Hi everyone,

Brodiesmummy I'm so sorry to hear your news.
Northerner I hope the bleeding stops for you soon. Mine did stop by itself and they didn't find a reason for it.

Since my bleeding last week and my scan I've thankfully been fine. Had booking in appointment on Sunday and midwife was not worried as bleeding has just stopped by itself. As I had a scan last week I don't get my 12 week scan so won't see anyone now until 20 weeks. Seems a long wait.

I've not been telling many people about being pg so far as we wanted to wait until after 12 weeks, but am now 11+3 and suddenly can't wait to tell! Anyone else found this?

And no I can't get into my trousers anymore either (in the afternoon)

MeAndMyBoy · 18/04/2006 14:00

Awayfromhome - just been doing some research into the nuchal scan this morning. Yes the scan needs to be done before 13+6 weeks. There is a blood test that is normally done routinely at 16 weeks. I think the suggestion is that you have a blood test and the scan done to help give you a more accurate risk factor.

Check at your hospital the 12 week scan is not the same as the nuchal scan and in most areas it's not offered routinely.

I found this quite helpful

harrogatemum · 18/04/2006 14:02

am I the only one who has no problem with their trousers? Mine do up just fine and am just coming up to 9 weeks. Maybe give it a bit longer! I didnt show with twins until 15 weeks last time so it must be my loooooong body.

mygirllolipop · 18/04/2006 14:20

I'm sorry I am useless with nuchal stuff. I don't plan on having any extra tests done. I have my 12 and 20 week scans to look forward to and am having my booking in appointment with the midwife this Sunday. I have been tot he hospital once (for a dating scan and to see the endocrine consultant) and don't have to go back til I'm 24wks - which is unusual but I'm looking forward to being left alone. When I see the MW I expect she'll leave me alone for a bit too! the hospital offered me blood tests for sickle cell anaemia too which I turned down.
Anyone else find their kids are driving them to distraction during these hols?

eeyoreuk · 18/04/2006 14:28

Hi

I have just booked my nuchal scan with the local private hospital - they do the scan and blood test together. At this hospital they do the scan between 11+4 and 13+3. My NT scan is next monday morning. But my date scan with the local midwife is not until 4th May even though I saw her on the 30 March.

speak to you all later
eeyore

awayfromhome · 18/04/2006 14:31

MeandMyBoy - thanks that was really helpful. I think that means that I will be having my muchal fold scan done this thursday as I have a scan at 11 weeks.

staceym11 · 18/04/2006 14:51

am i really dumb not knowing what a nuchal scan is??

iv been offered the test for sickle cell but dont see the point as dd hasnt had any problems and therefore that would lead me to believe this one will be fine!!

im only going to have the routine stuff, the two scans (more to see my baby than see if anything is wrong, dont know why but am convinced its al fine) and then the routine appointments will the midwife and gp!

having a bit of a problem with hospitals atm as we'r moving soon (as you all well know) and will be changing boroughs, i owuld like to keep my care here now really as me dp and dd were all born at the same hospital and i thought itd be nice for this little one to be born there to but as we are in a different borough i dont think il be allowed, will try and find out from the midwives next week!

right have bored you ladies enough today me thinks, problem is i have so much energy today but dd has been asleep most of the day!! arrrgggghhh! oh well will have to get out and about this afternoon i suppose!

Mummy2Toby · 18/04/2006 14:55

Hi everyone,
Hope that you all had a good bank holiday Smile
My scan is tomorrowGrin and when I go to the hospital they take the bloods, then I go over for the scan, which is the dating scan (and they also check the Nuchal Fold) then I go back after the scan for the results of the blood tests. That way, they have the combined results of the Nuchal scan and the bloods and they then give you the risk factors (if there are any)- I am glad that they do it all in one go really, I found it reassuring with ds as you know everything almost straight away!
I too am living in tracksuit bottoms atm - my mum thinks that I have my dates wrong or that I am having twinsShock! I just think that my body stretched quickly because ds is only 17 months! Either way - I will know tomorrow Grin Take Care and I will let you all know how I got on tomrrow.

staceym11 · 18/04/2006 15:02

everyone has been telling me iv got my dates wrong or have twins, but as you have mummytotoby i also have a child around the same age (18 month) so think the body has just given out! lol

MeAndMyBoy · 18/04/2006 15:26

Staceym, when I discovered I was pg first time I was registered at my doc's which is in a different area to where we were living.
I started and continued my care at that doc's surgery and gave birth at their hospital.

