Sorry VQ cross posted there Blush been offline most of day as doing some housework then went out for a roast with the family. Had some BH and pains earlier but they have gone now. Wheezy chest and cough is bit better too so think I've escaped an infection, fingers crossed Smile

MissMummy1 · 21/10/2012 19:58

Thanks ladies, I'm still undecided. DH has struck a deal that if I sell some of my useless crap that's cluttering up the house worldy belongings on eBay, he'll match whatever I make and buy me whatever changing bag I like. Suppose it'll give me something to amuse myself with, wonder if it extends to selling his rubbish? Smile

Had a lovely afternoon with him in Perth. Somehow he managed to detour via a toyota dealership to perve over look at the hilux he wants. Despite my protests I was quite impressed with it, they're a lot comfier than the ancient one my dad had years ago. Wouldn't fancy driving it in town myself though! We didn't buy it (thank god!) but I think it might happen before the year is out - we'll see... Was great to just spend some time with him afterwards, although I did have some scary strong braxton hicks with all the walking we did Hmm... Got treated to a lovely dinner in town before heading home which was a lovely bonus!

ValiumQueen · 21/10/2012 20:15

Good kissy hope you continue to improve.

My rings came off around now with DD1 and have yet to go on again. I had tiny fingers, but probably need to accept that I do not have tiny fingers any more.

YellowWellies · 21/10/2012 20:25

Uh oh MM... seriously - how many miles to the gallon does the Hilux do? I would really really veer away from a car that's that fuel hungry as you might find paying to run it constrains your lifestyle massively in the future - especially on one wage. If you want to scare yourself - google 'peak oil'. Energy industry insiders have been talking about it for years - and very few that I work with actually EXACTLY none that I know drive anything that is going to be that much of a fuel liability. And that includes those who work in the oil industry.

VQ the snow looks set to be a feature of the winter for Scotland and the North of England again - like the winters of 09-10 and 10-11. It's set to start from the end of this week with temperatures of -18 forecast by the models for November. Up here on the island we're so maritime we tend to escape the worst of it but it looks like even we'll get snow. I'm getting a bit worried at the prospect of DH, the cat and fishtank driving south from Orkney when we move in January...

Passmethecrisps · 21/10/2012 20:25

Sounds lovely mm. I'll bet Perth was lovely today.

See VQ it's the not getting them back on that worries me. Strangely, because my fingers are were extremely narrow with large knuckle my rings have always been an odd fit. The two are supposed to sit together but previously always rotated round as they had to e too big to get them over my knuckles. Now they sit beautifully but t certain time of day there is no way I would get them off even with soap.

ValiumQueen · 21/10/2012 20:29

pass I would rather take them off than have them cut off.

Passmethecrisps · 21/10/2012 20:30

Are you having a giraffe YW? Was it November 2010 when we had utterly horrendous weather? It was -15 for a week in Stirling. My school was closed for a week and I had to take an extra day off as the weather got worse for me in Stirling as it moved over from Fife. There were days it took me 4 hours to drive the 40 miles to work. I love my car but it is a nightmare in the snow. I won't miss a winter driving!

Passmethecrisps · 21/10/2012 20:34

Yup VQ I know what you are saying. I've only had the engagement ring since November and the wedding ring in December. I suppose I should just get then off - I am not quite sure how they would be cut off

pikz · 21/10/2012 20:36

Am in super nesting mode....have become fanatical about sorting the house out...

I too am now ready for this baby to come...feels like the next 4 weeks could go really slowly :( am quite jealous of all the babies arriving now...

ValiumQueen · 21/10/2012 20:40

My gran had her rings cut off in hospital. Gold is pretty soft, especially higher carat stuff. Hopefully with lubrication they will come off.

YW Thank you for the snow forecast. I had just returned off mat leave Nov 2010 and had to walk to my local surgery as I could not get to my clinic. Snow is lovely if you can stay in the warm and just look out, or play in it, but driving in it, not nice. I remember going to the roundabout at the end of my road and driving so carefully still ended up sliding and facing the wrong way. I went home. The year before I was pg and got stuck in the middle of the Clackmannan bridge. That was hideous too. I still think of it each time I drive over that bridge.

DesperateHousewife21 · 21/10/2012 20:46

I took my engagement and wedding rings off yesterday. They weren't too tight but getting that way and really didnt want them to get stuck. There were indents in my finger where they sat so glad I took them off now.
I had to take a ring off when preg with ds too.

kissyfur · 21/10/2012 20:55

Think I took my engagement ring off about 2 months ago, bought myself a larger cubic zirconia blingy one as a stand in Wink

MissMummy1 · 21/10/2012 20:59

Don't worry YW - the Hilux would be converted to run on used cooking oil as all our big gas-guzzling monster trucks have been. He's still not getting one for the simple reason I can't guarantee we'll be able to afford the finance so easily in a few years time. I'm still convinced a nice wee 85mpg, tax exempt corsa is the way to go when the time comes to get rid of my citroen!

