good luck teapig let us know how you get on when you've a minute.

leluella · 13/09/2012 09:54

Morning ladies,

I'm 10+1 and still have no news about my scan..is anyone else in the same situtation? There seems to be a lot of talk about scan dates and I worried that I've not heard. I've had 2 GP appointmnets so far, the last one was just over a week a go when my GP said she would refer me to antenatal and to wait for my appointment. Also a little concerned as I'm on holiday when I am at 12 weeeks and if the appt comes through at short notice I'll have to reschedule and will be pushed back another week...thinking maybe of calling the hospital directly this seems to have worked for a few of you.

somewherebecomingrain · 13/09/2012 10:36

re nuchal from what i can gather on mumsnet when that test says you have a chance of having a downs syndrome child you often don't have one and the amnio clears that up.

i don't know much more than that.

i'm also angsting away about it cause over 40.

camel it does sound like your anxiety is just because you've kind of had your face rubbed in it. I've had my siblings and close friends go through missed miscarriages, stillbirths and terminations at 20 weeks and i remain the most paranoid person about pregnancy ever - but actually medically my first pregnancy was a breeze - couldn't have gone better (my awful mood, sickness, fatigue and sore feet were another matter).

xx

trying2bpos · 13/09/2012 10:53

somewhere I know what you mean.
And when you've seen people go through that and had mcs and a mmc (albeit before 12 wk) yourself it's hard to enjoy being pg without worrying constantly and if I'm not worrying I almost feel sort of guilty.

Same as you too looking back my first pg went really well but at the time I was a nervous wreck and I remember still googling every twinge and niggle even when my mat leave had started. I feel bitter about that now but hindsight is a wonderful thing!

I am determined to be more laidback and philosophical this time Hmm so you can only begin to imagine what I was like then! Didn't have you lovely ladies to chat too then though!

Teapig · 13/09/2012 11:49

Good news from the scan, there's a little baby in there! All seemed just fine, they said I'm between 8-9 weeks and and the sproglet looked fine. They didn't even have to do the scan internally which I thought they would at this stage.

I've been so paranoid by my lack of sypmtoms I'm over the moon that everything looks good. Now just have to worry about the next scan;)

Hats off to the students. Sorry to hear that the timing is tough for some but unis and employers have to treat us preggars ladies equally.

itsaruddygame · 13/09/2012 12:34

Congrats Teapig - great news and not long to go until 12 weeks.

I am another trying not to stress too much about the nuchal (scan next Friday). I come in to contact with a lot of children with disabilities through work and am not sure that I would want to go ahead if there is something seriously wrong but feel guilty even thinking that thought. It also seems so late to find out by the time you can have an amnio. Hey ho lets hope that is not a bridge we need to cross.

Fingers crossed all will be well for us all; in the meantime constant nausea reigns and I can't quite believe how much I have been getting and I still feel knackered!

itsaruddygame · 13/09/2012 12:35

That was supposed to say how much "sleep" I have been getting Blush

trying2bpos · 13/09/2012 12:56

Great news teapig delighted for you.

itsa don't feel guilty, you'd do what was best for you and your family.

Would anyone consider CVS which I think they can do earlier but has slightly higher mc risk?

hehe freudian slip with the missing sleep itsa?

In an attempt to stop eating crisps and rubbish I have been online and signed up to get some of these graze boxes delivered (see graze.com). Anyone ever tried them?

Unfortunately they also have cakes, flapjacks and chocolately things as well as the healthier options! I'm just too weak willed!

Dannilion · 13/09/2012 13:01

JaquelineHyde & Aufaniae - Yes! It seems like we're very close Smile

usernamegoeshere - I have no idea, they keep changing their stories. I was initially told it was means tested, and they took ridiculous things into consideration (ie, parents income. I'm 23 and haven't lived with my parents for 7 years!). Then I was told nothing whatsoever, no funding, no bursary...Nothing. If you wanted to be a nurse, you paid the £8,500 a year course fees.

