Part 4? Can that be correct?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BigHotMama · 20/04/2006 13:38

Crossed posts there Claire, thanks for your view on M&P's Pliko, its going to be a toss up between that or the Pramette, but hey I'll probably change my mind a dozen times before we buy it. Just good getting opinions from people who have used them. Now then, lets talk baby wipes LOL. Which ones are the best? Grin

Nbg · 20/04/2006 13:44

Baby wipes
Pampers and Johnsons but would go for Pampers if you can.
The other brands are very very wet which makes for nappy rash.

I think the MW's will tell you to stick with cotton wool and luke warm water for the first couple of weeks.

Thanks for the recommendation claire.

claire7676 · 20/04/2006 13:51

Ah my vote goes for huggies (mate hates them the most!!!) (Did use cotton wool at first)

Nbg · 20/04/2006 13:53

Huggies have a different feel to them don't they.
More textured.

claire7676 · 20/04/2006 13:54

BHM have to say pramette not remotely necessary, as pliko lays flat, just nice to flip pram hood round so you can see baby!

claire7676 · 20/04/2006 13:55

Yeah, seem more heavy duty somehow NBG, and larger. God, how dod I turn into someone who has a favourite baby wipe!!!!!!!!!!!

Nbg · 20/04/2006 14:00
Grin I have many favourites of silly things, lol!
claire7676 · 20/04/2006 14:02

Off to do MMR, wish us luck!

Nbg · 20/04/2006 14:03

Oooh good luck.

Do you have a gob stopper sized lolly with you?
Always good to prevent screaming.

Act · 20/04/2006 14:04

hi all, busy on here isn't it!!

Kitegirl: Miles is on our boy's name shortlist of 3! I reckon I will use Milo as a pet/nickname if we go with it...AND they made me wait 1 1/2 hrs for my scan too. It was a complete wind-up. My sympathies with the stocking situation - maybe you could dye them different colours for a laff?

Arabica: work on our bathroom starts on monday. we have a downstairs loo tho, so won't be peeing in a bucket! that sounds scary! will have to go to the gym lots for showers as we don't have any friends very close by

i'm reading the nappy talk with interest. i'm determined to use washables but might wait to see how big the baby is first!

SnowBoo · 20/04/2006 15:58

My god, i don't think i can actually keep up any more! My brain hurts at the best of times....

Well baby has been awake ALL night and all morning, went to sleep at 11:30am, just as i managed to roll out of bed. Ds decided mummy wasn't joking when she said she felt poorly and MADE me stay in bed and sleep! Will wonders never cease? Have really severe backache, ribcage ache, headache (from being stuck in traffic y'day) and feel like an elephant. To top it off my friend came over with ds's playmate. Everything was emptied out, i can't remember such destruction! Even ds was shocked....

Well thats my day so far. Grin

As for disposables vs washables, i want to try washables but dh is adamant we can't. Too much mess/washing/mess....

OP posts:
purpleturtle · 20/04/2006 16:20

It's just a bucket with nappies in. You empty it into the washing machine. You take lovely clean nappies out. How hard can it be?

Jessajam · 20/04/2006 16:30

Hi, not 'really' supposed to be here, as am not due Aug 06 (had mine in August last year!) but, re washables and unimpressed DH's....our house has a dual system at the moment. I use washables, DH uses disposables. DH was a bit worried about the stinky bin of nappies...but the one with disposables in smells far worse than the dry pail of cloth ones..! I figure at least it still reduces landfill by a fair ammount (especially since I do most of the nappy changing anyway!)
Got all mine 2ndhand from nappylady classified section, and a couple from ebay (not such good bargains there though).

The nappy lady website (nappylady.co.uk I think) has some advice on convincing partners, if that's any help.

