Congratulations on all the lovely scan news! And on your consultant being happy to support whichever decision you make don't mind!Smile

Good luck with scans tomrw/ in next few days! I have ages to wait!

Glad your DH saw sense redwelly!

Littlemissexpecting · 22/01/2013 20:53

Congratulations on good news at scans! Lovely news. Only 2 more sleeps to go till mine!
I'm still debating whether to start my mat leave, either 10th June or 17th June. I've got 3 weeks annual leave to take before hand. I'm very tempted to finish earlier than later, but I only get 6 weeks pay so that's putting me off!

pinkapples · 22/01/2013 21:17

Good luck to you to arlandria I'm sure well be fine just can't wait now I think the first thing out of my mouth will be 'does it have a heartbeat?' If it does were halfway there and think I could cope with everything else

Still don't know about mat leave how many weeks will everyone be when they go on leave? Ill work it out easier that way hehe I'm due 12/06 but think ill struggle being off work as I work in a nursery with my mum dad and sister and ill have actually nothin to do if I'm at home there's only so many times you can clean the house hehe

MrsBri · 22/01/2013 21:25

Good luck, redwelly :-) Why are you dreading telling work? You're allowed to get pregnant. Good news re DH.

If my due date stays at 20th or sooner, I'm finishing on 17th May, with 3 weeks' annual leave. If it is 24th, I'll start on 24th May, with holiday as before.

Then it is 6 weeks at 90% pay, then SMP for the remainder.

I think you may lose your holiday if your baby is born during annual leave, so I'm not risking that, though I'll probably be late now!

I think baby is looping the loop tonight as the movement is making me feel a bit ill. Does anybody else feel ill when baby makes certain types of movement?

peardrop2 · 22/01/2013 21:33

Sunbeam it's even worse when you say you're having a boy/girl and people ask is that what you both wanted Shock As if you're going to say No! Stupid question Hmm

cyclecamper · 22/01/2013 22:32

MrsBri I've had a few movements that have made me feel distinctly ill too. I'd like to have a job to take maternity leave from! No chance now though. sad

Withalittlesparkle · 23/01/2013 08:32

I think I'm planning 4 weeks before EDD which will leave me with 2 weeks holiday but any holiday we don't use gets merged with our maternity pay, effectively buying me another 2 weeks full pay Grin plus j think I can decide how much annual leave from the following year I want to use, we accrue annual leave so they don't want me going back mod way through the year with 5 weeks to take off, iyswim?!

Am very lucky maternity pay wise, think I get 16 weeks full day, so many weeks smp and the 12 unpaid Smile

Think what I've been feeling lately is in fact baby, no bad gas!! So excited as there appeared to be a bit of a disco in my belly last night, think baby was celebrating my birthday Grin

BumbleBee2011 · 23/01/2013 08:49

I have no idea when to start mat leave this time...DD was due 19th June, I left on 30th May and ended up with 4 weeks waiting for her to arrive...which was a bit maddening in some ways (could've throttled some people - "any sign yet?" Confused) but also nice to enjoy what I knew would be my last ever lie-ins.

This time I might wait til 1-2 weeks before EDD unless I'm huge...I work 3 days a week so think I might be able to last longer. Plus staying home with DD will be harder than going to work by then! Wink

So jealous of all your scans, mine's not til the 8th feb, so ages away...getting some good kicking action though so not worried, just excited!

Olimoss · 23/01/2013 09:54

I'm self employed so when I'm not working I don't get paid, although will have a bash at getting Stat Maternity pay. Essentially that means I'll continue to work for as long as I can, and prob not have that long off, although I generally work 3-4 days a week at most anyway so should be pretty flexible with what I can sort out.

Is anyone else a giant burp machine. As in burping-like-a-fat-man-after-beer burps? As in, 'oh god, I bet my neighbours could hear that one through the wall' type burps?

learnermummy · 23/01/2013 10:29

I can't keep up with this thread :-) A week to go til our scan and am excited about find out this time but also worried about being disappointed. Have two boys who are absolutely brill but there are no granddaughters in the family and know my mum, sis and mil all would love it to be a girl. I don't think I'm bothered either way as I know where i am with boys iyswim.

On a different note - am planning on investing in a pregnancy pillow when bump gets a bit bigger - debating dream-genii or mum-e pillow - anyone any experience with either??

SunnyL · 23/01/2013 10:44

I'm having the discussion this week as to what my plans are and how we're going to get my work covered while I'm away. I'm thinking of heading off about 3 weeks before babs is due. Work seems quite happy with that but colleagues have asked if the dog can still come to work when I'm off as they will miss her. Told them i'd just tie the lead to the pram and they can take both baby and dog for the day so I can have a lie in.

DontmindifIdo · 23/01/2013 11:05

Learnermummy - your mum, sis and MIL will just have to put away the sickly sweet pink and embrace the boyness of your house! I'm also feeling a subtle pressure from my mum who is sure I must want a girl this time as I've already got a boy. I'm sure if it does end up being a girl she'll be a complete tomboy and ruin all their pink fluffy ideals anyway.

