Congratulations devil Smile love the name, we've used it ourselves!

elsabel · 05/06/2013 10:13

Sorry for spelling mistakes...very tired!

SunnyL · 05/06/2013 10:21

Congrats Elsa and Devil and any other new babies.

I've been taking the raspberry tablets for a couple of weeks. Other than rancid burps they they're alright. I don't suppose you will ever know if they are any good.

Yet another sunny day up here. Thinking of taking the sewing machine into the garden and making some curtains. Last time I got anything resembling Braxton hicks was after a day at the machine so maybe it can bring on labour? Certainly more entertaining than doing the ironing!

Hawkmoth · 05/06/2013 10:21

Stupid advice. Are they going to come up with the money to bridge the gap so we can go organic, and take time off work for all the extra housework with vinegar and cooking from scratch? I think not.

I really despair of pregnancy advice. It's taking advantage of vulnerable women in every possible way. Of course, women who are 'too stupid' to look at the research and make their own judgement.

Rant over. Midwife later. Feel like shit. Stupid sinuses... See now I understand why I can't take decongestants, they affect all blood vessels, including ones to your placenta... Tinned food... WTF?

Rant really over.

learnermummy · 05/06/2013 10:37

Lovely name elsabel, hope she lets you sleep today.

Not sunny here so cross stitching inside to day time telly. V jealous that you've finished yours MrsBri.

You sound like an expert seamstress Sunny Smile.

This Morning has a feature later on eating your own placenta - any takers???

rrreow · 05/06/2013 10:54

I took the raspberry leaf tablets in my last pregnancy and had a very short labour! The contractions were so strong and fast though, it was a bit traumatic. I've been taking them again this time since I think34w (although have just run out so need to get some more).

I also take evening primrose oil (two capsules orally and one inserted near the cervix, or as near to the cervix as I can get). My tip for avoiding the raspberry repeating on you is taking it just before food. If I take them on an empty stomach they give me indigestion and repeat on me.

As an aside completely unrelated to pregnancy dos/don'ts, cleaning with vinegar is definitely not more time consuming than regular cleaning products. It's pretty magical stuff actually. I don't use it for pregnancy reasons though, more for environmental and cost reasons! I also love that I don't need to wear gloves when using it because it's non-toxic (and I have very sensitive skin).

Sarah2506 · 05/06/2013 11:02

It's all really irritating, and actually a lot of the advice conflicts depending on where you get it from. For example here, according to some, anti histamine = bad. But in the States its fine. In fact things like Sominex and Nytol - which are sedating anti histamines - are routinely handed out to pregnant women who cant sleep. Here the line is not to take them, because they aren't expressly approved for that purpose, so if you take them you are made to feel like you are doing something bad and wrong!

I would love to eat organic all the time and frankly I'd love it if I had some manner of house keeper who could go out and source all this fresh stuff from farmers markets and then cook it all up for me. But who does that?! I have had friends scared to exercise in case it hurts the baby, and others who won't stick bleach down the loo. And don't get me started on caffeine! I saw the sensible midwife yesterday - she talks to me like an adult whereas the other treats me like a child. Her view is everything in moderation and just crack on, doing what you personally need to to get through. That I think is the absolute best advice.

ginauk84 · 05/06/2013 11:06

I love the name Robyn, really unusual :)

Did anyone see the item about the baby boxes in finland, looks a great little scheme:
m.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22751415

Re exposing them to chemicals etc well it's ridiculous as surely they need to be exposed to everything (within reason!) otherwise when they do come into contact with germs & chemicals they're body is going to react badly as they're not used to it. I am not one for wrapping in cotton wool and think they need to build an immune system. Though I haven't seen/heard the news item.

Day off today and it's cold and overcast, had planned for a beer garden lunchHmm Typical when I go back to work tomorrow for my last two days it will be hot and sunny!!

Not had a problem with raspberry leaf repeating on me, but then I take them with pregnacare, omega 3 and EPO so perhaps they stop them repeating. Am 37 weeks tomoz so can do a capsule of EPO in cervix then.

learnermummy · 05/06/2013 11:14

Must try the EPO insertion later - if I can reach!!

Slightly tempted by placenta encapsulation now - does that make me weird???

pinkapples · 05/06/2013 11:21

Just had a little bit of greeny/yellowy slime when I wiped? Any clues?

