I'm in normal bras, but a larger size than previously. I'm going to go shopping for nursing bras when I start maternity leave (currently planning 37 weeks) so that I can go on a Monday morning and avoid other shoppers.

cuillereasoupe · 02/06/2013 17:21

Twenty weeks today! completely lost my appetite over the last three days, which is annoying as it's leaving me very drained. DP is being brilliant though.

Flyer747 · 02/06/2013 17:23

My sister has texted me to say that this week in the Aldi special buys they have a baby event and have lots of reasonable priced baby stuff on offer. I just had a ganders online and there does look like there are some good buys, will pay a trip tomorrow...just in the park, lovely and sunny :-)

Soupqueen · 02/06/2013 18:53

One of my friends just dropped round some baby stuff so we now have a changing mat, toddler seat, cute wee fleece, scary looking breast shields and an even scarier looking breast pump.

I had bought nothing yet, so it's good to get started Grin

Slippysnow · 02/06/2013 19:15

I love freebies, very generous people out there!

Ellie15 · 02/06/2013 19:27

I have a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks and found a nice and reasonable priced dress on amazon (saw it in a magazine first). They have a few different styles. www.amazon.co.uk/Mamalicious/e/2515507031

roofio87 · 02/06/2013 20:01

I've just got back from a weekend at my sisters armed with a suitcase bursting with maternity wear!! including some really nice jojo maman bebe dresses that I would never be able to afford so I'm made up!!
sitting on the sofa now and appreciating the piece and quiet I will only get for the next 4 months!!

OrangeBlossom2 · 02/06/2013 20:58

Just back from moving my sister, bil and niece out of ours and into their new house a month after they moved in. Back to being just me and DH for about 20 more weeks! Ah peace and quiet and things back at a low level (until we have to baby proof again!). Bliss.

MrsO27 · 02/06/2013 21:03

I have no experience of this site, but came across a website online called 'hire expectations' which rents maternity dresses/occasion wear. I have a wedding (dh is best man!) in October when I'll be over 38 weeks and considering using this site to hire something as I don't fancy shelling out a fortune for a dress I'll wear once -or potentially not at all if baby comes early! You can order dresses in advance to try on etc. so looks like it might be worth a shot.
On a separate note, does anyone have any experience of ikea cots? We don't have an Ikea locally but thinking of making the 2 hour trip to Edinburgh next weekend to check out their range of baby furniture.

OrangeBlossom2 · 02/06/2013 21:20

MrsO, ikea cots are absolutely fine and good value, however be aware they are European size so you have to buy the mattress from there too otherwise there will be a little gap that the baby could get trapped in. I guess also sheets too so that they fit.

MrsO27 · 02/06/2013 21:37

Thanks orange and am i right in thinking that sprung mattresses are better than foam?

Wickedgirl · 02/06/2013 21:40

orange .......Asda nappies are fantastic. I've recommended them to several people who have also been really happy with them.

I might try a water birth this time. With my other 3, I had a normal birth with gas and air.

The doula in me wants you all to be aware that if any of you have epidurals, you are more likely to need assistance in giving birth (ie forceps, ventouse etc). This doesn't mean that you will need help, just that its more likely.

I am hoping for a 6 hour discharge so that I can come home quickly after the baby is born. It probably won't happen but that's what I'm aiming for.

PseudoBadger · 02/06/2013 21:50

We went to my friend's garden party for her birthday his afternoon. DS had a great time running around with all the other children but now I am so worn out! My back is killing me and I can't shift a headache. Hope everyone else had a nice day.

OP posts:
Natalieand · 02/06/2013 22:08

wicked I had an epidural at 4cm and was considered high risk cos of my weight but I managed with no assistance and no stitches so its not the same for everyone xx saying that I wasn't aware of the headaches u can get for weeks after an epidural and I really did suffer with those

Glad everyone's having a lovely weekend in the sun :-)

mrso dd had a foam mattress in her cot and I never had any problems with it. Don't u think the prices of mattresses are utterly rediculous? Asda had foam ones in the baby event 120x60 (cot size not cot bed) for £19 I would have brought it if I had space to store until I needed it but didn't unfortunately

I feel so rediculously sick this evening horrible horrible

Anyone scanning tommorow?

GTbaby · 03/06/2013 00:07

Last year I bought quite a few maxi dresses from MnS, monsoon and one from matalan! All in my normal size, but all cut in a style which meant my bump grew into them perfectly.

