Bloody hell DH's flip flops bloody stink. argh. I'm gunna kill him - bluergh.

DesperateHousewife21 · 15/10/2012 08:45

Oooh hopefully we'll be having more thread babies soon then.

I'm sitting in the maternity unit waiting to have my last scan, baby is having a merry dance she must know she's about to be checked on!

YellowWellies · 15/10/2012 08:53

Oh Fatima I can totally empathise. DH's tardiness to quit smoking was the only thing that's made me have a real go at him this pregnancy (snapping about snoring, knicking the duvet etc are just normal).

It took him until I was nearly 3.5 months to quit, he tried from the day I pissed on a stick, but kept lapsing once a week, once a fortnight and having to start his quit again. What did it for him was me writing him a letter explaining exactly why I wanted him to quit, how angry I was that my entire body and life was changing and he couldn't managed to do one thing; how I would feel if anything went wrong (if we'd have had a miscarriage or a stillbirth I would have blamed him, irrational or no) and he was still smoking and how important it is for the wee one to have both parents around for as long as possible.

It worked a treat he hasn't smoked one since. He's been quit since May - was a bit arsy for a fortnight - but is amazing now. He can even have a few beers and not want one. With amazing preggo nose he doesn't stand a chance at having a sneaky one. Mindst he is very honest and even when he was failing to quit he never hid it but came home and apologised that he'd had one at work. I have a real thing about dishonesty and secrecy from a nightmare ex so I'm glad he never tried to hide anything. I would say now he is doing better than me - I can smell it on the street and occasionally go 'mmmmm' Shock. Don't worry am not going to!

So maybe try a letter? If there is anything you are resenting it's so much better to get it out in the open and a letter can do it in a less emotive way / make it less likely to end in a blazing row.

YellowWellies · 15/10/2012 08:54

Good luck DH hope all is well x

kissyfur · 15/10/2012 10:03

Morning all

Got to work this morning to find the girl I spent 2 days doing a handover with last week has decided she now can't take the job! Oh dear - its my last day on Thursday Hmm

MissMummy1 · 15/10/2012 10:16

I have got over my irrational rage hormonal imbalance re inlaws after a good nights sleep. Told DH to take leave the weekend they're here as I can't promise not to throw them out if I have to deal with them on my own. I'm hoping they'll see how chaotic our lives are right now and decide not to bother coming to book into a hotel when junior's born. If it all gets too much, my parents are both within a half hour drive and I'll bugger off there.

Disappointed there's no baby news this morning! Hope all those with twinges get some reassurance either way soon!

Fatima my dh is a grumpy sod when I keep him awake too, but instead of going anywhere else he just moans. Men!

All the best for today dh21! I'm secretly hoping I need a presentation scan at 37weeks - 20 weeks was a loooooong way away!!

Got our first NHS antenatal class today. Dh hasn't booked the afternoon off for it but reckons he can just 'wing it' and be ashore for the afternoon. I'm normally v independant and prefer to go to things alone but as I feel he's going to get a lot more out of it than me, I'm not going without him!!

My flu jab has swollen up. Wc fine, but flu arm is red and puffy. About the size of a 50p. And sore. Anyone else have this? I'll keep an eye on it I think and phone if it gets any bigger.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 15/10/2012 10:24

Morning, all quiet here too. Just taken the car in to have it's wayward alarm sorted, just to join the rest of you having work done on your car. I purchased a small Hmm bag of crunchier rocks as my snack while I waited but they brought me home. I ate them anyway!

Baby not going anywhere at the mo I feel. However my boobs have starting tingling again and my fanjo is sore.

Had a conversation with the 11lb mum, she said the hypnobirthing stuff worked a tat with the tens. So I am going to start listening to my cd today. I bet the garage ring me back half way through.........

Sophiathesnowfairy · 15/10/2012 10:25

It worked a great not a tat?!?

horseylady · 15/10/2012 10:25

Mm get it checked but it's a fairly common reaction to the flu jab. If it gets bigger it doesn't settle honestly please see someone!!

Peaky1 · 15/10/2012 10:31

YW I quit smoking in March 2011 after a good 16 years of puffing like a chimney. You know, when you seem to have to wait for those motivational moments that are few and far between? I wasn't trying for a baby then but I remember feeling a bit scared that if I did start trying I would probably not trust myself to stop properly etc etc.

Aaaanyway. I just wanted to share how I quit, just incase there are lapses for your DH or anyone else who might be interested. I used champix tablets from the docs (made me feel sick every morning so everyone thought I was pregnant anyway). I also read a book by Allen Carr called The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I was really skeptical at first having read and tried-failed other methods in the past. Anyway, it totally changed my thinking and attitude towards smoking, which I feel was the most important factor in making me quit for good. You can read it as a smoker or as someone who has quit, it doesn't really matter. I think those pills alone wouldn't have done the trick for me as I can be my own worst enemy sometimes.

DesperateHousewife21 · 15/10/2012 10:51

All good at the scan, she's measuring spot on estimated weight is 6lb 1! That seems huge at 35 weeks considering ds was 7lb 2 at 38+5 when born.

Consultant wants to see me in 4 weeks (if I get that far) to discuss possible induction. Assess how things are with me, they might be happy to let me go over if everything is ok although he looked when ds was born and laughed and said I might go into natural labour early anyway!

