nez · 04/04/2006 11:07

Morning all!
I 'm off work from next week too. But, I've only worked part time recently and also have option to continue working if I feel I want to. Lucky really, but skint!
Finally had really good night's sleep and it's made all the difference. Also had early morning stroll, lush crisp weather. Looking forward to pram walks too and will have little poppet to talk to!
Backache and shooting pains etc have got me thinking about labour pain, the different stages and how to try to cope! If this little episode had left me in tears, i shall be a right wuss in labour! Still, 'looking forward' to the expereince! Is there a separate thread for tips and Q's about labour?
Waiting in for delivery and workman on day like this..typical! But it's baby stuff, so..

runtus · 04/04/2006 14:40

Made a start on the meals for the freezer today (working from home is sooo good!), 1x curry, 1x spag bol and 1x cottage pie done and in the freezer so far..............going to get some freezer bags tomorrow cos I only have so much tupperware and I want to get loads done if I can.

Trying to fill the freezer with decent meals that we can just defrost and heat through, once the baby arrives.......attempt to limit the take away mountain that is headed our way!

nez · 04/04/2006 16:18

OOh, that's made me feel very hungry! Could eat all that now. When are you due, Runtus? I should start doing the same. Have made lots of extra portions, but by the time they've cooled down for freezer my hubby or I want to scoff the lot. Will try more self control.

cori · 04/04/2006 18:33

Good for you nez, i think might do a bit of that next week. I finally have a crib, mattress and chest of drawers for baby. Havent decided on pram yet as cant find one I like. Have a sling though so its not that important. Also have old one in garage which could be used in an emergency. mmm better go look at it i suppose.

Isnt it great that spring has finally arrived. Everyone keeps telling me that May is a great time to have a baby. I have just planted some new grass seeds so hopefully we will have lush garden to dream away the summer days Smile

Just wondering do we have a stats thread for May. I dont really know who is due when

Seashells · 04/04/2006 18:46

Hi all,

Haven't logged on for ages. Due 1st May, which some days feels so close and others a lifetime away!

Was hoping for a homebirth or at least a water birth at the hospital but as my iron is too low I've been refused, so abit fed up with that really.

Went and bought the pushchair today, a double one as my dd is still just gone 2, so me and dp have been playing around with that all afternoon. Everything is all ready, and it's just waiting now...

I'm getting so impatient now though, every little twinge I get I think 'oh is this it', even though I still have 4 weeks left! I hope I don't go past my due date!

I can't wait to have a summer baby, the other 2 were born in winter so it'll be lovely to get out for nice sunny walks with the new one Smile

runtus · 05/04/2006 08:56

I know it sounds silly but I am actually a bit jealous of all those due before me.........does that make sense? I hate waiting for anything and now we are pretty much ready for the baby - IO just want it to come now!!

How am I going to last until the end of May without going stark raving raving mad????

cori · 05/04/2006 09:24

OK, I cant find a stats thread anywhere so have started one myself . Leave details here \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?rn=99074&topicid=2290&threadid=161754&redir=99074\here}

Seashells · 05/04/2006 09:35

I know what you mean runtus, I have 3 friends who are all due mid-end april and I so want mine first. One had a false alarm the other day and I thought, if she had it now, the next 4 weeks would feel like an eternity waiting for ours to arrive! I'm the most impatient person at the best of times!

nez · 05/04/2006 10:10

Morning! Have done a bit of weeding and treated lawn. People tell me how lucky a May baby is - we didn't plan it that way!
DH cannot believe what a faff getting pram was. We had to get one that fitted in tiny boot of Yaris so have a Bebe Confort. Think it looks kind of weird and futuristic, but seems sturdy and we got a special deal on it on internet.

Am gettting very excited, nervous, impatient etc. Did pain relief at NCT class last night. Have dreaded feeling that some emergency will happen and will have to go to hospital. ( Do have rational reason for being scared of them though). Hard to imagine the pain if never experienced it. Must keep positive, cool, calm and collected! ARGH - that didn't last long!

lovecloud · 05/04/2006 10:49

Hello

I am feeling very impatient too but want baby to stay inside until due date so he or she is nice and healthy.

I really feel like I am going to start labour in the next couple of weeks - god knows why but I suddenly feel like I have to get everything done even down to the silliest things like certain storage boxes I want. I have lots of energy and dream about baby every night, last night in my dream I was trying to get baby to latch on correctly!!! - yikes!!!!!!!!!!!

