Welcome Frazzle - and congratulations on your baby boy!

Compo - I'm not sure what they'd have used instead, I've always assumed injection but could be wrong - anyway, whatever it's further faffing with an already bruised and battered area - anything to avoid that!

I like the idea of one push and it's out - if only! My Gran gave birth to my uncle inside of an hour start to finish but said actually it was so much of a shock to suddenly have another baby that a longer labour might have been preferable - give her time to get used to the idea it was coming! I had another friend who's sister had a bad backache one day and in the afternoon was attending a parents evening, went to the loo, and suddenly felt she needed to push - and out it came!

TopBanana · 12/05/2006 16:00

Welcome frazzledfairy and congratulations Smile

Thanks guys!! Just one more question...!! How long does it take for the epidural to wear off?

Coriander73 · 12/05/2006 16:11

TopBanana..it gets topped up as soon as you start to feel the pain again!!!!! :o :o

liquidclocks · 12/05/2006 16:12

For me about an hour - then they made me walk to the bathroom all wobbly legged (and graciously supported by DH!) and put me in the bath - very welcome as DS had done his 1st poo before we got the nappy on Blush

compo · 12/05/2006 16:24

welcome FrazzlwFairy Smile
LiquidClocks - I had to have 2 epidurals as the first one didn't work down one side and I'm not sure if that's the reason but I still needed help the next morning getting to the bathroom

Sorry that was meant for TopBanana!! I blame the sun and pregnancy brain because I keep getting everyone muddled up!!

TopBanana · 12/05/2006 17:25

Thanks!! Was a bit scared to have one last time, but feel quite reassured if I need it this time Smile

Going to have a chinese now because I can't be bothered to cook Grin

Thanks again!!

mandaz · 13/05/2006 10:57

Hi all
I had some great news today...I've won £100 on a Chat magazine competition! I never win anything so I'm really chuffed. Think I'm going to be sensible and put it into savings for a rainy day Smile

I'm definately going for an epidural. I have to say, the big needle bit scares me a bit but not as much as the whole giving birth/pain bit!

I have a question...is it true that you can do a poo whilst in labour? Blush sorry to ask but someone told me that I'm I've been worried sick thinking I'm going to stay off fibre the week before I'm due!

LO keeps kicking me in the bladder! It's really very uncomfortable! Not that I'm complaining really - at least I can feel the kicks at the moment! I'm really looking forward to my next visit to the midwife (24th, which is also my Mum's birthday!) Can't wait to hear LO's heartbeat again.

Hope everyone has a good weekend

compo · 13/05/2006 11:18

Well done Mandaz Smile
With the poo thing - usually women evacuate their bowels before labour - I did the night before when I started having period like pains. But some do poo during labour but it isn't anything to worry about - the midwife has seen it all before and just whisks it away with all the other gunk and you won't even know you've done it!!

mandaz · 13/05/2006 12:57

Thanks Compo

I really wouldn't want to be a midwife!

Why is it when people find out your pregnant, they go out of their way to tell you as many horror stories as possible!

calvemjoe · 13/05/2006 14:23

Hey everyone, hope you're all having a good weekend so far.

Welcome to Frazzle, we share the same due date (but I bet you have your lo 1st!)

Liquid & compo, I had an epidural with ds and slept (or possibly passed out) for 2 hours after I met him and was sure he was safe and alive. But I may have been in shock from the whole your babies dead, no he's not , yes he is thing they had going on.

Marls, I know what you mean about anti depresents. I had really bad PND too after ds. Wondering how i'll cope with a baby and toddler if I get it again.

homemama · 13/05/2006 18:47

Hi everyone, If it's ok with you guys, I'd just like to carry on as normal. DH and I are remaining positive although not blinkered. We got some blood tests back on Fri which were good so we'll just wait and see what the next scan and tests bring.
Thank you all or your kind words last. Smile

TopBanana · 13/05/2006 19:02

Hi homemama, hope you are ok Smile

So, did you find out the sex? Hows the sickness?

Marls001 · 13/05/2006 19:26

Welcome Frazzle!! I'm having a boy as well.

Congrats Manda!! You certainly deserve it! ... echoing Compo, yes, you can poop a bit during labor BUT everyone understands, and it doesn't end up as embarassing as you might think, considering everything else that will be going on at the time.

Manda, Mom was telling me stories about her friends and friends' daughters/DILs who lost their babies at month 5/6!! It's not a sore point with me as I'm not worried about that happening, but can you imagine!! What a subject!!

Didn't end up having or wanting an epi myself but am so, so glad y'all have a choice if you feel you need it. Birth should be (as much as possible) the way the birthing mother wants it to be.

Calvemjoe, thanks. Glad to at least be sharing these feelings with you. Feeling lucky all the friends I've met here in Arkansas are understanding; one of them went through a terrible time with her first (long before we came to this area or I knew her), and everyone else watched her go through it, so they're well aware. Everything else about pregnancy going so well, just have to line up resources, suck in a deep breath and prepare as best we can, just in case.
Thanks also Mabel for good wishes Smile.

mabel1973 · 14/05/2006 12:24

Hi all

Well the camping trip was slightly soggy (we gave up and came home last night!), it was fun though, DS was so cold in the night though and I kept getting cramp in my sleeping bag (NIGHTMARE!!!!) and constantly needed a wee. So one night of that was quite enough. DS enjoyed looking in the rock pools with his net and we took him to the sea life centre at Scarborough - which he enjoyed.
We are going to go for another attempt in June!
Welcome to Frazzle! can't believe there are still people joining now - and all these boys!!! There's ceratinly not going to be a man shortage in 20 years time!

