was sufficiently French she completely ignored the Dr and carried on regardless, having two beautiful children and still has a flat stomach.

marzipanned · 19/08/2013 14:52

Shropshire it's (c) she was too busy thinking about having her way with a dashing stranger named Percy she met that weekend.

sunflowered - yes, give me a slap too when I start whinging about my enormous bump. DH is convinced there's something there. The truth is there's nothing there that wasn't always there, I was just never as skinny as he thought!

My MIL yanked my top up when she last saw me to 'look for a bump'. I believe this is the beginning of pregnancy your-body-doesn't-belong-to-you-any-more Hmm

misskatamari · 19/08/2013 14:54

ch1134 I'm with you on the task avoidance! Sitting down to some school work now but have been planning on doing at for about a week thus far! I'm secondary too, most of my dept know i'm pg but yeah want to wait until after 20 weeks scan to really make it common knowledge. Luckily mine is on the 16th so pretty soon too. A week of trying to hold my belly in then I should feel okay telling people. Don't really want my classes to find out too soon if possible though - I've got pretty much all bottom sets this term (thanks HoD) and quite a lot of "characters" so don't want them to think "oh she'll be off soon" and play up - great for the old stress levels!

marzipanned good luck with the doppler! I got the angel sounds one and didn't have any luck at first but i left it a coupld of days (to avoid letting myself get obsessed with trying and worried if it couldnt find the hb) and managed to find it quite easily on my 3rd go. Just make sure you start with volume on low as it is so LOUD when you move the doppler off your skin and back on again!

Good luck at the hospital Vix - hopefully they will put your mind at rest about a smooth labour this time around Smile

Gosh Shropshire - I am the same with feeling like i've put on tonnes! I feel like a I just look like I am fat now tho! Sometimes I think it does look like I have a baby bump - but it could just look like I ate all the pies and crisps too! Hoping it starts looking more "baby" soon!

Thanks for the tips about H+M clothes ladies - fingers crossed they do fit okay. I usually find with trousers I need to go up a size. Was hard with the tops as it was 14-16 or 18-20 which I thought would be too big. Hoping I don't need to get much else now - possibly a skirt but I haven't seen many around so we shall see!

Thingymajigs · 19/08/2013 14:59

Yep, definitely go up a size in h&m maternity. I'm normally a 10 jeans and I've bought a 12 in h&m. Although I have already put on 7 lbs so far. Spent yesterday afternoon taking up both pairs of maternity jeans by 4 inches because they only make them for tall people. Short people obviously aren't expected to breed.

misskatamari · 19/08/2013 14:59

Lol marzipanned - that's so rude! MIL would get a punch if she tried that - along with anyone else! My aunt did pat my belly the other day, i was a bit "errrr" - it was at the top and everything (so just fat!).

Is anyone else still feeling really tired? I'm much less nauseous thank god and am eating okay but absolutely exhausted! Most days I could have a nap quite easily a few hours after getting up. Aren't we supposed to get a burst of energy soon so that we can clean up our houses and actually prepare for having to look after another human etc?

Oh dear i appear to have not started any of my planning yet either....

misskatamari · 19/08/2013 15:00

Gosh it must be so annoying having to take things up thingy. I'm 5'8 so have the other problem. Not tall enough for "tall" clothes so just end up with ankle flappers!

ch1134 · 19/08/2013 15:29

I've decided not to do any work until Weds. That will give me 3 days to get it all done, as the following week I'm away. I think spending more than 3 days would be a waste and leave me with guilt that I haven't started and make me feel like a bad person. I'm focusing on cleaning today!

marzipanned · 19/08/2013 15:52

Thanks missk ! She is normally amazing so I was really taken aback - otherwise I think I might have said something!

Yep, I'm still enormously tired. I'm in bed by 11pm and doze back off after DH leaves for work at 7.30 - am in and out of sleep until about 10am. Then feel desperate for a nap in the afternoon, though am trying not to as I usually wake up feeling really sick from naps.

