mandasand I would like to join the fb group but never figured out how to. Should I pm you?

On the 20 week scan I guess my experiences this last week is a reminder that this is an anomaly scan and that whilst gender is interesting to know it is actually not that important in the scheme of things.
However my recent experience is quite unusual. I have had 3 pg where this was a great chance to get a good look at and bond with baby. It does take longer and if baby is not in an easy position for them to take the measurements they will poke you, send you off for a walk, tell you to eat sugary food/drink to get baby to move, and even make another appointment as a last resort.
It is fascinating though as they work their way down the body and look at everything!
I only had an inkling anything was wrong right at the end but a little bit of you always worries going into this one.

Try to enjoy and not be too worried! Good luck for all of you still to have your scans Smile

Evening all! Am back at work after a wee holiday and have had to hit the ground running... feel like I've never been away! Still coughing, spluttering and mouth-breathing but am feeling a bit better. Here's hoping the cold is on its way out. Was reprimanded by a pupil today for 'eating in class' until I showed him the packet of lockets and asked him if he'd rather have a supply teacher. He looked a bit sheepish. [hwink]

Anyhoo, will try and catch up now! Hope all bumps and mums-to-be are well!

StealthToddler · 01/11/2012 19:46

Hi myjob not so much feeling relaxed as acceptance that what is done is done and cannot be undone. Making the decision to have the test was the hardest part, so now I am just fingers crossed the results are clear. Super bored on bed rest! Tv is useless so just reading and enjoyed bath time with kids but just watched. Dh getting takeout for us as he doesn't do cooking bless him!!! Have also eaten a huge amount of the kids trick n treating bounty!
Feel ok but got some twinges if I lean over do just resting but feel a complete fake for it ifkwim!

lannyshrops · 01/11/2012 20:03

Evening all!

How much damage dis you do in Ikea and Mothercare pink?!?

tramp sympaties in relation to milk-jug-gate. Hopefully he'll learn from this and not do something like this again x

I also remember Charlies cat! Anyone a fan of Simon's cat? So So SO funny! lots of cartoons on Youtube.

Congrats on buggy bargain Chef My SIL went for her social scan and found out sex, but her DH does not want to know so she is keeping ot to herself, how on earth I have no idea!!

Have a Biscuit and a Brew oood xxx

manda We have extended our kitchen diner into the garden and made a second living room and a bit more kitchen with a utility. It's cost about 20K all in but we think will add muchg more than that to the house value. Although, that's not why we have done it, we want to stay here (near to good scools, PIL's, work etc). It is so going to be worth it I think, It was a choice between this and move to get more space and I think this is the right option for us. (Remind me of this next time I am pulling my hair out over dust etc!) I will post pics when all done.

Thankyou for my giggle of the evening dame pictures of the finished aricles please!

Keep resting stealth and keep your chin up lovely x

I had a better day today, much more energised. I find it so wierd that one day I am fine, the next day I feel like I have been run over by a bus, especially when nothing appears to be different! Pregnancy is deffo hard work. Why does no one really tell you this???!! I still have my cold, 14 days now...14 DAYS!!!! There is really no need for this! Can I serve an eviction notice??

Not much else happening with me, just keeping going!

Love to all xxx

pinkpeony4 · 01/11/2012 20:49

Octobercarrot Yes that's the buggy I think I will get. Winstanley's Pram world has it for £485 with a free raincover & friends who have used it have used a Phil & Teds Cocoon for a newborn on the seat which lies flat. You can attach the cocoon using the D-rings. I love the cocoon & it's fab when you are at playgroup etc.. so you can just carry your sleeping baby in it & leave the buggy outside. I had a 2 years 4 month gap between ds1 + 2 and then a 22 month gap between ds2 + 3. This time there will be a 2 year 3 month gap. What will yours be? The good thing about the baby jogger is definitely the easy fold and that it folds really flat for the car. I used to use the sling (I have an Ergo which is fab and I even used it to carry my hefty 3 year old on my back in Cornwall this summer) & a single when I had to go anywhere in the car but then I didn't have a baby jogger!

