Evil I've got some dummies hidden away in a drawer just in case Junior needs them. It's one of those things I think that you think you won't use, but when you're pulling your hair out in the middle of the night - it's worth a try. None of our four nieces and nephews were big fans of them - but I'd give them a shot if needed. As horsey says better than sucking thumbs as they're easier to wean off accidentally lose

Evil my sis said to mention about a low dose of calpol to the health visitor (it's not recommended for such a young baby) but sometimes giving a tiny dose to a baby that's had ventouse or forceps can really help with their latch if it's a head ache that's bothering him.

Well done on having your first day out!!!!

kirrinIsland · 13/10/2012 16:00

Lovely to hear from you little congratulations once again, and here's wishing you a straightforward pregnancy

congrats on the house comrade :)

evil glad you're getting on well, and I agree with georgee on the whatever gets through philosophy. DD has a dummy and it was a life saver in the early days - saved my sanity as before I gave it to her I was the dummy. Will try not to with this one, but if she needs to she needs to. And it is probably easier to get rid of a dummy than a thumb, although I am still getting up at least once a night to put it back in for her and she 20 months! Guess there is no right answer - just whatever works for you.

VQ Benedict is lovely, and Billie and Ben is fine too - it's only us oldies that will think of flowerpot men Grin

Titsalinabumsquash · 13/10/2012 16:13

Evil sounds like you're doing a fab job with Nicky! Smile I also have dummies of both shape tucked away and will happily use them if needed, I never needed one with DS1 and although I tried giving one to DS2 he wouldn't take it at all, so don't sweat it, whatever makes life easier for you all.

I have a whole carrier bag of junk food that I'm munching, I finally slept all night with 1 tramadol, I do feel guilty taking it knowing baby will get some but the pain got the best of me and bring reduced to sobbing continually was not nice for anyone.
It won't be something regularly done though I just needed to sleep and the relief. It has left me feeling a bit weak and woozy today though but baby is very active and seems quite happy in there. Smile

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/10/2012 16:22

I'm having Chinese for dinner tonight round my mums, sooooo can't wait Grin

Wow evil a week already, that's gone quick!

YellowWellies · 13/10/2012 16:23

Woo tits dummies of 'both shapes' - I didn't know there was more than one shape!? Blush What's the difference? I've just got some bog standard ones from Boots

tits it sounds like you are taking the right approach. Don't feel guilty - you're taking this on docs orders and don't forget when you are unmedicated your stress hormones will also be discernible to baby so it's not a black and white case of good vs bad. A good nights sleep sounds like it has done you both good.xxxx

YellowWellies · 13/10/2012 16:25

DH Chinese on the island is minging. I am officially very Envy. Enjoy! It's our fish and chip night, we've got a DVD and I might even have a cheeky glass of wine I reckon.

Also.... I've not got out of my jammies all day Blush

Titsalinabumsquash · 13/10/2012 16:29

By both shapes I mean the cherry soothers and the flat teat ones. Only because my nieces and nephews all had dummies and some would only take one variety and some the other.

Thanks, I'm using my sensible head about it, the dr wouldn't have prescribed it if it was going to harm little one and my other children don't need to see their mom weeping in pain so we're all much happier today, DP is happier too because he's not seen me sleep so peacefully in months. Smile it's amazing what a decent rest can do.

YellowWellies · 13/10/2012 16:35

I'll have to go and see which ones I've got - ta for the tip tits.

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/10/2012 17:08

yw ill have some on your behalf then! Enjoy your fish and chips :)

TheDetective · 13/10/2012 18:01

I am making DP his own birth plan of things he must do when I am in early labour.

None of this hand holding back rubbing crap, he has to hoover the living room, wash the dishes and check we have cake/tea bags/milk Grin Oh, and he has to make sure he has had a shower, and I've remembered to shave my legs and pits!! I do have to come up with a safe word for him to use though, as per my hypnobirthing. It's just that every word seems to conjure up the wrong kind of images. Or if I find a good word, I get the giggles when DP says it coz it sounds kinda funny in his accent!

I am absolutely convinced this will be a night time labour, but I don't know why? When ever I think about things, I think about being in the dark with candles on, DS asleep upstairs. I have a feeling I will have a baby in the small hours! Probably completely wrong!!!!

2 down....2 to go! 37 weeks today :)

YellowWellies · 13/10/2012 18:12

I'm convinced mine will start at nighttime too - I suppose statistically most do - but DH is convinced it'll start whilst he's at work. The upside of me potentially being in hospital for six days means I'll have lots of time to issue orders for cleaning the house after ready for our return, he can live like a slattern whilst I'm not there Grin

TheDetective · 13/10/2012 18:26

Do you know I realised I have no way of contacting DP at work!!

I have never rang him at work, and I know they don't accept personal calls! In fact, I'm not sure how I would get through?!

I probably should have thought of this before today!!!!!

Duuuuuh! Last time it started when ex DP was in work, and I rang up, and he shit a brick haha!!

