sarahlou1uk · 02/06/2006 21:41

No, don't intend to express that much - just for first two weeks then she's going on bottle like her big brother did!

dressedupnowheretogo · 03/06/2006 09:22

sorry about my misinformation its the single one thats 90 quid with my big boobs i think using a double one would make me feel like a cow

hope your all well is nt the weather gorgous at last

eenywifemum · 03/06/2006 18:14

Hi everyone!! Sounds like you are all doing really well. Salamander and I had our 5 year anniversary yesterday, we went to Lavenham and had a lovely meal and found this AWESOME toy shop and of course bought a few things for the little one!! Then today we went to an Asparagus Festival (!) which is held every year in our village, so its been a lovely couple of days!!

BHM - I have had the exact same experience as what you described and it is so scary and painful. I've been told it is either stretching pains or Braxton Hicks which I am starting to get now (I think!) But I went to the midwife for it and they checked the baby who was totally fine so I hope that reassures you.

Arabica - I love your buggy!! Isnt ebay the best? Salamander buys and sells on it and we have got so many baby things for a great bargain!

I am finally getting over the cold I've had thank god because it was really annoying. Although I cant really sleep anymore, I sleep really lightly and am constantly waking up. IS that something that is inevitable during pregnancy?

Booby - we were going to get the manual Avent Isis pump just because it is cheaper but I am getting really concerned I will struggle with using it - I have heard like Arabica it is a lot of hard work for little milk so am thinking of getting an electric one. Salamander has offered to milk me every evening while I moo Grin sorry if tmi!

sorry for the essay!

eenywifemum · 03/06/2006 18:16

Salamander just measured me and my bump is 44 inches or 112 cm. Havent done the loo roll in a while. Someone saw me today at the Asparagus Fest. and thought the birth was imminent! I was a little mortified! haha so was she when I told her when I was due!

PinkTulips · 03/06/2006 18:57

eeny, the avent isis manual pump worked well for me once i got the hang of it. i think it depends on the type of flow you have, it would be alot of work if you've got a slow flow but i tend to spurt once i get going so worked fine for me, could even express frm one side and feed from the other at the same time, until dd learned to kick the pump!

OP posts:
sarahlou1uk · 03/06/2006 22:22

The manual pump worked fine for me first time around so will be trying this again. By the way, is anybody suffering from piles? I noticed them the other day but didn't get them first pregnancy. Bit p**d off because when I go to toilet it feels weird (TMI - I'm sorry). Next thing I know, I'll start with the varicose veins!! Sad Angry

43 babies due!

eenywifemum · 03/06/2006 22:34

sarahlou & pinktulips thanks for the breast pump advice! I WANT the manual to be ok to save the money (I know this sounds really lame but...) I have pretty weak arms!! so I was afraid I wouldnt be able to do it efficiently. will think about it some more.

Yellow how is the sponge working out for you? Grin

43 babies!! I wish we could prove we were the biggest antenatal group!

eenywifemum · 03/06/2006 22:43

sarahlou I had a piles 'incident' and it really freaked me out because I read somewhere you couldnt get them unless you had been constipated, and as I wasnt I thought it was impossible. nothing since that day has happened though so I dont know!!

hoppybird · 03/06/2006 23:47

Hello everyone, haven't been posting for a while as we've been busy decorating, but I've occasionally looked in - hugely busy thread! Glad things seem to be going well for everyone, and relieved to see that a couple of you are in the same boat as I am, and don't have a nursery ready. As someone else said (Yellowfeathers?) babies don't really need that much, except some clothes, nappies, somewhere to sleep and some kind of transport - that's assuming you don't need to sterilise bottles.

I noticed that talk has turned to breast pumps - maybe it's just me, but I really had a hard time using a manual one. ds was born early and was in SCBU for 3 weeks, and during that time, the hospital lent me an electric Medela pump, which I found worked well, although not as impressively as for some mummies, who were bringing in several bottles at a time for the SCBU freezer, compared to my two! I did get myself an Avent manual one later on, after I'd established b/f properly at home, but to be honest it was hard work for very little gain, plus the tedium of sterilising stuff, which really is tedious if you're used to breastfeeding. I guess because I didn't need to, I didn't persevere (didn't return to working outside the home), but I'm impressed with women who are able to use a manual pump, in fact any pump, efficiently and well. I personally found a manual one to be a struggle. Just my 2p worth - don't let me put anyone off! Apparently the NCT hire out electric ones, if I'm not mistaken?

