Yup joining the jealous boat seems like baby will be in here forever

rrreow · 09/06/2013 22:30

Z is feeding well but also has a touch of jaundice. It's normal I think? As long as it doesn't get worse. His nose gets a bit yellow between feeds but then visibly pinks up again during a feed.

Latching on the other hand is proving a bit hit & miss. He cluster fed from 12am-4.30am last night. Was feeling so despairing by the end of it. Trying to feed him lying down so I could rest but he can't latch properly when I'm lying down so my nipples were sooo sore this morning. Left side has recovered now but right side still agony.

rrreow · 09/06/2013 22:32

sunny definitely get sleep. I went into labour at 11pm so after a full day awake and was so exhausted by the end of it.

PseudoBadger · 09/06/2013 22:34

Sorry just eavesdropping as I was on this bus but dropped off at 12 weeks....
Congratulations to you all on your arrivals, and I hope the rest of you aren't waiting for too long Flowers
Red - I'm afraid I still have numbness after my section 2 and a half years ago! It's much better than it was but still there.

ella0 · 09/06/2013 22:55

Thanks everyone.

I don't have any numbness between the belly button and bikini line - just patchy numbness along the wound (I was in pain with a stitch pulling the other night; I could have done with being numb there then!).

Rrreow, I'm experiencing the same with latching on being hit and miss and the cluster feeding - oh, the cluster feeding! I'd never even heard of it before experiencing it - it's a nightmare! It's supposed to happen during the evening which I wouldn't mind, but I've had it between 12-5am and also in the day when family came to visit (and I'm not confident enough to feed in public yet). I'm limited with positions having had a c-section.

AmIGoingMad · 09/06/2013 23:19

Congratulations knomski!

I hope that this really is go for you sunny! And pink!

Also hope that your day has improved hawk?

I have to ask-what is cluster feeding?!

Glad that you've found a good way forward for you, DH and Polly Sarah. I found that the formula feeding really helped DH get really involved from the beginning with DS and its making me question my decision to attempt breast feeding this time.

No signs as such here. Think I've been loosing plug bit by bit for a while now and am starting to have those period type aches back and forth, but I mean once every 8-10 hours or so so I'm thinking that's probably the bh that I had no clue about!

forgetmenots · 09/06/2013 23:29

Flowers psuedobadger hope you're on another thread soon.
I've been so rubbish at posting, still in hospital but both doing well :) thanks so much for all the congrats, in love with my beautiful DS :)

redwellybluewelly · 10/06/2013 00:45

So tired.

Stupidly didn't sleep today when we got home from the hospital, DD2 has been a piggy with feeding this evening which means she now has wind. Have had to bring her onto the bed which I really really didn't want to do because she keeps waking DD1 and DH. I can't lift hee in and out of bed nest, my CS is gut wrenching agony and the spinal site is painful too. Bit of a pity party here I'm afraid.

morning all.

congratulations to those I've missed and for those just starting good luck! Those of you still waiting - it won't be long and then you'll look back and wonder where the time has gone!

Violet had her weigh in yesterday 9% lost, but mw happy with everything. Smile

we've had a couple of nights of the constant cluster feeding at similar Times! last night much better and I actually feel like I got some sleep!!

're the jaundice my mw said yesterday perfectly normal just make sure I don't leave more than 3 hours between feeds. help keep her alert.

AmIGoingMad · 10/06/2013 07:31

Aw red. I'm sure it'll start to get a bit better soon. Make sure you take care of yourself and try to get a bit of sleep at every opportunity. Although I imagine that's a bit more difficult this time with a toddler to think of aswell- that's scaring me a bit at the moment to be honest!

I hope everyone has good days today and that there's more movement- unless you're aloha and would like baby to stay put for a bit!Smile

Mawgatron · 10/06/2013 08:42

Sorry you are still struggling red. Not that I am the voice of experience, but I am sure it will get easier.

Another one here with no clue what cluster feeding is. Trying hard not to doubt myself in terms of deciding to breast feed. Midwives/ nhs/ everyone in medical profession make out like it is so easy, everyone can do it, it shouldn't hurt etc, but then pretty much every single person finds it really hard to do in reality! And (being a complete selfish cow) it is going to be so limiting for me. Still months more of no drinking, no let up unless I pump etc. I have all these doubts and he isn't even here yet...is anyone going straight to formula feeding and not feeling shitty about it?

Still no symptoms here either. Got midwife this afternoon, might mention sweep on the off chance but I suspect she will tell me to sit it out...

SunnyL · 10/06/2013 09:03

Took the good advice and went to bed. Think I've been awake since 2am thou. Seemed like every time I put my book down to go to sleep I'd get another contraction. They're still about 30 minutes apart so baby isn't imminent but we're about to take the dog for a walk to see if we can't move things along a little. Really want baby today as tomorrow is our wedding anniversary and don't want to share it!

Positive vibes to all those that are waiting to meet little ones. Maybe today will be the day?

curiousgeorgie · 10/06/2013 09:03

Mawgatron - I'm going to be formula feeding from the start and feel fine about it.

