Am just writing my birth plan for the midwives.....can I continue to stand in the event of pethidene? Or will I have to lie down?

Catbag · 15/10/2012 13:41

The only time I had pethidine was with my first 13 years ago, but I found I fell asleep/passed out in between contractions. There's no way I could have stood. Incidently, it also stopped my contractions from working properly- I had the pain, but no stretching. When they did restart (5 and half hrs later) I dilated 7 cm in an hour. I don't know if that is a common reaction, but it's worth looking into. I personally wouldn't have it again.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 15/10/2012 13:43

madam I think that's fine. You can also get super smart passport and ticket wallets which you could get personalised if required. I travel a lot(with work) and would actually find one of these really useful.

GTbaby · 15/10/2012 13:53

Another internal today. Fucking hurt. Literally screamed the place down n sobbed. I can't cope at all. And I'm on the ward! Not a labour room on my own. So freaked all the poor ladies out -as well as all of u-.

Can u have an epidural for when they are breaking waters?

Well I'm only 3cm dilated Sad. Having cramps every 5 ish mins. Some r stronger then others. Still don't know if they r contractions tho. How do u know if ur having contractions?

I'm looking forward to getting my rosé tinted glasses!

YellowWellies · 15/10/2012 13:56

Ask for some gas and air next time they give you an internal. Good luck! And don't forget labour isn't linear - the time taken to progress from 3-6cm could be a lot quicker than the time taken to go from 0-3 xxx

NervousAt20 · 15/10/2012 14:08

Aw GT that doesn't sound good, like yw said ask or gas& air next time. Do you have your DH with you for support?

DesperateHousewife21 · 15/10/2012 14:12

gt hope things progress smoothly for you.

Catbag · 15/10/2012 14:13

Aw, GT, I'm sorry that you're finding it all hard going :( YW is right- a toke on the gas and air will do wonders. Try not to panic as I'm sure tensing up in anticipation will make it hurt more. Try and find your happy place, and let your body take over. It knows what to do!

PS I've had my waters broken twice and neither time was it an uncomfortable sensation- I just didn't feel it at all. Did think I'd wee'd myself though! Blush

ShellyBobbs · 15/10/2012 14:30

I've also had mine broken twice and felt absolutely nothing except relief!

ValiumQueen · 15/10/2012 14:35

My waters hurt but I think that was because of the horrible doctors technique, so I would say ask for gas and air. 3cm is good, and it is not just the cm, it is also the thinning, so you are going in the right direction. Ask about the epidural so you know when you could have it, but I would encourage you to try other things first as an epidural can lead to more interventions. If it is necessary though, have one.

kirrinIsland · 15/10/2012 14:43

GT what YW said^^ And I didn't feel anything when I had my waters broken either, just the leakage!

DH glad she's in a good position, and that sounds like a nice weight. Are we allowed to assume that we will be early with this one if we were with our first then?! Cos that would be lovely!

VQ what are his work gaining from refusing to sign the form? Seems very unreasonable :(

Sophiathesnowfairy · 15/10/2012 14:47

gt what most of the others sad about waters, I too had had it twice, just felt very wet! But there was a bit of a major difference in the contractions afterwards Shock

georgee · 15/10/2012 14:50

GT I found gas and air really great for internals. Make the most of it! And remember, you're 3cm more dilated than we are, you're making great progress, I'm so jealous!

When my waters were broken it wasn't uncomfortable, just a MASSIVE gush in my case, it was amazing! Soaked the midwife! Thinking of you. x

ValiumQueen · 15/10/2012 14:53

Not sure what his work is up to. Twats!

He turned up at court, waited two hours, got sent away until 2pm so did not get the lunch, and I am guessing he has been selected as he has not called since. He has been told he has to go every day this week, if selected or not, as they are short this week. They think it will be just this week but may be next week too. I am having a section next thursday of not before. He is so upset as he feels the pressure financially, especially as he does not get paid pat leave.

