Haylebop12 · 31/05/2013 23:07

I'm sneezing this baby our anyway so don't think I'll need any pain relief Wink

livened congrats on joining our boy club!

Irishfairy · 31/05/2013 23:29

Thinking of you for Tuesday legally, hope it all goes well and the stitch helps. Must be very worrying for you at this stage.

With regards to pain relief I am going to aim for none except hopefully water Shock
With dd I was induced for being overdue and had the syntocin drip which makes contractions a lot stronger and more intense. I managed on just a TENS machine so hoping with a natural labour this time it will be a walk in the park!!! Smile Can't really plan of course and every labour is different so will have to just wait and see. I did do some hypnobirthing so will do that again.
I'm a big advocate of believing in your body and letting it make it's own pain killing endorphins, which it will so long as artificial stuff isn't introduced. (I'm not against anyone using them or wanting them at all, just not my personal preference).

chickieno1 · 01/06/2013 02:51

Congrats livened! 2 boys wow! I'm not going to find out but kind of hoping for a little brother for my ds. Healthy baby first and foremost of course.

Struggling a bit with whole birth/delivery here. I was induced at 14 days with ds and to cut a long story short ended up with emCS. I was focused on baby being ok but I think it was horrible for my dh and we re both medics so pretty clued in although neither of us have done any obs since univ lol. I wasn't very well and was exhausted after 24 hrs no sleep, at least. My dh really does not want to go through emCS again and wants elective CS. We're in Canada where care is quite medically defensive I think and the obstetrician has already booked elCS and told me risks of VBAC at first visit especially if I have to be induced. They also definitely wont let me go over 40 weeks here. I really wanted to try VBAC but dont want a traumatic experience for everyone. I can always change my mind about elective CS........

Sorry for mega post.

HotSoupDumpling · 01/06/2013 07:04

Woah, a few days without wifi as I'm holiday, and there's a tsunami of posts! Managed to skim read most of them. Congrats on all the scan news. This thread has really kept me sane... lots of reading/writing about baby madness, which gets it out of my system so I'm not such a Pregzilla in real life!

Legally, best of luck with the stitch operation. Fingers crossed for you.

Had the scan, all good, anterior placenta here too! Although I'm starting to feel the baby more and more, which is lovely. DH can't really feel them yet though.

P.S. Smitten - I think Wilbur is a lovely name!

OrangeBlossom2 · 01/06/2013 07:46

Wilbur sounds like a friendly, happy little boy and he can be Will if he wants and be a bit unusual because he's not a William.

I am looking for vouchers to start buying nappies so joined the tesco and pampers baby clubs. Just seen that Huggies have pretty much gone out of business and are only selling wipes and pull ups now. Doesn't seem to be much competition for pampers anymore. My sister said they smelt funny (not just because of the poo!) and she preferred huggies. Anyone know any other brands to try?

OrangeBlossom2 · 01/06/2013 07:48

Chickieno do you feel strongly that you would like try vbac? What direction was your incision?

MrsAFlowerpot · 01/06/2013 08:41

Chickieno we are in a similar situation. I had EMCS under GA with DD due to complications. It was hideously traumatic, especially for DH who said he couldnt stop the panic that something would happen to DD and I. it was also horrible for me not to "be there" at DD's birth and came out of the blue after a textbook pregnancy. I have an appt with the consultant at 28 weeks to confirm my decision. I dont know what it will be though!

roofio87 · 01/06/2013 09:24

orange my mil works in a nursery and says that the asda own brand are good enough.for little tiny babies, maybe as they get a big bigger and there loads are a little more substantial then pampers are better, but we're just going to go with asda for now!

FeministInTraining · 01/06/2013 09:30

Legally sending you Brew and lots of positive thoughts, must be so stressful.

Assuming I remain low risk I will be in a midwife led unit with no access to an epidural Shock unless I kick up a fuss and get them to move me upstairs to the delivery ward in the same hospital. Hoping I can manage with gas and air and will look into hiring a tens machine maybe just for while I'm still at home.

Was supposed to be starting antenatal yoga this morning but spent yesterday afternoon on a mission to find a new car which included quite a bit of walking and am still tired now! All to no avail, the car we looked at had some issues that weren't disclosed in the ad. Grrr. Hopefully yoga will start next week. Irishfairy can you recommend any hypnobrthing DVDs or CDs? I'm really interested in giving it a go.

Congratulations hotsoupdumpling and textbook on good scans, sorry if I missed anyone out.

FeministInTraining · 01/06/2013 09:33

Ooh the nappies- my mum subscribes to which, Aldi nappies were at the top with Pampers. I can't get the link up as I'm not a subscriber. She sent a pic of the summary though, I will put it on the FB group and then if anyone knows how to put it on here then please do!