Lysettes · 14/05/2006 17:36

hey everyone! back after i think almost 2 weeks absence.

HM you poor thing - Can you not have another scan before the 6 weeks is up - it makes me sad as well thinking of you worrying for the next few weeks and not able to do anything about it. and that's what we're all here for (even though i haven't been very much lately) - so there's no lowering the tone at all!

i have now stopped work (actually for the last two weeks), and we have finally got rid of our builders so it's more like our place again.

threw a dinner party last night - could have thrown the ploates at dh half way through the afternoon when he looked at the 3kilo piece of pork and suggested that wouldn't be enough for 8 people......

have also been advised by consultant that our lo is going to be early and small, and when i asked what they meant by early, he said around 34/35 weeks. and also strongly suggested that a natural birth would be pretty much a waste of time trying to do as they would induce and roughly 50% of inductions go on to need a c-section, so most women choose to go straight for that option. It sounds silly (and sorry if i've missed this whole conversation while i've not been here) but i really wanted to try and do things naturally - what do you all think? should i try it anyway, and see how far we get, just in case we don't need a c-section?????

he has also been kicking a huge amount - strong kicks and i can probably feel around 50 of them a day. dh is a kiwi so i guess our son will be playing in the 2027 rugby world cup opposing finalist side????? and he kicks whenever i am talking about him - as if he knows - there he goes again!!!

re extra scans - i have to have a unterine doppler scan to measure the blood flow i nabout a week and half - had one at the last scan and it showed up that the blood flow is not 100% through to the placenta, hence the small baby, early baby discussions with the consultant - so i have another one of those in about 10 days, and then because of the high b pressure, i think scans every 2/3 weeks.

have anyone elses feet swollen up with the heat???? mine have been so painful, and then make my legs hurt - seriously i look like i've just stepped off a plane all the time!

anyway, guess that's enough, sorry for the long post, but i'm all caught up now, and promise to be a much better behaved MN'er and get on here more regularly.

did we decide to start another thread once we have all had our scans, or are we just continuing this one?

lol

Hi people

hope you don't mind me joining you but have picked up a lot of info already from reading your conv. I am due on the 18th Sept or there abouts and I am bored of being pregnant already!! I'm very scared of being a mum, and I am being made redundant at the end of my mat leave so don't know when I'll be returning to work if ever!

Hope to join in your conversations properly soon. Smile

Coriander73 · 15/05/2006 09:04

Part three thread needed don't you think? :o

HellKat · 15/05/2006 09:28

Morning all.
Cori- Definitely time for a new one. This one takes ages to load Grin
Lysettes- Welcome back. My ds2 was born at 34 weeks and he was induced. Totally natural labour. My waters started leaking at 33 wks and he was born 52 mins into 34th week. There was never any talk of a c section. I'd say go for it naturally. They'll be monitering you (and babba). Any signs of distress, they can whip him out.

Hiya every one else!
Welcome Round!!

Well i did it. I braved the scales. oh god I wish I had'nt!!!!!!!!!!! Gone is my skinny figure. It's been replaced by a huge pg momma Grin. I'd gained 10lbs very quickly in the beginning and had'nt gained anymore. I have'nt weighed myself since I was around 13/14 weeks. Did it last night & ................................................
I've gained 14lbs on top of that Shock!!!!!!!!!
Weird thing is, this pg I've been eating pretty healthily so either I'm storing huge amounts of excess flab or this baby will be huge! I don't even look too, too much fatter either (just have a gigantic bump). Ohhhhh the joys!!!! Wink

Have a great day all. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Bella23 · 15/05/2006 09:49

Morning ladies

Any chance we can hold off on starting a new thread until I've had my scan on Friday? Sorry guys I know that I am late one at 23 weeks so understand if you are gagging for a new thread. Just feeling a little anxious about it.

Mandaz - congrats on the champers, lovely prize, always lovely to win free stuff!!
I am with you on the poo thing although I am reckoning that the whole childbirth is a total indignity so a bit of poo is only the tip of the ice-berg so to speak!!

Hellkat - you are a brave woman getting on those scales, I just can't bring myself.......not a lot I can do about any weight gain so just going to ignore it!!

Lysettes - poor you and the wollen feet / legs. Gte some nice cool gel stuff from body shop and keep it in the fridge and then put that on at the end of the day when you have your feet up, will work wonders and feel fab.

Well my bump is suddenly huge, caught a side profile of myself in a shop window and was shocked. I think my bump is going to be massive at the end......might have to re-think my maternity leave and finish earlier....Grin

Welcome Roundabout

Hope everyone has a good week planned xx

HellKat · 15/05/2006 09:55

Bella- Sure hun! x

mabel1973 · 15/05/2006 10:54

HI ALL
Well we have just about recovered from our trip (and dried out!)
Took the side of DS's cot last night, in preparation for a bed (so lo can have the cot), he wasn't too sure and kept getting out, but eventually settled after a few tears. I've just put him down for his nap now and can't hear any banging about, so am assuming he's still in there!
Well it's my Birthday today - Happy birthday to me - 33 today (GULP!). Spending the day attacking a large pile of washing up, a load of washing and tidying - yipee!
Welcome roundabout!
Bella - I hope you do get a choice birth wise, i can't imagine it's a nice feeling to have that decision taken out of your hands.

Coriander73 · 15/05/2006 11:09

Happy Birthday Mabel!! Another 1973 girl...:o

OK Bella, I'll start a new one Friday once you've had your scan..:o

Bella23 · 15/05/2006 11:11

Happy Birthday - yippee
Am also a 1973 girlie.......Grin

mabel1973 · 15/05/2006 11:39

Thanks girls - that makes me feel less like an old git Wink
esp when DH is only 28 Blush