hoppybird · 04/06/2006 12:24

In fact, go here for more information about

dressedupnowheretogo · 04/06/2006 14:12

congratulations eeny and sal on your fifth anniversary glad ou had a nice time i must say when we celebrated our first wedding anniversay in february it was lovely knowing our first baby was also on the way

hubby has been working all weekend but is extremely happy as it hasbeen brick work and he does floorlaying 99% of the time bless him

im slighlty offended how extreme peoples comments are regards my stretch marks ive got loads and they're huge and red or purple and as i like get my belly out for comment and i like rubbing it skin to skin ive had blimey cover them up theyre disgusting oh my god you'll never wear a bikini again and ive never seen anything like it Angry

i beleive its because ive not put any weight on anywhere else but how dare they has any one else had rude comments or do i just attract bad vibes

hope your all well

PinkTulips · 04/06/2006 16:59

can sympathise on the stretch marks booby, got really awful purple gashes all over my boobs and a few on my sides last time. didn't get any comments on them or i'd have killed someone though! if it makes you feel better they pretty much completely faded after dd was born and i haven't gotton any this time so hopefully yours will do the same Smile

OP posts:
eenywifemum · 04/06/2006 19:38

booby you poor thing getting comments like that about stretch marks!! Those people need to be slapped! I have to say I havent got any yet but I am pretty much positive I will before its all over!

hoppybird thanks for the info and link about pumps. it is one of those things I wish you could try before you buy! so some more thinking about all the different options is definitely in order.

today went to pick up my bambino mio birth to potty nappy pack but they didnt have it in stock so will have to go back next weekend. I was really looking forward to coming home and trying all the nappies out on my teddy bears! but on the plus side they CAN get ALL the nappy covers in the prints, rather than a mix of white covers and printed covers - that is what I wanted but last time they didnt think it was possible. So I am happy about that!

Everybody enjoy the nice weather this weekend?

Misty10 · 04/06/2006 20:09

Hi guys, didnt manage to log on during the week when hubby was away ... and now he is away again ... miss his terrible.

We have been busy in the garden and can now sit out on new deck and view our lawn (last month only had decorative pebbles .. very alan titchmarsh and not baby friendly !). I must say I have been puffin and pantin all day, dont really like it this hot at all, feel pathetic but my bump is pretty big for 7 months I think and finding it hard work, have also got really puffy right ankle ... looks like an elephants foot so hubby rekons ...

I dont have stretch marks yet, have been wackin on the body butter tho in an attempt to ward them off. Hubby not very flattering tho, he has said over the past 7 months, he finds pregnant women scary, he doesnt like the look at them, thinks having a baby is like havin an alien in your belly, he doesnt want to be there at the birth (but he will be !!!) etc etc so I have put up with those sorts of remarks, he also said I have materialised into a weilderbeast .. I think because I have put on 2stone 4 and all seems to be on my tummy ... I look like a weeble ! ah well.

My back is really killing me, will speak to midwife on wed, and book a massage I think. Also got hay fever, and nothing to take so they tell me in boots. Pants !

On the plus side, cot is up and now the nursery has everything in it apart from babes.... keep going in there, cant wait for babes to make an appearance.

dressedupnowheretogo · 04/06/2006 23:14

have used a tube full of palmers cocoa butter a tub of bio oil most of my freebie body butter from boots and half of my avon stretch mark cream have been using them since i found out and got my first one in february so no hope havent got any on boobs tho but inside of my thighs and in my pubes tho sorry tmi?

got a glucose tolerance test so blood taken at half eight then got to drink liquid glucose then more blood so will be at hospital for around three hours as have got to see consultant as well and ive got to go on my own so not toohappy

must say weather has been fab hope i stays thisa way

eenywifemum · 05/06/2006 00:09

Good luck with your test Booby. Sorry you have to go on your own!

As soon as I found out I was pregnant I started putting baby oil on my bump, breasts & thighs to ward off stretch marks - then I got a bad rash in exactly those places so stopped using the baby oil and after about 2 weeks it went away. I thought baby oil was totally safe to use! It is after all, for babies!!

Misty that's too bad that your DH is not being very flattering right now - I dont know about you but I would be really hurt. I am so insecure lately and need a lot of reassurance from Salamander. Dont feel bad about being big for 7 months, people KEEP asking me if I am pregnant with twins so sometimes I wonder if I am too big too but everyone carries it differently and your MW would say if it was a problem. It's just really uncomfortable in hot weather!!

