Missmuffet28 · 30/11/2012 18:32

So there go I got it rolling you can all share now!!!

If wriggler was a girl he would probably have been called Isabella Smile

Missmuffet28 · 30/11/2012 18:35

I have my pram on baby plan you can put as much as you like in it as long as 10percent of the total is paid we plan to go this weekend and put some sterilising stuff and a baby monitor on it too and you have to pay the balance 10 days or so iirc before delivery and there is a £10 admin fee but that's it no interest or anything I think it's rather good and make sure you price match everything!!! You can save yourself loads by doin that! X

steph2412 · 30/11/2012 18:41

Thanks missmuffet does it have to come to a certain amount?ive chosen my pram from mamas and papas only need the small things from mothercare but would like to know there on order iykwim?

Missmuffet28 · 30/11/2012 19:08

Ooh I don't know to be honest i think because we opened it with the pram she didnt mention a minimum amount i wouldn't have thought so though :D

EmpressMatilda · 30/11/2012 19:14

So pleased that scans are continuing to go well and people are getting past their scares. And not long to go for mama before LO has a great chance. Yay!

Thanks for starting off the names discussion missmuffet I am in a very similar situation about names. We could broadly agree on girl names (would probably have been Ariane but there were a couple of other contenders we both liked) but with boys we are in disagreement. I have looked and looked and can only come up with a shortlist of about six names that work for me. DH hates five of them. I asked for his suggestions but I think they are all too weird and outlandish! I am not calling my son Tiberius or Odin, it aint happening.

So in a way we are down to one name and I like it a lot but am aware that it's my original suggestion rather than his and it's also quite ordinary by our standards. I am taking the 'stand back and let it sink in' approach and yesterday I did hear DH refer to bump by that name. Fingers crossed he won't change his mind. Four months is plenty of time for that.

I don't want to leave the decision until the birth. I am convinced DH will strike while I'm weak and I will end up in some exhausted haze saying 'yes I always thought Tiberius was a great name'.

My six are: Alexander, Leo, Toby, Marcus, Samuel and Rufus. One of them is our main contender. Saying which would somehow jinx it though!!!

I think Isabella is lovely but we wouldn't use it as a friend of mine already grabbed it!

And thanks for suggesting Oscar. I like that a lot. You should totally go for that one!

In terms of buying stuff I now have a drawer full of baby clothes varying from newborn to 9-12 months, mostly gifts from my sister when she visited recently but a few I've bought. We just bought a second hand maxi-cosi car seat off ebay. That's all we have. I am only just beginning to get my head around all the things we need to get. I don't want to overpurchase as we are pushed for space and on a budget. It does focus the mind a bit though, just to look at essentials.

Having said before how jolly and excited I am about being pregnant I was brought down a bit by a nasty cold. Serves me right! I am otherwise OK though. 22 weeks today! Safely past halfway Grin

JaquelineHyde · 30/11/2012 19:32

Oooh name talk Yay Grin

We too have Oscar on our list. It was number 1 for a very long time for us but has now gone off the boil for us. Other names include

Arthur
Hugo
Rupert
Benjamin
&
Theo

Still coming up with them but there are 2 main contenders at the moment.

If it was a girl then it would have been a toss up between Jemima and Matilda.

Giddypants · 30/11/2012 19:34

Good to hear from you mama and cadmum

I think I really need to invest in some new bras tomorrow I'm spilling out of these ones!

DS has had D&V for the past 5 days, think he is finally getting over it now thankfully me and DH haven't caught it.

We have a growing list of names, for boys, there are just a few, Oscar, and Oliver, I really love merlin, but DH has vetoed lol

For girls there are a few more, Eden, holly, merryn, Hayley, aurelia, Lauren, Abby, Hannah, Erin I'm sure the lists will grow!

kellestar · 30/11/2012 19:35

JH phew glad to hear you are all right and you got to see little one a little sooner.

