Thought I would start the thread.

HC Sorry that our MIL is like that. I guess theres not much you can do apart from telling DH to stick up fo you. My Mil is ok but has her odd ways. She was against me bfing and was determined with DD that she would be dressed in pink frilly dresses. Soon put a stop to all that and I just used to ignore her comments.

The kicks argetting a lot stronger now. They are still fairly low down and sometimes in my bladder.

Im glad im not the only one breaking wind like a trooper. Im almost afraid to bend over in work Blush

Im hoping to go back to work 3 1/2 possibly 4 days a week. Im going to put DD in nursery 2/3 mornings but mil will have both the rest of the time. Id love to do less but when I work out how much id lose its shocking and weve just extended our morgage for the extension. The other option ive got is to work in the call centre and do shifts but I dont fancy the weekend shifts. Im too frightened to tell my mnagaer yet.

Guide To Pregnancy Book = "You should put on about 3-4 pounds in 1st 3 months then 3-4 pounds a month during the rest of the pregnancy..."

So at 6 months (which we all pretty much are now) that's 16 pounds in total....I'm about there.....sort of.....

Wallace · 29/03/2006 19:32

That sounds more like it. I have probably put on about 10lbs...not really sure - been avoiding scales.

Do you regard it as 20 weeks = 5 months and 24 weeks = 6 months, etc
or are you pernickity like me and actually work it out Blush so 21w4days = 5 months and 26 weeks = 6 months

maewest · 29/03/2006 20:03

Without wishing to annoy any one, I got on the scales this morning and was about 11 and a half stone (normally hover just over 11 stone). Maybe the bump is devouring my backside Grin. DH is away again - went very early yesterday and won't be back till tomorrow evening. I'm out tomorrow with my book group so we prob won't have a meaningful conversation until Friday (and yesterday morning was mostly me grumphing and rolling over in bed when he kissed me goodbye!)

I should get on and do some housework but can't seem to work up the motivation, much more fun mooching about MN.

jom · 29/03/2006 20:59

Funny you're all talking about weight today as I finally took the plunge and jumped on the scales today after a couple of months of avoiding them. Its been a while since I was weighed as they haven't weighed me at my last two appointments. I've put on 8kg in total (sorry not sure what that is in pounds) which is exactly half of what I put on in my previous preg but think you must put on more later in the preg as the baby gets bigger. Not surprised as last preg I worked up to one month before my due date and was a regular exerciser and now I'm SAHM with too many biscuits in the cupboard and less motivation with the exercise! Have a midwife appointment tomorrow so I'll see what her scales say!

Kayzed - Glad you had a great trip back. You look great in the photo, had to look hard to see your bump! How was you flight with your DS? We did it three times last year with our DS when we moved over and its hard! Mind you by the third time we'd become pretty good at it!

breathless definately - even walking gets me panting and i'm now walking at a snails pace (keep having to tell dh to slow down)
bf'ing deffo, particularly if it makes me loose weight like that kayzed

Annie29 · 30/03/2006 10:44

Oh Lordy I think I'm a freak. Still only seven loo rolls this morning (with and without clothes one...) and last mw appt I was 9st which is about half a stone up on pre-pg. I lost a load in the first trimester as well though, with the mornin sickness... I feel HUGE though...

DS's first birthday is coming up. What do people do for a party? Since he can't eat chocolate, crisps, ice cream and rice krispie buns yet. I can though!

Oh and another controversial question, what about the MMR jab? Have all you experienced mums out there had it for their one-year-olds?

Annie (25 weeks today!)

HumphreysCorner · 30/03/2006 11:09

Morning ladies

Annie29-my DD's birthday is in July so had a Bar-B-Q for just close family-don't know when you have to start inviting little friends round. I would just do a buffet comprising rice salad, new potatoes, salad, egg/meat buns and crisps/dips and carrot/celery sticks etc. And a lovely B'Day cake of course. As for MMR jab I was always keen to have it but had to overcome interference from MIL/FIL. They wanted to pay for single vaccines which in my opinion after lots of reading up on the subject are not as effective as the triple. Of course the decision lies with yourself but will be having the MMR again.

Envy at your 7 sheets. It really does prove I was a heiffer before getting PG-lol! Can't wait to diet in July (cough, splutter).

Just ironed and descaled the kettle so going to have an early lunch before I collect DD from nursery. Starving as usual and got to eat to ease the heartburn.

Hope you are all OK.

Byee for now.

Hello girls!

