blobsmummy - Congrats on your recent developments. If I were you I would get any last minute things done (you never know) then get lots of rest and sleep as you don't know when things may start to move along and you would be better rested.

I've been a little anxious this morning because I've had weird twinges/pain and had little bit of diarrhoea last night. Nothing else though so probably getting excited and anxious for no reason. Sad

On a good note today is my last day at work and I'm 38 weeks on Tuesday! YIPPEE!

Thinking of you ...

bumpinsheffield · 19/05/2006 12:25

OOh blobsmummy!! excited for you, sounds promising. However, you may be right, it could be days yet. Keep us posted as to any backache, period pain etc.

Mistake in last postBlush meant to say that baby putting on approx 1/2oz per day not 1/2lb - that would be worrying!

Less than two weeks to go now and I seem to be counting down the hours, so impatient but the 1st of June has sentimental value so I want to keep going till then.

Baby is still breech, not that it matters, but I have a constant hard lump next to my belly button which is baby's head and I'm terrified of banging it on stuff as I walk past.

happybebe - when I was in hospital a couple of weeks ago the nurses gave me a painkiller which was stronger than paracetomol for the contractions, sure there's something available. I'd ring antenatal clinic and speak to a midwife or consultant for advice, they may be able to prescribe you something from there. My hosp were really helpful when I had no luck getting support tights from my GP.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

LilacBump · 19/05/2006 13:17

blobsmummy, exciting news that you've had a show. let us know if anything else happens!

vbab! enjoy your last day at work!

went to hospital this morning... baby's head is down!!! he must have turned sometime this week and i hadn't noticed. the doctor felt it first and did a scan to confirm. lovely to have had another scan. it's all such a relief! thank you all for your support on this!

blobsmummy - wahey! fingesr crossed for you

lilacbump- pleased to hear baby is right way round!

been to midwife today and bad news all round, she told me they dont do pethidine at homebirths anymore so no homebirth for me going to go for a repeat of my last birth - water birth in maternity unit instead. also blood pressure is up for the first time EVER in either of my pregnancies meaning that midwife wants me to get a PET assessment done, something to do with checking for pre eclampsia. i have asked her to put it off for a week as it was only slightly higher and when i left she said it was starting to drop. it could be why i have been getting these migraines so i am under strict instructions to phone her if i have any swelling visual disturbances more migraines etc. better plan a hospital bag now too...:)

BABY2 · 19/05/2006 13:30

WELCOME jenpreston

thanks to everyones kind words about my nastey midwife. Found out my midwife who is leaving is still running a drop in clinic so i have been to see her today and will just go and see her there.
Baby is laying head down but not engaged (36+3)
this is my 2nd baby.

blobsmummy;hope this is it for you, wish i was having some sign's of this pg comming to a end. good luck

surroundedbyboys · 19/05/2006 14:18

hiya. can i join your club? birth of ds3 scheduled for 15 june by c/s. recently moved to sheffield from london. assuming with frightening guile that bump in sheffield is also from these parts.

excited to hear news on blobsmummy - living through other people's proximity to meeting their new babies is sad but true - keeps us going, huh! will be checking for updates!

diddle · 19/05/2006 17:27

vbab - i've had the same, loads of twinges and aches coming now. not with contractions just constantly there. Very annoying! Also had diarhoea off an on for the last week.

Lottielou - don't you worry about a thing, the main thing is that baby will arrive safe and sound. I know you have had pelvis problems and i personally think its a good thing that you're being looked after so well.

lilacbump - Grin woopee, thats excellent news, thank goodness babies head is down, bet you are so relieved.

surroundedbyboys - welcome to our little group, how are you finding your pregnancy? all gone ok?

Blobsmummy - dare i ask what your show was like?? i can cope with details, suspect i may have had one too.

KathrynWales · 19/05/2006 18:05

Hello ladies,

Glad I am not the only one having weird groin pains/heaviness and intermittent diarrhoea/ vomiting Blush My mum says an upset tummy is a sign that baby won't be long. Not sure about that, but can;t wait for it to be over! Am a neurotic wreck about my baby.