Only maternity things I bought were a vest( waste of money, just buy long vests!) jeans , trousers and a skirt. And a band band. Mostly lived in my maxi dresses.
One I bought in summer 2011. This is now going to be 3rd summer ill be wearing it! Wonder if the maxi dress is still IN.

GTbaby · 03/06/2013 00:14

Oh and bra.
I would buy nursing bra now as you will go down in size again after birth. So could maybe use ones you buy now later?
I bought my nursing bra at 37weeks.
I must admit I bought those extender straps which are good if the back is tight but if the cup is ok. Nursing bras seem to be a bit more forgiving for changes in size.

thethreeblondies · 03/06/2013 07:17

I'm scanning today at 9.30! Eeeek! Still haven't quite decided if we want to find out sex or not, guess we will wait and see how cooperative baby is Smile

OrangeBlossom2 · 03/06/2013 07:23

Good luck blondies, looking forward to hearing about it later.

Umlauf · 03/06/2013 08:34

Hi everyone! I've been absent over the weekend as I booked a last minute trip to Madrid for our first anniversary! The weather here has been so terrible for so long (think non stop torrential rain!) that I got really fed up and checked the weather map for the nearest sunshine. It was lovely and would have liked longer, and I managed walking around the city really well despite by horrible pregnancy back pain. Also had my first offer of a seat on a crowded tube so definitely look pregnant enough now!!

I'm still in normal bras, I used to fit at bravissimo and the rule is you can wear wires as long as they fit, so they completely surround your breast tissue and sit flat in rib cage, breastbone, no boob at all. I went up from a 28g to a 30gg quickly so had to buy a new bra, and have gone up again from 30gg to 32h and bought another new one, but its really uncomfortable. I only have the one so I have to wash and dry overnight. I buy my bras on eBay from factory outlets as they work out much cheaper.

Not sure whether to just say sod it and buy a massive soft cup now though. I hate how my boobs are looking, they are massively out of proportion to the rest of me and I look ridiculous!!!

Natalieand · 03/06/2013 09:49

Oooo good luck threeblondies

Just dropped dd too playground so I'm about to eat some hot buttered toast and then clean my kitchen and bathroom floors I was shocked at how I've let my cleanliness go since I'm pregnant I noticed dust collecting in the corner of the room and as I'm not having a bad back day I thought I best take advantage lol

Is anyone else scanning today?

I'm still in my normal size bras that I wore before being preggo if I remember rightly I didn't have much of a boob increase with dd's pregnancy either and had no milk till a week after she was born.

Glad u had a nice weekend in the sunshine umlauf I'm off to Devon cliffs to a haven site on June 14th who knew I could be so excited about a haven holiday? Lol

thethreeblondies · 03/06/2013 10:26

Scan went really well, baby cooperated and everything looks good Grin Because we still couldn't decide lovely sonographer has written the sex down in a sealed envelope! Should keep us amused for a few weeks at least!

Natalieand · 03/06/2013 10:30

Awww feeling so bad for a friend atm, she's 13 weeks with her second baby and announced last week on Facebook but has just been talking to me as her blood results came back with a 1-100 downs risk due to low Papp-a on her blood results she's only 22(like me) and has a dd(like me) how would she go about finding some threads on here for support as she's undecided about whether to have an amnio or what to do with the info and I don't have any experience of that kind of thing (or how to use mumsnet except our thread lol)

Natalieand · 03/06/2013 10:31

Hehe thethreeblondies how long do u think until u open the envelope? I don't think I could handle the suspense of having it right there in front of me and not knowing lol

thethreeblondies · 03/06/2013 12:11

Not sure Natalie I'm sure we will crack sooner or later! Might get DD1 (8) to read it to us at some point, or as DH wants to know more than me I might give it to him on fathers day!

If u look on here in topics, under becoming a parent it's the antenatal tests and choices boards where your friend will find the best threads xx

Tarlia · 03/06/2013 13:39

I caught you, I caught you! At LAST I caught the end of the thread! Each day I'd read some, but it grew so quickly. Lovely to have caught up with everyone's news. Congrats on all of the lovely scans. Cannot believe how many boys there will be born in October!

Umla I'm also EU but not UK and they are weight obsessed here too with a strict 10kg rule. Funny thing is, I think I put more weight on between 36-37 weeks than any other, as I was in hospital and they kept telling me off for not ordering and eating enough food!

Whoever asked, def sprung mattresses as if you get a chunky little one the matteress will be too squashed befoe they need to move to a full bed. IKEA cots, we have one, actually the mattress cost more than the cot, but both great. We have normal elasticated cotbed sized sheets from mothercare.