I was really excited to get to 24 weeks yesterday (not that I want lo to come out just yet, of course, but hugely relieved that I'd got to 'viable'), then just read this on MN news : Baby bed blockers Premature babies who require months of expensive intensive care in neonatal units have been called "bed blockers" by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, which says the huge efforts to save infants born under 25 weeks are hampering the treatment of other babies with a better chance of survival and a healthy life. As the financial constraints on the NHS continue to grow, the RCOG says very premature babies are ‘blocking’ much-needed intensive care cots, and forcing expectant mothers with potentially healthier babies to be transported to other hospitals. The statement reflects a growing view among child specialists that babies born under 25 weeks should be denied intensive care and allowed to die. (Sunday Times 26.03.06)

Harrumph! Here's to healthy babies for all of us though - are you listening, bumps? No appearances short of 38 weeks please...!

Apropos of absolutely nothing, I have just remembered something I wish I had done before I had my DS1 and wanted to pass on to you first timers - take a photograph of your boobs! They will never be the same again..............

So far ive gained just under a stone, I was 9-2 to start and now im 9-12 and ive increased by half a sheet.
Someone in work yesterday commented that they think im having a boy as I seem to have spread around the back this time. I took this to be a polite way of saying ' your arse is getting big'
im much bigger on this pregnancy and my waist size is only 2 Cms smaller than full term with DD!!!
The only thing I can think to say to all the 1st timers are keep a pregnancy diary because its nice next preg to read back and compare and get your hair done a week before the baby is due.

My boobs went horrible after bf DD. I went down to 1/2 stone less than pre preg weight and DH said they looked like 2 spaniel ears

OP posts:
jom · 30/03/2006 21:59

Iamblossom - lol re your boob comment. I wish I'd taken a pre bf photo as they've never been the same since! Great now though Smile

Kayzed - I wasn't aware the MMR vaccine was different in Aust that explains why there's not the same controversy attached to giviing it. DS had it and is fine! Oue first trip over was also at 15 months with DS and it was hell as we flew straight through without a stopover. (Had no choice as we had to get here ASAP - family illness) Its gotten easier each time as he's been older and as you said easier to occupy. I'd love to go home this Xmas to show off lo but will have to see re finances!

Re kbabys good suggestion of having hair done before due date - is anyone still colouring their hair or are your greys beginning to take over like me?

jersey · 31/03/2006 09:03

Hi girls

Re the boobs mine are bigger than before and def. very saggy since DS was born and I only bf for first month as DS got bored and decided the bottle was a lot less work.

Is anyone else seeming to get every bug going at the moment or is it just me? I'm full of cold again at the moment. No sogn of the improved imunity yet that everyone keeps telling me about.

Also is anyone going down the wraps path instead of disposable nappies? We tried these with DS but didn't get on with them and have a load of wraps different patterns which we didn't use! If anyone is interested you can have them for the cost of postage.

deblaca · 31/03/2006 09:52

morning jersey
i'm definately hoping to use cloth and wrap, so am v interested in yours (as a first timer am blissfully naive of the whole nappy saga and working on the basis that i'm going to be this wonderful earth mother - well one can still dream!!)

Straightforward · 31/03/2006 10:33

Ooo - just clicked on 'add message' full of things I was going to say to people and now can't remember a bloomin' thing! Preghead...

OK - here goes (I'll scroll up)

Re boobs - friends that have bf and friends that haven't all seem to have the same issue, so it seems it's more a pregnancy thing than bfing one (don't put poor HC off further guys!) Actually, my boobs have always been a source of irritation for me, mostly because of their ginormousness (but in a frumpy, rather than sexy way), but last pg they went up from a DD to an F/G, and once I'd stopped bfing and lost some weight, they were a perky C cup. I rather enjoyed them, then got pg again - now I'm bursting out of my E cup again Sad but have high hopes for post-definitely-my-last-baby boobs! Grin

Jom - I'm dying my hair. I didn't last time and felt like super frump with my faded locks, but at the time I was using mega chemical stuff. I'm now using Herbatint from the Health food shop which seems to have fewer nasties in it - not quite as good, but a good compromise for pregnancy. I'd recommend it.

Jersey - I'm interested in the wraps too (perhaps we could share them, deblaca?!?!) My DH is big on environmental stuff and reckons that the ultimate best way forward is using cloth nappies and a laundry service (bigger machines wash more nappies = economy of scale, energy wise), but you have to buy and wash the wraps yourself. Expensive though - might end up washing them ourselves.

Kayzed - is this thiomersil used in the UK MMR vaccines then? Sorry if I'm being thick Blush My DD had the jab after much worrying on our part, but is fine, but I know I'll go through the whole issue again in 18 months or so with this one!

Annie29 · 31/03/2006 10:45

Morning everyone,

Thanks for the advice about the MMR, Kayzed, and HC. I think I will have it for DS, the benefits far outweigh the risks, IMO. The media really blow it all out of proportion don't they, and just put the skits up us. I've read some of the threads on it as well, but I'm sticking to my guns on it. MIL reckons her little neighbour had his a few weeks ago and is still suffering with fever and not eating, and apparently this can last up to six weeks? I must wait til DS has got over his sniffley nose and phelgmy cough that he has at the moment anyway.

