Morning all.
Puppy- glad your scan went well. Sounds exactly the same as mine, lo opening & closing mouth, not in right position, having to walk around etc lol.

Weight gain wise- I rapidly gained 3/4's stone in the beginning then nothing. Last time I weighed myself I was 18/19 weeks and had'nt gained since 12 weeks lol (not since that huge jump). I have'nt weighed myself since (really must do) but know I've gained a little bit more. I always seem to gain quickly in the 1st trimester, not much in the 2nd and a little at the end. With ds2 I only gained 28lbs (shocking considering I was pigging on choc 24/7). With ds1 however I gained 6 stone!!!!!!!!! yep a heck of alot. back then though I needed to because i was very underweight. Luckily managed to lose it relatively quickly both times so here's hoping I do again.
Hope everyone is going to be out & about enjoying the sun! Absolutely gorgeous out there already. Good excuse to sunbathe too if it gets warm enough, exposing your tum to sunlight (not too much though) gives the baby all the vit D it needs and makes us feel good to. I'll still be slapping on the suncream though, don't want to look like a lobster Wink
Have a great day all. x

Coriander73 · 11/05/2006 09:34

Hi TopBanana, no, in the end we didn't as she got better so to speak - last night she slept through!!!! We hope to move her into the spare room by July when she'll have a proper bed so hoping to hold out until them if we can.

Bella23 · 11/05/2006 10:31

Morning everyone.

Gosh all this talk about weight gain, I can honestly say I have avoided the scales every since I was about 8 weeks as I really don't want to know the damage all the chocolate bars and cakes are making!!

Am having a slight worry this morning, feel like I have not have any movements since last night. I have just had my breakfast and drank loads of ice cold water but nothing. Should I be worried?

TopBanana · 11/05/2006 10:49

Hi Bella, I don't think you should worry. Baby is probably just sleeping Smile I think at this stage with dd I only used to feel her moving on an evening.

Bella23 · 11/05/2006 10:53

Thanks Topbanna, much appreciated. Just a paranoid first timer!!

Normsnockers · 11/05/2006 11:00

Bella I can go all day without feeling baby move, it's only when I lay down in the evening that baby gets active although sometimes bending over and squishing my tummy up starts him off.

My m/w recommended keeping a kick chart last time to see if there was any pattern and to monitor the frequency of movement so that you know what is normal and what is a bit reduced.

I am still a couple of pounds lighter than the weight I was when I got the BFP back in January (due to the vomiting and dehydration) and am hoping to only gain a stone and a half (about 20 pounds) over that weight by week 40.

I have 19 weeks to go so a pound a week sounds about right, here's hoping I can stick to that and come out of this second pregnancy less lardy that I when started as I'm not planning to breastfeed so don't need the fat reserves to support that post natally. Thanks for that info on pregnancy related weight gain info Marls

mandaz · 11/05/2006 12:35

Hi all

Mabel - thank goodness for that! I was beginning to worry as the area over my ribs looks huge! Grin
Puppy - glad your scan went well
Bella - I've been a bit worried about movements as I seem to go for long periods of nothing then LO suddenly springs into action! It's hard to know what's 'normal'. I have found that if I drink ice cold lemonade LO moves quite a bit!

All this talk about gaining weight - I daren't look! I've suddenly started craving sweet stuff. I went to the cinema last night and after I'd gotten over the shock of having to pay £2 for a tiny tub of ice cream it was well worth it! I really have to stop. Grin

It's so warm today. I think I'm going to have to buy one of those little hand-held fans if this keeps up!

mabel1973 · 11/05/2006 13:58

Hi all

Puppy - glad to hear your scan went well.
What glorious day again - I really hope it stays like this as tommorow we take ds on his 1st ever camping trip - yikes! Am very concerned that he won't sleep and just poke us all night!
Well the men came this morning to re-plaster the dinig room ceiling after the bathroom disaster. So have lovely smooth celing (in stead of peeling off paper as it was before) and they come back next week to re-decorate the whole room in my chosen colour!!! So it's all turned out ok in the end!

Bella23 · 11/05/2006 14:53

Well ladies, thanks for the reassurance over the lack of movements. I have had quite a few this afternoon so panicky feeling has now goneSmile

mandaz - ooh ice-cream, I keep seeing the advert on TV for the haagen daz wafer ones which look fab, I must buy some...YUMGrin

Mabel - camping sounds fun. I reckon tomorrow is going to be just as glorious so you should be fine.