I have dropped and baby is engaged and I have 4 weeks to go yet! Normally second babies dont engage until labour but mine is so down there that I pee every 15 mins some hours which makes it hard to go anywhere and its not the usual urge to go but "I GOTTA GO - NOW!!!!!!!!!!" I run to the loo holding myself :) I have been checked to see if have any infections but I doc said im fine.

I am trying to enjoy my time off before my days get incredibly busy but because we are so close, does everyone else find that nothing else much interests you? I just daydream about baby baby baby :)

nez · 05/04/2006 11:42

Yes, Lovecloud! Whatever Spring cleaning/ sorting madness I have it's all to get ready for babe. Also, keep popping to computer to look at MN when i should be doing other stuff...want to talk babies too! ( My poor family must be getting bored of me...)

sniff · 05/04/2006 15:38

I seem to have ages to go compared to some especially you HOckeymom my last 2 were really late as well but for some reason I am sure this baby is going to be early I am nowhere near as big as with the other 2 so I dont know why but I seem in a panic to get everything done!!! I daydream baby as well but as its my third I am trying not to talk about it to much I think they think I have gone mad cant wait to see my crib up!!!

I am so pleased spring has sprung it makes me feel so much better

runtus · 06/04/2006 09:08

Ugggh had my worst nights sleep so far last night. Think I must have been awake for at least 3/4 of the night trying to get vaguely comfortable and then when I did I needed the loo........does anyone else get a really sore feeling across the top of their bump? I have had it on and off for about a week and it kind of feels like a heartburn type feeling but is more muscular and has nothing to do with food (if that makes sense!). In my hours of laying there last night I decided it felt like the baby has a stubbly chin and is rubbing it against the inside of me!

I had it really bad last week but I thought I had a stomach bug or something becuase it sort of cured itself after I went running to the loo........but now unless I have the same biug again, it must be something else.

oh, I am sooo uncomfortable,

fenny1 · 06/04/2006 11:23

Sun is still shining in Cornwall Smile
It is my last day at work Grin, was meant to go on til next Thursday but am too knackered.
Runtus - how organisesd are you? Freezing all these meals? You have inspired me!
DP bought me a HUGE pillow that is shaped like a staple (!) You put your head on the top bit, the long bit hugs your back and the bottom bit comes through your knees. It is heaven, can't recommend it enough.
Got go ahead for homebirth yesterday, v nice consultant who is a woman and a mum and was supportive and honest. Excited but worried that I may have the first contraction and go running to hospital, but if I do at least it is my choice.
Not keen on the 'rummaging' feeling of babys hands down low!!

runtus · 06/04/2006 11:40

Happy last day at work!

lovecloud · 06/04/2006 13:47

fenny1 - know that feeling, very odd :)

sometimes it feels like baby is also trying to crawl around to my back!!!

what a glorious day - spring is just the perfect time to have babies!

so refreshinh - ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

wish i had a garden to sit in.

louismummy · 06/04/2006 17:28

runtus that made me laugh.... stubbly chin Grin

louismummy · 06/04/2006 17:30

I too had a pants night sleep. Midwife thinks it may be breach so have got to go to hospital for scan next week. spd better since seeing an osteopath for 5 weeks or so... I so tired now let alone when number 2 arrives..

Mandymoo · 06/04/2006 20:55

Fenny - i'm in Cornwall too! Whereabouts r u?

alicats · 07/04/2006 12:38

Hiya All

Sorry not been on here very much recently, have been on such an emotomotional rollercoaster lately but I have been reading all your posts and keeping up to date with how everyone is feeling.

Heres an update on me:-

I've given up work now, as I couldn't cope with the pressure I was being put under much longer, am now nearly 36 weeks so not long to go, this is a first for me as my dd was born at 30 weeks. Bump is in the breech position so its looking likely a c sect but we have to wait and see what the consultant says next week, I really would like to try for a VBAC if I can so feel very much in limbo at the mo. Been going to antenatal classes both nhs & nct and they are good, met some real lovely people through them. Also found out that my mum has C about a month ago and she appears to be declining rapidly and I can't get to see her (she lives about 80 miles away) which is driving me crazy as shes had radium, chest infection etc I have been advised to keep away. My real worry is that she will not make it for the birth, that will be really dificult for me but I'm hoping that there is a miricle around the corner.

