BABY2 · 23/05/2006 13:21

Mitchell81 · 23/05/2006 13:35

Lottielou: My due date is 28/06, but booked in for a C/S on the 16th

vbab78 · 23/05/2006 13:35

nic33 - congrats. really jealous though.

diddle - Seems like things are moving along for you. You are determined to beat me to the front of the queue! I'm 38 weeks today and absolutely nothing new to report. No show, waters or anything Envy.

carwillin · 23/05/2006 13:44

I can't believe I have only just found this thread, I've been a lurker/occasional poster since I was pregnant with ds over 2 years ago and totally forgot about the 'due in ???' threads.

Anyhow, I'm due 11/06 but booked in for a c/s on 02/06. Last time ds went to 43 weeks as I was very stubborn about it being a natural birth, it never works out how you plan it!

Congratulations to all those whose babies have decided to come early and best wishes to all those whose labour seems imminent.

surroundedbyboys · 23/05/2006 14:47

hi all. really pissed off as just schlepped all way to midwife appointment and she didn't turn up! aaargh! this is my one day when i don't have the kids till 3.30 as ds2 does a long day at nursery. i could have gone to the cinema or done something fun instead.

anyway...

hello bump in sheffield. i am in ecclesall, and moved in september from london. don't think i know where woodhouse is? i am booked for c/s also so don't fancy going into labour before that date (17th june)! who is doing your c/s? do you know?

congrats nic33. how are you feeling? sounds very impressive emailing from hospital bed. do you live in a very high tech world?

looking forward to hearing about other arrivals....

Lottielou · 23/05/2006 16:32

Hi all!
Well not long been back from my appt.....
Baby isn't engaging as there is excessive fluid that isn't allowing the baby to get it's head down into my pelvis. We had a scan (which was amazing, baby was so clear, the consultant was suprised at how much of baby's features you could see.) Baby is measuring nearly 2 weeks ahead of my dates so that exciting.
I asked what the complications are with having excessive water and he pretty much said that at the first sign of labour they could possibly break my waters if they hadn't already to get the head down sooner rather than later.
Am being rescanned next Tues to check again and see if there is anything they're going to do then.
Feel more reassured than before i went and more excited actually as consultant said baby could be here very very soon according to dates. Hmmm, we shall see!!!
Hope everyone is having a good day!

surrondedbyboys... grrr at your midwife Angry give her a slap next time you see her Smile

hi all :)

lottielou glad to hear it was nothing to worry about!

Nic- huge congratulations am not due for another five weeks, am so jealous!

all is well at the moment, started my raspberry leaf tea which i think is lovely and am trying to convince myself that i can do labour again without feeling a huge wave of panic!

welcome to carwillin and surroundedbyboys thats shocking! did she even phone to say why she couldnt make it? NHS {rolleyes}.

hope everyone is feeling okay not that long left now. :) xx

bumpinsheffield · 24/05/2006 09:04

Morning all. Early start as DP in London and had to catch train. Only 1 car at mo so we all had to go to the train station for 7:30 to drop him off!

Had appt at hosp yesterday to sign the consent form for my c/s. Baby still breech, which I could have told them due to the head poking out all the time Grin Got to go next Wed for pre-op talk to aneathetist (spelling?) and blood tests etc. Then its in at 7am Thurday morn Shock
It seems so close but time seems to be going so slowly.

Congrats nic33 so jealous! - how are you coping with moving around?

Welcome carwillin not long to go now

Surroundedbyboys Shame on your midwife, you should tell her and make her feel really guilty! Woodhouse is near Beighton and Crystal Peaks shopping centre, out towards the M1 on parkway about 6 miles from centre. DP works behind Ecclesall Road and I went to uni at Collegiate Crescent so know it well. DP also originally from London.
I've been booked with the head surgeon for c/s - Not sure of his name yet. I bled loads last time and ended up in special care unit so they're taking no risks this time. Who are you with?

waswondering sorry you're not feeling well but you're right it may stop things happening until planned. Hope you feel better soon though. I keep getting what I think are tightenings but I'm not sure if its just the baby stretching out at this point because that makes my whole stomach hard as well. I've also had a bit of an upset stomach the last couple of days but I'm desperately hoping nothing is going to happen.