With close together babies I found this to be invaluable (I was given one from a friend and removed the hideous covers it came with and used a lovely patchwork quilt to make it comfy. I also attached mobiles etc..) It meant that my baby was safe from my toddler. I used to put the cocoon in it when he was asleep after being out & he often just used to fall asleep in it. It isn't big at all and I used it until he was about 18 months. It was brilliant. My friend now has it for her twins but I will be getting it back! I also kept a full set of changing stuff downstairs so I didn't have to leave my toddler alone when changing a nappy. I bought this & kept nappies, wipes, cream, change of clothes etc... in it so it was all to hand. You can keep a lot of stuff in it.

If I think of anything else I will let you know. Sorry for an essay too!

Tramp grrrrr to your OH & the jug. I would be really sad/angry too [hsad] Good luck for your scan tomorrow

Chefette glad you are feeling better. yay for your bargain pram. That sounds fab.

Ood I can't even imagine what it's like having a teenage girl! My 6 year old has his moments but I am sure it is nothing in comparison to all those hormones!

Dame welcome back [hgrin] I am terribly hormonal and have been since being pregnant with ds1. I can't watch/read anything sad or i'm a wreck!

Zoey Yum to your sweet party!!

Suburban All of mine hated the Bumbo too. In fact I have just been advertising it on gumtree & someone is getting it tomorrow.

Myjob I love seeing external wriggles [hsmile]

Stealth I have also been digging into my older boys trick or treat stash. They have loads and it's good to share [hwink]

Lanny Got what I needed at Ikea although it was stressful with my nearly 2 year old. I was buying large shelves so needed a flat trolley which didn't have a child seat so I had to trust him to walk next to me not something he does well, very easily distracted and likes running away! stuff kept slipping off the trolley & no one would help so it was hard work. But got it all now thank goodness & we had a delicious danish in the cafe! Mothercare was much more fun. I bought some of the Jool's Oliver little bird stuff which is gorgeous. I bought fawn nightie, fawn pyjamas & [[http://www.mothercare.com/Little-Bird-by-Jools-White-Embroidered-Dress/LW0441,default,pd.html?cm_sp=ProductFeatures--Category%2520landing--Little%2520Bird%2520by%2520Jools%2520White%2520Embroidered%2520Dress white dress] all very cute [hsmile] Glad you have had a good day today. I hope it continues.

Hope everyone else is well. Massive apologies for such a massive post!!

Evening everyone. Wow, what a day. I almost got hit by a taxi. The idiot driver decided to do a U-turn on a very narrow street, mounted the pavement and I had to jump backwards to stop him hitting me. Several people in the street were shocked and I was quite shaken. I then got a bit stroppy in the pasty shop because they had run out of the pasty I wanted for lunch Blush

Better afternoon though, got work done and finally made some progress on sorting out maternity leave.

I've just been doing some shopping and now have muslins, all the reusable nappies I will need along with a bucket and moses basket sheets.

I've been a bit anxious as I haven't felt DD as much today but I have felt little bits in different places so I think she has just turned. I have an anterior placenta too.

JoJo All this equipment is so expensive isn't it. You are doing amazingly as a student, I couldn't have done it then :) You will clearly be a great mum.

manda Yay for the painting and taking a break I do worry about how hard you work yourself. How is it all looking?

tramp sorry to hear about the jug. I feel your pain - DH broke a chinese soup spoon that we bought on our travels and I got very upset with him. It was an accident but I was quite sentimental about it. Sorry it was something that reminds you of your gran though, it sounds lovely. Have you still got other parts of the set? Wishing you lots of luck with the scan tomorrow.

DJH The hypnobirthing sounds interesting. I was thinking of reading a book on that. Would be interested to hear more.

Lexi Hope you got some rest today. Your new name is lovely :)

Chef Glad to hear sickness is better. Yay for the pram, sounds like a good one.

dame Parliament? Sounds like you do something interesting. Love the sound of your antiques. Piccies?

