Wow everyone has been so busy on here!
got our scan on thursday - it can not come quick enough! keep thinking that i feel movements, but then i doubt myself, bump is growing exceptionally large though!

cyclecamper what an exciting story! i was the product of a similar story! my mum thought she was having all the signs menopause, and was actually pregnant with me at the age of 47 my two siblings (aged 19 and 20 at the time) quickly moved out!

sunny my dreams are crazy too! and sooo vivid! i have started to write them down in the middle of the night so that i dont forget anything about them!

As for all those debating potty training, a good tip with taking the "next step" is putting pants on dc, then nappy over the top, so dc gets the feeling of being wet, yet you dont have all the mess and extra clothes washes to do!

hope those who have had a snow day have enjoyed it, my dh and colleagues all banned me from walking more than a few metres in the snow, just incase i fell and landed on bump!

AmIGoingMad · 18/01/2013 20:13

Maisie what a brilliant idea! Thanks for that! Smile

AmIGoingMad · 18/01/2013 20:14

Great to hear that your scan. Went well dreamy! Smile

pinkapples · 18/01/2013 20:37

Congrats on your scan Grin terrified for mine it's on Wednesday still don't feel much if anything and I'm 19+3 but then I don't exactly know what I'm meant to be looking for

learnermummy · 18/01/2013 22:34

Hi all I've seen people mentioning mama packs - not heard of them before, where do you get them? Thanks

DontmindifIdo · 19/01/2013 09:33

AmIGoingMad - I'd just introduce the potty reguarly and then when you are ready to go for it, just do it, don't go back to nappies, and only use pull ups for "bedtime pants" (never call them nappies!). you will have to deal with a lot of accidents, I recommend buying lots of cheap trousers and socks as well as extra pants.

Learnermummy - I think they are an alternative to Bounty Packs and they are given out on the post nateal wards if your hospital is signedup to them, but if someone else knows, please say! Actually on Bounty, I've decided this time round I'm going to put "no bounty rep" on my notes after a) reading the rather shocking threads about some bounty staff and b) still getting shed loads of junk mail/calls because they've sold on my details after having DS. Can't face that doubling just to get a CB form (which you can just do on line anyway) and a sample sized tub of sudacreme...

BTW - I could do with some straight leg/skinny non-jeans maternity trousers for a short arse petite frame, has anyone seen any nice ones that don't look like you'll get a static electric shocks if you walk down the stairs too quickly? I'm stuck in with a Chicken poxy child and need to shop on line...

Dontmind, try New Look. They have trousers they call jeans for 16 quid, but are definitely light enough material to be called trousers, if that makes sense?!

redwellybluewelly · 19/01/2013 11:34

They aren't as yet given out on hospital wards, a petition has been started to get them out to more hospitals - there is a link somewhere on this thread to buy them. They have more ethical (and useful) advertising but very little of it unlike bounty who mostly propagate some pretty shite parenting nonsense mostly in a bid to get you to spend money!

I threw away my Bounty pack from my MW appt with this pg, I have all my maternity notes in a thin folder which I am more comfortable with. and god help the fecking bounty photographer this time round

Great news on scans, we do need to keep a tally Smile and also if anyone guesses correctly! cyclecamper I didn't know about this one until 9 weeks so it did come as a bit of a surprise! EddieIzzard I have to use my iCandy apparently but if DC1 (who will be 2.10) does regress and want buggy then I'll get a second hand mountain buggy or Jane I think. We do a lot of urban walking, offroad I'll opt to use a sling and have DD in the backpack, I've tandem worn before with a friends baby so happy I can do it.

Because of all the snow days this week and DH being off we had started to run out of food yesterday, couldn't get car onto the road so I took the sledge and walked to the co-op! Lovely amount of exercise, especially back up a hill with many pints of milk, 2 bags of spuds, etc etc and my thighs today are screaming with every step! Start yoga on Wednesday after my scan, and as and when I've told work I can start to use the pool, right now a cossie would out me!

learnermummy · 19/01/2013 19:39

Dontmind I got some great skinny jeans in GAP online - they might have trousers too, and 20% off if you signed up for their newsletter.

As for the buggy board debate, when I had DS2 I had a thing called a strolli rider which is basically like a little bicycle type attachment that attached to the pushchair. My almost 3 year old DS1 absolutely loved it.

SunnyL · 20/01/2013 07:34

Well that was another night of truly bizarre dreams. I dont feel particularly rested because i was running around so much in my dreams.