Am having my 5th scan on wednesday, as they are concerned about fetal growth. Fundus only 32cms despite me being nearly 35 + 3 weeks, plus apparently, baby's abdomen is also about 32 weeks... Radiographer keeps saying its a problem, then I see doctor who says 'oh it should be ok...' Confused! Sad

Am also itching for Britain...have had the tests for obstetric choloastasis but they were fine...mw thinks I may be oversensitive to oestrogen... skin is red raw on feet from scratching.Am covering myself in calamine and taking piriton but none of it helps. Maybe I have fleas??!! Blush

Tbh, would be quite happy if they induced me at 37 weeks so at least then he is out and I know he is ok. Any tips for pleading with the doc on wednesday??! Wink

Have got the nursery ready and packed my hospital bag. Just need a baby bath / moses stand now, then that is it.

Still doesn;t seem real yet.. I mean, on some levels, I know of course that there is a baby in there... he lets me know often enough... and yet it still feels like an abstract concept... Maybe it wont feel real until I am in agony in hospital!

Anyway, congratulations Abbey on your little girl. Can;t believe we are all at this stage... doesn;t seem so long ago we were all moaning about morning sickness and waiting to feel baby's first movements!
Kx

diddle · 19/05/2006 18:11

kathrynwales - i don't think the fundus measurement is very reliable, its all a rough guide. I would say that you shouldn't worry and a scan will reassure you that all is ok, my midwife thought my baby was quite big for its weeks and when i was scanned it was fairly average, so don't worry.

surroundedbyboys · 19/05/2006 19:37

hi all and thanks for the welcome diddle. its hard to keep up with who is who and whom is due when and who has had a show etc. keep having to scan up to the recent conversation and remind myself.

diddle - yes, have been well during this pregnancy apart from usual boring things - sickness at beg, and bit of spd (which has been really helped by osteopathy for any of you suffering).

been having twinges and stuff also this last week which seems stupidly early so i am ignoring it (or trying too). saw consultant today and he said baby was 4/5th engaged. does this mean anything with a 3rd pregnancy anyone in the know?

oh and diddle - had shows with both previous pregnancies. sorry if tmi but basically clear jelly like for a day or two and then jelly streaked with blood.

surroundedbyboys · 19/05/2006 19:38

oh, kathrynwales - my experience is also that the measurements are highly unreliable, so i wouldn't worry.

fay68 · 19/05/2006 23:43

hi everyone, I'd like to join this thread as I'm due in June.
me: 37
dh: 37
dd: 9
lives: London
due:23/06/06
birth plan: epidural

My dd was born at 38 weeks with 2-day lasting bloody show but she was back to back with nuchal hand.
I am 35 weeks gone and last night had really bad mensutral-like cramps in my lower abdomen & tightening around belly. Also a little non-bloody discharge all yesterday. Didn't want to create panic at 3am in a peacefully asleep household so I waited for it to pass and it did. I've still got a bit of discharge today, but the cramps are much less. Does anyone think this might indicate the birth is close?

At my scan last week the head was "down in the pelvis" but when I asked the Dr if this wasn't too early for a 2nd pregnancy he said no, it's normal no early birth. I just can't get proper answers.

BTW, I am still suffering from nauseas and bad aftertaste whatever I eat (I had hyperemesis for the first 5 mths). Will it honestly go away at birth? The Dr just waved off the question with a laugh. I'm beginning to think this is my life forever, I just can't face going up to 40 wks I want it over! It was great with dd.

Thanks for letting me whine.

Laura032004 · 20/05/2006 08:41

happybebe - snap! I'm the 28th June too. Glad to see somebody else is at the end of the month with me :) Not expecting to have this baby until mid-July though if DS is anything to go by. My migraines were always associated with high blood pressure with DS, and I did get mild PE by the end of the pg. Hope you're all clear if you have the blood tests. Strange about the pethidine, but I haven't asked my MW's if they use it yet. I'm not sure if I want it, but I think I'll get some in just in case if I end up having a HB.

LilacBump - did you get things sorted with Toys'r'us? We bought stuff from both there and M/Care for DS. Two years later you can def. tell the difference. Glad the baby has turned the right way for you.

Welcome to jenpreston, fay68 & surroundedbyboys

fay68 - my cousin had hyperemesis, and it disappeared for her the minute she delivered. She'd been hospitalised loads of times during the pg, and was sick several times a day, so hopefully yours will disappear equally quickly :)

bubbly1973 - had bloods done at about 32w I think, and I'm not expecting any more now. My next antenatal is at 36w though, but the MW didn't mention anything at my last appt.