Annoying I can't find out! Of course, when I think of having a second boy, I get in my head and have a bit of a lump in my throat!

cyclecamper · 23/01/2013 11:15

Since I'm only going to get one, I really don't care what it is! I'm happy to get one - I didn't think I would Smile. (Since this one is the result of a failed vasectomy, I'm working hard to convince my husband to wait until it arrives before he has it re-done!)

All the girls I've had influence on in their early years have grown into the cycling, running, tree-climbing variety so I'm not expecting it to be a pink princess even if it is a girl.

Olimoss I'm burping well too! And farting come to that Blush. It's a good job my family knew that I wasn't delicate and ladylike before pregnancy, so they are used to a certain amount of flatulance!

forgetmenots · 23/01/2013 11:41

Just got a dreamgenii pillow learnermummy, have been feeling great except for sleeping and I have had a great night's sleep on it, really recommend highly!

Littlemissexpecting · 23/01/2013 12:08

I'm borrowing my friends sleep genie for the weekend to try it out. I'll let you know how I get on.
Does anyone know how I can keep under bump jeans actually up, without resorting to braces? I'm not keen to start wearing my over bump ones until bump gets bigger but I might have to. At least it will keep tummy warm Smile

BumbleBee2011 · 23/01/2013 12:36

I have a dream genii and DH says I love it more than him Smile

Another burper and farter here unfortunately - last time I apparently snored like a train as well (maybe I am now too and DH is being polite). Does take the shine off the whole "blooming" and "womanly" thing a bit...

Littlemiss - have you tried under the bump maternity jeans? I never had any over the bump ones, just a pair of leggings towards the end. I found under the bump more comfy, especially as the weather got warmer. Plus you can always buy a bump band to go over them if you want extra support.

BumbleBee2011 · 23/01/2013 12:39

Sorry just read again - regarding actually keeping them up, all mine had a panel on the inside which you buttoned up tighter or looser as your shape changes (as opposed to just plain elasticated waist).

learnermummy · 23/01/2013 13:03

I've always had trouble keeping maternity trousers of any description up. Remember preferring dresses and skirts before because of this. Not sure I could face braces Grin

MrsJLS85 · 23/01/2013 13:05

Hi Everyone! I'll reintroduce myself because I haven't been on MN since about November! Went away on holiday, then got crazy with work, then been sick, etc, but all is well now and settled back into normal routine!

Congrats to everyone with lovely scan news! We had ours last week, and was thrilled that everything seems normal and healthy AND that we're having a BOY! Excited because we already have DD who's 2 so she will love having a little brother.

oli am also a burping machine and DD thinks its so funny lol

Re: mat leave, I'm self employed, so going to work up until about 2 weeks before EDD then I'll qualify for Mat Allowance.

Anyone getting nervous for the actual birth? I really wanted a "natural" birth for DD, and after a painfully slow labour ended up in stirups with forceps and nasty tear Sad Sorry don't mean to scare any newbies, but I just really want this time to go better, and I think I'm getting myself worked up...

Good luck to all those with upcoming scans! Such a milestone to reach, enjoy!

learnermummy · 23/01/2013 13:31

Congrats on your baby boy news MrsJLS Smile
Try not to worry about the birth, its highly likely that second time will be much easier. My first was back to back and labour went on for days and he didn't turn so ended up with 3rd degree tear. All healed up just fine though. Second time I had a home water birth, all over in under 2 hours. I did do hypnobirthing which I think helped really relax things plus you and your body know a bit more about what to expect.

forgetmenots · 23/01/2013 14:00

sticks fingers in ears and hums :)

MrsJLS85 · 23/01/2013 14:04

learnermummy That is so lovely to hear! I really want a better birth this time, and great to hear it can be done after previous tear. Thanks for the reassurance!

redwellybluewelly · 23/01/2013 14:26

Congrats on the baby boy MrsJLS

We had a great scan, the sonographer had a student in so was going through everything she could see, now I understand what they are doing I know why our 2nd scan with DD was so damn long but it was nerve wracking last time and this time really interesting. Baby is a ...... nope - not telling Grin although we do know.

Pg will remain under community care but switch to high risk consultant led around 30-32 weeks, CS is not booked in but I can have one at the drop of a hat, hope is to labour naturally before T+7 and I can then have a (hospital) water birth and a senior midwifery team with a paed on standby. Induction however is considered too great a risk emotionally and physically. I feel somewhat more relaxed about it.

As for why I am nervous about telling work - mainly because as a research student its considered pretty bad form to have a baby partway through studying. And my supervisory team is freaking terrifyingly academic with no sense of humour

cyclecamper · 23/01/2013 15:01

redwelly Good luck, hope work cope with the idea!

I had a call from the agency saying that someone that interviewed me before I knew I was pregnant wondered if I would be interested in doing it as a temp job - I said yes (it's a pain to get to, but I need the money) and they said ooh, we don't know if you'll be able to make it on time, with being pregnant! They're going to think about it. Grrr! That is totally illegal!

I have finally got my booking appointment with the midwife - 7th February! At this rate I'll be able to combine it with the trip to the hospital to give birth. I'll be nearly 22 weeks by then!

pinkapples · 23/01/2013 15:04

Congrats on scan woohoo! My scan was good too baby fine if very uncooperative hehe baby is probably a girl! About 75% she said but no boy bits that she could see hubby is happy x
