Natalie we started buying some bits after the 12 week scan but now on hold as we're having to buy furniture for new house!

We've found a pram (and car seat) through a friend of a friend but we don't physically have it yet.

Don't have a cot, mattress, blankets, baby bath (or prop), nappies, any type of feeding apparatus (not sure what I'm doing yet!), sling, changing bag, birth plan...the list goes on!

legallyblond · 31/05/2013 14:35

Hi all

Things a bit worrying here after today's scan (23 weeks)... With twins at my stage, they measure your cervix to check length - short cervix = risk of early labour. Unfortunately, mine is below the "acceptable" window for twin pregs. 25mm is bottom end for twins, 15 for singletons.. I am 21mm, so no problem with DD (was never measured though!) but short to hold twins to term. It's So.... I am having a cervical stitch on Tuesday! General anaesthetic etc... If all goes well, the aim is that gives me a much better chance of getting to term. The risk is that the stitch provokes early labour now, which would mean I'd lose them (I'll be 23+3)... But, spent ages with the consultant (him, not a registrar, yay!!) and he feels I should have the procedure as the potential benefits far outweigh the risks. Still horribly nerve wracking though!

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/05/2013 15:00

Legally how worrying for you. Will be thinking of you on Tuesday then.

Is there any chance they could wait a little longer, say to 24 weeks rather than 23+3, the magical "chance of survival" date, just in case it did cause labour?I am sure you already thought of this and talked about it with the consultant.

legallyblond · 31/05/2013 15:10

He wanted to do it today, but I had eaten and then there are no slots on Mon. The longer it's left, the more risks there are because I could (no-one knows) be close to labour.... Thats what we're trying to stop. We discussed the "24 week" mark. Although they would try to save the babies at that stage, the chances remain very slim and the chances of long term damage/disability if they did survive are very high.... So waiting until then would produce a whole new set if worries...

Shirehobbit · 31/05/2013 15:14

Woah legally - so much to consider/take on board.

Absolutely everything crossed for Tuesday Flowers

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/05/2013 15:20

Wow ok. I guess you can only go on the advice they give you. I presume the risk of labour because of it must be a lot lower than the risk of going into labour naturally. Did you have someone with you? Have You now? I hope so. Biscuit Brew

roofio87 · 31/05/2013 15:32

legally very worrying for you, but hopefully it will be work perfectly and keep those little ones in there as long as possible!!

I've bought loads for this baby, but I'm a very over excited first time mum!! dp bought some gorgeous 'very hungry caterpillar' clothes today and I went a bit mad in the wool shop buying some more bits to knit!! been to southport for the day and its been roasting!! on bus home now and a lovely man offered me his seat!!Smile

claphammama · 31/05/2013 15:47

oh legally how worrying... sending you Flowers and Brew and Wine. Will they be able to tell you pretty much right after the op if you are safe and out of the danger zone or will you need to wait a couple of days to know? Hope you can take Monday off work and relax? X

textbook · 31/05/2013 15:52

Thinking of you legally and hope that all goes well on Tuesday. I know a couple of people who've had a stitch put in and it worked fantastically in both cases.

My scan went very well, everything present and correct (although baby did have its head in its hands for part of it - obviously having a hard time in there already!)

No gender news as it had its legs all squished together, but we are going for a private scan tomorrow as dd got so excited that she might find out today, and is now heartbroken! The scan place near me just happened to have a cancellation for tomorrow, so I might be able to add myself to the spreadsheet then Smile

Finally felt brave enough to buy the baby some things - will post pics on Facebook later on.

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/05/2013 15:56

Glad the scan was good today textbook and that they could see everything (except the sex!) this time. Hope to,or row goes well and baby cooperates for you then.

chickieno1 · 31/05/2013 17:21

Thinking of you legally. Try and take it easy over the weekend.

chickieno1 · 31/05/2013 17:26

Congrats on healthy baby textbook

Have not bought anything for Babba yet, maybe after scan next Wednesday ? Not going to find out sex so will be gender neutral mainly. We ll use a lot of stuff from ds regardless :)

Have to get buggy, cot, mattress, car seat........ Hoping to maybe borrow some stuff from friends if at all possible. Unfortunately can't get things back from friends now as not in London anymore. Should be ok

Natalieand · 31/05/2013 17:32

Oh no not so good news legally at least they can do something too help prevent it! Did the consultant tell u the risk of labour caused from the stitch in %

Excellent news on today's scan text and exciting u get to have an extra look tommorow :-)

Shootingstarsandcomets · 31/05/2013 18:56

Gosh legally will be thinking of you on Tuesday. Rest up this weekend if you can. They must think the risk of the op is much lower than risk of early labour or they wouldn't do it.