Steffanoid · 05/06/2013 11:22

im really confused about the raspberry leaf advice, our birth class lady said it can be dangerous if you dont get it from a specialist and talk through with them about using it in pregnancy

for tips re cooling down I've got an Evian water spray can thing, it's quite lovely Smile

Steffanoid · 05/06/2013 11:23

pink I think it's your plug coming away, I've had little bits coming every day or so

Hawkmoth · 05/06/2013 11:46

Rrreow.... Oops! TBH, I do so little cleaning I shouldn't have commented on that!

rrreow · 05/06/2013 12:05

learnermummy that's where it's made into pills right? I don't think it's weird. I am weirded out by the cooking & eating it type stuff, but making it into pills I could be on board with (although not planning it myself). I think most mammals eat their placenta?

pinkapples I've had the same the past couple of days! Little globs of slimey discharge. Brinnnggg on the mucous slug plug!

learnermummy · 05/06/2013 12:13

Yes, someone takes it away and dries it and puts it into capsules. Might google it now....

ginauk84 · 05/06/2013 12:26

Ooh that placenta thing sounds interesting I could cope with it in capsules, but I don't know about handling it - taking it home and things, am a bit squeamish with raw chicken lol.

RueDeWakening · 05/06/2013 12:42

M will be 3 weeks old tomorrow Shock and he got weighed in again today, he's gained (phew!) but is still 3% below his birth weight so still not discharged. The MW who came round was lovely and sensible though and didn't threaten us with paeds or anything - will wait and see what Saturday brings, but shall be stuffing my boobs in his mouth at every opportunity between now and then! Grin

MrsBri · 05/06/2013 13:12

Where do people live where it isn't sunny? It's bloody gorgeous up here (it's grim up north!). I just spent the morning roasting at my breast feeding class.

We get 6-8 weeks' 1-1 home support from our local authority, which is really good. All we have to do is call up to get somebody round to help. I am quite impressed as it seems that not all authorities provide such a comprehensive service.

I think I can now feel baby's head between my legs, particularly when I'm lying on my side. Feels a bit odd, it has to be said.

I'm not sure what to do with myself now I've finished the cross stitch, learner. I may have peaked too soon!

redwellybluewelly · 05/06/2013 13:13

dontmind how are you feeling today? Is Eloise feeding better and have they fixed the air con? Can I ask what you did with your phone and purse etc when you went into theatre and did you take a vest/nappy with you?

Rue good news on weight gain and also on sensible MWs!

I've had something of a breakthrough at the hospital. The feeding supporter has been in touch and is horrified by the shit poor advice I've had, skin to skin is possible its just outdated procedure which stops them and she is going to speak to the OR team and do everything she can to help us have baby straight onto me, and she remembers me from last time with DD and NICU stopping her getting access to help us feed DD.

Happy sigh. Now I just have to repack my hospital bag and think through snavks...

East Midlands MrsBri, still no sunshine here. On the upside have nearly finished the cross stitch bits - just all the outlining to do!

Good news on weight Rue. Hope things looking up for you too Red.

Off for a pedicure now Smile.

MrsBri · 05/06/2013 13:22

The outlining was the bit I put off as it bored me! At least it's done now :-)

Well done for getting nearer to the end though.

My family is based in the East Midlands. I feel a gloat coming on!

massagegirl · 05/06/2013 13:22

Wow mrs bri that is great support from your local authority. I've felt a bit on my own apart from one fantastic midwife yesterday who told me I was doing a good job. There are breast feeding support groups here so I'll try and make it along to one of those when I feel ready to leave the house.

rrreow · 05/06/2013 13:23

That's great red, good to have someone on your side.

I am so bored with work. I am SO READY to have this baby now! Going to the post office soon, maybe the walk will do something...

Steffanoid · 05/06/2013 13:25

south Cheshire here Mrs bri it's cloudy but not horrid Smile

SunnyL · 05/06/2013 13:36

Come a bit further north my lovelies - Scotland is fabulous and sunny! This is the weather I ordered for maternity leave - just hope it stays for another 6 months!

Listening to Mary Robinson in the radio right now talking about what makes us human - she's really inspirational. If anyone has a daughter I suggest we point them to her life history as an role model.
