Liquidclocks...Imogen for a girl & Jack for a boy! Very much like your names..what is your other child called (sorry don't recall if you've said already!) i.e maybe you need to say them both out together to see how they sound IYSWIM..??!!! That's what we did & thought DD went well with either...

Coriander73 · 16/05/2006 19:32

OH..another thing!! Aside from Mothercare...try Halfords - they were excellent, free fitting & will price match Mothercare...:)

Coriander73 · 16/05/2006 19:36

One more thing really & then I'm silent!! I bought a fab dress from Crave the other day. We have a black tie dinner in Bath beg of June so needed something to wear..!! Found this lovely black (although comes in Lilac too which I liked but thought black better for this do & perhaps I wont look so enormous either!) jersey dress which seems to sort of glide on when you put it on...feels so so comfy but looks great..so that cheered me up no end!!! :o

Lysettes · 16/05/2006 20:29

good to know about halfords!

liquid - those names are lovely - we were thinking about samuel, but in the end we have gone for jacob alexander - i'm not supposed to be telling people but i doubt dh will ever end up on here and see that i have told you ladies!!!

compo - i got a great no 7 mousse fake tan with my voucher - so i don't look too pasty when we go to cyprus next month!!! couldn't find the mediterranean pg stuff though - maybe it doesn't exist Wink

i have a question - if my lo is born really early and he's in july or august can i stil lbe on this thread? even though he will already have been born - i won't know anyone on the due in july / august threads???

mabel1973 · 16/05/2006 21:05

Hello!!!
had an interesting few days with DS - took the side off his cot in preparation for a 'big bed', DH went in to his room this morning to get him and couldn't get in because he was curled up on the floor behind the door fast asleep Sad.
Agree with cor and cmpo re: car seats and travel systems - can't bear to see tiny babies being pushed about in car seats all hunched up.
I had a graco car seat, but the base didn't fit in my old car, or our new car, so had to just use the seat belt all the time which is a bit of a faff, I have a maxi cosi one for DS now, which is great. Also got that fitted at Halfords - v. good!
Didn't realise that about the Boots mother and Baby club - ithink I joined after I had DS, but never received anything more than free packet of baby rice and some of those fruit flakes!
Compo - the mediterranean maternity toiletries are next to the baby toiletries in boots (God I am so sad that I know that!).
Lysettes - my old company car was an estate, and we found it so useful for all the baby paraphenalia that when I gave it back, we bought another estate because we didn't think we'd manage without!
Wow - here endeth my essay!

compo · 16/05/2006 21:06

of course you can still be on this thread Smile You can give us the benefit of your experience when your lo comes along and can reassure us that the end is in sight when we are all still fat and waddling!!
LiquidClocks - I like all those names but especially Samuel as I think Sam is really nice

Thanks everyone for the info on car seats.

Compo, I completely agree about baby being in the travel system thingy. Although we bought a travel system, we never ever sat the car seat in the pram, always lay DS flat. I felt bad enough putting him in the car seat to go out in the car let alone in the pram!

HellKat · 17/05/2006 05:57

Morning all.
Welcome to the new comers!!
Hope everyone's well.
Nothing to report here really Smile
Have a great day, love to all xxxxxx

Bella23 · 17/05/2006 09:46

Morning everyone.

Yes I got my vouchers through from Boots yesterday and am very impressed. I shall be going at lunchtime to spend. I shall investigate about the Mediterranean preg stuff.
OOH I do so love getting things for free!!

Gosh so many decisions already on car seats! Am I right in thinking that it’s easier to just have a car seat permanently in the car rather than the ones that come in and out all the time?? Thoughts?

Mabel – arh bless your little one on sleeping on the floor, sounds like he’s just going to take a while to adjust.

Lysettes – ooh am liking the name Jacob Alexander.

Coriander – like Imogen and Jack, particularly Imogen.

Names we have so far are Tabitha or Sebastian (although DH still not convinced by Sebastian – still working on him)

Well I am back to getting up in the night for a wee about 4 times, really annoying! Is anybody else suffering from this?

So 2 more sleeps until my scan on Friday……..am so wishing away this week!