I had a breast surgery a few years ago which would make it quite difficult so with my 2 year old I formula fed from day 1 and she's healthy, happy, slept through from 7 weeks, doesn't seem to have any allergies and is incredibly bright (her 2 year check put her somewhere in the region of a 3-4 year old cognitively)

I'm not saying this was because of formula feeding of course, but the fact that I have had absolutely no problems as a result of it and she has thrived and was nothing but a joy and an easy baby, means that I feel perfectly happy about doing it again.

It's also a lot easier for me I know.. Friends have struggled with breast feeding and had no sleep etc, whereas I can share with DH and it just feels a lot more convenient.

In other news, I'm 38 weeks and I REALLY want this baby out!! Spent all weekend gardening, picked up the pram and spring cleaned. My back is killing me!!

MrsBri · 10/06/2013 09:10

Ha, Maw! I'm at the midwife today too and considered mentioning a sweep. Seriously doubt she would oblige though as it is totally against NICE guidelines. Boo!

Our breast feeding teacher said it could hurt to breast feed, but that once baby has learned how to do it then this should stop. It's a latching issue, apparently, and attaching to the wrong part of the breast. But new babies don't come born knowing, sadly!

I'll be trying to BF, but won't beat myself up if I end up swapping to FF.

MrsBri · 10/06/2013 09:13

Sunny, did you say your LO is back to back? They're renowned for (very) long latent labours. Sorry :-(

I would get as much rest as you can as this could be a long haul. Fingers crossed it isn't though.

RueDeWakening · 10/06/2013 10:24

Mawg - why not try BFing for a day or two and see how you go? The colostrum in the first few days is fab for passing on antibodies etc, MWs call it liquid gold, so even if you decide not to BF long term, any is better than none. M has had some formula, but is mostly BFed, it works for us - I express one feed (4ish oz) every day, that feed gets topped up with formula if he's still hungry, DH gives the bottle(s) in the evening while I get some rest.

rrreow - 3 1/2 weeks on, I'm still finding BFing fairly painful, at least during the latch. I went back to basics yesterday and realised that I'd got sloppy with his positioning, have corrected that and it's been much better since - I wasn't bringing his head round enough so his nose wasn't touching, which was clearly pulling me in the wrong direction.

Red - I don't have any/much numbness afaik, at least not so I've noticed. I hope things get easier for you soon - are you still on the hospital painkillers, and are you taking them on time/to schedule? I found that really helped, as I'd generally take the next lot of pain relief slightly before the previous lot wore off, so the pain never really built up. I hate taking painkillers generally, so it was difficult for me to do, but it really did help a lot. I noticed if I missed some or was late taking them! (It also took the edge of BFing pain too...).

Pink - glad Violet is doing well :) hope the jaundice stays under control and she gains weight asap!

Sunny, MrsBri, everyone else still waiting - hope the babies start to make an appearance soon (except for Aloha, who can keep hers inside till she's ready :o )

SunnyL · 10/06/2013 10:46

Yes MrsBri back to back so likely to be a long one. Actually I have a lot of history of getting kidney stones (12 at last count) and I would liken these contractions to passing a kidney stone just with a nicer ending!

Keeping busy cleaning the fish tank, tidying the house and walking the dog today with the hope it may crank up at some point.

MrsBri · 10/06/2013 10:57

Please make sure you rest, Sunny. My friend's back to back labour was 60 hours!

Nap if you can. :-)

curlyclaz13 · 10/06/2013 11:43

back from 40wk check, tried and failed to do a sweep ( didn't tell me it didn't work but read my notes) head only 4/5 engaged and booked for induction on 21st. Really want to avoid induction as I want a water birth. sitting on my ball rocking and bouncing eating prunes (she thought I might be blocked up and that's why he hasn't dropped down) and trying not to get upset.

pinkapples · 10/06/2013 12:26

Do they book for an induction then at your 40 week? I've got mine tomorrow?

learnermummy · 10/06/2013 12:48

Curly can they not try another sweep next week when you'll likely be more favourable?

Sunny, sorry to say but my back to back labour had a very long latent phase Hmm. And he was finally born the day after our wedding anniversary - hard to celebrate now!

Mawgatron, bf does hurt to begin with, mainly because you're not used to doing that with you nipples so often! Midwife once said to me - if I was to start digging the garden for 10 mins every couple of hours I'd get a blister. Made me feel better that I was doing it wrong! Once you get the hang of it it is such an easy option, and you can combination feed - my DH did bedtime formula from early on. Obviously it's completely up to you though! I don't completely abstain from alcohol when feeding either. I can really recommend the mybrestfriend cushion - gives you amazing back support and baby support esp for bigger babies which makes it easier to direct baby for a good latch. It is pricey but has great second hand value.

curlyclaz13 · 10/06/2013 12:49

Mw said that is normal here, booked for 40 +12 though.
She should have booked me for another check at 41 but said they don't do that, checked with mw aunt who said I should have had one booked so have done that now. one upside is a new mw led unit is due to open anytime so hopefully that will happen before lazy baby decides to make an appearance.

learnermummy · 10/06/2013 13:18

Plenty of time yet curly, don't worry.

curiousgeorgie · 10/06/2013 14:15

I've just been for a scan and first there was a fire at the hospital and everyone had to wait outside for an hour...

And secondly apparently my baby is already 8lb 5 at 38 weeks!! How big is she going to be!? Confused
