diddle · 15/06/2006 11:28

congrats bubbly and everyone else who have popped their babies out.

41wks today. midwife is visiting at some point, i'm going to try and convince her to do another sweep, although i know she has the opinion that if one doesn't work then its nto worht trying another. i'll see if i can sway her. hopefully then she will tell me i have dilated to ten centimetres and next time i go and put the kettle on baby will drop out Grin i can dream can't i??

only 5 days left until induction, still time, and its so weird knowing that this time next week i could quite possibly be holding my baby. how exciting.

docket · 15/06/2006 11:32

well done bubbly and hope to read more announcements soon.

am now 40+ 6 and bored bored bored. i am not going to be induced until i am 42 weeks, think i might try some reflexology, if nothing else it might be pleasant.

read an interesting thread the other day (which i cannot now find) saying that actually the average length of gestation is 41 weeks, not 40, in other european countries they work to this. might explain why so many of us are 'overdue'...

LilacWine · 15/06/2006 12:22

hi girls, congratulations on all new mums & babies!!! and i really feel for all who are overdue. must say the thing that probably set off my labour properly was a curry the night before and lots of rocking on the birth ball!

i've now fully recovered and DS is doing really well. he's now 11 lbs 10 oz at 12 days old! quite proud of myself as i am now back in pre-pregnancy jeans Grin

vbab78 · 15/06/2006 18:15

Advice ... what sort of order are the signs associated with labour supposed to happen?

It's just that for the last couple of hours have been needing (rushing) to go to the toilet for a wee to hardly do anything and what I do is clear. I've been caught short a couple of times Blush. SORRY FOR THE DETAIL not everyone would want to know.

I wondered if it was maybe my waters just trickling rather than the gush we are normally told to expect? If it was my waters should I be in pain or does that come later? I've been having those occasional back pains I have mentioned before but that’s it no show or anything.

Please help.

Laura032004 · 15/06/2006 20:31

vbab78 - things could happen in any order. Was the baby engaged before? I found once ds was starting to engage, I needed to go to the loo a lot more often. If your waters had gone without a gush, you could have a hind water leak rather than the forewaters. Your waters could break without any pain or contractions at all. If you do think that they have gone, the advice your MW would probably give you would be to wear a pad, and monitor how much fluid you are losing. They can test this fluid at the hospital to see if it is your waters or not. Apparently they smell like straw?!? When mine broke, ds had passed meconium, so you can imagine that they didn't smell straw like!

Was your due date based upon a scan at/before 12 weeks? If so, then you are bound to be any day now. I do hope this is the start of things for you :)

again ho hum. am 40+4 and according to hospital u would think I had been pregnant for about 2 years!! They are desperate to manually remove this baby from me. why why why.. potential placenta failure they say!

booked for c/s on Tuesday anyway and see what happens in the mean time.

Birth Announcement

Baby Charlie Alexander was born last night at 9.49pm, weighing 6lbs 3oz after a very short labour lasting 1hr 10 mins ! I was induced at 39 weeks due to waters breaking.

Had the needle put into my hand ready to prep for the epidural, but then felt the need to push! Delivered him 5 mins later!
Therefore managed with gas & air and 2 co-codamol!! (and me a total wimp, too!!! Grin )

He is tiny, gorgeous and I am totally besotted with him!!

All the best to those of you waiting for your little treasures too xx

Laura032004 · 15/06/2006 21:05

CONGRATULATIONS Bubley and Kathryn,
Saw the midwife yesturday baby is engaged and i am booked in for a sweep on monday if baby hasnt shown up by then. She said there is no way they will induce me be for i am 14 days over,
No sign of anything happening yet i am so sick of waiting now. Sad

AdelaideS · 15/06/2006 21:34

Congratulations Kathryn...love the name.

Mitchell81 · 15/06/2006 22:38

Congratulations Kathryn and welcome baby Charlie Alexander. What a quick arrival.
Thank you Laura, I am first on the list so hopefully won't need to wait much later than 9:30am

vbab78 · 16/06/2006 07:14

Congrats Kathryn Grin really happy for you.

vbab78 · 16/06/2006 07:23

Laura thanks for the advice. Baby has been 3/5 engaged since April apparently. Baby was dated by the growth scan done at 20 weeks. It was just weird how for that short time I needed to go more urgently than normal. I also had some lower back pain and stinging in my bits.

