TheFalconsmistress · 10/06/2013 10:02

I feel a little better shire been on the meds a week and a bit now my old self is coming back bit by bit. Unfortunately i have had a bug the last few days. I spent yesterday in bed!

24+1 feel good but not as reassured as I hoped I would feel. I bought the bugaboo frog in the end picking it up in a couple of weeks lots of the Cam stuff fits on it and it was 140 quid so can't complain :)

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 10/06/2013 10:11

Good Morning all...gosh, this is going to be a tricky thread to follow - I haven't had chance to post over the weekend and I'm already behind on the discussion/s

Huge sympathies to all suffering with bottom and bowel related problems. My issues are all around the 'front' (IYSWIM). My poor pelvic floor was shot to pieces after having DD (developed a uterine prolapse) and it is struggling to cope with another pregnancy. I'm already having to cross my legs everytime I sneeze and regular forceful hayfever sneezing attacks reallly, really, don't help!

Smitten - I'm holding out for the bugaboo Buffalo too. I have a second-hand Cameleon that I'm hoping will tide us over to begin with. I really want a good all terrain pushchair and I'm very tempted by the Mountain Buggies or Nipper 360 but they don't have the parent-facing seat option that we used for ages with DD. I can't imagine taking the little one on long dog walks and not being able to easily chat away to each other.

Talking of blinkin' dogs - the pesky mutt has now cut one of her ears chasing rabbits through brambles! This is the third incident in quick succession after recovering from a nasty fox (possibly badger) attack and then needing antibiotics for an infected tick bite. Honestly, I worry more about how I'll manage the dog and a baby, than how I'll manage with two children.

Irishfairy - my DP was definitely more sympathetic first time around too. Bless him, he does his best to try to hide it for my sake, but he really doesn't find pregnancy magical or exciting.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 10/06/2013 10:25

Comtesse - we have started to think about names but we're really struggling. It probably sounds daft but I love DD's name with an absolute passion (it's a bit of a marmite name but I think it's perfect) and no other name seems to come close.

I had one name that was sort of shaping up as the front-runner for a girl but DD has announced she hates it. I'm not sure how much influence to let her have over the naming decision. Half of me thinks it's a decision for DP and I alone, and the other half of me doesn't want to get their sibling relationship off on the wrong foot from the vey beginning.

Boys names seem even trickier somehow..

MotherOfNations · 10/06/2013 10:34

That sounds awful Bridget. How are you going to cope with the birth? I always feel that I'm missing out by having to have cesareans but stories like yours make me grateful.

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 10/06/2013 10:35

We're struggling with names too. DH had a really silly idea for a boy's name (Star Trek inspired) and that stuck, so when we found out it was going to be a girl it was really back to square 1. We had an idea that I really liked, but DH has gone off it a bit now - it's been his favourite name for ever, and the idea of giving it to a real person didn't feel quite right to him. We'll sort it. She won't be BabyCat for long.

cazboldy · 10/06/2013 10:45

Bridget thats a dilemma we're having too..... except that with 5 dc we are just getting lots of suggestions that not everyone likes!!!

and then dh and i cannot agree!

and with not knowing for definite what he/she is we are still having to think about names for boys and girls......

Natalieand · 10/06/2013 11:03

Bridget We're having a boy and finding names rediculously difficult too! I like Noah and Casper which I no aren't to everyone's tastes but dd is called honey and we need sumthing a little unusual to go with it. Dh is saying he likes Noah but we can't have it cos someone he knew when he was school age had a 3 year old son called Noah and p would think we're copying even tho I've been with dh 6 years and I've never even met this person (that's now much contact they don't have) lol. If I was having a girl I would have a list 100 pages long which is just typical

I no one of you ladies is on aspirin can't remember who bug I also am and I just wondered if u were having nose bleeds I seem to be getting them in the night time virtually every night and sometimes first thing in the morning

Glad u managed to find some relief MoN xx

All these cot and buggy purchases are so exciting :-)

On other news my left hip feels like its popping in and out of joint today and really quite uncomfortable - anyone else?

PseudoBadger · 10/06/2013 11:09

I'm on aspirin Natalie - no real nose bleeds but I get them quite often anyway.

We are just using our girls name from when I was pregnant with DS - boys name are tricky though I agree!

OP posts:
Natalieand · 10/06/2013 11:12

Thank you pseudo I had aspiring with dd and had the odd nose bleeds but nothing like this time I've got midwife tommorow so ill mention it then .