MrsRigby Please see your GP. You could be depressed and it would really help. Take care.

myjob How lovely that you saw movement like that :)

HermioneBoo · 01/11/2012 21:54

Hello! I have been buying things again Blush this time I was trying to waste some time whilst waiting for traffic to subside and thought I'd see whether TKMaxx have anything for BabyBoo and I went a bit mad :) six sleep suits, socks, hats, bibs, a little towel wrap, a little elephant toy and all for £30. Two of the sleep suits are covered in little cats so DH said I had to buy it, especially when the socks have cat faces over the toes! I just wish it was as cheap for me to buy so many outfits.

We've had to do a bit of negotiation with the pram we liked, PIL very kindly said they would buy the pram for us as they do for all their grandchildren however when we came back with some prices they said that they'd got the last pram for about £200 and had we checked the sales. I'm normally not a fussy person and usually back down when someone is buying me something but this pram is something I'm going to use every day so I want value for money, reliable, light, compact and will last for longer than a few months (so pram and pushchair and car seat adapters). I love the look of the Uppababy Vista but never played with one, I have played with the iCandy peach, cherry and apple but wasn't entirely swayed, and then I fell in love with the BabyStyle Oyster - everything I wanted and is in a bundle with the car seat in a local shop. It's nearly £450 for the bundle but I'm being made to feel that this is an extortionate amount to pay. I have been saving so can afford to put some money towards it, but there's this voice at the back of my mind saying that ill regret paying so much.

Sheldon hope you're ok after the taxi almost knocking you over, scary :(

HermioneBoo · 01/11/2012 22:00

Oh and crazy hormone central over here at the moment, I cried over Dumbo, Monsters Inc, the kitchen bin being full, I couldn't think what music I liked, my bf offering to throw me a tea party for my birthday, probably a few other things too! Oh and TMI alert, is anyone finding the crazy hormones extend to feeling rather frisky at inappropriate times? It was 4am this morning! Not that DH minded but I'm not sure I've ever woken him up so early with a request like that before!

Oodcantthinkofanewname · 01/11/2012 22:12

pink teenagers are interesting, dd1 is only just arriving there so I've a few years to go yet but IME at work 14-15 is the worst age!
Dd1 goes from one extreme to the other, dd2 will be more challenging I think, she's a risk taker and is v difficult yo reason with ( possibly about to start assessment for ASD).

mandasand · 01/11/2012 22:26

Wow, I'm shattered! Going to catch up properly with everyone's news tomorrow. Right now I'm still in the midst of clearing the house up a bit around DH who is finishing off a bit of ceiling painting as we've got a possible cleaner coming for a try-out tomorrow (and I know if I don't tidy up now I'll end up spending all morning on it and I'm v.v. behind with work) and also tomorrow MiL is arriving for the weekend too early in the day for my liking as I'll need to keep working, eek! (Note the clever scheduling of cleaner then MiL.)

Only thing is MiL will be in the guest room, which day-to-day is actually my study and I still haven't cleared the floor from the piles of papers and books left over from writing my book. And there is a sea of discarded tissues under the desk. And a lot of dust. Everywhere. I'm going to have to deal with this tomorrow night, methinks, before she reitres! So, back to it...

Catch up with you all tmrw! Have good sleeps, one and all Smile

sundaesundae · 02/11/2012 07:59

Morning all! Nice to hear so many good scans and excitement on here :) Mine is on Tuesday and I am still petrified about it, but beginning to come to peace with it. I can't change anything, I have no real reason to suspect anything is wrong, but it never leaves my mind.

Bump is definitely getting bigger, pretty sure I have an anterior placenta, when I do feel kicks they are either side and this is where I hear HB, I hear placenta in the middle. I am also feeling dull wiggles and taps and flutters in the middle, but they are less distinguishable from other things.

Woken up in Gloucester with a sore throat and my hubbys yacky cold. I now have to get through a VERY stressful day and a two hour drive home in a courtesy car I am a bit scared of!

Hope everyone is keeping well, how many of us are left to scan?