Then the only thing that had to change was after the birth my care moved to the area we are living in is as the midwives from the other surgery were not able to cover here as it's too far.

Leave your antenatal care where you are - register DH and DD at the new doc's and stay were you are for yourself, also you can choose to give birth in any hospital you want to - doesn't have to the local one. I was told I could go to Scotland if I wanted to!!

MommyUpNorth · 18/04/2006 15:28

Brodiesmummy I'm so sorry to read your news.

Northerner I'm glad that your scan was fine. I do hope the bleeding stops very soon.

I've finally booked my appointment with the midwife for this Friday when I should be 9 weeks. This is probably the latest I've waited! Anyway, they said they'll book a scan for shortly after that appointment, and then see me again at 12 weeks.

Nothing exciting happening here. Went to take DD to school this morning as on our holiday sheet it says that the school reopens today after the Easter break and even has yesterday as the inservice day... but guess what! No one was there but teachers. I feel like such a loser sometimes! LOL! Well the kids were thrilled to all come grocery shopping this morning... simple pleasures! :)

Esmummy · 18/04/2006 15:32

Midwife called me back and i have my booking appointment tomorrow at 10 Grin yippeeeee.

Am also unsure what a Nuchal Fold scan is - well i know what it is but is that different from your standard dating scan then or do they test the tissue at your dating scan if you've requested it ?
I wont be having it done either Stace, we didn't have any of the additional tests done with DD so don't see the point with this one.

NatalieJane · 18/04/2006 15:43

Everyone seems to be so close to their scan, I am not even being booked in with the midwife till 2nd May, and goodness knows how long it will take for a scan date to come through.

Having said that though, just worked out I will be 9.4 when I see the midwife, what are the chances of still getting a scan before or around 12 weeks?

pinkmagic1 · 18/04/2006 16:16

Called the hospital today and booked myself in for my dating scan. Its the 4th May so I will be almost 14 weeks by then. There was an appointment available next thursday when I will be almost 13 weeks but the women on the phone said it would be better to do it a little latter. I think it must be the hospitals policy as last time round I was about 14 weeks and so where many other people I know who have used the same hospital.

NatalieJane · 18/04/2006 16:25

Last time I thought I was about 11 weeks when we went for the scan, but as it turned out I was only 9 weeks, I suppose that is why I am feeling a bit behind!

Jen1209 · 18/04/2006 17:18

Hi all, I am at home today after being sent home from work due to a very heavy cold and v bad morning sickness (threw up twice at work). Have spent the afternoon on the sofa feeling v sorry for myself :(

I have my early scan tomorrow (will be 9 + 2) so v excited and worried about that. I have never got this far before (m/c was confirmed at 7 + 5 but had been bleeding for 10 days by then) I have then booked to see the Dr on Thursday am to make it all official (hopefully) - I am going to push for a 12 week scan as well so I have got something to show people when we tell them (I shall ask for a picture tomorrow but realise it prob won't happen) Going to talk to the Dr on Thursday about the different tests and things available. Hope my midwife appointment comes through fast - last time it was for when I would have been around 19 weeks!!!

twocatsonthebed · 18/04/2006 17:18

hello everyone

blimey, I really can't keep up with this thread at all, although this partly because my brain has turned to porridge and I am so tired and stupid that the doctor has signed me off work for a couple of weeks. Which is all well and good, except I'm a freelance and so don't get paid. But then he said, and imagine how awful you'd feel if something went wrong. So I'm at home...

eeyoreuk will let you know how nuchal fold scan goes - and you let me know how you get on.

esmummy the nuchal fold scan (along with blood tests) tells you your risk of downs syndrome, and a few other problems. Not every area does it though. I'm getting it done privately because I'm 40, and the risk of downs is much higher the older you get.