However I've woke up this morning, feeling terrible due to an awful nights sleep Sad but with nothing any different which makes me even more depressed. I feel fed up anyway but things half happening all the time, expecting things to happen then nothing is just beyond a joke. Feel so depressed, like everyone who is overdue, and I feel that the longer things go on (now 41+3) I'm losing excitement and interest. Isn't that awful. Sad

emkana · 16/06/2006 08:15

vbab78 - not awful at all, I'm 41 + 2 today and feel exactly the same way.

Sorry if you mentioned this further down - have you been given an induction date yet?
I've resigned myself to being induced now, next Monday.

Hang in there!

vbab78 · 16/06/2006 08:25

emkana - I am booked to go in for induction Monday tea time when I am 41+6. Sad

I think I will end up being induced too. I know birth plans aren't necessarily meant to go to plan but I really didn't want to spend more time than absolutely necessary in hospital and do as much naturally as I could manage at home. The idea of induction for me just ruins everything I wanted.

congrats morethan1 and kathryn!

saw midwife today 38 weeks, baby fully engaged still and in best possible position for labour apparently so just waiting for things to start happening! :) xx

CaptainDippy · 16/06/2006 12:07

happybebe - I think someone's already asked you this, but are you the same as the poster at Christmas who was posting under the name santabebe?? We are trying to find her!! Smile

All the best all you bumpees!! Grin

CaptainDippy · 16/06/2006 12:07

Blush ...and congrats to all those who have "unbumped"!! Grin

AdelaideS · 16/06/2006 12:49

surroundedbyboys and Mitchell81....hope things have gone smoothly for you.
I have veeeery mild periody type pains and I'm about to go to the school fete...I'm on the "treasure map" stall. Slightly nervous as last labour was so quick....Pleease don't let me give birth in the school playground...my kids would never forgive me Blush

RachelPross · 16/06/2006 14:19

Congrats to all you lucky girls who have de-bumped since I last posted. Am sat on my birthing ball wishing my bump away as we speak. :(
Am now 39 + 2 and feeling v fed up. Can't imagine what I'll be like when I get past 40 wks. Am finding that my back is so painful in bed at night that I can't sleep as every time I move the agony wakes me up....surely this isn't normal??! It's fine in the daytime but the min i get into bed it starts again...GRRR, v tired and desperate now. Woke dh up this morning as was sat at top of stairs crying cos I just didn't know what to do with myself to make it better!!!
No sign of things progressing here, baby is 3/5 engaged and has been for 2 weeks now, been walking, eating spicy food and cleaning like a mad woman but to no avail....could be reson for bad back tho so will be laying off the activity for a bit till it improves.
Hope the rest of you are well and coping with the heat, will admit I am quite enjoying it as at least I can go out and sit in the garden, the sunshine does cheer me up. :)

AdelaideS · 16/06/2006 19:12

Aaah, Rachel...poor you...no advice as I haven't really experienced such backache...just lots of sympathy.

PomsMum · 16/06/2006 19:59

Pom is going to have to share.....

After my seemingly futile attempts to speed the arrival of the bump through activity I decided to sit on the sofa and eat chocolate last night.

Lo and behold my waters broke at 6pm and at 11pm DD2 - Hettie (8lbs 8oz)- arrived in the birthpool on our sitting room floor. The student midwife arrived just in time to encourage delivery of the head, and the 'real' midwives arrived a contraction later to delivery the shoulders.

Pain relief with such tardy midwives ends up being restricted to 3 paracetamol and a glass of water......

By 1.25am this morning the house was empty and quiet and the whole family sleeping peacefully. Bliss.

A quick, easy, stressfree homebirth experience for all involved (and best of all DH had something to do - inflate and fill the pool, direct the midwives to the house etc etc - no chance to read the papers this time.....!!)

Hope that all other homebirthers and those still waiting have a similar experience.