I remember winter 2010 too. I was commuting from my flat in Aberdeen to a school in Peterhead for a uni placement and the weather was horrible. Some mornings it was -20degc! I also remember that winter so well as DH and I had our first big fight (I genuinely, not making excuses for him, was the one being an absolute twat that time) and I kicked myself out of my own flat at 2am before setting off for Edinburgh in the car. In a blizzard. My mum was horrified when I turned up at home about 6 hours later!! And seriously unimpressed that my car was snowed in for a whole week and I couldn't go back to uni. I have a photo of it somewhere, will try and stick it on fb page.

Anyway, I digress. Just looking at the weather charts we are in for a god awful November weather-wise. Touchwood the village shouldn't get cut off as all the construction workers for the new bridge need access at the far end and so far have been good at maintaining the roads. If all else fails, we have the boat!

horseylady · 21/10/2012 21:00

My rings are ok? When does the swelling start?!

Passmethecrisps · 21/10/2012 21:04

It maybe won't horsey. I have only had this a week or so. I developed carpel tunnel overnight and my rings have gradually got tighter. To look at my fingers you wouldn't really notice - they don't look particularly swollen. My concern is that the rings are platinum. I think I might back down tomorrow and get them off.

kirrinIsland · 21/10/2012 21:05

The price of those storksacs is unbelievable - very nice though!

I'm definitely going to dig out my bouncing ball if that's the effect they have!! I've been having pain on and off all day but despite hoping for it being labour pains I think it's really a side effect of the bloody iron tablets......

I had managed to get lots of baby stuff washed, was nearly done then the machine broke :( I've been without it since Thursday. Luckily it's replacement is being delivered tomorrow.

Passmethecrisps · 21/10/2012 21:08

Right! If we do get a storksak I will never take it off - bye bye school bag!

kirrin bounce that poo out!

kirrinIsland · 21/10/2012 21:12

I hate driving in snow, it terrifies me. I have twice spun on ice, the second time the car was a write off. We don't usually get it toooo bad down here though. Can't imagine dealing with it being like you Scots are describing!

kirrinIsland · 21/10/2012 21:14

pass Grin. blowing the ball up has been added to my very short list of things I must do tomorrow.

YellowWellies · 21/10/2012 21:22

Crapweasel MM just seen that pic of your car snowed in in the bay!!! I think that was the winter we were living in South Queensferry. I do love a good snowy winter but then I'm a climate scientist by trade, so am a total weather anomaly geek** and I don't drive. I also have a Northface McMurdo men's down winter coat. The warmest coat they do - even in -20 in Glenshee a couple of years ago I was as snug as a bug.

** geek alert from your friendly updiffed climate scientist:

Ignore the predictable Daily Mail musing (at the first sign of snow) on how can climate change lead to snow - which is a total massacring of the science. Bizarrely it does seem as though the high pressures which keep forming over Greenland in recent years due to melting sea ice (you get a column of warm air above melted ice) and slow to reform winter ice are leading to this sort of winter for us and N. Europe as it causes big kinks in the jet stream which make for wet summers and potentially baltic winters (if other factors such as the North Atlantic and Arctic oscillations are playing ball).

As an interested scientist I'm very excited. As a Mum to be planning a midwinter move through Northern Scotland - I'm a bit more Shock about the whole thing...

horseylady · 21/10/2012 21:23

We picked deamon dog up in the horrendous snow last year. Thankfully we were in my wonderful Santa fe!!! Deamon dog was very good and behaved herself the whole journey. Which was about 8 hours for what should have been a 2 hr journey.

Anyway, we got her home, we got home but it was bloody scary!! ESP when on the other side of the road there were lorries jack knifed and roads closed.

YellowWellies · 21/10/2012 21:24

I took my wedding and engagement rings off last month - don't want them cut off - that's got to be bad luck as far as the symbolism goes!!!

I do really miss mine. Can't wait to put them on post birth. Does the swelling go down pretty quick?

horseylady · 21/10/2012 21:30

Yw - I'm not sure what I make of 'climate change' or global warming. I don't think it's good the amount of crap we pump into the environment and we should look at reducing emissions, however even you look at climate statistics in terms of geology, we have been through hot and cold spells before. Our trajectory around the sun doesn't just follow a 365 day pattern but also one over thousands of years where our summers are warmer and winters cooler. Plus the uk climate is hugely affected by the jet stream. If it shifts, we really struggle. As this summer showed.

DesperateHousewife21 · 21/10/2012 21:35

kirrin I read today that our area is meant to be v mild this week then turning cold after that but don't know if it'll snow yet. Really hope not I hate driving/ walking in snow.

TheDetective · 21/10/2012 21:44

I'm so tired. I should go to bed. But it is early!

I'm very full from tea still! I had to sit on the birth ball just to give me a little interior room Grin