I think girls names are easier cos alot of them are 'pretty' or have pretty meanings so are much more appealing and boys names can sometimes sound a bit boring or samey as lots of people choose similar names if u choose something out of the mould ppl think you've chosen something weird

claphammama · 10/06/2013 11:20

irish why do you think being clingy and emotionally attached to our DHs / DPs excludes pregnancy rage and feeling constantly irritated by them? Personally, I can manage all of them at the same time Grin Grin Grin I've added you in our spreadsheet by the way

falcon congrats on crossing the 24 weeks mark and your new buggy!

bridget how old is your DD? They change their mind so easily and so quickly when they are small that I wouldn't worry. For example, DS is almost 5 and until about 3 weeks ago wanted a sister and only a sister. Then it changed totally out of the blue and now he wants only a brother (luckily as he is getting one!). The same with names - first he was adamant that the brother would have to be named Joshua and now he is not that bothered. They are so fickle at this age. He will be simply presented with the baby and the name and will have to be happy!

roxvox so funny your DH thought DH stood for d**k head! hahaha. I guess it depends on the day! :-)

Natalieand · 10/06/2013 11:30

I agree clapham dd kept saying she wanted a baby brother and now I say we're having a baby brother she magically wants a baby sister and she says she wants to call the baby Ryan which I have no idea where she's come up with that from as she's just short of 3 years old and its certainly not a name we've discussed but I'm 100% we won't be calling him Ryan lol

takingachance · 10/06/2013 12:21

I'm trying to remember if this has come up before - I know there has been chat about travelling with a young baby... but is anyone holidaying overseas this summer - just trying to decide whether it would be silly to travel to the USA when 30 weeks? Any tips or thoughts gratefully received! x

ComtessedeFrouFrou · 10/06/2013 12:24

Ugh boys' names are so hard. We settled on a girl's name and a back up really easily, but we've only just come to a decision on a boy's name. We had a sudden flash of inspiration. They are all either too popular, too naff or just plain boring!

I suspect neither of our mothers will like it, but tough!

Bridget how old is DD? Perhaps she could choose a middle name?

Flyer747 · 10/06/2013 12:32

Taking I'm travelling at 27 weeks to Greece. However we were supposed to go to china a few weeks ago but had to cancel due to DP work load, anyway we were visiting his brother who works there, and felt guilty cancelling because we were also taking DP's sister and her boyf with us. So felt we had to make it upto them some how, so have offered them a trip away at the beg of August, either Vancouver or Boston, I will be 30 weeks then, I'm a bit worried, but if I'm going anywhere I'd rather it be the USA or Canada as the health care (although astronomical) is one of the best in the world, if you get my drift! I'd only go if I can find insurance to cover me though.

What does worry me is last year on one of our flights (I wasn't operating this particular flight) to Johannesburg a lady went into labour prematurely and gave birth onboard in the back galley with only the cabin crew in hand to deliver, her baby was healthy and they diverted into the nearest airport (Palma) it happened only a few hours after taking off from heathrow, however it does worry me, very rare but still.
Although if you do have a baby onboard it gets free flights until its 18 years old so not too bad if all is ok I guess, haha!

Umlauf · 10/06/2013 12:33

Morning all! 24 weeks today for me too or last Friday if you go by my sonographer who disagrees with the midwives! but for me the milestone is next week, as that will mean only 15 weeks to go which somehow seems so much less than 16 weeks!!!

Have got everything we need except a car seat now, and both my parents and in laws have hinted they are buying it for us,could end up with 2!

I would think as long as you can get insurance and have checked with the airline you'd be fine to go to America at 30 weeks takingachance I know when I asked my midwife she said that they didn't have a problem with me traveling right up until the birth, just the travel companies that do. I'm going away until 36 weeks (in the same country though).

My swimsuits arrived today, I bought a normal one in a lot of sizes bigger. I don't know what to do as it needs to fit from 30-36 weeks and I'm 24 now. It fits wonderfully now!!! Have got boob room but no bump room. Its so hard to know how big the bump will go!! Ill try it on and stuff a jumper down there or something, will post a pic to Facebook to show you later!!!

I'm struggle with boys names too, only middle names though as first name is sorted. I really want a wacky one but DH really doesn't! At the moment I'm loving Zorion which means 'happiness' or 'celebration' in the language where I live, and is a genuine first name here, but DH thinks its stupid! He wants John!

takingachance · 10/06/2013 13:04

Thanks flyer and umlauf
flyer we will potentially be crossing the atlantic at the same time then! Will have to compare notes ;-) do you get free upgrades from your airline?
Shock at the thought of giving birth on board!! Though DH is a paramedic so at least he should have half an idea of what he's doing! Smile at the free flights though!
I also thought that I feel pretty happy with being in USA (rather than e.g. caribbean or other less developed areas) and I looked into insurance - I think someone previously had mentioned Insure and Go and they cover up to 32 weeks and I will be home by then.

umlauf I hadn't even thought about swimsuits! will have to do some research, but probably will be maternity suit for massive boobs and (by then) massive bump!!