PinkTulips · 05/06/2006 00:32

poor misty, what an ass your dh is being! i feel consious enough of my body at the minute, if i didn't have the reassurance of dp telling me i look fine and getting all turned on by my new curviness and huge boobs i think i'd cry!

why doesn't your dh want to be at the birth? its not like he has to se anything too gross if he doesn't want to (dp was barred from 'that' end during dd's birthWink), he's just supposed to give you moral support and let you yell at him!

OP posts:
hoppybird · 05/06/2006 10:41

Morning everyone!

Misty, so your dh "finds pregnant women scary" etc, etc... I am aghast that he should be so insensitive - you need to remember (and remind him) that you are in the most magnificent stage of womanhood. Your body is making a human being, and it's an amazing thing to do. You don't have to put up with those kind of remarks. Or, indeed the stretchmark remarks that you're getting, Booby. Any other comments should be met with "Don't be ridiculous. I'm magnificent." And 'fat' comments, even made in jest, met with "I'm pregnant. What's your excuse?" There's no need for people to be so personal about your appearance, just because you're pregnant.

Everyone has some kind of sensitive issue, and people wouldn't dare say, for example, "Look at your horrible acne, it's really flared up today!" or things of that nature. Pregnant women (and new mothers) seem to be targets for everyone's comments, because people just don't know what to say, and don't know how to react to them. Even if you don't feel it at the time, tell yourself you're experiencing THE most amazing part of being a woman - jobs, careers, looks, youth all come and go - the fact that you are brave enough to put your body through this process (and change your life forever afterwards) is one of the single greatest things an average woman can do. In the face of that, disparaging comments are worth nothing.

Oops. Got a bit carried away with the rant there.

Eeny, re: baby oil. That's a mineral oil made made from liquid paraffin. Something more natural might not bring you out in a rash. Have a look at this site \link{http://www.little-green-nursery.co.uk\The Little Green Nursery}- it has lots of properly natural products (unlike some high street brands). The 'About Us' and 'Information' sections are an interesting read.

olivo · 05/06/2006 10:59

Hi everyone! Can't belive people are getting remarks - although if one more person comments on my size again, i may just have to smack them - i've only been away for a week!!Grin

had the most frustrating weekend - my dad and his partner have been staying since thursday but I have found it really stressful, just the general trying to keep the place tidy, cooking for them, entertaining etc. yesterday, dh and i managed to escape for a few hours, first on our tour of the maternity ward and then out to sit in the sun for a couple of hours . i even had my first swim of the year! anyway, I am at work today and they are going home tomorrow so it'll soon be back to normal. god, i probably sound horrible Blush sorry to sound so mean!

olivo · 05/06/2006 11:00

on the plus side, he's started to paint the 'nursery' though!! Wink

Salamander · 05/06/2006 11:16

Speaking as a member of the MALE sex I can honestly say that I find some DH/DPs remarks quite bizarre.

They can come on here and talk to me if they want to exchange some views... Wink

When your other half is going through this amazing event the ONLY things occupying your mind should be AWE, WONDER, SUPPORT & LOVE.

I am amazed at what Eeny is doing and know that I would struggle with it so badly.

The next time a man (any man) makes a remark, ask them how they would do in the same position.

How would they like losing all their dignity?
How would they like being treated like cattle?
How would they like to carry a suitcase around on their stomachs for a year?
How would they like to lose control of their emotions for weeks, months on end?

The list goes on, and on, and on...

I have only the greatest respect for all of your pregnant mums out there, and can honestly say that I am honoured to witness, and be a part of, this much creation.

Rant Over... Smile

Salamander

melsy · 05/06/2006 11:19

melsy · 05/06/2006 11:21

oooh Sal your post has made me all teary , what a wonderful sensitive and knowing man you are. Bless you x.

YellowFeathers · 05/06/2006 11:59

Morning all!

(Melsy will come and talk to you in a bit Smile)

Lots of discussions, breast pumps, stretch marks, husbands, decorating!

Can't comment on the breast pumps as I never got the chance to try mine last time round (I got an Avent Isis) and because we didn't BF I gave it to the HV to pass on to another new mum.
Not sure how successful BF will be this time but I'll give it a shot (I have an inverted nipple on one boob and the other didn't produce much milk Blush)
I've wrote my birth plan though, which I'm quite pleased about and I've put in a mention about help with BF.
(Btw if anyone is interested I will be happy to write it out on here)

Had a fab weekend. BBQ on Friday, sunbathed on Saturday and burnt the bump Shock (suppose it is closer to the sun though Wink and then went to Scarborough yesterday.

Congrats to Eeny and Sal on your wedding anniversary. Lovely Smile

Have some more good news, we should be exchanging on the house this week Grin so it shouldn't be long before we're off!!! At last!

Will be back later...