The kids are at GPs for a couple of hours. I was there too but want to wring my dads neck, he is such a shit sometimes. I guess at 79 he will not change, and is entitled to be a shit too I guess. He has never approved of my husband as he is the complete opposite of him. I chose someone the complete opposite for a reason!

Very grumpy and sore today. In case you had not noticed.

cat have you shagged that pineapple yet?

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 15/10/2012 14:53

Sorry to hear things are going slow for you GT in another 2cm you will be in active labour and prob transferred to labour ward. When I had DD I got to 5 cm on the ward without really knowing if the pains/cramps were contractions but they must have been.

I'm feeling like sh** today. I think I have yet another chest infection passed on from DD. I am coughing and spluttering and feel generally rubbish. Tried to get dr apt this morning but none left so they told me to call back this afternoon in case they had a cancellation. No luck so receptionist has told me surgery opens doors at 7.30 am and I could go down and try get one or phones open at 8am! I can't manage down on crutches etc just to book an appointment so will need to be calling from 8am, which is fine in principal but it's usually engaged for ages and everyone who has managed down for 7.30am takes the majority of appointments!

Catbag · 15/10/2012 15:05

All I have at my disposal is tinned pineapple VQ. I'm not sure it will have the same effect :/

GTbaby · 15/10/2012 15:18

N don't get me started on the beds. In only 5foot8. N I'm too tall for the bed. Can't straighten my legs.

YellowWellies · 15/10/2012 16:01

Oh no GT nightmare beddage!!!! That's so bad they must have lots of folks taller than 5'8'' in!

Will they let you out of bed and up and on your feet as it's the pressure of baby's head on your cervix that is going to make you dilate quickest and gravity will help with that much better if you are upright? (or are they continually monitoring you?)

Good luck. Hope it's going well and that you're taking heart from the other ladies' experiences of having their waters broken - try not to be scared or panicked by it seems to be the general consensus.

I'm so envious of how close you are to meeting your baby (but not envious of your current position as it can't be fun!)

How's the blanket going? xxxx

DH great news on the baby's position!

VQ that sucks donkey c*cks (apologies all for my charming imagery) that is a really poor show by your DH's work. Every penny counts when you're having a wee one and he shouldn't be penalised for 'doing his civic duty'. You have every right to rant and whinge. Shower of feckers.

StuntNun · 15/10/2012 16:17

Catbag tinned pineapple isn't supposed to work although I tried it with DS2 and had him the next day! Probably just a coincidence especially as it was one day after his due date.

GT I sympathise with your situation but you may be making life a bit harder for yourself. Please don't worry about having your waters broken, it doesn't hurt because the amniotic sac isn't connected to your nervous system. The internals are unpleasant but if you're stressed and tense then they will be much worse. Can you ask for time to prepare yourself and relax before they do them? I know some midwives/doctors are a bit keen and just 'dive in unannounced' but sometimes all you need is ten seconds to mentally prepare yourself. I hope things improve for you soon. Hugs.

izzy can they not do a home visit? Did you tell them you are heavily pg and immobile? How about calling NHS24 after hours? At least you would get seen today, and start antibiotics.

ValiumQueen · 15/10/2012 16:24

cat apparently it is the core which is best. In reality it will probably do nothing, but it would help to pass the time.

Poor DH. They kept him waiting again from 2 until 3.45 and then he was sent away. He is not needed tomorrow, so is going to work, and has to report again Wednesday. It seems such a stupid system. I have never done jury service as it would not have been appropriate being a prison officer, and nurses are exempt.

Thank you for your kind words of support. I guess we should be grateful that this is all we have to worry about. It is just pissing annoying!

I am so bloody grumpy. I need a good shag, but do not have the energy.

ValiumQueen · 15/10/2012 16:45

Tiger nappy arrived safely. I cried as I was so pleased Confused

Peaky1 · 15/10/2012 16:51

Oooh is this your Alva Baby nappy VQ?