JoJoBella84 · 02/11/2012 08:11

Argh, what happened to my belly button? It looks... Different!!! :/
Happy Fridays everyone, I have 200 words to write in 3 hours. Reckon I can manage that with a fresh pair of eyes!!
sundae hope you don't feel too rough today

sundaesundae · 02/11/2012 08:19

JoJo, you can definitely do that :) go JO!!

zoeymlucas · 02/11/2012 08:35

Go Jo that can def be done! :)

Some random old man got a taste of my grumpy pants yesterday when he walked up to me in tesco and rubbed and belly and stated loudly 'too many pies love' and laughed my reply of 'No it was def too much sperm that done this' didnt seem to sit well with him and he just looked at me and walked off, while the male collegue I was with had a bit of a rant that people cant just walk up and touch me and thats assault and did I want him to have a word, very cute of him but not needed Grin
Sweet party was good and boy christmas stockings are all done and put away as well as lots for me and hubby including fruit salads and black jacks :)

Is anyone else getting leg cramps (esp at night) as thats 2 nights in a row I have been woken by them in blinking agony and its prob not helped that I have huge calf muscles from years of horse riding, also does anyone know what I can do to get rid as they are not a welcome visitor?

Have a huge fireworks party tonight which I am excited about and was even more so by DS1 telling DS2 about it this morning and making the noises with him - DS2 then stole a lolly from him brothers room said 'haha' and ran off - shouldnt laugh but for 1 he is a crafty little devil! So hot dogd, hot chocolate and candy floss for dinner Grin

Went to doctors and it is infected so got antibiotics and special dressings, wasnt overly impressed as with my history I have to get the guts to got to doctors to a point (consultant is fine as I trust him as its same one since DS1 who in all honesty wouldnt of survived without him) but the nurse said she wanted a doctor to look at it so said she would go get a lady doctor whoch I was ok about and still laid on table with 1 nork out the lady doctor appeared and gave a smile so I put my head back down, when I looked again there was a 20 something young man stood there behind her too - I am assuming he is a student and the poor mite gave a very awkward smile!

Today is going to be a better day well cant be much worse

sundaesundae · 02/11/2012 08:37

Apparently eating a banana helps the cramp, can't hurt!

Hope you have a better day. I dread anyone touching me, only person that has done it has been my BIL.\

OctoberCarrot · 02/11/2012 08:48

pink. Thanks fortip. Must look into buggys again. Was out and about yesterday and observing squashed kids in the back of p&t. Didn't look comfortsble at all. There will be 16/17 months between the boys so definitely need a double. Thanks for tip on other stuff too - we ave a travel cot that I was going to leave downstairs to put baby away safely!

mands. I think the cheapest are probably a little shaky. The baby bjorn is expensive but it was the folding down and brining with us that was great. Mind you everyone used to just DS up anyhow! Will message my name so I can join dfacwbook.

Hope everyone is feeling ok this morning. tHank crunchie it's Friday!

LexiandBeanette · 02/11/2012 09:10

Sheldon those patterns are gorgeous! Glad you are OK after nasty taxi experience.
Zoey not good that it is infected, but good that you've been to the docs :)

Back at work today but feel like a bit of a zombie! Must get off MN and do something I'm being paid for Wink HAve a good day, all!

mandasand · 02/11/2012 09:15

Suburban envious of your playroom - that's precisely what I'd love! Yes, I reckon it's a lot of £ to do that. It's a toss-up between have a small loft extension for guests / a study / child's bedroom or an extension into the garden. If we save like crazy we might be able to afford one in about, erm, five years!

Lanny that doesn't sound a bad price for what you've got. We were quoted about 25K for a paltry within-the-roof roof extension, which I thought ought to have been 10K less based on web and friend research. As a result DH is, to say the least, off-put. I think I need to get more quotes in as an extra space either up or down would be transformative.

Pink that Ikea trip sounds like hard work with a toddler and big furniture! That baby nightwear is adorable!

