Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
runtus · 17/05/2006 10:34

Is nausea a sign then?? God I hope so!

Determind to keep busy as I'm hoping it will keep things moving along (if indeed, they are moving) so have a long list of light jobs to do today.

Just spent 20 mins cleaning the pushchair as it has been in the garage since we bought it in the Jan sales.......absolutely filthy! Trying to remind myself how the damn thing works now too, blimey it's complex!

sniff · 17/05/2006 10:41

Hi runtus I have felt sick for days now and the bump has dropped and engaged I am going to beg my consultant to put me out of my misery today I can hardly do anything without being sick or falling asleep
prams get more complicated every time I have a carrycot to this time and still havnt made sure the blankets fit!!
spending far to much time worrying about tempting fate and holding my baby I think I cant tidy any more than I have I am sick of it now

I have just read this back how mardy do I sound!!!!

runtus · 17/05/2006 10:46

When were/are you due Sniff?? Not sure I can cope with a week of sickness.............really hoping it all gets shifting soon.

bubbles28 · 17/05/2006 10:53

Runtus Sounds like things might be moving for you..... don'y overdo the list if jobs just in case you need that energy later!!!!!

Have just seen Doctor as MW was fully booked, quite pointless really especially as she isn't my Doctor and has no idea about what has been happening with me during the Pregnancy.... she gave me the VERY useful advice that I should rest after lunch(!!???)..... maybe I shouldn't do the Marathon I was planning this afternoon!!!!!Wink
Didn't sleep very well last night as my mind was too busy so feel a bit rough today.....

Hope you're all well xx

runtus · 17/05/2006 11:00

I'll try and reserve some energy Bubbles, but too scared everything will stop if I do! Have to keep moving...............I will so regret it later I know Grin

Didn't sleep too well last night either actually, seem to have one night on and one night off at the moment. Was awake from 4 and finally got up at 6am, as I was driving myself mad lying there. Why won't my brain switch off?! Normally I can't get it to turn on!

mummyhill · 17/05/2006 12:18

Sniff - Hugs to you sweetheart.

TheIncubator · 17/05/2006 12:23

Hi everyone. I hope you're all well. Haven't been on in a while and also haven't managed to catch up on the thread since mid April! Apologies upfront as this is going to be a long one...

My little chap decided he wanted out on Wed 19th April (at 34.5 weeks) - apparently he couldn't wait until May 28th! As you can imagine I was a bit concerned. My waters broke at about 2pm and we got to hospital (John Radcliffe in Oxford) at about 3pm, finally gave birth at 9.15pm so nice and short as far as I'm concerend. I was starting to have contractions and back ache by the time I got to hospital. The first doc that saw me said that I wasn't dilated at all, then she did an internal and said that I was 8cm dilated!! As you can imagine I was a bit dubious about her (although I have to say that if I was 8cm this was going to be a doddle!). When they took me down to the labour room the midwife said that I was actually 3cm dilated which was much more realistic.

I have to say that I had a fantastic experience. My midwife was a real sweetie. And all the other staff that were involved were great, including the midwives on the labour ward. Unfortunately I had a seizure in early labour - my other half pressed the panic button and apparently it was like a SWAT team turning up, people rushing in from all directions! For some unknown reason they decided to put in a canula whilst I was having the seizure (pretty difficult to hit a moving target I would have thought), that was almost the most uncomfortable part of my experience and they wouldn't take it out for ages!

I managed to get most of the way through labour on gas and air but towards the end I decided that I wanted an epidural. Apparently I then had a bit of a rest and a snooze for about a couple of hours (!) and then I got on with the business at hand and pushed him out in about 20 mins. :) Had a 2nd degree tear but the midwife who stitched me up did a really good job and I was sitting down fairly comfortably in a couple of days and only took paracetamol/codine for about 3 days.