Yeah they're scrapping the diploma, which is the issue as there's no diploma course to fall back into. I'm hoping they'll let me fall back into the degree course, I don't have the highest grades but I have never failed or had to re-take a module/exam so I think I'm more than capable. It's just so up in the air until the scan, I can't make my head from my bum at the moment.

Glad I'm not the only one with nosebleeds either.

Congratulations teapig! Thanks Your username made me laugh, it's what I call my dog because she's always nicking my cups of tea Smile

xx

Dannilion · 13/09/2012 13:05

trying2bpos I've had graze boxes delivered for years now, they're lovely and don't worry about the cakes and stuff, you never get more than 1 a box and they're made out of fancy organic stuff so it's like a guilt free treat. Well, for me it is anways! Grin

Giddypants · 13/09/2012 13:54

Yes to the graze boxes here too, the majority are lovely, only one or two which I don't like but you can rate them and they don't send them to you again.

I have a private NT scan booked for the 22nd as it is 93% accurate where as the NHS one can be as low as 70%
I'm 31 so getting on a bit!

Well done to all you students I really don't know where you get the energy from, i think studying is sometimes harder than actually working, so much mental power has to be used, I did my masters a few years ago and often thought I was mad for putting myself through all this!

Feeling much better yesterday and today. The main objective is trying to keep DS awake after a tiring morning at nursery.
Mw appointment tomorrow finally!
11+1

toobreathless · 13/09/2012 15:44

Full of cold here, I blame the baby, she likes to share everything!

So.....who is having twins then??? Shock

Because I think there are 70 of us (ish) & 1 in 67 pregnancies is supposed to be a twin one.

It's not me, I've had an early scan. Interestingly the risk is supposedly doubled in the over 35s & approaching 1 in 2 in the over 45s!

trying2bpos · 13/09/2012 16:32

Haha too it's not me either and I like the way you said risk not chance, made me chuckle. DH was a bit shocked when I told him the chances of multiples are much higher the older the woman gets. my friend with twins told me this a few years back when we were TTC and I must have neglected to tell him Grin, I think she was hoping she'd have some twin mum company.

Steady on giddy 31 is positively young in my book! I know what you mean in terms of having babies though the younger the better really.

Thanks danni and Giddy you made me feel a little less guilty ordering the Graze boxes. My first one comes on Monday and sad as it sounds I'm looking forward to it!

trying2bpos · 13/09/2012 16:44

Hey havealittle don't really know what to say about your colleague. The legs crossed thing is outrageous, unprofessional and probably illegal!

She does exactly what she wants i.e. Masters and PhD without considering anyone else so why should you feel guilty for going on maternity leave? I know that's easier said than done though.

If you're good at your job which it sounds like you are then hopefully they'll appreciate this and be keen to make things easy for you to come back after your leave.

I keep getting asked to take on things for next semester and don't know what to say. If I say no with no reason it looks bad and if I say yes and then can only do half of it is that worse? I've already said yes to a few things before I knew I was pg.

Anyway rant over, best of luck with it all havealittle when are you planning on breaking the news?

JessieEssex · 13/09/2012 16:48

too I was convinced it was me! DH was a twin (sadly his brother didn't survive) and lots of other twins in his family but the early scan proved otherwise.

I had thought that my morning sickness had mostly calmed down, but in the last two days, my 23mo DD has decided that she wants to do all her poos in the potty. Great, brilliant step for her, but OMG the stink is making my stomach churn more than ever. I am jumping up and down and saying 'yay, well done, good girl!' while trying not to retch...

11+1...

toobreathless · 13/09/2012 16:52

Oops yes, maybe 'chance' would have been a better way of phasing it.