I have decided that everything about the second trimester being a time of enormous energy and glow is a crock of shite designed to get you through the torture of the first trimester! Or maybe things really will be wonderful around 20 weeks...

Incidentally, I love MN for this. All my other pregnancy bumpf says at 14/15 weeks "Your morning sickness will have passed, and you can now start to really enjoy your pregnancy" whereas on MN it says something like "you might still be feeling sick, fat, pissed off, etc, etc..." Grin

misskatamari · 19/08/2013 16:03

Lol that's good to know its not just me marzipanned! Don't know how ill cope back at work as at the moment I need to eat nonstop and nap/sit comatose frequently! I agree that it's just lies to get you through the horror of the first trimester!!! I do feel better to be fair but I want to be this energetic pregnancy unicorn that you always hear about!

Ch1134 I applaud you for having the motivation to clean and tidy! My house looks like a bomb has hit it! Every day I think "oh ill tidy today - how nice for DH to get home to a lovely house" and then I just about manage to do the kitchen and cook tea by which time it's a mess again! My clothes are also super clean as I do each load about 3 times before I am actually arsed to hang it up to dry!

sunflowered · 19/08/2013 16:21

Me too - I have short bursts of energy interspersed with long naps and screaming hormonal rage. Dh was doing the must-do tasks in the wrong order at the weekend and bought some nice little things for the house. Wrong move, obviously... doing nice things and being helpful... I hope the evil bitch phase passes soon Sad

vix206 · 19/08/2013 16:23

Feeling better having discussed things with my consultant.

Plan is basically :

  1. Offer enema on arrival at hospital
  2. Offer early epidural if I'm not coping (hope I will be fine but nice to have reassurance after being refused last time at Leicester)
  3. Cannula on arrival and blood bags ready for transfusion
Also checking iron at 36 weeks and giving injection if less than 11.

Feeling happier about it now.

pettyprudence · 19/08/2013 16:41

me and ds have just woken from our afternoon nap Grin
sunflower my tummy is bulging but i just look fat. it is fat. im not slim but not frigging enormous either. last time I didn't look preganant until about 26 weeks. my local newsagent just thought id eaten too many pies Shock
my house is also a tip because a) we recently moved in to a do-er-up-er and b) I cant be arsed. just remembered that I booked cleaners during my last pg until nesting kicked in and I went cleaning crazy. Shock

vix206 · 19/08/2013 17:02

I'm so envious. DS gave up his nap at the start of the summer. (And we both started the day at 3.45 am today again)...

pettyprudence · 19/08/2013 17:20

oh no vix! We were using a gro clock until recently and it was working a treat at keeping ds in bed (he likes rules) but now hes figured out that if you just keep pressing the buttons you can make the sun come out whenever you want Shock

vix206 · 19/08/2013 17:38

Gro clock is fab but unfortunately DS is struggling with nightmares at the moment. It's been 2 weeks of hell at night in our household after almost 2 years of perfect sleep!! ConfusedConfusedConfused

vix206 · 19/08/2013 17:39

Our gro clock is on a high shelf that DS can't reach (wicked laugh)

sunflowered · 19/08/2013 17:56

Glad your appointment went well vix Smile

Littleen · 19/08/2013 18:20

Grats on bump arrival girls! Weird question perhaps - but will it still show even if you're overweight/obese? I'm worried I will not have a bump ever, because I have a fat belly :o

DawnOfTheDee · 19/08/2013 19:11

Littleen it will show but might take a wee bit longer! Depends how rotund you are in the first place I think and how you carry your bump Smile

DawnOfTheDee · 19/08/2013 19:13

Vix - glad things went well with your consultant. When do you see him/her next? I see mine straight after my 20 week scan.

vix206 · 19/08/2013 19:42

Dawn. I've got no need to see her again but she's left it open so if something crops up I can see her, so that's good. Just can't wait to get my scan date through, 18 weeks tomorrow Grin
