Morning ladies! Bit the bullet last night, went to the shops and bought some proper maternity gear to wear.

Got a pair of jeans (below the bump for now - over bump way too big), a casual top, a dress for work and a tunic which I can wear over trousers for work or with jeans at home. Have the top and some of my old jeans (held up with hair tie and bump band) on today and feel so much better. Don't feel self conscious about my gut hanging over my jeans, but don't think anyone would guess this is a maternity top as it is just a bit flowy.

So my advice: hit the shops to feel better soon! Grin

Morning all trying the wheelchair today-fingers crossed Smile
How is everyone? Anyone else finding the nausea has increased massively the last couple of weeks?

HaveALittleFaith · 07/09/2012 13:31

Actually my nausea isn't as bad as it was initially (still off tea though!). It seems to come and go but isn't as bad as it has been. I'm amazed my weight has stayed the same so far! But I'm at the latter end of the group - 7 weeks today. Still fitting into my clothes although my jeans feel slightly more restrictive. My belly is definitely firmer.

7+0 and looking forward to a quiet weekend!

BonaDea · 07/09/2012 14:45

Mama - remind me about your back story please. Missed the part about you needing a wheelchair and now can't find where you originally told us on the thread (if it was on the thread). It's so long now...

*Havealittlefaith - sounds familiar!

ratbagcatbag · 07/09/2012 15:39

Had booking appointment and got my bounty pack. Lots of reading for me. Scan should be in next two weeks and the whole world now knows I'm pregnant so going to tell patents this weekend too. Fx everything will be fab at the scan. Midwife said e erupting sounds perfect. No bleeding at all, tummy more bloated, stretching pains and normal pregnancy stuff.

All excited now. :)

trying2bpos · 07/09/2012 16:54

oh for a healthy diet!
I'm not too bad in the day at work but as soon as I get home I don't want to eat anything healthy, veg definitely a no no at the moment!
So far not had constipation but got recommended pears for that and they seem to be doing the trick if you can manage them!

Had an important meeting at work this week so wore a new pair of maternity trousers that I didn't get a chance to wear last time around (we actually had a summer once!), felt great but was paranoid I looked pg as below bump seemed to emphasise stomach. No one commented the joys of already having a little un people just think its post pg blubber (er no comments thanks).

Got my booking appt Mon so FX all well.

Anyone else going to go for the flu vax? I had it when pg with DS and had no side effects and more importantly no flu! But I work at the uni so was paranoid I'd get it from pesky students and my clinical colleagues in the med school strongly recommended it to me.

Hope you all have lovely, relaxing weekends.

Mama1980 · 07/09/2012 17:02

Bonadea -I know it's crazy how fast this thread moves I'm doing nothing all day and can hardly keep up Smile I had my ds 4 years ago at 26 weeks after a car crash, operated on again a couple of months ago as my hips had basically dislocated again. 10 weeks preg now had massive bleeding and bp very low am in hospital while they try to fix me again. Blood is from all the muscles moving where they had no chance to heal and I can't really use my legs. I tried a wheelchair earlier in the week but my bp went very low, today went better but not great so I am lying flat a while longer. Babe is looking great though. X

BonaDea · 07/09/2012 17:16

Mama what a nightmare for you, but glad to hear that babe is doing well. It sounds like you are in the right place, being looked after. Good luck!

trying2bpos I always have the flu vaccine as I have a chronic medical condition and haven't had the flu for years! I'm not a very sicky person generally, so it could just be good natural resistance, but you never know. It is recommended for pregnant people and I'm not aware of any specific risks, so would definitely suggest you go for it!

EmpressMatilda · 07/09/2012 17:33

Does anyone know how you get the flu vaccine? My clinic haven't said anything about it. I do tend topick up bugs and flu anyway so am somewhat dreading that aspect of winter pregnancy.

HaveALittleFaith · 07/09/2012 17:34

Mama gosh I knew things were tough for you but just how tough?! How did it go in the wheelchair? Glad to hear the baby is all good!

Healthy diet ha! I've had a bag of chocolate eclairs, crunchie, ice lolly (when I felt sick) and a mini Aldi fake magnum. I'm home alone and have stir fry to cook but I need to walk to the shop and buy chicken for it (about 15 mins walk). At least it's nice!

HaveALittleFaith · 07/09/2012 17:37

Oh yes and another flu jab veteran. Had flu at 17 and had post-viral fatigue. Being asthmatic they've suggested I have it every year. Now I work in healthcare too, then add in the pregnancy....booked in for two weeks tomorrow.

Matilda I just did it through my GP practice. They just ask why you're eligible.

Mama1980 · 07/09/2012 18:16

Thanks Smile the wheelchair caused my bp to dip again so I'm going to be in another few days at least

HaveALittleFaith · 07/09/2012 18:19

Probably your BP dipped because you're not adjusted to sitting up! Can you sit more upright in bed at times?

JessieEssex · 07/09/2012 18:41

Mama you've been through so much! I hope all is straightforward for you from here on.