Dame almost every twin mum I've spoken with has gone for the Out n About Nipper double. Even if they had something else first they say that they ended up with this. It's really, really light (crucial for me) and manoeuvres beautifully (also important as we don't at this point have a car so everything is going to be walking!) I prefer the look and finish (fabric etc) of e.g. the Mountain Buggy Duet but it doesn't compare as well to the Nipper on other factors. Also we want to keep the cost to about £400 as MiL is buying it, and this is what she spent on her other grandchild's buggy and she's indicated a similar budget for us. WOOP on your antique wardrobes - what fun piecing them all together!

Lexi love new name!

Chef well done on purchase! That's a lot of stuff for reasonable ££.

So we have a couple of newbies on FB group, which is lovely. Myjob I'll message you - you won't be able to find it on own. You too Oct.

Sundae hope you feel better as the day progresses.

Zoey not sure I'd like my bump being touched by unknowns, or even knowns without asking first! Glad you've got dressings.

Go, JoJo! Brilliant progress! Belly buttons - I'm still finding it difficult to look at or even touch mine! And I think I'm developing stretch marks (my first pregnancy ones) either side - nice!

Hermione Envy at your TKMaxx purchases and LOL at your 4am demands! Sigh, I love a good TKMaxx haul Smile Think you should defo go for the pram you want and try to make up the cost or something. If the one we wanted/needed was more that is what we would do. It's tricky when people are treating you though isn't it? It may be a treat for them but it has to be the right one otherwise you'll end up buying another before too long. Try to explain the difference between wants and needs. Have you an idea how long it will last? If four years (which is what we'd love our pram to serve us for) then £400 or so is really not a great amount of money per day!

Stealth less leaning over and more lying on cushions! Grin

Sheldon hallway is looking nice now tho I still hate how Dulux Gentle Fawn turned out to be a shade of pink! and living room ceiling is good. In sanding the picture rail, though, DH has we've ruined the paint on the chimney breast feature wall, which was the one lovely colour in the house that we were going to keep! So will have to find out what it is and get something similar. Ah well. Just below-the-picture-rail walls to do in that room and we have another area done. That is, apart from the wood burning stove I really want and the Isamu Noguchi style coffee table which is now an utterly impractical idea! Shel are you feeling okay after your near-miss? What a bloody nightmare! Idiot driver. I'm not surprised you had a pasty-gate moment - prob the shock coming out? Nice knitting patterns tho!

So, today's the day when we have our first cleaner try-out. Initial signs are good - prompt on email and phone. We haven't cleaned apart from the really horrible bits but we've done a major tidy as, with the influx of baby stuff (still piled high in dining room) and the decorating work, everything was everywhere. Yesterday I touched up bits in the hallways and last night DH finished the living room ceiling so we have managed to put the majority of the paint stuff away, put the furniture back where it's supposed to be etc.

There's dust from sanding, which perhaps isn't fair on her, but I'm just going to let her loose, with bathroom top-to-toe and kitchen floor as priorities, and see how far she gets in two hours. I think I'm getting over my angst about having a cleaner. Let's see. If I run around trying to help her or apologizing then I've clearly some work to do on that front!

Otherwise, a journal article to submit, 9 OU assignments to mark and the mid-afternoon arrival of MiL.

Sorry for long post ... can't you tell I'm procrastinating?!!! Smile

StealthToddler · 02/11/2012 09:37

Baby Bjorne bouncers are great - I have 2. And it lies completely flat so stores down the side of a chest of drawers etc when not in use.

I bought a swing chair for ds2 and it has been very hit and miss. Ds2 would settle in it ds3 wouldn't and it takes up SO much space and does not fold down or store well.

Door bouncers are great from when babies are about 5 months old.

Playpen I got only to put baby in in bouncer/swing chair to protect from toddler. Haven't used much and to be honest didn't really need.

After selling my P&T I got a double maclaren which I love but don't use much. It's for trips to Lego land etc.

Best buggies for me were the bugaboo chameleon which I got for ds1 and am looking forward to getting out for the 4th time fingers crossed. It is fab and can have maxi Cosi attached and can face you or away from you. Does not fold well so I had a cheaper maclaren single for travelling. Note of warning with bugaboos - you will get lots of punctures but its just a bike tyre from a bike shop for a couple of £ to replace.