NervousAt20 · 15/10/2012 10:52

Wow I don't check in for 24hr and have 10 pages to catch up on

Sorry to hear some of you are uncomfortable. It's lovely to hear from mummies who have had their babies already, hope things keep going well for you all and I'm sure they'll be more joining you on the post natal thread soon

Glad everything was okay for you tits these LO no how to frighten the lives out of us don't they

catbag hope everything moves forward for you and you have your LOs soon

yellow skypeing sounds like a good compromise with your in laws straight after the birth rather then a visit

I've been putting the heating on for the last 2 weeks or so here, I can't be cold

Hope all is well with your scan DH

I really thought by the time I got to the end of the thread we could have had 3 more babies arrive! Good luck GT hope everything is going well, fair play to you knitting in labour Grin and good luck to tits and catbag too

Early hours Sunday morning I got up for the loo and had water leaking down both sides of my legs, when I put a pad on I didn't have anymore leaking for hospital were happy for me to stay at home. Me and DP were both like oh shit, what do we do? hell. And started washing baby stuff throughout the night Grin the hosp were more worried that at my last appointment baby was breech so said if I leaked anymore I would need to go straight in. Have an appointment tomorrow so fingers crossed we'll get more info then

NervousAt20 · 15/10/2012 10:52

Wow that was a long post Blush

Iheartpasties · 15/10/2012 10:57

nervous lovely to hear from you, I saw your other thread and was hoping for an update. It'll be good for you to get checked over tomorrow.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 15/10/2012 11:08

mm I had big red welts for both jabs that became sore then itchy. If you think it's excessive is safer to pop into the surgery and ask them to take a look.
Xx

ShellyBobbs · 15/10/2012 11:25

Ooohh, surprised there are no more babies.

Good luck GT, looks like it is you who is next.

YellowWellies · 15/10/2012 11:28

Peaky yep Alan Carr is a godsend! I think DH still carries the mini book in his work bag just in case he needs some motivation but confided recently that he hasn't had to look at it in months. Am very proud of him. I know it has been much easier for me to quit as the pregnancy is so much less abstract a concept when you're the one updiffed and it was always one thing I was sure about - not smoking when preggers! As you say the important thing is changing your inner dialogue and how you think about smoking. Not easy to do as it's an addiction but I think we're nearly there. He's really surprised me and himself and I love him even more for doing this as I know he's got a massive issue that he felt smoking was the only thing controlling his temper. Which it turns out isn't true - he's back to his lovely kind nature now without them.

I've tried champix (no effect), zyban (made me go totally nuts; awful stuff) and hypnotherapy (made me feel like someone had had a good old rummage in my noggin, urrgh didn't like) Alan Carr was the only thing that worked (for about six months until you have that 'just one' and the rest is history). Getting preggo worked even better!

Good luck for your appt Nervous.

Great news on your appt DH what position is she in? We've got our 36 week scan appt this Friday (will actually be 35+4) so I'll let you know how much this one weighs. 6.1lb sounds like a good healthy (but not too scary) weight. Likely to end up as a 7.5lb-8lber? As a rough entirely unscientific guess by me?

MM hope your arm feels better. It sounds nasty but not dissimilar to what I had with the WC - good luck for the classes!

Cacacaz · 15/10/2012 12:07

Ladies I've just had a nosey on the post natal thread Grin I suggest you have a nosey!!

MM my dh arm was swollen, red an hot following his flu vaccine. It took 3 days to calm down.

I was awake for around 3 hours last night with what I think we're contractions, a few took my breath away, but nothing since 3am. I'm 37+1 so if baby would like to come anytime soon he/she is very welcome.

I'm posting from my phone and was sure I had more to say, but can't remember what it was Blush my memory is beyond shocking.

ValiumQueen · 15/10/2012 12:09

DH gave up smoking between first and second child. First one has had sleep apnoea which I blame him for, although more likely to be to do with inheriting my massive tonsils. Anyway, he stopped with champix but took it for much longer than usual under supervision by nurse specialist. First time it did not work. He also rates the Alan Carr book.

Bastards at DHs work would not sign the form for court to say they will not pay him. I might just go in and tell them what I think. He was very upset understandably. I say if they will not sign it then they need to pay him!

No twinges overnight. Slept well actually.

Catbag · 15/10/2012 12:29

cacacaz Could you link to the pn thread? I can't find it :(

NervousAt20 · 15/10/2012 12:46

catbag the link is at the top of each page on this thread Smile

valium how can they refuse to pay him but won't sign the form stating that?

DesperateHousewife21 · 15/10/2012 12:52

yellow according to mw she's 3/5ths engaged, front to back so v good position!
Really hoping I go early now after ds being early and the cons saying he thinks this one will be, I'll feel overdue by 40weeks!

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 15/10/2012 12:54

First day of maternity leave for me today. DH took DD to nursery and I stayed in bed til 10am! First time in yonks I have had such a serious lie in, I feel like a new person.

Have made a list of all the things I want to get done before junior arrives, and made a decent start. Managed to stay away from daytime tv but may have to watch last night's homeland. Am actually fighting the temptation to have a nap three hours after I got up but as DH is on a split shift and home at 3pm, I should like not to be in an identical position to the one I was in when he left this morning!

May go over and have a nosy on the PN thread then, Cacacaz.

Oh, and perhaps you all can help me with a non-pregnancy related dilemma? My boss has a big birthday coming up. We have an excellent relationship and I know his wife and children well. I turned 30 this year, and he and his wife bought me a spa voucher which I am saving for February time when I need to escape for a day. It was quite a lot of money, and they also gave me a bag of goodies for me and the baby quite separate from my official present from work.

I'd like to get something for him for his birthday, striking a careful balance between not brown-nosing but something thoughtful and appropriate, given both the personal and professional relationship, and the disparity in income etc.

We have a nickname for him at work, and he travels a lot which is tied into his nickname. Am thinking something travel related but personalised with the nickname, and have so far found luggage tags, suit carriers and toiletry bags which could all be personalised. However, need a second opinion. Thanks.