Apologies, I blame my rather medicalised brain!

birdbrain17 · 13/09/2012 16:57

Oh NO I just got back from school and somehow the news has leaked before I was ready to tell any friends of colleagues!!I mean parents know but haven't even told siblings yet. I took off Monday afternoon and Tuesday while I was waiting to find out if I was immune to slap cheek but I told everyone I wasn't well only my line manager knew and from past experience I know she can be trusted to keep a secret but two people came up to me today (luckily when no one else was around so I hope it hasn't spread too far) and wished me congratulations and asked when I was due!
I'm so scared to jinx anything I really didn't want anyone to know before 12 weeks which is when I have my scan I only told parents and pil because I would have gone mad to tell no one!
Has anybody else had that people have guessed before you told them?Am I just being paranoid?!
11+1

wishfulthinking1 · 13/09/2012 17:00

Hi all-
Got home from work and still no letter about the scan so I just rang the women's health dept at the hospital. Receptionist said 'ah yes, I remember your name, I just booked you in today', so, it's on the 27th, when I'll be 12+4- I was a bit cheeky and asked if there was any earlier appointments or any later in the day (so I could avoid work hassle) but was assured there was not, unless i wanted to wait until October, which I didn't! So, the 27th it is! Eeeek! And Argh! In equal measures- so nervous- just want everything to be ok.

Still no symptoms and I don't feel as tired as I did before- not as fresh as a daisy, don't get me wrong, but I've got a bit of school work to do tonight, and the thought doesn't fill me with dread- which it has been doing the last few weeks!

Great news on the scan teapig- reassuring to know that things are fine, with no symptoms- hoping I'll be the same!

HaveALittleFaith · 13/09/2012 17:00

Interestingly my colleague stopped saying it when a senior colleague pointed out it could be construed as sexual harassment trying! I'll tell her when she comes back to work at the end of the month and we have a handover period. At the end of the day I'm 31, we desparately want this baby and her issues aren't going to take my joy away :)

After talking on here about nuchal scans and aminio etc, he didn't think it would be helpful to discuss it! Wants to deal with it if we have to. My gut instinct would be not to have the aminio as I would want to proceed with the pregnancy but it's something we have to talk through as a couple if it is an issue.

It could be me expecting twins - DH regularly jokes about that! But I don't have any of the particular 'risk' factors. In some ways I like the idea, family in one go, no more TTC. But two babies....yikes! :)

HaveALittleFaith · 13/09/2012 17:03

Oh and great news teapig!

wishfulthinking1 · 13/09/2012 17:04

Hmmmm... birdbrain I may be wrong but I don't think your colleagues could have 'guessed' - if I 'guessed' someone was pregnant I'd certainly tread more carefully than asking outright when it was due. I think someone at your school has a big mouth!!

I don't think anyone at my school will guess yet- the head and two close friends (who happen to be colleagues) know. I've been bloated, but not enough for anyone to say anything- though I do keep finding myself rubbing my tummy with a self-satisfied smile on my face- I think if anyone saw me in that state they might have an inkling xx

usernamegoeshere · 13/09/2012 17:20

I feel so sick today, I thought I was over it but I just feel horrible again, I can hardly function & can't even watch Malcolm in the Middle without getting tearful.

Twins in my family, but I think non identical aren't hereditary & I am under 35 so hopefully not at high risk (or chance if you are that way inclined!!).

I do have a stupid question though, if my OH is big & I'm built quite small, will it be a massive baby? He is 6'5" & I am 5'. I was about 9lbs when I was born which I know is a lot but I was 2 weeks overdue. If the baby is super huge & I can't walk/stand up etc will they induce me early? Sorry if thats all stupid, been watching TV feeling too sick to do anything today & worrying myself a bit.

toobreathless · 13/09/2012 17:29

username they will keep an eye on the babies growth at your midwife appointments. She will measure your bump & very roughly it should correspond to the number of weeks you are. If bump is measuring more than two weeks over or under you will be sent for more detailed 'growth scans' although admittedly these can be quite inaccurate. If they think baby will be too big for you then they will discuss options with you, such as induction etc

toobreathless · 13/09/2012 17:30

Hope that is vaguely reassuring

HaveALittleFaith · 13/09/2012 17:39

username my friend is small and her husband is giant and they had a medium sized baby! I agree, they'll monitor you for size.

I am still vomiting quite a bit, today someone's perfume set me off! Envy just hoping it passes soon. 7+6 today.