As for boobs well mine were always very little, but they're quite bouncy now! After I stopped bfing DS though, they went right down, if they had been big to start with they probably would have looked like spaniel's ears, kabay, but cos they're so diddy, they were just not there...Boo. So I'm enjoying them for now!! It won't last long.

Have a good day everyone.

Annie

Straightforward · 31/03/2006 10:49

Annie - I too was worried about the post-jab illness thing, but in fact, DD was in a really crabby mood on the day of the jab and when the needle went in she stopped crying(!) and was right as rain and in a fab mood for 3 days afterwards!! No high temperature or anything.

Also worth bearing in mind that a few weeks of under-the-weather is better than life-threatening illness potential. My friend's DS just got a mystery rash and the Dr said it was very mild measles - he'd had the jab, and the Dr said if he hadn't, he could be in hospital by now or worse.... Puts it all in perspective, doesn't it?!

HumphreysCorner · 31/03/2006 11:07

Morning ladies

Not looking forward to having a pair of udders again after having this one. I can see why ladies have implants! This BF lark doesn't sound all that good. Are you sure I should be giving it a go?????????

Have had a nose bleed this morning-not had one before so a bit scary. Got out the shower and when I had wiped my face it was all over the towel. Blew my nose and these big clots came out????? Seems to have stopped now but if I touch my left nostril it is a bit tender. I will monitor it to see if it happens again before I panic any more.

Disposable nappies again for me. My friend uses the wraps and this company collects the bin and drops another bin off full of clean ones-don't know how much this costs. She still uses disposables every now and again cos they cause her DS nappy rash sometimes.

Can't believe I am 6 months (27 weeks) tomorrow. Having next lot of blood tests on Thursday. Hope I don't feel this dizzy when I go or I might end up on the floor.

Think that is all for now, oh, apart from I appear to be a danger on the road. Keep nearly running into the back of cars as my reactions seem to be slow. Is this part of PG squishy brain. Forgot where I parked the car on Monday night. I'm sure I wasn't this bad last time-is it my age? Heaven help the world if I ever give in and have another. Told DH this is the last one so he said not to worry as he has had the snip so after this one we can carry on safely Wink. I said we had better stock up on condoms or I could be sterilised. Not necessary he said. Who is he trying to fool. I know he would never have the snip even if someone paid him a million pounds to do it-lol!

Take care

xxx

jersey · 31/03/2006 11:13

I will try and get DH to dig the wraps out of the loft for you as I am bands from lifting and I think there are a lot of boxes in the way Grin.

If I can remember which ones they are I will put a link to a web site so you can see what they look like. They are the ones you put a terries nappy (or half one) inside and a nappy liner. You then put the liner and 'contents' down the loo and stick the rest in the washing machine. Very good idea but DS was getting soaked within half an hour so we gave up. My cousin used them with her girls without any problems.

jersey · 31/03/2006 11:15

HC I had nose bleeds last time and this, so did my mum in preg. I'm told its normal, a natural pressure release, so don't worry about it.

jersey · 31/03/2006 11:25

Right me again. If you copy and paste this address into your browser, the ones I have are the second lot down in 2 parts. They are a mix of white, blue and pictures as the first. The stuffables only come in bigger sizes and are not suitable from birth.

deblaca · 31/03/2006 11:29

no jersey thankfully i seem to be relatively healthy (said touching wood), although my nose does get blocked up even more than usual and my breathing is slightly more laboured
HC i got a nose bleed from nowhere the other day and in fact read about it last night "can be common in pregnancy because of hormonal changes" (as can block noses) if it was a one off and not too heavy i wouldn't worry too much
blossom do you think taking a photo of our booms "before" may just be a bit depressing to look at "after" Wink
kayzed must admit i did say ouch when i read about your missing 1/3 of a nipple (out of interest how long did you bf for??)
sure SF i'm up for sharing if thats cool with jersey
the minefield of mmr etc just scares me - knowing what i'm like i'll have to saturate myself with info and get all into a tis but hey lets worry about that when it happens
26 weeks tomorrow - yippee - (does that mean i'm officially 6 mts and into my 3rd trimester?) - i've put on just over a stone (16lbs) and am now 8 1/4 loo squares

deblaca · 31/03/2006 11:42

that should read - 'blocked' not 'block' - 'boobs' not 'booms' - should really read my posts before sending, my grammar is rubbish Blush
thanks for the link jersey - i make them out to be the shaped nappies (mortherease nappies with water-proof wraps) - they are the type i was looking at getting (and maybe tot-bots) - as we're having a boy any of the colours would suit - do you want me email add?