I had my booking in appointment this morning and it was all fine - am officially low risk (for now) and have scan booked in for 19th Sept - 12 weeks exactly. Hurrah! Only 12 days to go...

EssexWelsh · 07/09/2012 19:07

Bonadea where did you get the maternity gear? Truthfully I thought people on the thread were exaggerating saying they needed maternity stuff already but it's like I've ballooned last 2 days, I'm so sorry I ever doubted you Blush

Mama1980 · 07/09/2012 19:13

Thanks again Smile I cant really move myself so I do as I'm told, they have me half sitting up - they are being super super cautious until I get to 12 weeks all being well after that they will put in a stitch and fit me up with some therapy for my legs after that once babe is stronger.

steph2412 · 07/09/2012 19:31

Hi all sorry for all the bad news!i had my booking appointment on weds and got scan date for 2nd october when i will be 12weeks.bp was high already only happened in prev pg much later so im under the consultant from the start!loads of good info in the bounty pack.

EmpressMatilda · 07/09/2012 19:37

faith thankyou. I will contact my GP. It's hard these days getting my head round what's clinic, what's hospital, and what's GP!

Nausea and fatigue have been easing a lot today and yesterday. I have heard this can happen at 9 weeks. Long may it continue.

Tummy a little firmer too, though that could be down to my current obsession with all things potato!

aufaniae · 07/09/2012 20:14

Had booking-in appointment today. MW came to mine and was her for 2.5 hours!

The actual appointment bit was fine. My local hospital do do remifentanil pca, which I'm pleased about as I wanted to know was available as a back-up in case the epidural doesn't work on me (again).

She wasn't willing to change the scan date (not till 13.5 weeks), but I'm going to try calling the number on the scan letter just in case.

She made a shockingly racist comment however. I am still Shock

JaquelineHyde · 07/09/2012 21:47

aufaniae when is your scan date?

Also can you either say on here or pm me what it was she said. Also pm me and tell me what her name is just so I am aware!

aufaniae · 07/09/2012 22:34

JaquelineHyde I told her about the awful midwife I'd had at my last birth. (All the ones I met throughout my pregnancy were lovely. The one I had at the birth was really bad, for one reason and another.).

After some discussion she asked me if she was from another country. I gave her the benefit of the doubt - I figured perhaps she recognised her working practices as being from a particular country - and I told her that the MW had been Nigerian.

She then asked if lots of the MWs at my old hospital had been from other countries. I started to feel uneasy about where this was going, so i said. "Yes. Where I'm from" (inner London) "there are people from all over the world. It's one of the things I love about the place. I grew up in an environment that was really mixed, culturally. It actually feels a bit odd to me, to be in a town like this where it's much less mixed". I thought that would be enough to nip that particular line in the bud.

But then, in the context of talking about my son being born at Christmas-time, she told a story about how she remembers a baby being airlifted to a hospital in London at Christmas, where all the staff on the desk were black. The mum had asked if she could use their phone to tell her husband to put the turkey in the oven. The staff had told her no. She said she thought that was really mean.

I've been playing it back in my mind, trying to make sure I didn't misunderstand, but there's no point in mentioning that all the staff were black, unless the point of the story is a racist one, is there?

aufaniae · 07/09/2012 23:01

It's a shame as I'd warmed to her otherwise, and I was pleased she was there for so long as she was being very thorough.

The racism took me totally by surprise! I am really annoyed at myself for not pulling her up on it at the time. I wish I'd said something like "I'm sure I must have misheard you, as it seemed as if you were saying that you think the staff were mean because of their skin colour?!"

But I said nothing, i just looked at her like this Shock and this Confused

JaquelineHyde · 07/09/2012 23:25

Shock some people really don't engage their brains before they speak do they!!

What a ridiculous and pointless story to tell someone. I'm glad I'm not going to be getting seen by the team she works on, she may not take too well to my Zimbabwean husband and mixed race children!!

You should be able to get that scan moved, mine was only booked a few days ago and it's for October 4th, I've got the consultant as well straight after. Grin exciting times!

aufaniae · 08/09/2012 00:29

Well, yes exactly!

I doubt I'll see her again myself, she doesn't do my local mw clinic.

Just found out another friend of mine is having a baby, due in March. (She managed to keep it secret longer than me!).

It's a mini baby boom :)

damnitdamnit · 08/09/2012 07:53

Hi all. Sorry to hear all the bad news.

It's been so long since I was last on it took me ages to find this thread again. I had my booking appointment s couple of weeks ago and they changed my due date to 26th march Confused it's still coming out at 1st April on the mn calculator though so I am waiting for my scan for more accurate date. Scan date is 20th sept do not long now.

I have been so worried about this pregnancy as I had a miscarriage in April so have been trying not to think about it too much. Now it's getting near to 12 weeks though I'm starting to get exited.

No real symptoms at mo apart from bursting into tears every couple of days for silly things, but wasn't too bad with dd1 and dd2.