Right, I'll get my nose out of your thread now!!! Smile

sarahlou1uk · 20/04/2006 17:29

My dh similar to jessajam - he won't use reuseables, just disposables. What a wimp. All you have to do with reuseables is scrape off any solids down the toilet and then put the nappy and liner in a dry bucket with a muslin cloth on the top and a few drops of either lavender or tea tree oil. Says they're too fiddly - I say they're not as fiddly as disposables when you get cream on the sticky tab and the whole thing then has to go in the bin and a new one used!!! Re wipes, I tend to go for whatever is on offer at the supermarket but for baby number 2 will be using terry wipes which you can use with either water or baby lotion and then it goes in the nappy bin with the dirty nappies for washing. You can buy these from the nappy lady and are cheap alternative to manufactured wipes.

Micku5 · 20/04/2006 18:25

Hiya.... Can't believe we are on thread number 4 already. I had my 21 week scan today. The sonographer thinks it's a girl.. the baby's legs were crossed so she couldn't confirm. Everything looked okay excect that the baby's right kidney is slighty dilated (renal kidney dilatation)

They are going to monitor it and I will have to go for another scan at 23 and 28 weeks. It is very mild atm but they do like to keep an eye on it.

Apart from that, baby is kicking away and i had to buy a baby name book because DH and I are stumped with coming up with girls names. (It took us 9 months to come up and agree with dd1 name - Jadyn)

jayjaybaby · 20/04/2006 20:05

we are gonna use huggies pure for sensitive skin apparently they are the best according to friend whose son has every allergy going so because of excma and coeliacs in the family going with those also the big 144 wipe packs have been on bogof for a while intesco and wilko's so have got eight packs they dont run out til next summer hehe
by the way popped into john lewis today to check how large they're feeding bras went up to i hope i dont go much bigger cause im gonna run out of any choice but htey do actual apptoinments for nursing fittings as you need to do them four weeks before the birth and they are open til late weds nites just thinking in july hot city centres shopping = not good Grin thought i'd let you know they nursing bras start from 14 quid

PinkTulips · 20/04/2006 21:11

nappy wipes- nivea sensitive were the only ones that didn't irritate dd's bum, even pampers sensitive caused some irritation. recently discovered aldi senstiive though and they're great, no irritation and half the price.

as for dads not coping with washable nappies, mine can't manage disposables, he can't get them on right the few time we've had to use them! i'd also second the opinion that disposables smell way worse. we have a bucket in the bathroom for the washables and it has a net bag in it that i just lift into the machine, p*ss easy!

am i insane to think i can get away with no double buggy? i'm hoping to cope with just the single buggy and a baby sling as i can't stand the doubles, this country just isn't designed for them!

aprilgirl1 · 21/04/2006 11:30

hi yeah id love to share my 4d scan news if im the 1st to have it on this thread, its so exciting. im having trouble sleeping these days im far too hot, cant get comfy, baby only kicks full on at night when i am trying to rest ( little bugger) so right now i feel utterly knackered!!
ive got my buggy weve went for the A3 Pramette - Bloomsbury from mamas and papas so so light just hope it fits into my car!!
is any one using a belly band thing... i have just started to and i must recomend them ( £5 from topshop) they just hide the bits of ya belly your top unovers... fantastic and much move supported i feel
take care everyone xx

katylou25 · 21/04/2006 11:34

Another vote for huggies wipes here!

PT I had that same thoughts about double buggies but everyone I spoke too who felt the same before baby was born was in mothercare within two weeks buying one!! Ive decided to get a maclaren double and use that as well as single buggy/sling/toddler on reins if he ever gets up and walks combinations! Chose maclaren as they seem to be smallest double - not that wider than my quinny 3 wheeler.

