Im in agony today. MIL has just taken DD away for the day for me so I can do nothing. The house is a tip but I can't do anything cos of pain so I'm upstairs on bed and thinking of taking a nap!

NervousAt20 · 04/10/2012 11:47

I joined the 4am club last night too Sad and 1am and 6am then refused to get up at 8 and slept till half 10

Thank you for advice on breast feeding especially stunt I do still want to try, that programme was just so negative it made me worried that being a first time mum is going to be hard and stressful enough do I need or want the added pressure of not being able to BF and then deal with "failure" feelings of not being able too, if that makes sense Confused

Hopefully my changing bag might arrive today I am very excited

WaitingForMe · 04/10/2012 12:00

To everyone being told their surgeries haven't received the vaccine yet, kick up a fuss!

I asked for the right number at my Primary Care Trust to complain to and miraculously some vaccine was available or at least they knew where to get some to give to me in a few days time. I love the NHS really I do but sometimes you need to fight for what you want.

I'm 34 weeks today and at my business breakfast the men have started asking how long I plan to keep attending for. I just smile and say I'm hoping they get to share in the joy of me going into labour Grin

horseylady · 04/10/2012 12:15

36 weeks today, classed as full term next week (omg??!!)

Right bought a matress protector but seem unable to find a waterproof sheet for a king sized bed??!!

Off work today, this morning I clipped out my horse so she looks a bit less donkey like!! I then shopped for bedding and bought nothing as I think it's over priced!! Am going to try dunn elm mill. Plus my cousin has text to say she has some stuff to give me!!

Now home, I can't remember what time the cleaner comes?! But will eat shortly then wait for her to arrive and go out. Plus I need to speak to her about the baby arrival etc.

Think I said yesterday I have wc and flu Monday. I also don't see my mw for three weeks now!!!! I could have the baby by then!!!

I don't like being pregnant. Well it's ok, I just hate the attention etc. Am pleased that 2nd time round no one cares!!! Plus I don't like the bump....

ValiumQueen · 04/10/2012 12:21

Trying to sort the nursery today. Doing it in fits and spurts as my hip is playing up in sympathy for izzy

Shuffled around Sainsburys this morning, which was painful but enjoyable.

Lasagne for lunch thanks to detective

misslaughalot · 04/10/2012 12:30

I'm getting in early this time because this particular thread is moving really fast.

New thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1579909-November-2012-arrivals-are-now-underway

And I've started a thread in the post-natal topic for the graduates: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/postnatal_clubs/1579907-November-2012-babies-are-here-at-last

Hope none of you pregnant ladies just missed out on a FANTASTIC bargainous bundle of maternity/nursing clothes that I just won! Got into a bidding war with someone else don't tell dh but I really am in desperate need of some clothes that will actually fit me and do for a while afterwards.

Thank you also misslaughalot - been looking for a kingsize one for ages!

Hope all those with aches and pains feel better soon. I have days where I love being pregnant and nights where I don't...

YellowWellies · 04/10/2012 12:48

Lovely appointment with MW this morning, had a trainee GP in too - who administered my whooping cough jag totally painlessly. Next appt is in two weeks to chat with the consultant to finalise whether I want to birth up here or south in Aberdeen. I think we really want to have the bub up here because of the staff to Mums ratio (2 midwifes per Mum!!!), the natural low intervention approach, the really hands on help you get before you go home in terms of helping with BFing and engorgment, and the fact that it's not a baby factory. Am mentally blocking out the downsides: no epidurals, can't do emergency sections other than under GA, risk of a trip on the air ambulance in a force 10 gale....

Oh and junior is engaged already at 33+3 - that isn't a sign of imminent travel plans is it? Hmm

YellowWellies · 04/10/2012 13:02

Ta for the link to the mattress protector - have ordered one. Sadly can only click and collect at the local store up here (Tesco offered to charge me £20 delivery as we're non mainland but for a £4 item I refuse!!) so I'll be getting 'oh she wets the bed' looks from the Tesco staff when I go in to collect in a week or sos time... Blush

StuntNun · 04/10/2012 13:27

YW my first engaged really early as well (which meant I could eat again) but didn't arrive until 40+1. £24 for a mattress cover does seem a bit steep! We have the same problem with delivery charges here in Northern Ireland. And why not, only 1.8 million people live here, it's hardly worth most companies while to deliver here. Gets down from soapbox.

Peaky1 · 04/10/2012 13:30

I got my mattress protector from Tesco too. They're a bit of a pain in the arse to keep on properly (baggy corners on mine) and make sleeping just that little bit warmer but totally worth it to protect the mattress!

I am now on maternity leave! Well...annual leave for now but you know what I mean. First day off was yesterday and it feels so strange to me. I'm another one who loves their job so it's quite a strange feeling knowing how long I have off. I mostly just take 1 week at a time A/L! At the moment I'm convincing myself I'm bored even though there's plenty of little jobs to do here and there...I just can't be arsed though and instead feel bored. Really annoying! I know I should make the most of it without other children to look after but my brain isn't playing ball. Oh well....wonder what's on telly...

Oooh and someone asked earlier about feeding tops. I found strappy tops in Primark with removable straps - ideal and cheap! I bought a few in black and white. They also seem to have extra boobage support so I wonder if they were made specifically for nursing (but not advertised as). Anyway, have a hunt if you can get to a Primark!

