I tried absolutely everything in my last pregnancy from 37 weeks onwards. Long walks, bouncing on a ball, clary sage in a bath, on a tissue or on my bump, epo taken and inserted, raspberry leaf capsules, sex, nipple stimulation, hot curry, eating pineapple, driving down a bumpy road, gin, blowing up balloons and jumping up and down... (I even relented and tried the 'semen taken orally' that was suggested to me!! Tmi?)

I went 14 days overdue and ended up with a c section. I honestly believe nothing works. It just makes you knackered! Wink

AlohaMama · 05/06/2013 20:05

bit late but congrats devil Smile

Sounds like hard work curious Grin. Think I'll take your approach and just get on with life as normal. This baby will come when she comes...

AmI - I finally got some energy to do a bit of cooking. Made lasagne, jambalaya (rice goes a bit mushy after freezing but still tastes good). I freeze everything: fish cakes, moussaka, lemon chicken, quiche (not exactly batch cooking but you could make a couple), curries, delia's moroccan chicken with chickpeas and lemon and olives, courgette feta and pinenut filo pie. Hope some of those count as 'summery'.

Mawgatron · 05/06/2013 20:17

Another batch cooker here. I have done butternut squash and finger soup, bolognese, lasagna, chilli, carbonara, shepherds pie and stewed fruit after my little market trip this afternoon. Plan on doing some fish pie too. Mmmmm. Fish pie...

Mawgatron · 05/06/2013 20:17

Ha ha, ginger, not finger soup...

AlohaMama · 05/06/2013 20:22

And on a side note, if berries are cheap right now, they freeze really well, spread out on baking tray (so they don't all stick together) then when they're frozen tip them into a zip lock bag. Then you have healthy dessert options too.

must try the finger soup mawg Wink

learnermummy · 05/06/2013 20:26

Gosh curious, you did try everything! Actually think it was the sweeps that did it for me in the end last time but DS2 was 16 days late Shock.

Sunny that's awful, not heard of that scam before.

I've only batch cooked shepherds pie and bolognaise sauce so far and my freezer's quite full. Just eaten a lovely Moroccan lamb with apricots that would freeze well.

redwellybluewelly · 05/06/2013 20:28

I think finger soup sounds fab!

I've batch cooked a lemon drizzle cake, banana loaf and carrot cake. Weve got pork, choziro and butterbean tagine, bolognaise, beef casserole, quiches, bought pizza and kievs, chips and waffles. I went out today and stocked up on salad and fresh fruit. And I've done a load of mini meals for DD.

Snack bag will have frusli bars, grapes, apples, bananas, peppermint tea, flat Lucozade, and squash. DH pointed out today that visitors will happily bring in food in exchange for a cuddle!

I haven't room to batch cook, well freeze, anything because my freezer is full of ice creamBlush
I tend to.not really like food once it's defrosted, im s bit of a weirdo, I only like things cooked by a couple of people as well so think it's possibly just best to keep meat frozen, which I have quite a bit and just abuse my tagine and slow cooker when I decide what I want ...

pinkapples · 05/06/2013 21:06

I'm the same steff and have decided against batch cooking though commend you ladies that have

I think I have a fear of soggy meals

Sarah2506 · 05/06/2013 21:57

I went to Tesco. In their freezer section they have bags of frozen risotto and other similar wok dishes. Literally empty into a wok and heat through. Only a couple of quid. You'd probably struggle to cook cheaper. Batch cooking without the effort. Then bought some escalopes and kievs, frozen veg and lasagne and cottage pie that are good for a few weeks. Job done!

redwellybluewelly · 05/06/2013 22:19

We didn't batch cook the first time, I had no freezer, loads of people offered to help and I had a slightly greater confidence in my DH's cooking ability than he did.

I ate a lot of sausages, chips and beans. Looking back I should have roped in my relatives! Also DD has multiple and annoying food intolerences so we do have to do a lot of home cooking.

Anyone else get hot flushes at night?

OP posts:
learnermummy · 05/06/2013 22:20

I like your strategy Sarah!

Have tonight discovered a weird sore bit on my bump that feels really bruised. It's about the size of a 50p and is painful to the touch Sad. Doesn't look any different to the rest. Have midwife apt tomorrow so will check it out then.

RueDeWakening · 05/06/2013 22:23

Could have sworn I posted on here earlier today, clearly I've lost the plot :o

Anyway, M got weighed again today, and thankfully has put weight on again so now comes in at 4.6kgs. Still 3% under his birth weight though, so we're back on Saturday to see the MWs again. I wish they'd discharge him, he's clearly fine and just slow to regain the weight - probably due to being such a porker. Still, we're (hopefully!) getting there slowly.

AmIGoingMad · 05/06/2013 22:46

Glad that you're getting there rue! That's great news!Smile

The sounds like a good plan on the frozen straight to wok stuff Sarah- will add to my shopping list.