So wish I was outside rather than being stuck in an office.....so unfair!!

compo · 11/05/2006 14:55

Hi everyone. Went to see midwife today. Bit annoying as it was a different one and she asked why I was there as I was meant to have an appointment at 24 weeks and I'm 22 weeks. I told her the previous midwife told me when to come back - nothing to do with me. Then I asked her about my enlarged kidney that is in the wrong place according to the sonographer and she said she didn't know anything about mother's bits and pieces and that I needed to go to the gp to make sure it wasn't anything to worry about. I think it was the condescending tone that annoyed me. She looked through my notes too and where I've put beofre pregnancy alcohol units a week 14 she said 'you're very sociable'!!!!! So I said 'well that is the average weekly recommended intake' - I wish I'd lied now and said none as it really doesn't matter does it?!! Surely they should be more concerned on what you drink during pregnancy. Sorry, rant over...

Normsnockers · 11/05/2006 17:33

Lol compo, aren't some midwives great (not) !

tassis · 11/05/2006 20:24

Hi everyone!

We had our scan last Thursday. They've stopped telling gender here, but sonographer was very obliging and stopped the camera right over LOs "bits". Unfortuately niether dh nor I are any good at reading scans so we're none the wiser. So, a surprise for us in September!

I was suffering with terrible back/pelvis/hip pain and it was really getting me down. Made a doc appt and have a physio referral for monday but it's almost totally cleared up. I feel a bit sily now as I was very hormonal and weepy about it! DO you think I should just go to the appt anyway? I think I will...

Borrowed a baby bjorn sling today and so nearly have all the equipment we need. Will maybe acquire a baby bath (borrowed one last time), but may just put wee one in bath with ds. Trying to source a boppy feeding cushion - let me know if anyone sees one.

I thought I'd have put on loads of weight, as I ate constantly for most of the first 12 weeks (like 3 bags of crisps at a time!) but was pleasantly surprised last week to find out I've still only gained under a stone. Feel fat though.

Marls001 · 12/05/2006 01:50

Cori, I'm totally with you. Honestly scared to death of what's to come - not the birth, that's cake. It's what's AFTER that's so difficult. Hate to always be the one naming meds on this thread Blush, but can tell y'all right now I'll be thinking of antidepressants. Had to take one after DS was born - but it was a lifesaver. Had full-on postpartum; didn't care at all about the baby or my life or anything. In retrospect it's frightening to think about but at the time just wasn't feeling anything, but misery. Hopefully won't be like that this time, but like I said I'm frightened, and will be prepared for the worst.

On a positive note Smile, my friend who had a miscarriage called me. Says she went through a difficult period but definitely ready to move on & wants to get together for dinner sometime soon! Asked me about my own pregnancy and everything. Yay.

mabel1973 · 12/05/2006 07:14

Hi all

Marls - I hope things are better for you after the birth this time round.
Tassis - definately go for you appt!
Well we are all set for our camping trip - wish me luck girls and i'll catch up in a couple of days!

val da reeee...... val da raaaa!!!!!

HellKat · 12/05/2006 08:40

Morning all.
Mabel- Have a great trip hun! Gorgeous weather for it.
Tassis - great news on your scan. We don't know what we're having as lo would'nt stay still, crossed it's legs and played shy lol.
Hope everyone has a great day. x

compo · 12/05/2006 09:00

Morning everyone Smile Cori - hope you're camping down South as the forecast is very good for down there but not so good for the rest of the country!!
Has anyone had there MAT B1 form yet to give to work? My midwife said it wasn't available til week 24 but my work have asked for it now!!

OP posts:
Bella23 · 12/05/2006 10:02

Morning ladies.

Compo - I asked my midwife for the MATB1 form about a month ago and she just gave me one. I think your m/w is talking rubbish! She sounds a bit funny, hopefully you will get a different one next time.

Tassis - great news on the scan, yippee!! Mine is now a week today and I am feeling really nervous about it. I think I am going to be quite stressed going in!

Marls - arh, how lovely of your friend. As a person who previsouly had a m/c and then took a year to get pregnant again I know how tough it can be to talk to pregnant friends so good on her!Smile

Its Friday - ye ha .....and the sun is out!!Grin

Hope everyone has a good weekend planned xx

Coriander73 · 12/05/2006 11:44

Compo, it's Mabel camping not me...:o

My legs are bloody sore & I went swimming yesterday so how depressing is that?!!