I too am not sleeping just can't seem to get comfortable with the amount of heatburn / cramp I'm getting plus I'm anemic at the mo, but I making sure I'm eating lots of iron filled foods inc dark chocolate.Wink

I've tried everything for the heartburn but it seems to be getting worst, so now carrying a bottle of gaviscon around with me and slipping it when I need to, also trying almonds as these as supposed to help aswell. Thats enough about me for now. I'm off to pack my hospital bags and make sure I've got everything.

Take Care all of you and look after yourselves & your bumps xx

lovecloud · 07/04/2006 14:45

Hello Alicats!

So sorry to hear your mum is ill. I would be distruaght if I were you, so you have not been able to get to her at all? Is there no way you could go and spend a few days with her?

I hope things work out for you.

I was told I was breech the other week and looked into the possibility of having a vaginal birth. I was told me hospital do allow mothers to have a vaginal birth with a breech birth if they have already had a vaginal birth before. This tells them that the birth canal is wide enough.

I think a doctor has to deliver the baby and you would be monitored throughout so it would not be a very "active" labour but if like me you are frightened of c-sections then I would of definitely give it a go.

If you can afford it or someone offers to treat you, you should go for a reflexology session to help you relax with all the stress you are going through. Could even help with your heartburn.

Take care
x

tortoiseshell · 07/04/2006 21:43

Alicats - sorry to hear your news. Hope things turn out ok...(hug)

I just want this baby out now. I'm fed up, the size of a house (or so I feel), can't walk upstairs without baby scrabbling in my pelvis, can hardly reach the keyboard of the computer, heartburn is awful, waking up at night, can't get comfy in bed, BH loads of the time.

I'd forgotten how s*t the end of pregnancy is! And just to top it all off it's the school hols, so ds is at home all day. Took him and dd swimming today, dd had huge nosebleed in pool, ended up covered in blood, 2 wet and cold children, me waddling round in the changing room.

Sometimes I think men should have their paternity leave BEFORE the baby is born! (Not that dh gets any Angry but I guess he'll take the day it's born off).

Can you tell I'm fed up? Oh well, 38 weeks on Sunday, can't be TOO long to go!

squidgeymiller · 09/04/2006 11:14

Hi all, so sad to hear about your Mum Alicats. As if you don't have enough on your mind already! I hope she recovers from her chest infection quickly so you can go visit her.

I'm now 37 wks and baby is still breech. Had an appt with my consultant for a scan on Wednesday but neither she nor my MW were available so I saw a different Dr who couldn't do a scan, and just gave me my basic options for birth. As it's my 1st they don't recommend normal labour. We decided to try for an ECV next week but none of the Drs at my hospital who can do ECVs are in next week so we would have to wait until I'm nearly 39 wks prg for this. Due to the extra risks involved (i.e. that it can bring on spontaneous labour at 37 wks and can cause baby to go into distress + mean you need emerg c-sec) I don't really want to try an ECV this late (also because baby will obviously be almost fully-cooked and pretty big, making it even more uncomfortable than usual). My MW was supposed to call us Fri to give us appt dates for poss ECV / elective c-section, but didn't so I have to call Monday to chase her up. Have another appt booked with my consultant this Weds, not sure why as don't what more they'll be able to do / say if my only option is c-section if baby still breech, but I'm playing along anyway.

You can probably tel I'm feeling a bit let down at the mo. Has also freaked DH out, as really hates the idea of me having to have a c-section and scaring etc..... I'm sure you won't even be able to see the scar in amongst the multitude of stretch marks I now have!

Am just really concerned about the recovery time after a c-section. How long does it really take?

Re raspberry tea - can't remember who asked but the reason for taking it is that it can help to tone up your uteran muscles, meaning that your labour is quicker as they're more efficient and your contractions will generally be stronger.

Finished work on Friday and am VERY relieved to have a few weeks off before I'm due. My hospital's policy on c-sections is to do them at 39 wks, so should still have at least 1-2 wks to enjoy before baby gets here!

Hope you're all well and enjoying the lovely weather today!
Grin

squidgeymiller · 09/04/2006 11:14

sorry such a long post !! Blush

tortoiseshell · 09/04/2006 12:53

Hi squidgeymiller - sorry baby isn't co-operating - if it's any reassurance, I believe they don't do ECV before 37-38 weeks anyway, because before then the baby might turn breech again anyway - the later it is, the less room for the baby to mess around in! My friend had one at 39 weeks, and hers was a 10lb10 baby! It's not comfortable, but I imagine it's worth trying to avoid a CS!

Good luck whatever you decide!