Thought of a couple of little tips that may be useful, might be an idea for us all to post little things we found helpful now all of us are getting so close. Mine are - don't wear nail varnish on your toe nails close to your due date. If there are any probs and you need a c/s then doctors need to see the cuticles on your toes to check circulation and they'll have to take it off. midwifes spent ages flapping around when I had DS trying to find nail varnish remover!

  1. Pack a polaroid camera in your labour bag if you have one. Useful during birth so anyone waiting can see what baby looks like straight away. Also when I had DD she was in a different unit and I didn't see her for a long time, the photos the nurses took were useless and some taken by DP would have been really nice.

Hope your all still doing ok.

LilacBump · 24/05/2006 09:15

my tip for labour would be:

if you are having a hospital birth, don't let them move you around too much. once you are in the labour ward, stay there. they moved me to a normal ward without gas & air and i really struggled. i had to manage for hours with just a tens machine. later on they moved me again and it completely disrupted the progress of the labour.

Help - I'm running out of food! Have had this sudden crazy desire to eat absolutely everything in sight, and because DH has got the car, I can't go shopping. I have resorted to opening the packets of food I've packed in the labour bag! Trying to cheer myself up by thinking to myself that my body is craving lots of food so that I have the energy to go into labour. Unfortunately, still no more activity on that front, although baby has been kicking an AWFUL lot recently. Was very weepy last night about it all - hormones - grrrrrrrr.

Anyway, to more important things...

Huge congratulations nic33 on the arrival of Freddie Smile - hope the wobbly phase passes soon. Nice to have a little boy join the two girls on this thread.

Diddle - really hope this is the start of things for you. Keep us informed.

SuperSaint - what is sleep? Wink I have not experienced this state for a little while now, but apparently people tell me that it's a very nice thing to do if you can ....

Waswondering - it took me AGES to learn how to take off the cover on the car seat - haven't yet attempted the pram. I think mothers should be awarded an honourary engineering degree Grin

Right, will go and clean the bathroom now and then spend a couple of hours doing something I actually enjoy.

After I've had something else to eat....

trinity1 · 24/05/2006 14:42

Hi all. Have just had my check up with the midwife who has just told me that my measurements are that of a 33 week baby, even though I'm 38 weeks tomorrow. Walked out of there in tears. She's booked me in for a growth scan on the 2nd June, 6 days before due date. This is the 2nd growth scan she's booked me in for, the last one at the hospital had the baby weighing 5lb 4oz at 34 weeks. Can't help but think she's being over zealous. Just hope baby arrives before the scan to prove her wrong. Angry Hope everyone is ok and not getting too anxious xxx

LilacBump · 24/05/2006 14:46

trinity, sorry to hear that :( i had the same thing with DD. midwife was convinced she was too small and scan showed she was absolutely spot on and she was 8lb 8oz when born! hope your midwife got it wrong!

Waswondering - know what u mean about the loo thing except I seem to be up at least 3 times a night. DH is a v light sleeper so I'm not the only one suffering from lack of sleep.
Went to my 1st a/n class yesterday ( a bit late at 36 weeks) and have joined a mums and babies group in anticipation of our new arrival as my friend asked if i wanted to go along and meet people there...that was fun, got to hold lots of little ones and get some practice in.

diddle · 25/05/2006 08:31

well theres officially nothing at all happening here. I think all these little blips so far have got my hopes up, i want baby here now. I'm sure its cooked. The time isn't really dragging, but it is constantly on my mind.

Love the idea of giving each other tips. Very glad to hear of the nail varnish one, i was planning on making sure i had them painted nicely, but not doing that now. Not that i can reach very easily anymore.

Trinity1 - don't let the docs or hosp stress you out, they are often wrong about size of babies, my friend was told she was having a 9lb baby and it turned out that the baby was 5lb, at full term and the placenta was just under 5lb on its own. I would have thought if they were so concerned you would be being scanned sooner as well. Stay calm and look after yourself.