I have a mad craving for salad cream...eating it with everything at the moment, including my huge portion of chips I've just picked up from the canteen at work...just couldn't help myself :o

liquidclocks · 12/05/2006 13:29

Hi all! Just come back from hospital and it's a boy! Just coming to terms now with the fact I'll never have a litlle girl but I'm totally ok wit it - surprised myself a bit. Just very glad it's all healthy.

Homemama - sorry your scan wasn't so good, I'll keep you in my prayers - big hug.

My midwife says you can only have a MATB1 at 24 wks too. I think this is something to do with that when you reach 24 wks, even if you miscarry it's still counted as full term and you're still entititled to maternity leave and pay - and of course this is the week that it's possible for baby to survive from.

Just a thought for those of you discussing pain releif - after my wonderful experience having an epidural last time I've asked if I can have one again. Anyway, apparently if you put it in wirting before you go into labour you're effectivily giving informed consent in advance which means yo don't hae to listen to the anaesthetist rabbit on while you have 10 more contractions than you needed to (which is what happened last time) and you can have it put in as soon as they're sure labour is well established.

Also - that itching I had carried on driving me nuts until last night when I used my PUPPP relief soap from the states - feeling wonderful today - no itching at all!!! :)

Coriander73 · 12/05/2006 14:36

Liquidclocks...PMSL re epidural! I think I may do that...I'll never forget how jolly the anaesthetist was explaining to me the potential side effects (namely paralysis but hey you'll not rational while having contractions are you?!!) etc whilst I just looked at him & said just put the ffffing needle in my back NOW & why the hell are you so bloody jolly! Then the next day he came by the ward & said "Oh how lovely to see my patients up & walking after the epidural"....:o :o

I'd say the overwhelming majority are having the same sex again...except Compo I think..unless I've missed anyone & those that want know until the birth :o

TopBanana · 12/05/2006 15:16

Hi, I have got the worst cough, keep thinking I'm going to pop the baby out!!

I got my MAT B1 on Wednesday. I was 22 weeks. I've asked for it at my last 2 apps but she had it ready for me at that 1. I need it as proof of pregnancy so I can apply for a move off the council to a 3 bed house. I'm guessing my employer will need the original so need to take a few copies.

Ok so with an epidural is the big scary needle worth the no pain from contractions? Can you still feel the head crowning and just no pain? I can't really imagine it TBH!!

liquidclocks · 12/05/2006 15:33

Personally I didn't feel a thing with the epidural - not even the head crowning, bearing down or any of that - thank goodness, going through that once was enough! The midwife told me when to push and as I was hooked up to a monitor I could see when the contractions were too which was helpful. Other bonus was no local needed for the stitches I needed afterwards :)

Definitly absolutely having one this time, no second thoughts and would recommend to anyone!

Only thing was that I thought was weird, and maybe nothing to do with epi so would be interested if anyone else had this - I'd not slept for about 30 odd hours when my son was born (at 1:31am) as they'd been trying to induce me for ages - but I still couldn't sleep. I wasn't even tired, it was like I was on a high - you'd have thought you should be exhausted but it didn't hit me until the following night. Anyone else's birth like that?

Coriander73 · 12/05/2006 15:36

TopBanana....anybody who has had one before will have a different story to tell but the overwhelming majority I'm sure will say that about 10-15 mins after it goes in the relief is just unbelievable!! Think of the best orgasm you've ever had & multiply it...:o :o :o

You don't even see the needle & let me tell you at that point if you are in a lot of pain you're not thinking straight & you just want someone to take it away...it's truely wonderful!! I can't tell you about the actual pushing due to the fact I ended up with an e-section due to the position of the baby - we could have been there all night but she wasn't coming out! I wouldn't hesitate again though...unless of course I cope better with other forms of pain relief or in an ideal world arrive at the hospital 10 cms dilated & they say one push & it's here!!!!!!!

compo · 12/05/2006 15:38

snap LiquidClocks - I couldn't feel a thing with the epidural and also couldn't sleep on ds' first night. I just lay there watching him sleeping thinking 'wow' and 'I really should be asleep'!!
If you don't have an epidural and need stitches what kind of local anathestic is it? Is it an injection or a spray (sorry if sound really thick but I have no idea Blush)
Sorry for mixing up Cori and Mabel!!!!

Hello! Am i too late to join this thread? Smile

I'm 23 1/2 weeks pregnant (due 5th sept) and live in sunny sheffield with ds who is 5 1/2 and dp who is 41! I'm 28, we found out at the 20 week scan that we're having another little boy Smile