BigHotMama · 21/04/2006 12:47

Morning ladeez, Hope your all well. I didnt get much sleep woke up in a sweat and the one side of my hair was frizzy and the other neat and straight lol. Kept dreaming about 4d scan, everytime we looked on the screen we nearly saw the sex and had to keep shutting our eyes and in the end we didnt see much at all and I felt really disappointed?? Obviously feeling anxious now I've booked it!
Aprilgirl I like the A3 pramette, how big is your car? At the moment I've got a tiny Ford KA but am thinking of sellin gup and going for something like a renault scenic or a Citroen Picasso? Surely I wouldnt get anything in a Ford KA - Does anyobdy here have a KA and manage to get their pushchair in?
Feel sorry for those who arent getting much sleep due to feeling uncomfortable or bab kicking, tbh I dont feel the baby kicking in the night but everytime I roll over I wake myself up as need to take time getting comfy, last night I made a sharp twist in bed and woke up feeling bit cramp in my side, wasnt nice!
Has anybody started getting stuff yet? I've got loads of baby clothes and few packs of nappies n bath stuff so far, cant wait to go shopping for the lot and have it all ready. Grin

PinkTulips · 21/04/2006 13:01

thanks katylou, our plan at the minute is to have the money put aside for a double and get it after the birth if we need it, think i'd be able to choose better with both LOs there to test it out and i'll need a bit of retail therapy by then anywayWink

BHM- we got everything for dd into a little ford escort hatchback, we do a lot of long trips up and down country to grandparents where we need to bring everything- travelcots, buggies, bags of nappies and clothes, food, the kitchen sink! it was a tight squeeze but i wouldn't panic too much about space with just the one as you can pile alot of stuff into the back with them and on the floors, not glamourous but then parents rarely are!

aprilgirl1 · 21/04/2006 13:31

BigHotMama i drive a 206 so heres hopeing it fits in the thing or dp with have to buy me a new car ( i'll not be struggling to get it in thats for sure Grin ) might struggle and see where it gets me!!!
dp doesnt drive so it doesnt affect him so he wont even know if im telling little fibs to get a new set of wheels ... mmmmm now theres a thought!! ha ha!!
just kiddin i love my little car n really hope it'll be ok ... honest!!
ive started buyng little baby clothes its just sooooo hard when you dont thow the sex of the baby, im dying to get either pink or blue stuff, been buying nappies, wipes ( just going for what ever is buy one get one free ect!) got pram car seat, steriliser, bottles so eventually getting there!! xx

BigHotMama · 21/04/2006 14:58

Aprilgirl few little fibs wont hurt will they? He'd never know ha! Pinktulips, my boot is tiny and only a 3 door so would have to bend and probably break my back to put the baby car seat in and out. Do shops let you try before you buy? (try = getting the pushchair in boot?) I love my little car too, had it 6 years now and it comes everywhere with me ha! Hope it doesnt get too jealous when LO arrives.
Havent really got to spend much myself tbh as my mom is buying pushchair, sis buying me moses basket and aunty buying the cot, a friend is lending me her electric breast pump as she only used it twice and it cost £130. All whats left is bath set, towels, toiletries, travelcot, play gym & toys, wardrobes and changing station, and feeding stuff. Sorry if I'm boring everyone just feeling excited today, cuz only 15(ish)weeks away now. Grin Grin Grin

kitegirl · 21/04/2006 15:41

I've just bought a new pushchair/pram Blush. But I really liked it. And I can hopefully eBay one of the two I already have...

Went to see the birth unit of the hospital I am thinking of switching to (St Thomas's in London) and some delivery rooms have a gorgeous view of the Houses of Parliament and the river! Is anyone of you considering a home birth? I'm not but just interested.

Nbg · 21/04/2006 16:30

KG, norty norty Grin
I daren't go into Mothercare for fear of a purchase!

Micku5, hope everything is ok Smile I'm sure it will be.

Have just got back from the cinema. Took dd to see Ice age 2. It was great! Really funny. I think the adults laughed more than the kids Grin

Master bump has somehow lodged his foot in my right side and seems to be propping one of my boobs up Blush
So I now have a wonky chest. Looks a bit like plastic surgery gone wrong Grin
