Ooh got a bit of a toy boy - well done !!Grin

mandaz · 15/05/2006 11:53

Hi all

Another miserable day here in Yorkshire. I think it's going to stay cold over the next week.

LO is kicking a bit more now but not as much as Lysettes! I get the feeling LO will like their food as he/she seems to kick most just after I've eaten Grin

Marls - that's an awful thing to say to someone whos pg. I can't believe how insensitive some people can be. I've been told all sorts of horror stories about labour, epidurals etc. What gets me is that some people seem to take such pleasure in telling you such gory stories!

Mabel - I think you are very brave going camping. I went on a Scout camp last Summer for a week and it nearly killed me! My back was sore for ages afterwards. I feel terribly old when I say I like a proper bed, running water and a proper toilet when on holiday! Blush

Lysettes - My feet are swelling up almost every night now. I've taken to laying on the sofa with my feet in the air! It definitely gets worse in the heat (not that I've had much opportunity to test that theory out much!)

Roundabout - welcome. Sorry you're having a tough time with your job. Have you had all your scans etc? Do you know if you're having a boy or girl?

Lysettes · 15/05/2006 11:55

hey everyone!

welcome Roundabout - always good to hear people are joining us!

HK - thanks for the advice - that's what i really wanted to do, but didn't know if it would be a sort of selfish thing and i should jsut opt for the c-section so lo isn't in any distress.

mabel - happy birthday! do you have anything planned to celebrate?

bella - good luck on scan on friday - how excited are you???!!!

mandaz · 15/05/2006 11:55

Happy birthday Mabel

compo · 15/05/2006 12:07

Morning everyone.
Welcome Roundabout Smile
Mabel - sorry to hear about your soggy trip, still think you're mad going camping again!!! Do you have a really comfy airbed?!!
Lysettes - sorry to hear you are not having a straightforward pregnancy. From my point of view I quite like the idea of a planned c-section because at least then you know when the baby will come and how it be delivered and also it would be so easy to arrange who is going to look after ds in advance. But then if it's your first you don't need to worry about that and it seems strange that round here everything is anti c-section but your consultant is the complete opposite!!

Afternoon all, going to have a quick scan through posts

congrats on your scan liquidclocks Smile (I glad I previewed as I left a letter out of your name Blush )

Welcome and congrats to a fellow yorkshire lass frazzlefairy.

Regarding epidurals they are the best lol, definatley planned for september for me Smile, the only down side for me was I had to be put on a horome drip to strengthen the contractions due to it.

Mandaz I agree woth compo if anybody poos while in labour the midwife wouldn't think anything of it, I used to be a auxilliary nurse till I had my son, and cleaned up many old and the young and never thought anything of it, they see it all the time.

Aww mabel I hope your camping trip goes better in june, my um invited us to go camping with her in a cuple of weeks with my brother too but they had only booked a adult only site lol, so we will stick to the caravan as the next chance we get i will be too big for camping imo.

Welcome and congratulations roundabout your due the day after me Smile

I'm a bit worried about not having put on much weight i have put on 4lb but I have been mesuring my waist and its definatley increasing so maybe I a loosing my own weight too

Happy Birthday Mabel73!!!! Hope you have a good day, leave the washing till tomorrow put your feet up. Grin

Full of cold here, very tickly throat not sure whether there is anything I can take to ease it.

Still having morning sickness just in the mornings when I get up early, do you think its normal? I'll mention it to the midwife next monday. My heartburn has begun, I had it all the way through from this stage to till the end with ds, old wifes tale say that if you have it then your baby will be born with a head of hair, DS had a head full Smile.

Loving feeling lo move, anybody started buying things yet? I went into woolworths at the weekend I picked up 2 baby gift sets for £5 each, they have in them a sleepsuit, bodysuit, hat, bib and scratch mittens all matching.

Sorry for waffling as usual lol
hope you are all taking care.

Marls001 · 15/05/2006 18:18

Good for you for braving the wilderness Mabel -and Happy Birthday!
I'm with Manda on how many mosquitos I could take right now ...

Still beautiful weather around 60 degrees F (16C) here ... being warned about "how hot" this summer will be .. But last pg, I was in 27+C April-to-October Houston! Grin How bad could just two months be?

Welcome Roundabout!

Sunday was our Mothers' Day!