Also- thanks for the suggestions and the link to the good food website- I've noted down some ideas! I love Good Food- made their chicken and chorizo jambalaya this evening which was delicious but hasn't thought of freezing that as I thought you couldn't freeze rice? Aloha you mentioned freezing jambalaya tho- any special process for the rice freezing?

This little one has been a bit quiet today so I was starting to get a little worried. But now that I'm laying in bed she's started going loopy again so that's reassured me thankfully!

Red- I'm with you on the hot flushes at night. Lovely aren't they!

Olimoss · 05/06/2013 22:55

Red - I had an elective Csection so any advice or info i can give you bout how it went/my recovery you're more than welcome to!

FWIW I was so mobile the day after they would've discharged me 'cept Joe got sick.

AlohaMama · 05/06/2013 22:57

red no hot flushes at night, but yyy if i have a cup of tea. almost puts me off tea, which is saying something for me!

AmI - I just make sure I serve out the jambalaya into a cold tupperware and put into the fridge straight away so it can cool down quickly. It does mean the rice maybe looses a bit of it's texture (a bit mushy) but I still think it tastes nice. I don't add prawns till I re-heat as those go too chewy if you cook them, then reheat them again. I may be violating all sorts of food safety guidelines on the rice, but I've never got sick yet!

AlohaMama · 05/06/2013 23:01

AmI -- just checked online. I think other than the texture issue for rice, it's safe to freeze as long as you cool it quickly, so make sure it's not sitting around at room temp. You can always spread out on something to chill before freezing so it cools quicker.

redwellybluewelly · 05/06/2013 23:11

Oli how is J? As for the CS I've managed to avoid thinking about it for the last six months but now its almost crunch time then I'm getting very very nervous, oddly mostly about things I can't control like the fact I'll have to have a catheter and IV, and not be able to move easily.

And also about the usual second/third time worries about upsetting DD's little world and how to cope with 2! Although given our first time round I'm hoping this will be a great deal easier in terms of parenting, DD is a funny creature, very fond of babies but not so sure how she will take to having to share mummy!

Red - Joe has graduated to HDU & after prematurely ripping out his own NG tube is now on the slow path of learning to feed, so far so good. He's got a strong suck & swallow reflex despite never having practiced in utero so that seems to be helping a lot. Still no idea how long he will be in fr so days are spent with him at hospital.

My catheter came out at 6am the day after an 11am Csection, the canula stayed in only slightly longer so hopefully you'll have the same. Tbh, and weirdly, the catheter was kinda convenient that first night for nt abing to eave the bed. And I managed to lift Joe onto the bed with me by having him bundled up in a muslin and hauling him out with a handful of said muslin!

Just needed a few dried apricots to get the old bowels moving by day 2, despite all the NICU stress, bleeding has pretty much stopped now, 7 days post-section, and although I blatantly haven't rested enough due to Joe's situation I've been able to walk since the spinal wore off on day 1, albeit with increasing speed & mobility by evening of day 2.

I have to say I was expecting the hysical recovery to be much harder. I mean, I am still in a bit of pain in the tummy and around scar but took the advice to be good with the offered pain meds (not usually my style) and the co-codamol & ibuprofen, if taken regularly, seems to keep the worst at bay.

I also requested they lower the screen as Joe was born, which they did, and they wrapped him & gave him to my boyfriend ASAP once breathing etc was confirmed ok (bout 30 seconds). BF then brought him to me fr a litte skin to skin, and then he had skin to skin with BF before being weighed. I then had bout 5hrs skin to skin in recovery, which was just lovely.

Hope you get what you need & want...x

Olimoss · 05/06/2013 23:50

iPad spelling errors - sorry! Hope you can make it out ....

AlohaMama · 06/06/2013 00:02

Glad to hear things are going well with Joe, Oli. Hope he keeps up the good work so you can all go home.

red I'm totally with you worrying about DS. I think I'm more worried about him than the labour!

redwellybluewelly · 06/06/2013 00:03

Thanks Oli, really helps, I'm v nervous! Have been told my best option now is to talk to the surgeon on the day, and try to make him/her recognise how much I'd appreciate them assisting me in S2S.

And my DD not only kept pulling out her NG but when she was on a ventilator she attempted to remove that too - tough and determined little cookies are the best. O hope so much you are home soon.

Just popping in to say I think my acrobat will be here soon - being monitored and looking like an induction... To be honest I'm ready as I'll ever be and can't wait, so hoping sooner rather than later!

pinkbear82 · 06/06/2013 05:51

been in hospital since mw appt yesterday morning. baby's heartbeat is all over the place. Sad

had a pessory put in last night to induce which upset bubs even more so was taken back out again. on Iv fluids. just after midnight it was looking like an emergency c section but then bubs settled a bit and they've decided to see what the morning brings.

knackered and a little wobbly but excited I'll probably get to meet bubs soon.