KathrynWales - sorry to hear you're having all the problems with the baby's est. weight. I'm sure it will all be fine in the end :) Glad to hear I'm not the only one who isn't really feeling like they're having a baby yet! Sounds mad, but I really haven't accepted it yet!

blobsmummy - Rikki wraps are great. Esp for a newborn as the leg gussets help prevent leaks. I prefer the Airflow wraps as they get older (poppers are harder for them to rip off!), but that's not an issue in the first few sizes.

Lottielou - good luck for the appt on Tue. They were never sure if ds engaged (was head down), but he was born by c/s after a long labour, so maybe that's not what you want to hear :( His head was on the 99.8th centile though, so I think it was just too big. Maybe they'll do a scan to check head circumference? I'm not sure they can accurately size your pelvis (esp since it widens in later weeks/during birth) but I might be wrong.

RachelPross - glad all the blood tests came back fine :) Pleased to see someone else near the end of the month too!

blobsmummy -Shock at show etc! You're due near the start of the month aren't you, so this could be the start of it all! Get lots of rest just in case it is.

vbab78 - congrats on starting maternity leave! Very jealous Envy - wish I was getting some this time!

bumpinsheffield - How many weeks are you now? When will they start 'worrying' about the baby being breech? This one keeps flipping back and forth, so I'm not going to worry for another few weeks when it will struggle to turn back.

All is well here. Feeling (scared to say it out loud and tempt fate!) really well compared to last pg (constant migraines, high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia...!). I was in and out of hospital by this stage with DS. Just as well really - I can't afford to be ill with DS to look after. Going to spend this w/e tidying and sorting so hopefully I'll feel a bit more ready and organised to have a baby! Hope everyone else is feeling OK :) And that the new babies are growing well! :) :)

diddle · 20/05/2006 09:39

Thank you surroundedbyboys - Sounds just like what i've had. 4/5 engaged with a 2nd or 3rd preg as far as i've been told means you're not far off labour.

Ended up at hospital last night. I had been concerned for a day or two that baby wasn't moving anywhere near as much, and rather than worry i just kept an eye on it, i have a doppler so knew babies heart was beating. But we decided last nigtht that we wouldn't leave it any longer and called the maternity ward. They suggested we went in just to double check.
Babies heart is fine, and was moving plenty with the monitor on, but appears to have changed position so that it can't squirm about quite as easily.
It is now 3/5 engaged which i am very pleased about, got us all excited, the midwife said it could eb any day now and that my discharge did sound like a "show".

Fay - welcome and congrats. Sounds like you've had a rough time of it. I do not know much about hyperemesis, sorry, but i can't see any reason why it would carry on after the birth surely its hormone and baby related. found a good website on it though, it answers your question and gives plenty more advice, \link{http://www.hyperemesis.org.uk/\take a look}

I would also say looking at your symptoms, although i'm no expert, that something is definitly happening with baby and you are heading towards labour. It may be worth calling your maternity ward and just chatting about your concerns with the, they'll know for sure.

vbab78 · 20/05/2006 12:38

diddle - glad to hear everything went ok at the hospital. Grin I'm sure the babies like playing with us ...

kathryn - A month or two ago I went through a stage where the skin on my hands and feet was terrible. It looked like severe eczema/dry skin. I just kept moisturising, not sure if that did it, but it went eventually. I've had all the tests done too because I have had a lot of spots all over my body but nothing. Must be hormones.

thanks to everyone for all the well wishes about me starting maternity leave. The only problem is now I have nothing to occupy my time until baby arrives which seems like forever even though it is only 2 weeks tuesday if all goes to plan.

blobsmummy · 20/05/2006 15:49

Hello all - and a big welcome to the new folks!

Well, I'm still here and very much pregnant. Have got a backache at the mo. Had contractions all of yesterday lasting about 20 seconds and coming every 7/8 minutes, very much like period pain, but then they suddenly stopped after a few hours and it's been all quiet since then - very disappointing Sad. Sorry for getting your hopes up.

LilacBump - glad to hear baby has turned Smile

Diddle - glad that your hospital visit was reassuring. My show looked like a big flemmy pink piece of snot - sorry if that's tmi Grin.

KathrynWales - the itching must be driving you bonkers - I've only had an itchy tummy and that's been bad enough. I've had so many different scans about fetal growth with sonographer saying baby is big, consultant saying baby is average and midwife saying baby is slightly small! I'm sure your baby will be a lovely size and just perfect.

Vbab - hope you're finding something to occupy yourself with. I'm finding it difficult to find things to do that require no energy expenditure.

Anyone else got problems with skin tags? Mine have appeared all over my neck and look most unappealing.