Wickedgirl · 10/06/2013 13:25

Umlauf.........I too have everything except the car seat

The cot and crib are up and ready to go.

The clothes are all in the washing machine or tumble and then will be ironed and put into the new drawers. It's so exciting!

Irishfairy · 10/06/2013 13:32

Thanks so much claphammama,
Where can I find the link so I can have a peek at what's going on in terms of girls and boys?

I'm going to the US too, in August. I'll be 32-34 weeks. DH is from there so we have medical insurance so not too worried about that. More thinking about being in the cramped, uncomfortable seat for that long and DD is usually very good on flights but likes to sleep on me. Will have to make sure I keep walking around, do leg stretches since the risk of DVT is higher.

takingachance · 10/06/2013 13:46

yes irishfairy think I will be doing my exercises the whole time! And maybe wearing those 'sexy' dvt stockings!

Flyer747 · 10/06/2013 13:51

Taking, yes I'm very lucky I do get upgrades, so I will be hopefully sitting at the front.

As you have to advise the airline over 28 weeks, the crew are briefed/advised prior to you boarding the aircraft that they have a pregnant lady travelling, so I always go and introduce myself give lots of big bottles of water, I do try and relocate pregnant ladies to a more comfortable seat shall we say, but that really depends on the crew on the day....it's always worth asking though, no harm in that! :-)

FeministInTraining · 10/06/2013 14:18

Funkky and Roxvox I don't think it converts either- I'm hoping for a 4-5 yr age gap anyway so not an issue for me although DP keeps saying he wants another one straight away
The man that did the 'test drive' with me in mothercare was v helpful and knowledgeable, I think he would have mentioned if it was. Red is DPs favourite colour and its gender neutral imo so we're going for that one. Really don't like the grey at the bottom of the carrycot though, might see if we can get the black carrycot and the red colour pack for the pushchair...

Funny about the names, we have boys name but can't agree on girls. Keep calling bump Raffie in my head (nn for Rafael). Named after the turtle, not the tennis player or renaissance painter Grin

Umlauf · 10/06/2013 14:20

The problem is takingachance that the maternity ones seem to have tiny boob bits and no support, whereas the bra sized swimwear is much better in that department. I've tried n a few maternity tankinis and they are laughable in the boob dept. so I'm hoping against hope my bump will fit into the bigger size normal one. Otherwise I'm screwed :-(

Haylebop12 · 10/06/2013 14:54

Boys names are hard! Fortunately dh and I seem to agree on Isaac and I'm really starting to love it. It'll be Isaac David J... However I keep referring to the bump as that name and he told me he finds it weird!

natalie I like Noah Smile sod what other people think. My family and friends love Isaac but I've had some funny looks at work! Bah to em!

comtessed you wouldn't be giving that advice if you knew what dd wanted as our baby's middle name. She thinks its silly to have two daddy's (dh is David) and so would like the baby to be called Isaac shark. Hmmmm!

I'm definitely not clingy to dh, tbh I'm used to not seeing him as he works shifts which means I try and work on his days off so dd is mostly with either of us. In fact I'm dreading having him around for a month when baby is born. Sorry if that sounds ungrateful and I'm sure ill be glad of the help at the time but I've just got so used to doing a majority of everything on my own I feel he will get in the way after a while. It's lovely the time we do get to spend together but like some others in quite irritable at the moment Grin

I've got my date for leaving work 27/8 as I have two weeks holiday at the beginning ill be 34 weeks and mat leave starts at 36, only 12 weeks to go... Not that I'm counting!

Umlauf · 10/06/2013 14:57

hayle I think your dd might be onto something there, Isaac shark is awesome!

claphammama · 10/06/2013 15:03

flyer this is quite a story! I will also be 28-30 weeks when flying to and from Greece. Really hoping not to give birth then!

I also need to look into the swimsuit situation. I think the final choice of style will depend on whether I manage to avoid stretch marks also this time or whether I get them. If I manage to avoid them, two pieces seem more comfortable and cooler... saying this, my tummy was itching again last night... so the skin seems to be struggling already. Probably due to the weekend of eating and a massive Friday dinner... Controlled weight gain FAIL!

irish and everyone else - just to confirm, this is our October babies list:
