I'm not on the list, due 3rd April with DC2. I'll add me when I'm feeling more patient to cut and paste :)

PiL took DD this afternoon, which was a relief as I could pootle about and also chill and read my book for a bit. The nausea is constant, the trapped wind is driving me insane, such bad cramps, ughh. Had afternoon sickness with DD and no trapped wind.

I've just gone back to the folic acid supplement rather than the pregnacare multivitamin supplements. They made me really constipated and I'm sure it's the cause of this trapped wind.

I craved fishfinger butties when pg with DD and I dislike fish. Nothing yet with this pg.

Not a 50 shades baby, not my cup of tea either. More Urban Fantasy like Jim Butcher and Ilona Andrews for me.

No early scan for me either. We are camping in Dorset for best part of next week. Booking in appt on the 11th Sept, no date for scan yet, spoke to mw on the phone and she has sent off the paperwork for the scan.

Hey ladies, great to have a new thread. Welcome to the newbies, it looks like an April baby boom!

Big congrats Pont and Magic, you must be so relieved.

Love PUPO! That's cheered me up no end as I still have an almost complete lack of symptoms, apart from feeling more tired and having a big appetite. Not sure if appetite is a symtptom as I see lots of ladies have the opposite.

Through my endleess knicker checking I've also noticed extra moisture, good to know others have the same.

EmpressMatilda · 29/08/2012 20:30

Magictorch I had a similar thing. Doctor's surgery 'don't deal with pregnancy' so I was referred to ante-natal clinic and didn't get an appointment until I was 7 weeks (because they thought I was 9 weeks). I still had to nag for it. They only offer 1.15 or 2.30 Mon-Fri which for someone who works full time in a different city a 45 minute train journey away is far from ideal but thankfully my employer was nice about it. In the end I did get an early scan (in another city altogether...) but only because of my spotting, otherwise the 12 week one in late September would have been my first. I find it all a bit odd and frustrating but it seems fairly standard. Everyone I've dealt with has been great, just the rules that suck!

EmpressMatilda · 29/08/2012 20:35

kellestar That's interesting about pregnacare. I have been taking them and I am also suffering badly from the trapped wind constipation issue. Hadn't occurred to me there might be a link. Hmmm... See, I am learning lots of things from MN already!

Also, what are people's views on Berocca? I have a bad cold and am really tired and I've got a busy few days coming up. Normally I'd reach for the Berocca but I'm not sure whether it's safe. Can't see that it has vitamin A in it and of course their website says it's fine!

sugarfiend · 29/08/2012 20:47

Hi again Ladies, things have been pretty uneventful since I last popped by for the most part but I had my booking-in apt with the midwife this morning Grin She's referred me for the scan already too so now all I have to do is wait for the date, argh - it seems like forever away!

I still haven't quite got my head around the fact that I'll be needing a midwife!

You've all got me thinking with all this talk of moisture.

Possibly going into far tmi here... but...
I actually noticed that even since before AF was even due I've been much dryer than usual - pretty much completely dry - as I'm, ahem, usually generally quite moist down there with discharge etc. Blush

I'd just assumed that this was normal - I'm only 6+4 now, did the moistness start for you ladies later, or has it been like this from the start?

kellestar I've been taking the superdrugs own version of pregnacare (I remember checking the packs and there didn't seem to be any big diference) but that has definitely been causing wind etc for me. I've found the biggest thing that helps is really eating and drinking plenty while I take it (rather than with more of a snack like I was at first). I've also switched to having it with my evening meal, which seems to have helped. It doesn't seem as bad when I'm at home and can move around, get comfy whenever I want, when compared to being in work and having to pretend nothing is wrong.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 29/08/2012 21:03

Wow, I'm so pleased everyone else has commented on their 'dampness' as I've been dealing with the same. Doesn't help much when you're already on high-alert knicker watching! Cue even more trips to the loo!

Is anyone else suffering only at specific times of the day? I can go through a full day at work feeling generally OK (a little tired), but as soon as it gets to about 6-7pm I feel absolutely dreadful. So many times, including tonight I've cooked a meal, really looking forward to it then having to get DH to finish cooking and eat alone while I go and sit in a dark room :(

enjay0811 · 29/08/2012 21:38

Hello lovely ladies! Havnt felt so tired today, made it till about 3pm without feelin like I needed a nap in work! Sickness still there and starving though.

Got my early scan 2moro. So far this week I've been having the following dreams -

  • no baby and I've imagined the whole thing
  • 3 heartbeats
  • I'm really like 5 mths (prob cos I look like I've eaten all the pies in Gregg's) and have got drunk, eaten crap and drunk enough coffee to sink a ship, all without knowing I was pregnant and now I've horribly harmed the baby!

This is normal yeah?! No more spotting since Sunday n no pains but can't help worrying!

Oh, love PUPO btw! Lol

spidermanspiderman · 29/08/2012 22:09

Had to have a siesta today! Poor dh had to send me to bed, then he woke me up for dinner and I couldn't touch it.

That's really interesting about the pregnacare. I have been having real issues with wind.

CamelKnees · 29/08/2012 23:13

Have also stopped taking pregnacare as I got really constipated taking it with DD and seems to be doing the same again....

HaveALittleFaith · 30/08/2012 07:37

Marking my place, will read back! Forgot we'd got a new thread! Confused

FactOfTheMatter · 30/08/2012 08:57

I think it's the iron content in pregnacare that makes you constipated - taking it with fresh orange juice can help, i think.

trying2bpos · 30/08/2012 09:11

Morning all
Just sneaking in a quick one before I get on with some work!

Hmm I hadn't thought it might be the pregnacare causing constipation and wind just thought it was one of those lovely pg symptoms.

I'm the same IfAt re: tiredness in the early evening and often just as I sit down to eat have a few mouthfuls and then have to go and lie down, sometimes I feel I could stay there for the rest of the night!

sugarfiend you've time yet it started quite recently for me!

Got over my unpg gums mainly down to DH looking at me like I was insane and no one else commenting on it. Both a sure sign you're losing the plot!

I have another scan next week which is the same time I found out I'd had a missed mc last time so v.nervous about it. Better than finding out at the antenatal appt though, I think?

PinkFondantFancy · 30/08/2012 09:15

dandelion i think we're at almost exactly the same stage and my sickness is suddenly a lot better today. I'm trying to stay calm about it, as I remember a similar panic with DD and then it came back with a vengeance.....

enjay0811 · 30/08/2012 09:42

Had my early scan this morning and all is fine! Phew! Now just got to get to 40 12 weeks to stop worrying so much.

Btw, pregnacare used to make my sickness worse with dc1 so been takin sainsburys own 'mum and bump' supplements this time which have been fine. They're also only £3 for 30 and 3 for 2 atm!

steph2412 · 30/08/2012 09:46

Hi enjay congrats on scan i just wondered was it private or on nhs?

BonaDea · 30/08/2012 09:48

I haven't had any problems with constipation, but I thought that was definitely one the common symptoms of pg... Guess, if you suspect pregnacare it is worth swapping brands to find out. Someone else recommended the Sanatogen version.

Giddypants · 30/08/2012 10:20

Morning ladies, with the knicker moistness I think I started around 7 weekish, still feeling really ill all day, I have my booking in appointment on the 14 sept, think I'll be 11+2 do you think they will be able to organise a 12 weeks scan in under a week, and what about the nuchal scan? Do they do that at the same time? Or is it a separate scan?
I had a private nuchal scan with DS think it was around £90 but it has gone up to £200! But now our NHS offers it but it know it has to be done between 12-14 weeks oh this is all so confusing.
DS I'd 4 on Sunday, where has the time gone? So entertaining family with morning sickness and the increadable tiredness is going to be impossible

toobreathless · 30/08/2012 11:35

hello all!

I have an early (private) scan this evening so hope to have a proper due date soon. I have already had one NHS scan at 6 weeks and seen a heartbeat but I had already paid for the private one! Always nice to see the baby though :)

Hoping they won't mind DD coming along. They did at EPAU and were very politely told there was no other option. We moved up here (York) from Hampshire and know no one to have DD. Husband is forces and was busy flying a plane! I did offer to wait around the corner to avoid upsetting other women but they refused that too. FFS.

Having a little dilemnia about staying with a friend this weekend whose DS has chicken pox. Have given up trying to limit my exposure at work as I know I'm immune. But it seems silly to deliberately expose me and DD. Going to think a bit more about that one!

enjay lovely to hear about your scan. Its such a relief isn't it.

Hoping everyone else is having a good, worry and nausea free day!

steph2412 · 30/08/2012 12:45

Hi just wondered how r people getting early scans on nhs?

aufaniae · 30/08/2012 12:55

The doc said he'd book me in for an early scan as I had a notch on an artery in my womb last time.

However he was in a big rush, and I'm not sure really why he's giving me an early scan. The notch was picked up on a doppler scan (after dodgy blood results) not the standard kind of scan, so I'm not quite sure what the early scan is for?! Confused

He's referred me to the midwives and I'll ask them when I see them.

EssexWelsh · 30/08/2012 13:12

I had mine as was bleeding and went to EPAU and they sent me for a scan.

growyourown77 · 30/08/2012 13:12

steph i had an ectopic pregnancy last year, so it's pretty routine after that.

trying2bpos · 30/08/2012 13:12

Giddypants make sure the MW knows you want the nuchal doing so they can get you in in time (can you phone her?). They should be able to do it with your regular scan at antenatal clininc (they did mine at least) I think they just need to get a good piccie so they can take some measurements of the nuchal fold.

toobreathless that is terrible about the DD and EPAU as if you weren't stressed enough. I mean if you don't have any kids it can be a bit upsetting seeing other peoples esp. if you've had some bad news. I always used to think (before DS born) at least these people have managed to have children so maybe there's still hope for me. Surely if you're paying they won't mind her coming along, is she old enough to understand what's going on?

steph I got my very first early scan on NHS by being referred to EPAU from the out of hours doctor on the weekend at the hospital as I had a suspected MC (confirmed at the scan unfortunately). My own GP didn't even know they could do scans that early!!!!!!!!! After 2nd MC I got referred to recurrent MC clinic and they offer early scans for reassurance which is how I've had one this time around.

Congrats enjay great news. Thanks for tip on own brand vits too will have to look for those.

aufaniae · 30/08/2012 13:19

Can I ask about downs screening?

Last time we got a high risk for downs (1 in 17 IIRC) but I'm sure it was from a blood test not the nuchal fold measurement. My memory is a little hazy but I think they did both a measurement and took blood.

In the end it turned out that the dodgy blood result was due to a notch on my artery, which meant not enough blood was getting to the baby. This was easily treated.. but I suspect this would not have been discovered without the bloods being taken.

But I'm getting the impression that many hospitals just do the nuchal fold and don't take blood for downs screening. Is this right?

trying2bpos · 30/08/2012 13:36

aufaniae I think they also take your age into consideration in the equation as well as the bloods and scan. I think the MW gives you all this info at your booking appt, if not ask her. In my experience your age gives you one risk factor then this is altered depending upon the result of the nuchal fold and bloods. My risk went down after the bloods and nuchal were taken into consideration (but I'm old!). Fingers crossed the same thing happens this time around, another thing to worry about huh!
I can have a look in my pg book from NHS when i get home later if you like but I'm guessing you've proably got a similar book to look at too?