OrangeBlossom2 · 01/06/2013 09:36

Thanks roofio and feminist

Haylebop12 · 01/06/2013 09:43

I shall probably be using Sainsbury's Nappies since I work there and I get discount. Now and again they increase it to 15/20% so shall be stocking up Grin

roofio87 · 01/06/2013 09:49

yes I've also heard v good things about the aldi ones!!

Soupqueen · 01/06/2013 10:19

Morning!

legally thinking of you and hope it all goes well on Tuesday.

Nappies - I'm hoping to use reusable ones but might use disposable for the first few weeks, apparently they can go through 10-12 per day (!) and I'm not sure I could cope with the washing on top of the massive adjustment of getting used to having a baby. We have no tumble dry or outside drying space so I'm possibly being overly optimistic, but I think it can work. Apart from anything else, have a fortnightly rubbish pick up and I dread to think what our bin would smell like with 2 weeks worth of dirty nappies in it, yuck!!

Pain relief- I'm hoping to be in the midwife led unit in a birthing pool (it's in the same building as the hospital, so if I need intervention they'll just wheel me down the corridor). I do have a high pain threshold but my concern is DH and how he will cope with me being in pain. I don't want to feel pushed into things I don't want, but know he'll be wanting me to go for max pain relief possible at every step. I'm hoping the NCT classes will make him at least a little more comfortable. Of course, I have no idea what will happen so am keeping an open mind.

In other news, I have SPD and sciatica Sad so my aim of being active and fit throughout pregnancy is no longer realistic. Ach well, at least neither condition affect the baby!

LostMySocks · 01/06/2013 11:01

My goodness you are all so organised. I haven't event started th

LostMySocks · 01/06/2013 11:06

That should be thinking about buying thigs yet. All I know is that I'd prefer a midwife unit. Think DH would too as he gets twitchy about needles and stuff (but won't admit it)

More excitingly I felt the baby move last night. Just a quick light pressure on my right side when I was lying on my tummy (22 weeks but bump still only just visible). Was starting to get impatient. Poor DH. I ran down stairs to tell him and he wanted me to sit by him so he could hold his hand on my tummy and he was really sad that he couldn't feel it too. Don't think he quite gets the fact that it may take longer to feel on the outside.

TheFalconsmistress · 01/06/2013 11:41

I got nappies through today 2 itti bitti d.lish small all in ones they are gorgeous so soft and lovely, but I can't tell about absorbancy yet obviously but they have good reviews and you can get them from 10 pound on Amazon Smile

textbook · 01/06/2013 12:14

Just had my private scan - it's a GIRL! My dd is absolutely thrilled, although my dp is clearly trying to hide disappointment Smile

I'm happy I get to reuse all of dd's clothes and save a bit of money. Plus I know what I'm doing with girls.

Will add myself to the spreadsheet when I get home.

TheFalconsmistress · 01/06/2013 12:38

Yey come and join us in the girl club textbook Grin

Shootingstarsandcomets · 01/06/2013 13:05

mrso midwives always say no expressing before 4 weeks however at the start because I had a section a month before my due date I had no milk. I really wanted to breastfeed but my milk took over a week to come in so ds was getting dehydrated. I fed him on breast then expressed and topped him up with formula. By week 2 he was breastfeeding perfectly but I kept up expressing so that DH could do the 'dream feed'. What tends to happen though is that you need to express then anyway as you have sore full boobs that need milking! And the midwife is right on breastfeeding every two hours but its only for the start once babies tummy gets bigger it gets so much easier and from having done both methods of feeding I still think breastfeeding is easier once you get past the early weeks.

roofio87 · 01/06/2013 16:17

I've just changed my 9 month old niece's nappy and lets just say if that hasn't prepared me for changing dirty nappies then I don't know what will!!Wink

MrsO27 · 01/06/2013 16:29

Thanks shooting I do like the idea of DH doing at least one feed, as does he. I'm trying to avoid what's happened to some of my friends where they've just exhausted themselves bf round the clock in the early days and then had to give up. Good to know that expressing worked for you in the early weeks. I really want to give bf a good shot!

xuntitledx · 01/06/2013 17:29

Scanned again this week and definitely a boy :D

Made a list of all the clothes bought and given so far so we can see what we still need to buy, also bought the pram but no furniture yet until hubby empties and clears the spare room!

Advised that I also have an anterior placenta but we can feel strong movement and kicks if I lie flat on my back and hubby presses quite firm, lovely moments!

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather this weekend!

BreeWannabe · 01/06/2013 17:55

Hi ladies, just back from ordering our car seat-got ridiculously excited :) :) We went for an isofix base too as it looks really easy to use and means no messing around with seatbelts etc.

Next is the cot (gift from lovely inlaws) and some kind of feeding rocking chair. Haven't bought any small things yet though. I think I'll need to start on a list of what we'll need by the time he/she arrives-despite research I still feel a little clueless!

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine x