The baby went into intensive care as he was so premature but he was moved into the special care baby unit (fattening room rather than needing intensive care). They let me stay in hospital for 10 days so that I could spend as much time with him as possible and provide breast milk etc. After 10 days they chucked me out as I'm not allowed to be under midwife care after that. By this time he was nearly ready to come home as he had achieved his birth weight. We had to spend a night in the 'flat' which is a room in the hosp before they'd let us take him home. We've now been at home for approx 2 weeks and he seems to be doing really well, gaining approx an oz a day and is now 7lb 2oz (was 5lb 13oz when he was born which was quite a good weight).

My dh is now back at work but we've had his parents and my parents helping out so that we can get some rest. I have to say that I think we're really lucky as he seems to be quite a contented baby and only crys when he's hungry. We're doing a mixture of breast and bottle (with breast milk) feeding and he doesn't have a problem with switching between the two even on the same feed so I'd definitely recommend introducing the bottle early. Poor chap had to have a tube at first, which he hated and kept pulling out, so I guess anything is preferable to that! I'd also really recommend something called a Slumber Bear which is a battery powered unit in a cuddly toy which makes a whooshing noise which is apparently similar to the noise in the womb. The unit can be taken out of the toy - we've got it hanging on the moses basket at the mo. It really works a treat and settles him down if he starts to get restless.

TheIncubator · 17/05/2006 12:25

Got a question for you...

We still haven't decided on a name - or should I say that I still haven't agreed on a name. My hd is really keen on the name Monty but I'm not fully convinced. What do you think...?

sniff · 17/05/2006 13:23

Congratulations Incubator x

I like the name Monty actually its nice

I am pleased you had a good birth experience evn though he was early and that his weight is now ok

Runtus not due till 26th but just think this one is going to be early dont know why or if its just wishful thinking

louismummy · 17/05/2006 13:29

not long to decide now for your 6 weeks!! My friends little boy is called monty , i like it. but whatever name you give them after a while it just seems normal.

Asur · 17/05/2006 13:33

Good luck to those of you still waiting... I have to say, I'm in a little discomfort just now from my section and it's really frustrating not being able to lift things but it's so much better than those last few weeks of pregnancy! I think it must be nature's way of you getting over the pain of labour etc coz you're just so glad to be more comfortable than you were at the end lugging that big bump about! :)

Congrats to TheIncubator. Although he arrived early it definately sounds like he's doing well which is always good. Tough call about the name though - we had picked names months ago so we were all sorted. After Hamish arrived, we did wonder if he looked like his name but we figured we couldn't go through the decision making process again so he'll just have to like our original choice! It's such a responsibility though - good luck with it. You'll find the right name soon enough, it'll just occur to you, I'm sure!

momamia · 17/05/2006 13:53

Congratulations to the TheIncubater on the birth of your son, i'm glad you had a nice experience with your labour and birth.

runtus - my belly has dropped too, i keep getting belly ache and going to the toliet so i'm hoping that something is going to happen, fingers crossed. :)

runtus · 17/05/2006 14:28

Congrats on 'Monty' - I think its a fab name!

Had a 2 hour nap and fee loads better now, really hoping it wasn't all wishful thinking this morning now though!

hockeymum · 17/05/2006 16:26

Congratulations on the birth of your little man TheIncubator! You Win! - you were the first! Just pipping AbiGilby and me to the post by 2 and 3 days! If you have a couple of names that you like then why not calling the baby that name for the day and see how it feels. Just an idea, but that comes from the lady who called her son Theo a couple of weeks before they announced that the new England footie star is Theo and I think every little Wayne or something will be called Theo this year and it will be a very common name indeed! Heigh Ho, that'll teach me to be such a snob! Good luck with the name choice and well done on your lovely baby boy!