Hope you all have a lovely day planned

Lysettes · 17/05/2006 10:15

mabel - lol at your lo!

bella - good luck for friday - bet you are like a child on christmas eve!!!

thanks for letting me stay guys if jake is born early Grin

Am trying to avoid a sample sale of childrens and baby clothes this morning - two great stores, and i just know i'll end up spending loads of money.....

have a great day everyone!

Bella23 · 17/05/2006 10:18

Lysettes - I'm reckoning that you shouldn't hold back...........go forth and spend!Grin

Normsnockers · 17/05/2006 10:38

My dh is a "which reading, safety freak" and we bough a mamas and papa's prima viaggio car seat and travel system for ds1 as it was at the top of the safety ratings back then. The extra base mean't we could take ds out in either car at a moment's notice, no fiddling around and I confess if he was asleep in the car seat I did just take it out and clip it into the pram base but we didn't have him sitting in a car seat for much time except in car/shopping trips, unlike my SIL whose dd seemed to be never out of the car seat even in the house.

Now this version of infant car seat has been superceded by ones with higher safety ratings but as it's in very good condition and ds2 won't be spending much time in it we will use it again.

Ds1 is currently in a maxi-cosi priori XP which was top of the which report safety chart at the time we needed to get him a bigger seat. The other car which we use less often has a second hand britax seat given to us by friends. He still fits into both of these at just over 3 but a similar sort of car seat in my parents car is too small for him already so I've bought them a Britax hi-liner ready for when they may be looking after him a little in September when ds2 arrives. (I can't stand having to swap car seats from car to car so we just buy extra, lazy I know).

I can't understand why my parents car seat is too small for him but our 2 are OK, I can't remember what brand it is but is definately a stage 2 type of thing.

I am getting an itchy credit card at the thought of you lot out shopping for car seats and prams/puschairs but dh thinks that everything we had for ds1 will do at the moment. I am however looking into a buggyboard for ds1 but would like one that will fit the mamas and papas freestyler and the mclaren techno and think I may have to get two different ones. Does anyone know about these things ?

Coriander73 · 17/05/2006 12:15

I'm going for a Maclaren Twin Techno....light & easy to fold into back of my boot....:o

I've not had any urges to buy anything else yet...don't know why. Thought I'd want to once I'd had my scan but the feeling isn't there....yet!!! We are going JL tomorrow to buy DD a junior bed & new changing mat for baby (as DD has worn out hers)...does that count?!!!

homemama · 17/05/2006 13:04

Despite my misgivings about the M&P newborn one, we went for the M&P next stage one when DS was about 9mths. He just somehow seemed to fit that one best and it looked really sturdy.

Just back from tumble tots. DS loves it and so do I as he comes home and falls straight asleep for about 1.5hours then has a big, late lunch. He munches on a banana and some parsnip crisps there and back to keep him going.

We go to a music group which is like Jo Jingles but is independent but it is closing soon as numbers are dwindling. Thinking of driving to the nearest jo jingles class but I've heard mixed reviews. Can anyone recommend JJ? I've heard they're crowded and lack stimulation. Just wondered i it is worth it. Smile

Norms- I've heard before that it can be tricky to fit a buggy boardto M&P prams, something to do with the brake. I'd check it out though as it may not be all models.

Bella- I was up 4 times last night too. Not funny! Good luck for Friday!
Mabel- what a cutie your lo is! Somehow when they're asleep they seem so much younger and littler. Smile

Normsnockers · 17/05/2006 13:34

What's with all this weeing in the night, ladies ?

Either I sleep very heavily or it's true that I have a large bladder. Maybe I'm not drinking enough water. I do go to the loo as soon as I get up but I can't say the need to go actually wakes me.

Homemama, I am finding that buggyboards/kiddyboards and M&Ps pushchairs are generally incompatible. I might contact M&P direct to see if they sell one or can recommend something.

Bella23 · 17/05/2006 13:47

Norms - you lucky thing!Grin
I try not to drink anything for a few hours before going to bed but the urge to wee wakes me up, very annoying!! I am renown for having the bladder of a flea though!

Am off tonight for a facial and am a bit worried about lying on my back for an hour. Its not harmful is it? Should be ok just for an hour????
In desperate need for some pore unclogging and some eyebrow taming!!Grin

Normsnockers · 17/05/2006 13:48

LOL at "the bladder of a flea"

Normsnockers · 17/05/2006 13:50

My problem is sensitive erect nipples, they've been this way since about week 3 and I have to shield them from the power shower jets as it stings !