First i was on Jeremy Kyle as a crew member. I cant say i've seen that show since i stopped being a student 12 years ago.

Next dream i had a terrible argument with DH and was threatening divorse. It was so real i had to give myself a real talking to when i woke up so i didnt hit him.

Phew - will try and have a more rational day methinks.

SunnyL · 20/01/2013 07:37

Oh and agree with Learnermummy - ive got one pair of gap maternity jeans and ordered another pair yesterday. There are still a few maternity jeans in the sale which is great cos they are really good quality but i'm too cheap to pay full price.

DontmindifIdo · 20/01/2013 09:25

thanks all! I've seen some nice ones in the gap sale for a tenner, makes the rather steep £4 for delivery still make them a bargin! I just want something a bit smarter than jeans. Shall order them when I can be arsed to get off my ever expanding bottom and go find my creditcard... Grin

I dreamt I had a girl last night now, so I've dreamt of both. SunnyL - one of DH's old rugby team mates was woken up and punched by his wife because she'd dreamt he was having an affair. He wasn't, it took her about an hour to realise that yes, it was just a dream and she had just hit her DH for something she made up!

Glad it's not just me having weird dreams. I dreamt that I got run over when a car skidded on ice and hit me. I was in hosp and they were trying to stop labour! I'm definitely not going out today!!
I got a few mat clothes- jeans and work trousers from next sale online. I grudge paying full price for them.

grainmum · 20/01/2013 11:14

oh my goodness went to a local pram shop yesterday - where to start?!? Planning a return trip on a weekday with OH.

Also wondered if anyone who's not a first-timer can tell me about Braxton hicks? When do they start and what are they like? Yesterday was sitting on sofa watching tv and bump felt quite firm. Initially I thought it was just a bit of baby protruding like bottom or head, then I wondered whether it could be a contraction. Not painful at all. Any info appreciated x

DontmindifIdo · 20/01/2013 11:55

Grainmum, if you don't want your OH to be completely overwhelmed, draw up a list of your wants/needs/nice to have but not essential type things for a buggy then add in your budget. It should at least give you a starting point for discussions. I also found having done some on-line research so that by the time I took DH along I'd already ruled out various ones due to issues like weight, size (not fitting in my boot), price, not being rear-facing after 6 months etc. It made it easier for him to see it like looking for a car - as in, while I might like a Porche, we can't all afford it and actually it might not be the most practical car if you need to fit incar seats/go off road etc. Going into buying a car you'd have an idea of what you were looking for before turning up at a dealership.

Sarah2506 · 20/01/2013 14:42

Don't suppose any of you second timers have experience of planned ceseareans and then labour starting early? I'm booked for 7th June which is 39 weeks. Two friends have just had their first babies at 37 and 38 weeks with very quick labours. Worried this might happen to me- this may sound ironic but I can't have a natural birth due to previous scarring around the exit point! What happens if you start early and progress quickly?

redwellybluewelly · 20/01/2013 16:55

Sarah they treat you as an EMCS and even the people I know who had babaies very quickly at home only did so because the MWs said they weren;t as far on as they thought!

If you think you are going into labour -> delivery unit pronto!

peardrop2 · 20/01/2013 19:44

Hello ladies Smile can I join your thread? My good MN friend Mrsbri is on here so I thought it would be a nice thread to join.

gem that's really interesting that you ask that question because my stomach has been going really rock hard on and off all weekend and I too wondered if it was contraction related. I told myself to stop being silly and it must just be gas Hmm

peardrop2 · 20/01/2013 19:45

Sorry that last bit was for grainmum. Don't know who gem is!

forgetmenots · 20/01/2013 20:14

Welcome peardrop! How far along are you? hope you are feeling well. MrsBri is right, it's a nice bunch on here!

MrsBri · 20/01/2013 20:31

Yay, Peardrop :-) Nice to see you here!

My bump alternates between hard and soft. Haven't worked out why yet.

But then, I haven't really worked pregnancy out yet either!!

learnermummy · 20/01/2013 21:15

Never had any Brixton hicks in previous 2 pregnancies so can't help there!

peardrop2 · 20/01/2013 21:29

Hello forgetmenots my EDD is May 21. First child.

peardrop2 · 20/01/2013 21:30

I am coming up to 23weeks on Tuesday.

peardrop2 · 20/01/2013 22:13

Maybe the hardness is just a sign of the tummy growing?
