Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hey ladies :)

Congrats on all the scans! Lovely news.

Sunny I started a thread last year about skiing whilst pregnant because I thought I might be and was going skiing. Lots of people had skiied pregnant and been fine. Likewise with horse-riding. I'm not going skiing this year because I've only been a couple of times and I'm not very experienced / controlled. I would also worry more about some of the crazier more adventurous skiiers / snowboarders banging into me than falling into the snow. Or having an accident and twisting / breaking an ankle leg and having that to contend with whilst pregnant. But I'm a worrier. So I reckon if you're confident, then you should go have fun. Mum's will always worry - mine didn't want me to leave the house in any snowy conditions and Mil was Hmm about us going on a walk in the snow yesterday. We'll all be Hmm mummies ourselves soon enough! Grin

RedWelly hope your day is better and less traumatic. I hate driving in the snow / being stuck places / not being able to get food. When I was commuting (by car) I felt really sick if there was snow because I knew one boss would expect us all in and the other would be much more lenient. Luckily we only had baddish snow and they took a view to close the office most days as we were in a converted barn off a country (ungritted) road. The less sympathetic boss changed his stance once two of the girls from the office had had small accidents in their cars (one stuck in a ditch / the other had a crash with another car - just scrapes no-one hurt and no cars written off). You can never be too safe in my opinion when it comes to snow / ice! Even if it seems like a paltry amount to those more acclimatised.

Suzy know what you mean about the spreadsheets - I've got them coming out of my ears at the moment. One for home, one for baby and one for my own finances. I find the control freakery helps me feel soothed about things as I can plan and know what to expect / set myself realistic budgets. It is getting a bit Monica though Blush

My tummy goes from soft to hard but I think it depends where baby has positioned himself and what's stretching out where. Its really hard when he's jiggling round and we're sure we identified a head or bum right out there the other day. We think he curls up across me and lies accross the back when he's having a snoozy grow day. I also get itchy boobs before they grow too. I've felt very stretchy in my tummy area - a little bit like very, very, very light period pain and the last few days and today my bump is really big and hard - so I just think it's stretching out. I've also got terrible backache, although it is easier today than it was last night when I got stuck getting into bed. Maybe the stretching is pressing on a nerve. Not sure!

Waves to all the newbies.

Hope everyone's wrapped up and warm and has a stocked up fridge. Waves and luffs Smile

Sparkle I have anterior placenta again (3rd time running!) and that muffles the feeling, with DD I didn't feel her move till gone 20 weeks. Now I know what it feels like I've felt this one and DS a bit earlier, but not much.

Re team yellow, I've got at least three growth scans to come so might well find out at one of them! Grin

Littlemissexpecting · 21/01/2013 17:40

Good to hear the scans went well.
I'm counting down the hours till mine on Thurs. not sure what I'll do if baby has legs crossed!
I've not felt any movements yet, or don't think I have. I'm very achey at the minute though so who knows.

forgetmenots · 21/01/2013 17:43

My mw said it could be any time up to about 22 weeks sparkle, no need to worry yet. Also it took me a while to figure out what were movements and what were muscle pains/wind! Try lying down in a quiet and dark room on your left side, after drinking a cold glass of something sugary, put your hands gently on the bump and try to 'tune in' to any feelings. Worth a try but don't be upset if you don't feel anything especially not straight away.

MrsBri · 21/01/2013 17:56

Yay for good scans :-) Sunny, our baby was looping the loop for the 12 week scan...I've no doubt we will get the same in 2 weeks' time too! :-) Maybe our babies can start an acrobatic troupe?!

I find baby will be active when I'm lying down, so agree with the tip on how to maybe feel movement.

forgetmenots · 21/01/2013 18:01

Haha mine is a show off acrobat too! Hoping to see more on Friday :) congratulations Sunny!

MrsBri · 21/01/2013 18:19

Excellent, forget :-) Building quite a squad up now.

Oh...was sick at work today, just before I came home. God knows what my body is doing!

pinkapples · 21/01/2013 19:28

No feelings for me yet either I don't think anterior placenta too so who knows Grin can't wait till Wednesday now doesn't bear thinking about if something is wrong Sad

forgetmenots · 21/01/2013 19:43

Oh pinkapples :(
I'm sure all will be fine, could be so many reasons for this but I understand your nerves. I will be a nervous wreck before mine too, will be so good to have that done!
Someone said (I think on this thread) that this is how it's going to be, once the 12wk scan is past, the 20wk scan is the worry, then the birth, and then every milestone for the rest of their life! Made sense to me :)

MrsBri · 21/01/2013 21:25

That's exactly it, forget! :-/

So jealous of the scans this week...want to get there too.

Exciting and nerve wracking all at once!

Olimoss · 22/01/2013 10:59

Fingers crosses for all the scans still to come.

For those waiting for movements - it's definitely a mixed blessing. I was seriously kept awake last night by internal baby-gut shennanigans. I bloody well hope this isn't a sleeping pattern that continues - isn't it about now that things like that start to get set?