I have decided that needing a clean home is a definite downside to a home birth!! Not that you need it to be clean, but when you have a bit of OCD about people coming in to your house when it is anything less than spotless, it's kinda a pain!

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/10/2012 18:35

Crispy duck pancakes, chicken in black bean sauce, chicken chow mein, chicken satay mmmmm ill be the size of a hippo in about 45mins!

Titsalinabumsquash · 13/10/2012 18:36

If mine starts when DP is at work I'm likely to be going it alone. Sad

We have the dilemma of it likely to be quick if the last one is anything to go by. If I call him at work and get through, it will take him 2 hrs minimum to get here, but I know if I phone him he will drive like a lunatic to get here, however much he promises not too I know he will out of excitement/panic.
So if things suddenly happen quickly do I call him knowing he is risking himself/others by driving like a madman and risking his licence.
Or do I not call him and instead call my sisters or MIL and have him miss the birth of his first child?
He isn't even sure which he'd prefer and I'm not either. Obviously I want him there but I know I'll worry if he's driving at stupid speeds to reach me.

He's all cuddly when I'm in pain, I really don't like it, I'm trying to drum into him that I know he wants to take the pain away and protect me but really him bring in the room is enough. I get panicky and claustrophobic when people touch me if I'm in a lot of pain.

TheDetective · 13/10/2012 18:41

Me too Tits. I don't want to be touched, or talked to really. I'm a bit noisy when I'm in pain, but that is my coping mechanism. I hate it when anyone starts asking me if I'm ok, can I do anything to help etc.

Mardy cow!

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 18:45

Well, I thought things had settled, but took DD1 to a party in the next town and went shopping. Just wandering around at my leisure, but had the oddest pains and thought the world was gonna fall out of my fanjo. Eased up now I am home. Am tempted to do the whole shagging the pineapple thing just to get it started as the stop and start feeling is driving me potty. Grr!

SwissArmyWife · 13/10/2012 18:48

Well, think mine may have already started, as i'm pretty certain i've been having contractions since about 2 this afternoon (while walking around shopping - typical - although I did get some boots from debenhams that were reduced from £75 to £22)
Anyway they've not really been predictable so i'm not too worried, I didn't have any from about 4 to 6ish, and they're very short, i'm hoping it's just the baby pushing his head down really hard but it feels the same as it did when my labour started with DD so who knows!!
Will see how things go tonight/tomorrow! DP has been rushing around packing things - and thankfully suggested getting the carseat out of the wardrobe as that hadn't even crossed my mind, whoops! I have shoved a big bar of chocolate in to my hospital bag in preparation. Grin

horseylady · 13/10/2012 18:48

Vq when I was riding I had the sane feeling!! Very very odd. Stopped now.

SwissArmyWife · 13/10/2012 18:49

VQ sorry for xpost! Having the same feelings here -gulp-

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/10/2012 18:49

Pleased things seem to be settling down for you evil and you have managed to get out.

I have managed three children without dummies. Never missed them, never had to wean them off them so woudn't know. Don't actually have major opinion either way but I know I would be a bit irritated if I kept having to get up in the night to reunite child with said dummy. A friend of mine recommends This thing, I think called slumber bear, which has the dummy in one hand so it is easy to find from JoJo to help minimise this.

Had a bit of a shock today, me and girls were walking down the platform of the station and someone came up behind us and leant over DD2 grabbing her then falling on the floorShock. My first thought was someone was trying to steal her, then I worried they were having a full on collapse and tbh I was more worried about the impact on DD2 than the woman. Anyway the silly woman was looking up at the signs and not watching who she was falling over. DD2 was ok about the whole thing but I was really shaken up. Then I started worrying if the shock could have an effect on the baby but it booted me all the way home so think it's ok.

Girls night in, Strictly Come Dancing, hot chocolate and cookies. In pjs Grin

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 18:52

swiss Nothing like a contraction or two to help with the packing and preparation! Good you got your boots!

horsey I can only imagine what it would feel like to be on a horse! You do amaze me!

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 18:57

sophia not nice, especially on a platform! I hope you gave her a piece of your mind! I hate it how some people just do not see kids. I had a couple of folk almost fall over the pushchair today.

Has anyone had problems with zebra crossings? I seem to be invisible, even though I am huge. Even when I am right by the crossing and clearly planning to cross, cars just blast by, even with a pushchair. I guess they think (correctly) that I am slow at moving.

SwissArmyWife · 13/10/2012 19:04

Definitely VQ , he's been in a panic all day, at this rate i'll be the one telling him to bloody breathe!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/10/2012 19:19

vq Do they sell maternity high vis? I bet horseyhas some.

YellowWellies · 13/10/2012 19:36

Swiss gosh good luck - you too VQ.

Actually swiss speaking about popping some chocolate into her hospital bag reminds me - we're allowed to eat whilst in labour (I know some hospitals frown on it), and ok I know I might not fancy anything but can anyone recommend good snacks for your hospital bag to keep both my and DH's energy levels up?