I don't remember them being like this last time I was pregnant although my boobs were tender then.

mandaz · 17/05/2006 14:55

Hi all

Liquidclocks - Sorry to sound thick but what do you mean by the carry cot style car seats? I'll definately go into Mothercare when ready to buy, I've heard that they give good advice. I like all the names you suggested, especially Elliott. I think I've already posted my names but hey, I like seeing them written down so here goes; Georgia Rose for a girl and Thomas Jack for a boy. Grin

I'm with the bladder of a flea ladies! I was up 3 times last night. I just can't believe how often I'm going! It doesn't help that LO seems to enjoy kicking me in the bladder area on a regular basis.

I went in to Mothercare again today (just to look, of course) and they had all the cute little summer outfits in! I got really gooey but I didn't buy anything. I'm waiting for my SureStart grant to come through as I'm not entitled to any maternity leave. Is anyone else applying for this grant? Does anyone know how long it takes to come through?

Normsnockers · 17/05/2006 15:05

Mandaz if cash is tight, try and wait for the end of season sales and then buy the size to fit for next summer when your little one will be 9-12 months old.

I do this at the end of every season and generally get things for half price. You will probably be given loads of clothes as presents too so hold off if you can and just get a few essentials but keep the receipts in case you have too many, then you can get refunds or swap the surplus for other stuff. I make our money go much further but still have some new things despite being quite well supplied with second hand and buying bargains off eBay also which is where some parents sell of their brand new unused surplus gifts.

I find mothercare quite expensive and we bought our first pram/car seat from Kiddicare who advertise on mumsnet and saved lots of dosh.
We did however check it all out in our nearest mothercare first.

mandaz · 17/05/2006 15:19

Thanks Normsuckers, that's a good idea. I have been holding off buying clothes. I've been buying smellies and nappies when I see them on buy one get one free and I've been checking out Ebay too. I will definitely hold out till the sales though. I won't get any support from LO's father so it's down to me which isn't easy as I'm not working but I'll manage. My friends and family have been great in offering to buy things for me - so far my cot, pram and nappy wrapper are all being given as gifts. I figure that to begin with I need about a week's worth of clothes and whatever extras I get given when LO arrives. So far I've bought some little hats, scratch mitts, bibs and socks. They're all so tiny!

mandaz · 17/05/2006 15:20

I just realised I called you Normsuckers instead of Normsnockers. Terribly sorry Blush all I can say is my memory is terrible at the moment.

Normsnockers · 17/05/2006 16:31

Mandaz Have you signed up for pampers and huggies club websites yet ? Lots of vouchers to be had there and they send you them automatically every so often during baby's first 18 months or so.

Boots do a club thing with freebie vouchers and Tescos also. I love a freebie/voucher.

Actually I will need some new bibs as in a fit of sleep deprived rage I threw out all the bibs that didn't fasten with velcro as I couldn't bear tying ribbons behind ds1's neck in the middle of the night (I bottle fed). The velcro fasteners didn't all survive repeated washing.
Must check out ebay for brand new bibs. Hurrah, something I need and can shop for to satisfy my shopping urge.

Lysettes · 17/05/2006 16:38

Norms i'm with you on the giant bladder - i was rather worried that i didn't get up in the middle of the night like everyone else needed to, but thank goodness i know i'm not the only one!

i managed to hold off going to the sample sale, and even peter jones didn't tempt me! big pat on the back for me Grin

our buggy is a mountain buggy coming over from nz with mil and fil when they come over in august. i am holding off going to the shops this week as i think this weekend we will be buying the chest of drawers for lo's room, that will be enough for one week!

mandaz · 17/05/2006 18:36

Hi Norms, yes I have joined those clubs. I don't think I've had anything through for them though. I love getting the emails from Pampers which go through the development of the baby week by week. I don't know if any of you have heard of it but theres a website called BFreebies.com where you can send off for loads of free samples and there's a kids section on there too. I've had quite a bit through from them including free dummy samples.
Also, for those people who like competitions, www.theprizefinder.com lists all the competitions you can enter, most of which are free. I've won the odd CD and book from there.