Also wanted to ask - can morning sickness return? I've been well since 15 weeks, really (apart from headaches and a supernatural ability to sleep) but this morning has seen a return to googly belly, bit of dizziness and nausea. Wonder if it's just because we're heading into a massive growing spur?

Finally last night I crumbled and downloaded the BabyScope app to my iphone. It works well for me, actually, thereby negating the need/desire for a doppler. Having said that the sonographer said I had a 'high' placenta which I suppose means it's not getting in the way of anything towards the front of the belly. I just pressed the iphone's microphone firmly to my lower belly and bingo, heartbeat! Pretty cool.

Off to surf another wave of nausea. Have aces day, you all, and beware of the killer ice.

suzyrut · 22/01/2013 11:39

I second olimoss on feeling movements being a mixed blessing. I felt nothing at all on Sunday despite eating every single sugary snack we had in the house (all remaining christmas chocolates are now gone!) and went into a panic (especially as I had some more spotting on Saturday). Then yesterday just as I was thinking I should phone the midwife she started and was kicking all day. Now again today pretty much nothing!

It just varies so much with their position your baby's probably just very, very comfortably tucked up and growing away merrily pinkapples xx

Sunbeam18 · 22/01/2013 11:45

Anyone booked up for NCT classes?

forgetmenots · 22/01/2013 11:56

Me too Suzy, the worry of last week when I couldn't feel anything :(

Baby kicking away today but I get nervous now when he/she is still. Definitely a mixed blessing.

Good tip on baby scope olimoss :)

I'm having real, real trouble sleeping but have now got hold of a dream genii pillow so I am hoping for a long and deep sleep!

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 22/01/2013 12:03

Sunbeam I did them the first time - DS has just turned 2 so doubt too much has changed
You doing them? I'd recommend them

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 22/01/2013 12:10

Dontmind Yes...depending on timing of baby, DP will be doing his exams with either a newborn in the house or having to leave his phone with examiners during the exams in case of emergency labour phone call!

Not the absolute best timing but at least when they're done, he'll have a full month or 2 off to do all the night feeds bond with baby

Had to go to hospital last night, heffalump 2 year old fell on my stomach and then baby didnt move for a while so had to go in and get heartbeat checked, apparently he's 'wrapped round my spine' (probably hiding from his brother!) so thats why I couldnt feel him. Apparently its quite a common position for babies at this stage so if you're not feeling baby yet, they could just be sat right at the back

Shall we have a count-up as people start finding out gender? See if we're a more blue or pink month!

I'm boy

Sunbeam18 · 22/01/2013 12:18

Eddie - yes, I think we will as this is first baby and I know nothing!

Olimoss · 22/01/2013 12:33

Yep we've signed up for NCT, mostly (from my perspective, anyway) so the BF can get a reality check about it all and hopefully we'll meet a not-too-yummy-mummy couple in the group. We live on the borders of yummy-mummy territory and am a bit wary of it all....

Boy here, no mistaking from the scan. Massive balls!

Littlemissexpecting · 22/01/2013 12:41

I've signed up to nct. Might do the nhs one too.
Nct one was really because they go into more detail, 8x2.5 hr sessions compared to nhs 1x4 hour session.
I'm also new to this area, I know no one nearby with babies or children so for me and baby I thought nct would be best.

MrsBri · 22/01/2013 12:44

You're very bad, Oli...told DH to get that app!

cyclecamper · 22/01/2013 13:11

I will probably sign up to nct, but I'm waiting to see the midwife first. I'm hoping to get an appointment through this week, but if not, I'm seeing the dr on Thursday and she can chivvy them. At this rate I won't see a midwife until I go into labour!

SunnyL · 22/01/2013 13:11

We're definately camp yellow.

We asked the sonographer not to tell us but it was wriggling so much she had to spend a lot of time around the bum area trying to look at spine.

Even still by the end of it I was convinced it was a boy and DH was convinced it was a girl. We'll find out in 4 months as a nice present.

Littlemissexpecting · 22/01/2013 13:21

Cycle I got the last place on my nct course. I'm not sure how many people they have on each course but they do fill up quickly.
But they do lots of different ones, we had choice of evening and weekends etc and different venues

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 22/01/2013 13:26

Cycle Have you not seen a midwife at all yet?

Yea, nct classes were good for us, only 4 couples (one of whom I'm good friends with and see weekly, one who lives a bit far out but she her every few months and one we never see as she was a little too 'woo' for us to have much in common!)

More time to talk over things and to ask questions/get answers specific to your situation, lots of 'get into groups and discuss..' activities too which I think helps the men think for themselves how it actually might be when they're away from their other halfs and have to have an answer (was very funny on the 'what are you most looking forward to?' question, all the women said seeing/holding our baby and one man said 'a train set!)

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 22/01/2013 13:26

Think we should update the stats thread with genders or it'll get lost - I'll go do mine now :)