Mama also glad you are still holding on well there, I thought bed rest last time cos of SPD was a drag, but at least I could still waddle to the loo, make a fishfinger buttie and recline in front of a good movie/box set in the comfort of my own home.

names wise, we have a huge list of girls names that go nicely with DD, in fact we keep finding more names for the list and we both agree on them... They are all quirky choices and though I've seen them in the names list, most of them aren't in the top 100. DD is Beatrice.

Boys names are hard. we each like one name, but we don't like each others choices... same names as were on the debate list when we had DD. I just can't get boys names. I like classic, but different, but not too different or too mainstream and he's the same. His choice is his grandad's middle name, but I can't stand the nickname version and I know loads of family will call him that and I shudder everytime I hear someone using that name. However my choice is classic, popular and very mainstream but the nicknames are better. I think we are really going to have to break out the big guns for this one.

kellestar · 30/11/2012 19:38

JH all those boys names are my close friends little boys and they are lovely choices. And your girl choices are on DH's list.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 30/11/2012 19:51

OMG Giddy I love Merlin and would never have thought of that in a million years. Might have to increase my shortlist to 2 :o

My shortlist is Jacob (possibly Jake for short). My dad was James and passed away the month before we conceived. Jacob and James are different versions of the same name.

I also quite like Gabriel but worry that my brothers some people would take the piss because they think it's a girls name when it isn't.

EssexWelsh · 30/11/2012 20:21

Just found you, my mumsnet app has updated on my iPhone and got rid of my favs etc and making you guys hard to find!!

Happy Friday all as I catch up on today!

EssexWelsh · 30/11/2012 20:33

Ooh names help, yes help! I had the girls name totally done and dusted Seren-it's Welsh for star, popular in Wales but unheard up here and just a lovely pretty but strong name IMO!

But boys-soooo stuck, so far our short list that we both don't hate is Ellis, Elijah, Guy, Rohan.

I love Reuben but it rhymes with the surname so it's a no.

DP also likes Lancaster-nickname 'Bomber' if you please and Reggie or Ronnie! Needless to say in big capitals VETO!!!! I do worry what I am breeding with here Shock

toobreathless · 30/11/2012 20:41

I love name chat! :) I could talk names all night, sadly DH has the attention span of a flea for baby names.

DD is Hazel. Be warned I tend to over analyse these things.

Our criteria

  • Not 'trendy'- I worry that some names are on the up and will date, Iris, Ivy, Florence, Benedict, Oscar. Beatrice, for example has soared in popularity- up 300 places I think and I worry would date despite being 116 I think at present.
  • Unusual- not top 100.
  • Relatively easy to say & spell.
  • Earthy/Nature theme without being too matchy with Hazel.

Girls names I LOVE but wouldn't use due to above concerns/our surname: Amber, Beatrice, Merryn, Miriam, Iris. DH has vetoed Astrid, Esther, Verity, Violet and Thea.

Current favourite is Celeste probably with Elizabeth as middle name. It means heavenly & there were 29 baby girls called it in 2010 & never more than 40 a year since 1996.

My rather unrefined boys name (now redundant) did include: Percy, Hector, Emmett, Ambrose, Clement, Hugo, Edwin, Ernest, Gregor, Walter, Gray, Heath.

22 weeks today :)

usernamegoeshere · 30/11/2012 20:53

yey names! Current shortlist is Lilly Anne and Elizabeth. Although I love Iris now you mention it.

Ratbag was it you a bit worried about movement recently? did you feel any yet? Meant to reply at the time but read your post when I was away & hate posting from mobile & only just realised not seen anything from you since.

SneezySnatcher · 30/11/2012 21:07

Ooooh names! We have been struggling with names as we were so convinced we were having another girl we hadn't even looked at boys' names!
I went through the book last night and wrote down all the names I loved/quite liked. There were about thirty names. DH went through with a pen and we ended up with...
Christopher (Kit)
Edward
Frank
George
Henry
Joseph
Marcus
Samuel
Timothy
One I really, really love and I'm hoping DH will agree. DD is Jennifer.