Bronzemoth · 31/05/2013 19:03

Sending hugs to you legally. I'm sure if you do get he Percentage as Natalieand suggests it will be super low they normally just warn you of all risks however small. Saying that I'm sure I would be equally as worried in your situation - all you can do is trust the consultant...

I had my scan last Friday - all good although the bub is quite tubby! Most measurements were on or above the median except his body circumference which was around 97%.

The scan ladies asked quite a lot of questions about the background to my Polyp and wrote an email to the consultant about if my cervix need to be measured but I've not heard back (which is apparently good news). We got free photos two because of a half an hour wait. Given its the NHS we certainly hadn't complained or moaned to anyone so it was a nice bonus.

Its been a pretty stressful week at work but at least its now Friday.

MrsAFlowerpot · 31/05/2013 19:08

Thinking of you legally - the waut between now and Tuesday will be tough I'm sure.

We've bought a moses basket and changing station but nothing else really. I ended up giving away stolen by family practically everything after DD so having to get almost everything.

MotherOfNations · 31/05/2013 19:32

I hope all goes well Legally. I can well understand how worried you must be feeling. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Natalieand · 31/05/2013 19:50

I think I'm ready to kill my husband!! We are skint this month as a result of his appendix removal and its his uncles 40th party tommorow I've said for weeks I have nothing to wear that fits me his response '' oh you'll be ok " tonight I just tried a few things on as we will need to leave tommorow like 20 mins after he gets home from work so wanted opinions in advance and his response to everything was 'your wearing that?' 'You can't wear that' I literally want to kill him right now as I can only get maternity trousers off of simply be cos I'm already over weight. ATM I'm refusing to go to the party call me childish

GTbaby · 31/05/2013 20:11

Legally big hugs. Can u be signed of sick for a week so you have a chance for extreme bed rest? Take advantage of any help you can have n rest as much as possible. All our thoughts will be with you. X

For those worried about not enough time to buy stuff. Don't! I got everything at 8months. Lol. After my baby shower. You end up research do much online, best discounts are online.

MrsO27 · 31/05/2013 20:37

clapham I'm not sure about the nightfeed, she encourages keeping the 10.30pm feed though so wonder if that keeps milk production going although she suggests expressing one bottle a day at first and using that for the 10.30pm feed (so u can get your partner to do it and you can go to bed). Will definetely need to reread it. Maybe you express at night to keep things going. A lot to take in! My midwife had the initial bf chat with me at my 16 week appt. and she said no expressing until at least 4 weeks and that I'll be breastfeeding initially every 2 hours! Exhausting! GF's routine does sound better than that but might read the baby whisperer to compare.
I've not thought about pain relief yet. This is my first so not sure what to expect Shock
Hope all goes well for you on Tuesday legally

Haylebop12 · 31/05/2013 22:08

legally will definitely be thinking of you on Tuesday with absolutely everything crossed.

Re. Pain relief. I had gas and air with dd and one shot of pethidine at around 6-7 cm. it took the edge off, I think. Tbh I just got onwith it but I was very lucky to have a 12 hour labour that was completely straightforward. Once my waters were popped she was out within 90 mins. I'm a bit of a soldier tbh just gotta get on with it. As of yet labour isn't scaring me but sure it will closer. Absolutely don't want to be induced or messed with at all really as I strongly believe that my labour was down to everything happening very naturally. If that makes sense.

Thinking about a water birth. Not sure how they work since you have to "book" it Hmm who knows!

Racheld33 · 31/05/2013 22:13

legally will be thinking of you Tuesday, I know a few people who have had this, and all gone well, try to take it easy till then Brew

As for pain relief, I was very lucky with a 6 hour labour with DS. I too am a trooper, so just got on with it with G&A. My DH jokes that I was positively happy during the labour, I definately had the 'bring it on' attitude, and was just excited to find out whether I was going to get a girl or boy!

Livened · 31/05/2013 22:19

Scan today and we are having a baby boy! Everything great apart from my high anterior placenta which is the reason for me not feeling much movement. So happy all is ok and I am going to the mum of two strapping sons ;-D. I just know my DS will be an amazing big bro, especially to his little brother x

Flyer747 · 31/05/2013 22:38

Thoughts with you legally. X

With regards to pain relief I would like to hope/try the gas and air only route, however I'm crap in pain a total wuss and feel I will possibly need all the pain relief available.

Smitten1981 · 31/05/2013 22:41

Good luck Legally. It must be very stressful but I'm sure things will be fine once the stitch is in.

I'm up at a scuzzy Travelodge in Blackburn tonight as my friends are getting married tomorrow. Trying not to look too closely in here as it's not the cleanest and is very stuffy. Sigh.

Definitely feeling baby movement now, although it's very feint. DH came up with the name Wilbur last night, I quite like it. What do you all think?