YellowWellies · 04/10/2012 13:34

Oh it's my soapbox too. We try to shop local but when the local retailers double the price of something (our travel system which we got for £450 all in - is £750 up here in the one and only shop which sells baby gear (a grand total of 4 buggies / prams), and also whisky, bizarrely) - ok there is such a thing as the legitimate inclusion of local haulage costs and just plain price gouging. Sadly Orcadian retailers are not averse to the latter.

And don't get me started on delivery prices from south - John Lewis delivers totally free and I love them for this (sadly can't afford to shop there that regularly!) - but folks like Tesco Direct will add £20 to £50 an item. And Argos won't deliver up here at all! Which drives me batty when you can send something by Royal Mail for exactly the same price as to round the corner in London. Couriers are pointless up here - no one locks their doors - we don't do 'signed for' or 'registered post' - parcels are just dropped in your kitchen by the postie. Or in your porch if they know you have a dog in your house. I do like other local innovations such as the weekly Ikea run down to Edinburgh by our local haulier to collect everyone's orders Grin

To be fair there are only 20,000 of us up here but sometimes it feels like the dark ages...

horseylady · 04/10/2012 13:35

Yw how engaged is he? Mine was 4/5 engaged at 32 and 34 weeks and was 3/5 yesterday so moving in the right direction!! I think the first always gets ready earlier!!

Just drove to telco who don't do bedding there!! I can go home in 20minutes when the cleaners should be done too!!

Right will wander aimlessly round some more shops!! Should have walked the dogs.....

Peaky1 · 04/10/2012 13:36

Oh and I think YW mentioned a shower curtain for waterproofing too. I got a plain white £3 jobby from Wilkos, which I thought I'd use for home (planning home birth) to whack on whatever I go near or if I end up going to hospital it'll protect car seats etc.

Have just had an amusing vision of going into labour on Halloween (when I'm due) and people on the street outside being able to see DP follow me around with a massive white shower curtain. Happy Halloween kids!

Peaky1 · 04/10/2012 13:39

I would happily post a tesco bed sheet thingie up to you if you needed?

Peaky1 · 04/10/2012 13:40

Now i've read the post properly, I can see you can collect but that wasn't your point - rant away!

ValiumQueen · 04/10/2012 13:52

Stomach muscles have to split to make room for the baby. It is very normal and does not tend to cause major problems. Sometimes they need sewing back, but that is pretty rare. The pointy tummy will happen.

Peaky1 · 04/10/2012 13:57

Fucking whooping cough!!! Called surgery again today. I have my flu jab this Saturday and I wanted to ask if I could have both at the same time. No is the answer because the flu jab appointments are 1 min long (hence my 11:07 appointment) and people may want to ask questions with the WC jab so they need longer appointments. For this reason, nurses are not doing the WC jabs and we are to book in separately with doctors next week in their regular appointments.

So, let me get this straight, apparently nobody asks questions with a flu jab and if you do, you're holding up the queue of 1 min appointments. Secondly, instead it makes more sense to have 2 separate appointments and waste a doctors appointment when I might be blocking that slot for someone who actually NEEDS to see a doctor. ARE YOU SHITTING ME?

horseylady · 04/10/2012 14:05

Peaky - wonderful world of the nhs :) I always love the fact that I have to speak to the receptionist who decides whether or not I need too see the nurse or the dr.....

Home now :) am going to visit dunelm the website seems pretty good do will see what they have in. I just need to sit down for a little while!! I'm shattered!!

Off out for a curry tonight with the baby crowd and out for a curry tomorrow night?!!

I'll be the size of a house!!!

TheDetective · 04/10/2012 14:05

Grumpy grump grump.... I'll be back later for a right old whinge who'd of guessed but in the meanwhile I'm off to day assessment for a bloody CTG. I wanted a nap. Not a CTG :( pfffft.

Peaky1 · 04/10/2012 14:08

Oh Horsey it drives me round the bend. A bunch of chimps could run it better. I refuse to waste a doctors appointment so I'm making my first call to public health to see how I get on. Never done this before. I was so calm and bored until I called the surgery and now their dickhead logic has flipped my switch! Grrrrrr

Titsalinabumsquash · 04/10/2012 14:09

Afternoon ladies. Smile

My GP surgery threw me blank looks about even knowing the wc jab existed Hmm I have the midwife Monday so I'll ask.
35 weeks tomorrow bump has dropped so low and I have extreme amounts of pain/pressure down below, I can't really walk today (plus DP drive off with my crutches in the car this morning)
I've finally finished the last bits of sorting though and managed to rack up £250 from selling a couple of bits of junk we had lying round the house! Grin
It was my Nan 's 92nd birthday today so we took her for a nice lunch out.
I went to the cinema last night, we saw looper, it's sad, I forewarn you!

I also received a "sorry we couldn't see you before your baby is born, here is his red book, please fill it in" letter from the hv who I've never met. When did that start happening? !

MissMummy1 · 04/10/2012 14:11

My aunt is a receptionist at my surgery. Popped in today when I was over that way to see if they knew anything else about the whooping cough vaccine. APPARENTLY my name is the only one on the list of people who have asked about it?! 'Off record' they have the vaccine's in the fridge but aren't allowed to give them out yet as the practice manager hasn't decided who will be administering them or whether they will be given with the flu jab (which are 2 Saturday morning drop-in sessions for the pregnant, elderly and others requiring it...). Unimpressed doesn't cover it. My aunt is going to kick up a fuss for me. If it's not sorted by Monday I'm going to start properly complaining. I used to be so bolshy and militant before I became pregnant, now I just crumble at the thought of confrontation....