Good Evening Ladies!!!! Don't know if it's Runtus' fault (sorry!!!!!) but have been feeling rough all afternoon absoluely exhausted and sicky, I thought eating would help but it hasn't.... maybe things are starting to happen or maybe I'm just tired!!!!! I have a Reflexology appointment tomorrow morning and I'm really looking forward to it, hopefully it will encourage things to happen, if not I'm sure it'll make me feel lovely.Wink

AbiGilby · 17/05/2006 21:29

Congratulations TheIncubator. Your boy was a good weight – he actually weighed more than my DS, who arrived bang on 38 weeks. I’m so glad all worked out well.

inkyminky · 17/05/2006 21:35

Baby InkyMinky arrived yesterday at 8am, 6lb 11oz little Boy (still to be named) went in at 5am after spending a while at home so not long in the labour room Grin will post full details on B.announcements when I have a second to take it all in as has been a whirlwind! Home already. Sending best wishes and luck to those still expecting.

fenny1 · 17/05/2006 21:42

Waters broke half five this afternoon. No other activity at all. Ho Hum.....

fenny1 · 18/05/2006 08:09

Still no action......

nez · 18/05/2006 08:40

OOh Fenny. Excited for you. If there's no action will you have to go into hospital soon? You know you're having baby soon though. Best of luck.

Here: Lots of BH's, have done a poo (wow, that's unusual), hot curry last night and clary sage bath... And was just jiggin away to Beyonce on TV (what a sight)! But slept soo well that I'd be chuffed if the chubba arrived today. Saw MW and have been told 2 other homebirths are overdue, so could I keep legs crossed please! She said all well and signs are good. BH's could be pre-labour pains.

Incubator. Congrats!!! say Monty with surname to see if it really suits. Couldn't have some of my faves as they sound silly with surname.

My 'meditation' yesterday was a bit pants. Did about 3 mins and just couldn't focus. 100% baby obsessed mad woman at mo'. Best wishes to all!

nez · 18/05/2006 08:51

Fenny - just noticed the time difference in your posts. Hope you're OK.
Think I'm gonna look back at these past few weeks and laugh and cry. I'm a bit sad knowing all the excitement of pregnancy will soon be over. Thanks for being here MNetters! Really has cheered me up no end and helped me stay focussed. Wink

sniff · 18/05/2006 08:54

congratulations inky minky that didnt take long hope you are feeling well

Fenny every thing crossed for you

I had a consutants appointment yesterday did internal I am 1 cm dilated but not much else so I was unfavourable for an early induction have to go back next week unless it all starts really dont remember all this uncomfyness with the last two felt ok right up until labour
Trying to decide if packing my bag would be tempting fate and I will just trip over it several times!!

thebecster · 18/05/2006 09:32

Many many congrats to inky minky, incubator & all who have their babies! Cant believe it's only a week and a half 'til I'm due. It's all becoming a bit too real now... I'm getting nervous!

My nausea is actually better than it's been all pregnancy, so if feeling sick is a sign, I'm miles off. I'm still being sick in the mornings, but for the past week I've been feeling okay in the afternoons, which is the first time I haven't felt nauseous since September 2005! I've now got a bad hip tho' so walking has become really painful - there's allus summat, eh? MW appointment today - hoping to hear that he's moved down a bit. Good luck everyone!

plama · 18/05/2006 09:55

Hello Everybody

To Becster - Hang on in there! I feel sooo sorry for you as I had horrific hyperemesis too with both my pregnancies, but it got better by 20 weeks. I don't know how I would have coped vomiting until the very end. You are very brave . It'll all be worth it very soon ( and you do forget after a while quite how awful it was)

I am fed up not sleeping, and gave up last night and came downstairs to watch c**p TV at 4 in the morning. Have got stinking cold too ( moan moan - sorry!)Have tried to book reflexology as has been suggested but no appointments available in the next week ( and am due on Sat!)Oh well!
Congratulations to all the new mums.

momamia · 18/05/2006 09:56

Inkyminky - congratulations of the birth of you baby, and well done with the labour, its sounds like you had a really short labour. :)

Fenny1 - Good luck with your labour and birth, i hope its a wonderful experience for you, fingers crossed you'll have your baby in your arms very soon. :)

Sniff - lets hope your contractions start soon aswell, i'm really excited for you.:)

I've now got 5 days to go, still no braxton hicks, no show, no nothing, i'm beginning to wonder whether my baby wants to come out!!
I've got my MW appointment this afternoon, so will post more info then.

Once again, good luck ladies, i'll be thinking of you. XXXX