I do think it is worthwhile splashing out on a really good everyday buggy and maybe having a cheaper one for travelling (holidays). With ds1 I was walking 3 hours a day with him.

I hated my P&t as I said before.

For those with short age gaps, I found a soft sling combined with single buggy for the toddler was much the best option particularly for being out and about in London. I had the "close baby carrier" which was just fab and will touch wood use it again. I like the soft sling for a very little baby to be more cuddled up to you, then switch to baby Bjorn sling at about 4 months when they have more head control and want to look outwards.

Also think ahead to the scenario of taking your toddler and bsby out to playground, baby is sound asleep in buggy but you need to be able to run after toddler and pick him up to put on swings etc. for me it was easiest for baby to be asleep in the sling and to be able to run around after toddler and have two hands free to pick him up. I could also get on with cooking etc at home with baby sound asleep on my chest!

Phew long post but thought someone may be interested in my findings after 5 years of attempting to get a small herd of boys around central London!!!

theTramp · 02/11/2012 09:47

Morning all. Thanks for well wishes up thread and it is reassuring to know I'm not the only one who has a few concerns about the 20 week scan. Which by the way, I am off to in about 10 minutes.

Have woken up with nice runny nose and sneezes. Hurrah! I actually mean that, because it means that the general feeling of run down rubbishness of last few days was down to a brewing cold and not just me crumbling. Anyway, nout so attractive as a pregnant lady with ruddy cheeks, glassy eyes and a runny nose :)

Sounds like you all have your pram preferences sorted. I have to say that I went in with a pretty small list of requirements and yet it wittled down my options very quickly. Amazing how out of what felt like hundreds of buggys there were actually only two that fitted the bill and of those two pro's & con's to both but I'm opting for the upbaby vista because all is higher up, so less bending for me.

On teh baby sling and carriers front. I have been sent info of a sling library that is near here, which is a brilliant idea. Apparently every baby responds slightly differently to different types of sling. So whilst Bjorn might work for Mum or Dad, baby might prefer another style etc. Idea is you check them out for two days, then return them and when you work out your preference you can buy it. I think there should be more schemes like this. It'd be great if there was something similar for prams too - but I haven't found anything like that as yet.

Zoey - thank goodness you did go to Dr, infections are nasty particularly in that spot. And pillow under your knees and eat more potassium to help with cramps - of which bananas, postatos and brazil nuts are chock full.

Liking new names and seeing almost everyone (?) now on facebook.

Right, I must away. Apologies for not namechecking everyone, confess I had a read before collapsing like the dead last night and more of a read this morning at about 6am because I woke up so horribly early, before I snoozed again at about 7am (oops). Fingers crossed etc.

dameflamingo · 02/11/2012 09:49

Morning - v. quick check in today to report that wardrobe 1 has made it to the 3rd floor and is almost assembled. MrFlamingo saw the funny side immediately and agreed they were wonderful bits of furniture. He suggests though that my next car should be a van - that way I can literally cut out the middle men. Willpost pics as soon as both are doen later today.

chefette my best friend has the quinny buzz 3 for her DS - its blinking great, turns on a sixpence and I am seriouslly considering getting one too. You got yourself a bargain there.

Just been given a tonne of stuff from various people who I know including a maxi cosi car seat ( from a police officer so trust its in good working order!) a shop new and frankly outrageously expensive cotbed that 'didn't fit with the decor' and a vibrating chair thingie that plays tunes.... for the baby of course Blush am feeling VERY lucky to have such amazing friends, family and colleagues. Seriously touched that people I say hello to at wrok but don't know as friends have called by to offer up lovely things! Oh gosh..may have another cry!

Hope everyone is having a good morning so far - if you're feeling down I can highly recommend heading to waitrose and cheering yourself up with a rhubarb yoghurt ( the one in the glass jar) - makes you feel transported back in time and all famous five !