Received a tea-maker (so I'd quit making tea in the coffee maker Grin), in a basket of assorted teas with a card from DH that said (in part) " It's amazing (but not surprising) just how wonderful a mom you've become. In a few months, our lives will change yet again. Although those first few months won't be easy, I have no doubt what kind of mom you'll be to our two sons. Of course I'll help as much as I can, and together we'll raise two "cute and happy"s." (that's DS's nickname - "cute and happy").
Whenever I get worried again about post-partum, I'll just re-read that part of the card.

mabel1973 · 15/05/2006 22:05

Girls - thanks for all your birthday wishes today!
Just been out for a meal with DH - delicious!
Marls - awwww how lovely to write something like that to you!!! Sounds like you've got a good un!

Lysettes · 16/05/2006 08:37

marls - aaaaahhhh - nearly brought me to tears, and this early in the morning!

thanks for the advice on the c-section dilemma ladies! i know it seems like it's not a straightforwrd pregnancy, but i have had the plus points - i had no sickness, and (fingers crossed now i say this) no back pain, so going through high b pressure and everything associated with it, seems a trade off to me - i would have found sickness so debilitating and totally feel for anyone who has had to go through that, and pills for it (or indeed still is going through it!)

have a great day everyone - have you heard about the standpipes threat in the south east? don't fancy being heavily pg in august queueing at a standpipe for drinking water!!!

compo · 16/05/2006 09:31

lol Lysettes!! I'm in the South East but our little bit has so far not been affected. We've got a hosepipe ban but not the full ban that Surrey has got. Although it probably won't be long in coming. Luckily I hate gardening so I'm not bothered about not being able to water the garden (or wash the car for that matter!!)

Marls - sounds like you win on the best DH award at the moment..........how cute of him!! I bet it brought a tear to your eye!!

Lysettes - glad to hear you are looking on the plus side of the c-section. As you say other symptoms you have escaped.
Yes I am in SE - so if I have to queue for water I won't be a happy bunny either!!

liquidclocks · 16/05/2006 10:47

Hello all!

Hope you ladies in the SE don't have to go through all that if it does happen - you could always move north, plenty of water here! Might be worth ringing them up and asking if pregant women can get special dispensation (or at least home delivery, don't think health and safety regs would approve of pregnant women carrying heavy loads of water) as I think people with certain medical conditons can? Worth a try - don't ask and you don't get!

Loved the mothers day message - all I got this year was an excuse that he wasn't old enough yet to buy me anything!

Spent yesterday pm having painful tightenings about every 5-10 mins for about 4 hrs, was on point of calling midwife when they eased off, only been once an hour or so since then - Anyone else had them?

homemama · 16/05/2006 14:19

Hi everyone, hope you are all well.
We have now bought the Phil&Ted pram. I'm going to start using the single part with DS straight away so he's use to it by the time the baby arrives. He loves his pram because he associates it with going to the park or the ducks so I don't want him to think the baby has come and taken his pram away.

Any recommendations for a newborn car seat? Last time we bought a M&P travel system which came with their Prima vig car seat. Whilst it was easy to click in and out of the base, it was far too upright when DS was a newborn. His head was always flopping onto his tummy. I've heard the maxi cosi one is flatter. Any ideas?

Mandaz, re the poo thing. I just told DH that that was what always happened to every woman (not strictly true) and that he'd just have to prepare himself for it. I remember it happening but I was so caught up with pain and pushing to bother and DH says that he vaguely remembers but that it happened as the head was crowning and that was far more interesting! Grin

Mind you, I painted the goriest picture I could of both childbirth and early parenthood so that the likelihood was that whatever happened, it wouldn't be as bad as he was expecting. Grin

Marls, your DH sounds wonderful! Mine is a sweetie too and sometimes leaves me post-its on the kettle with cute or sexy messages on them. Smile The most amazing thing he's ever said to me is that he loves me more since seeing me as a mother. Because of how he is, I know we'll cope whatever this pg brings.

Re the epidural thing. I wouldn't want one if I could help it as I wouldn't want to be on the bed on my back. However, labour affects different women in different ways and it should be our absolute right to access all forms of pain relief available. I didn't totally discount it the first time. It really is best to keep an open mind but I'm sure it helps some women to know that it's there if they need it.

Mabel, hope to had a lovely day yesterday! Smile
Welcome & congratulations Roundabout!