LilacBump · 25/05/2006 10:11

diddle, shame nothing more has been happening. i was hoping for a birth announcement from you :)

i am so desperate to have this baby now. 12 days to go till my due date. nearly at the single numbers! i see the midwife in a bit. hope it'll be my last checkup before the baby comes!

just got back from the midwife. all is well. baby's head is 4/5 down and ready to go.

BUT... they (there's a team of two now that see me) both admitted that they were wrong and the baby was never breech! with blushed faces they said "oh we haven't got xray eyes, you know!" and i just felt so awful. they caused me an enormous amount of worry and tears the last two weeks. two midwifes with more than 20 years experience each got something as simple as a 36 week position wrong.

bumpinsheffield · 25/05/2006 13:32

Lilacbump - just shows they don't know as much as they think they do! Trinity take note. I really wouldn't worry, you'll get a much clearer diagnosis at the scan. Besides, both my DS and DD were small at birth and it hasn't hindered them 1 bit.

waswondering This is the last Thursday we'll have before the baby arrives!! and tomorrow is the start of the last weekend!!!! Hope your cold gets better, will send as many positive vibes as I can.

I'm feeling very big and hefty at the minute, getting comfortable at night is impossible. I've also been suffering with thrush which the consultant prescribed tablets for. Apparantly your not supposed to take them during pregnancy or breastfeeding but Dr said this was because tests have shown that regular large doses can cause defects. Really not sure what to do. I don't want to take any risks with the baby but I'm planning to b/f like I did DS and DD which means another year before I would be able to take anything. I can't cope another week with these symptoms, let alone a year!

Sorry - PC has a mind of its own today!

Laura032004 · 25/05/2006 19:49

Welcome to Mitchell81 & carwillin Mitchell81 - Hope that baby turns for you soon! carwillin - not long left for you now either.

CarmenH - hope you're feeling better if you're still reading this :)

blobsmummy - Envy at your lovely DH. Good idea too. I might borrow DH's MP3 player if I have to go into hospital - anything to get through the drudgery of night feeds! I'm eating everything in the house as well. I've got a rule that before I eat anything 'bad' that I've got to eat three or four carrots. After that I rarely still want the choc etc, so it's working a bit. Of course, there's always the other times...!

trinity1 - hope your DP got home safely before anything happened! Sorry to hear about the MW's appt. I'm sure everything will be fine at the scan, but you don't need the worry at this time do you?!?

bumpinsheffield - not long for you at all now then! I've only got my 36w appt on the 31st May. I'd probably take the tablets if the doc thinks they're safe, but you can take them whilst bf (not that all GP's know that, but the ABM pharmacist said they were fine) if you're worried about taking them now. I got a mild dose of thrush last wk after taking some a.b's, but a couple of pessaries and the cream cleared it up. I also take a probiotic supplement to try and help it all naturally.

diddle - I really hope that things get going for you, or that you get a complete rest for a few days over the w/e!

SuperSaint - not really having problems sleeping, but I'm up soooo many times a night to go to the loo that it's driving me mad. Between that, ds waking most night, the dog needing the loo, and me changing sides due to cramp, I feel like I'm up and down all night!

Lottielou - Hope you get better news from the scan on Tuesday.

happybebe - How's the RLT going? I found it gave me an upset tummy and really mild BH's all the time when I was pg with DS, so I don't think I'll be trying it this time. Loads of people swear by it though don't they.

RachelPross - at least everything from the a/n classes will be nice and fresh in your mind!

LilacBump - glad to hear that the baby is head down. I can understand why you're annoyed at the mistake in the first place though, you must have spent hours needlessly worrying.

My labour tip is to ensure you've got a good razor and some shaving gel in your bag in case you need a c/s. Last time they did a dry shave with a cheap orange bic razor. The resulting rash was nearly as painful/annoying as my c/s scar. I'm having everything waxed off at the w/e just in case I have to have another c/s.

Must pack my labour bag! Anybody else not done it yet?