DH hassling me to finish so I'm off - catch you all later!

happybebe · 20/05/2006 19:22

hi all

just heard that a friend has gone into labour...so jealous!

Kathrynwales - i measuured 28cm fundal height at 32 weeks and got sent for a growth scan that showed baby was of average weight and nothing to worry about, still two cm under. no worries!

welcome to all the new people too, although still quite new myself lol

laura great to hear someone is due the same time, though i have to say i have bets on going early this time, baby is already head down and getting loads of braxton hicks, plus i just dont have any room left in there! i dont want pethidine either as such but with my last birth it was either that or a transfer to another hospital because i was so distressed DD1 became distressed also and they wanted to calm me down. i think i like the thought of having it as a back up rather than no back up at all!

blobsmummy - aw nothing worse than stops and starts! with DD1 two days before i actually did go into labour i had contractions evry seven mins lasting for 60 seconds for 4 hours then nothing. i was gutted. but maybe its a sign you will go soon!

to anyone else i forgot (!) hope you are all doing well and babies are snug! :)

LilacBump · 20/05/2006 19:41

hi girls!
i've been having lots of backache the last two days. everyone seems to think that means labour is not far off.
finally got the mattress and bedding refunded at toys'r'us and bought lovely mothercare ones instead. the difference in quality is amazing. all we need in the nursery now is a new carpet and DP's dad is sorting that out this week.
i highly recommend the boots parenting club. i got my huggies and avent packs today and there's lots of nice freebies in there! even a big and very soft & cuddly heffalump!

OP posts:
fay68 · 20/05/2006 21:08

Thansk for the website diddles and morale from laura032004! The website was great I wish I'd seen it when I was really bad but even the PC screen nauseated me - haven't been near the internet until week 28!

It's been 2 days now with no more pains so I guess it's just BH. However, the slight discharge is still there albeit very little of it and the MW told me on the phone it might be a result of increased estrogen production which is timely.

Hope everyone is doing OK with all the anticipation and waiting.

happybebe · 20/05/2006 22:03

lilacbump i got my pack the other day too, definately a must have the changing bag is huge! it costs nothing to join so go get your names down! :)

SuperSaint · 20/05/2006 22:05

Wow, Such alot seems to be happening with shows and backaches etc etc! I'm quite jealous as I have had no such indications that labour may be imminent except Braxton Hicks every so often which I've been having a while now.

BlobsMummy - With DD I had a bloody show about 6 hours before mild contractions started and about 14 hours before she was actually born but I think it can happen a good few days before anything else does. At least it sounds like something is starting to happen - how exciting!

DH has had the last week off work which has been a great help. I've been having naps in the afternoon as I am feeling so tired. I won't be able to do that next week as I'll have to look after DD - I may have to let her watch huge amounts of TV!

We've got everything organised now and are just waiting for baby to make an appearance. DH is hoping it is about a week late so his paternity leave will coincide with the World Cup!

Take Care and welcome to all the new people,

Skyler · 20/05/2006 22:09

Just wanted to say good luck to you all. I was on the Due in June 2005 thread. I can't believe it is nearly a year ago that I was feeling how you are waiting for my lo. All the best.

RachelPross · 21/05/2006 11:46

KathrynWales - I had the itching and spots as well. TUrned out I was allregic to the baby oil I'd been using to avoid getting stretch marks. Had all the tests for the cholestasis too.

surroundedbyboys · 21/05/2006 16:11

hi all. sounds like things are moving along with quite a few of you ladies. i find it so hard pretending to be patient and feeling really impatient inside. the simple truth for me is that i have been 2 weeks late with both previous boys, and am scheduled for a c/s at 38 weeks so i really cannot complain!
looking forward to more news from all of you... keep us updated with all the details please!

Mitchell81 · 21/05/2006 16:53

Can I join you please? I am currently 34+4, due 28/06, but booked for a C/S on the 16th. I have been reading your thread and feel like I already know some of you. I have 5 year old little girl who is disabled so have had lots of scans to check whether this baby has the same condition. So far we think our 'little boy' is perfectly healthy, but we will only know for sure on the 16th. At my last scan the consultant mentioned the baby changing position all the time and used the phrase 'Unstable lie' which could mean that at 36 weeks I will need to spend the rest of my pregnancy in hospital. Which would be such a pain as then my parents and dh would have to look after dd, and I would be stuck in hospital. So I am hoping baby will settle into one position. Anyone else having this problem?