And amazingly, I'm still in my jeans, despite not doing any exercise for weeks on account of the feeling like death. This may be because I feel so queasy in the evening that not only can I not cook, but I can't eat that much either (I frequently have to run out of the kitchen, telling dp that I can't face looking at what's on my plate any longer). Please someone tell me that this bit ends soon...

How's everyone else?

Tinasan · 18/04/2006 17:52

Hi all,

Can't keep up with all these posts! Hi to everyone that is new and Brodiesmummy, I'm really sorry about your sad news.

I had my nuchal scan today and all went well, risk is now 1/8400 which is definitely good enough for me! We have a 3D piccie too and were told that the baby is 80% likely to be a little girl - so exciting!!! I am 12 weeks today so due date is changed to 31st October, and have had to get myself some maternity trousers as everything else was so uncomfortable. I was a bit worried as it seems a bit soon to be showing but the doc today said it really depends on how small your frame is - I'm quite little so I guess there's not a lot of room for everything in there!

Sorry to waffle on but it is all finally becoming real to us now!
Tinasan

mygirllolipop · 18/04/2006 17:57

Ah tinasan that might explain it. I'm only 5ft2 so no room at all, plus the others have stretched some room for this one including DD3 who is just one.

NatalieJane · 18/04/2006 18:12

Now I am really starting to wonder (or worry might be the best word!) if there is more than one baby in there, I am only about 5ft 5", but before I was PG I was a size 12/14, hadn't been PG for 4 years, and yet I am still bigger now(8.4 weeks) than I was half way through my last pregnancy. And in fact my stretch marks from last time have come back all red and itchy again, so my skin is already starting to stretch a bit...

Tinasan · 18/04/2006 18:15

Hi mygirllolipop,

Yup I'm 5'4 and am small framed so the doc today said there's nowhere for baby to go but outwards!!

For everyone who's confused about nuchal scans - basically it is a scan that is done b/w 11-14 weeks, it's not invasive but takes lots of measurements of the baby including the nuchal fold at the back of its neck. These measurements, usually combined with blood tests will give a risk measurement for downs and other chromosonal abnormalities. We had ours done privately at the Fetal Medicine Centre as I have to work abroad on the date my local hospital gave me, but I know that the 12 week scan on the NHS in my area is a nuchal one. So maybe people are having the nuchal scan and are just calling it a 12 week scan? Sorry I am waffling incoherently and am probably telling everybody basic things that they already knwo...

twocatsonthebed · 18/04/2006 18:20

ooh, Tinasan, I'm going to the FMC too - on the basis of loads of recommendations on mumsnet, How were they? And what a good result for you - as I'm older I think mine won't be so low...

Northerner · 18/04/2006 21:43

Hi guys. Bad news here I'm afraid. I miscarried last night. Deep down I knew something wasn't quite right and yesterday things got worse, without going into too much detail.

Spent today feeling pretty numb and very tearful but I've got lots of support from family and friends and a lovely dh and of course my beatuful ds.

So will sadly bow out of this thread now, but wish you all happy and healthy pregnancies. xx.

Hattie05 · 18/04/2006 22:48

Sad sorry to hear that northnener xxx

I've been keeping away from here as i'm in a weird place in my head where i won't let myself really believe all is well. I am 9 weeks now and terrified that when i go for my scan in two weeks time there will be nothing there! With dd i couldn't wait to tell everyone i was pg, but i've only told close family and friends this time.
I keep trying to reassure myself that i have some symptoms - but not a lot - slight nausea and weeing all the time. I can't work out if i have a bump or just completely bloated most of the time! And my boobs have stopped hurting.

Oh please fast forward to the 4 May my scan date!

twocatsonthebed · 18/04/2006 23:04

northerner, really sorry to hear that - especially after you thought it might be OK. Will be thinking of you.