Giddypants · 30/11/2012 21:38

Thanks flamimg it would go really well with our (boring) surname but DH hates it. We already have Elliot which took us aged to agree on.

I really love seren, but again DH keeps adding dippidy to the end ggggrrrrr!

milktraylady · 30/11/2012 21:48

Had our 20 week scan today. It all went well thankfully.
And it's a girl! Yippee very excited Smile

NotShortImFunSized · 30/11/2012 21:59

toobreathless I'm pretty sure you already included my blue bump in the stats before as I had a scan at 17wks, sorry to mess your lovely list up!

Jaqueline what fantastic news, I am so pleased for you Smile

Loving all the names. So far I have Jacob or Oliver. I seem to have used all the boys names I like already! I have so many girls names that I like, shame I will never get to use them now. I've been looking online at lists full of boys names. It's just made my eyes go fuzzy and is driving me bonkers!

NotShortImFunSized · 30/11/2012 22:13

Cadmum - How are you doing? You're so wonderful to be here for everyone else and asking after others after everything you are going through at the moment. I hope you don't mind, I amended the due date list to include arrivals too and added Rachel to that. I hope that is ok? Also I wasn't quite sure of the date so I hope I haven't got it wrong Confused xx

toobreathless · 30/11/2012 22:29

Funsized tut tut! :)

Congrats milktray on your girl.

15 girls
16 boys
14 surprises

Trishstar · 30/11/2012 23:52

Ahhh names!!!

Our little man will be called Hunter Isaac

OH's surname is Jukes

enjay0811 · 01/12/2012 00:12

Ah giddy Dd1 is called Aurelia n I may b biased but love it! We always get comments on how nice it is and unusual. Dd2 is poppy and if bump is a girl the name of the moment is bonnie. Tht will prob change tho Smile boys names r so hard! We did like Oliver but a friends ds is called this n the other is flynn. My cousin just had ds1 and called him Henry which I like. Love rohan Essex.

Mama1980 · 01/12/2012 07:43

Morning all I hope everyone has a good weekend. Lovely to hear all the name talk.
My baby will be called Alexander Thor and have my surname. Smile dd decided alexander for Alexander the Great (I'm a archaeologist/classicist) and Thor for strength plus my best friend is Danish she gave it a lot of thought bless her.
I can't give my ds 1 s name as it will out me instantly its very unusual but my dd (though obviously I didn't name her!) is Chloe but goes by coco.
I love merlin whoever suggested that.

Giddypants · 01/12/2012 08:06

Aurelia is such a gorgeous name, I've loved it ever since I first heard it, it doesn't quite sit well with our surname (smith) but, I really don't care if it was up to me I would have it.
I like Chloe too, I had a friend in little school with a sister called Chloe, she was a bit older and ever so much more refined, I always think of her when I hear a Chloe!

I love your choice of name mama very fitting Smile

bunnygirl80 · 01/12/2012 08:17

jaqueline hope you're feeling better. Glad your scan showed a normal bladder, and here's hoping your next scan shows those cysts are nothing to worry about.

I love seeing everyone's name shortlists. I'm going to be a party pooper and keep my mouth shut about my preferred names, because I really don't want anyone in rl to know until we announce it after the birth. I have friends who want to know, and I'm not telling, and they know full well I post on here and they're not afraid of a bit of mn stalking.

I do have a number of rules
1 no names beginning with A because its the first letter of our surname and I don't like alliterative names
2 nothing beginning with N because it'll lead to an unfortunate nickname due to our surname
3 nothing that ends in a y or an e sound because that will rhyme with our surname and I don't like rhyming names
4 I'm not bothered about popularity (DS's name has been number 1 in NSW for about 5 years) but nothing faddy. So it can be a well used classic but not something that will say "born in 2013"

So far all of DH's suggestions have fallen foul of one or more of my rules Grin