Norms, haven't seen you post for a while, hope your sickness is easing.

liquidclocks · 16/05/2006 14:34

Homemama - can't it into my car as seatbelts are just too short but I LOVED the bebeconfort creatis car seat - so flat and very padded. Also if you don't want an infant carrier type or aren't bothered the Concord Ultimax was very padded and flat and also flipped round to do the next age group up. I found both at mothercare but I'm sure they're available at plenty of other places too.

liquidclocks · 16/05/2006 14:36

sorry - should have been 'can't fit it...'

homemama · 16/05/2006 14:49

Thanks, liquidclocks.
Ideally, we'd like an isofix one that we can just click/unclick onto the backseat but the relative flatness is a big issue as it worried me sick last time. My seats tilt up from where your bum sits to where your knees are IYKWIM so that doesn't help with a rear facing carseat.

liquidclocks · 16/05/2006 14:55

I tried the maxi cosi base in my car but it didn't fit unfortunately because of buckle crunch but although not iso fix, I've now successfully fitted a graco autobaby base and seat in my car which I will use. My seats a quite sloped too and I'm told the graco ones would even fit in bucket seats! Worth a try of both probably - I did tink the maxi cosi seat was a bit more padded though. (sorry if I sound like I've tried every seat going - I think I have - spent the whole of wednesday morning last week in mothercare monopolising the staff!)

mandaz · 16/05/2006 16:03

Does the make of car make a huge difference when buying a car seat? I don't actually own a car at the moment but will be getting lifts and borrowing my Mum's car sometimes so ideally I'd need a seat that fits differenct styles of car and lifts in and out easily. Any suggestions?

liquidclocks · 16/05/2006 16:49

It's really difficult to say Mandaz - a lot of car seats will fit in a lot of cars but you just can't predict. Easiest type for moving from car to car though is an infant carrier style and I found my graco fit in most cars, especially when you have the option of a base as well. Best thing to do is borrow your mum and her car and have a trip to mothercare - they're the ONLY nationwide store that got the thumbs up from which magazine's recent survey about car seat fitting advice. They've always been really helpful in my experience anyway - just don't expect to fit anything other than a graco seat and base in a 3 door nissan micra! Wink

compo · 16/05/2006 18:31

We're going to have a look in Which to see which is the best car seat to get safety wise as some of them are not up to the standards of others. I personally hate the travel system ones because the baby is all cooped up in the car seat and then just transferred into the pram so never lies flat. They have an advert in the parenting magazines of a baby all hunched up in it's highchair looking like an old man as a result of this

OP posts:
Lysettes · 16/05/2006 18:45

i heard the maxi coxi one is very good safety and fit wise - we don't own a car yet, but are going to sort one out inthe next couple of months (dh is going through his "we must have an estate car" phase...) - Which is a great idea.

and i think i might just find out about pg women having special dispensation! we are in sw london, and just received a letter from thames water today about conserving water - after our rates have gone up by another 20 or so percent this year.... and then getting down to fulham the broadway was blocked because a burst water main was fountaining all over the road - the plus side was that the yummy firemen from fulham fire station were all wandering around BlushBlushBlush

compo · 16/05/2006 18:47

lol at fit firemen Lysettes!! Just thought, has everyone joined the Boots Mother and Baby Club? I got a booklet of vouchers through the ost today - you get a No7 item free up to the value of £16!! Also a Boots Mediterrean Pregnancy item free but I couldn't find where these were so need to go back and have a proper look!! Then later on you get a free Huggies changing bag with stuff in it I think

liquidclocks · 16/05/2006 19:18

Last word on car seats from me (promise!) - DON'T buy the carry cot types - they're useless in a crash and put babies at serious risk of injury or death - just watch a crash test video, it's frightening.

Anyone made up their minds yet on names - now I know the sex I think I should name him! Any thoughts on Elliot, Thomas, Samuel or Alec? I just can't choose...!

Coriander73 · 16/05/2006 19:25

Hi all,

Re car seats...due to the business I'm in I pretty much know the ins & outs of all the major brands etc. I have a maxi cosi citi car seat which has been fantastic ( & have since upgraded to the Priori since DD was 9 months ish) but always used a pram (so she could lie flat)when she was a baby. In my opinion, babies need to lie flat not sit couped up in the car seat / travel systems for the first few months. I'd also recommend Britax & Concord.

Had check up today..all seems well. I'm convinced it's another girl just because the pg from the beg seems to be the same way it was with DD...except not throwing up as much..nice!!!
