Great news bunygirl!

Birdbrain, I'm a first timer too so I'm no expert but I had pains that sound very similar to yours in my side and tummy. They were mostly on one side and didn't feel like cramping so I feared an ectopic. My GP seemed surprised that I'd jumped to that conclusion but referred me to EPU anyway and it turned out not to be ectopic. Get it checked out if you're worried but from my limited experience at least it can be normal.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 03/09/2012 19:40

Bird - I've have off and on pains ever since I got my BFP. I think it may be a combination of stretching pains (google round ligaments) and constipation Blush

Well, I had my scan today, and I'm pleased to report that all is well. I was such a wreck this morning, but there is definatley one little baby in there!
I was in a room with DH, a nurse, a medical student and the sonographer, and I was the only one who couldn't see the screen - my heart was in my mouth, and no-ones facial expressions were giving anything away. Then, she swung the screen around, and there was my little baby!! She even started trying to get him/her to move by Poking the probe type device around a bit and he started to wiggle! There were plenty of tears!

I've only told one person at work that I'm pregnant, and she knew I was having a scan today, she sent me a couple of emails (even though I sit right next to her) telling me to stop grinning so much otherwise I'll give it away.

Bambino measured spot on EDD, so still 9+4

FactOfTheMatter · 03/09/2012 20:06

I'm going for 6+3 now, based on the GP's date.

It's fab to hear about people's scans being so lovely and reassuring.

HaveALittleFaith · 03/09/2012 20:08

Oh ifatfirst I'm so pleased for you! Do you feel like you can breathe a bit? Realised I didn't say congratulations to bunny either - good day all round :)

EmpressMatilda · 03/09/2012 20:29

So great hearing about people's positive scans. I've got to wait a few weeks before my 12-week scan and am fighting the temptation to get a private one. The relief must be wonderful!

Speaking of wonderful relief, I have bought some 'deflatine' to deal with my bloating problems. It says on the box that it's safe to take during pregnancy but also that it contains simeticone, heavy magnesium carbonate and calcium carbonate. These things sound scary to me. Wish I had paid more attention in chemistry. Is anyone else taking deflatine or similar?

Lola06 · 03/09/2012 20:32

So glad to hear the scans today have gone well. Good luck tomorrow with your early scan JessieEssex I'm sure everything will be fine. I've my first scan on Wednesday so know how nervous you feel. Fingers crossed everything goes ok for us both.

Had booking in appointment today which went fine. Have my green folder with maternity notes now. Very exciting.

Great to hear so many lovely scan stories today! Well done everyone! Smile

I'm checking the post every day obsessively waiting for a 12 week scan appointment. Booking in appointment with MW is not until 10+3 and think they don't issue a scan appointment until after that has been done round here - but doesn't stop me checking the mail every day anyway...... Wink

Have to content myself with looking at my scan photo from 6+4 for a while longer not that I have been looking at it 15 times a day or anything

Had to crack and buy a pair of maternity trousers today. Was panicking about going on hols to Portugal in 2 weeks time and having no 'bottoms' that were anywhere near fastening! White linen maternity trousers reduced to £15 in H&M if anyone else is similarly desperate. I'm going to try and get some work trousers too this week - maybe next size up rather than maternity - as mine are just about slicing me in half now Shock Shock

Good luck all those who have scans coming up Smile x

Just wondering if any of you have seen a midwife prior to the dating scan?

I've got questions about my last pregnancy - specifically whether I should be taking a medication they prescribed to me last time, without which DS would have been deprived of blood in the womb.

A healthcare assistant booked me in, she didn't know. She referred me to the doctor but he didn't know as my notes haven't turned up from my old doc yet.

Now I've got a letter about the scan, but that's not till 12th October and it's with a sonographer (of course!)

I'mm wondering when I get to see the midwives? I can't remember when it happened last time. Have any of you met your midwives yet?

aufaniae · 03/09/2012 22:44

Also the doc said he'd book me in for an early scan. They seem to have missed that Sad

wishfulthinking1 · 04/09/2012 06:14

Morning all-
aufanie - I've got my booking in tomorrow and I think that will trigger the scan appointment. I can speak to a community midwife, via my doctors surgery, I think if you're worried you should try to speak to one, even if over the phone.

I'm fine- 9+2 today! And ive just done a poo!!!!! Thanks my first proper poo in 2 weeks! I feel so pleased- like I've won a gold medal or something. Not sure what triggered it, I've been eating lots of fruit, taking 2 fybogel a day and I starte prune juice yesterday- probably a combination of all of these!

Question to those who've had dating scans- I thought traditionally they were at 12 weeks. We're the docs still able to do all the tests? Will you need another scan before 20 weeks?

Xxx

LikeCandy · 04/09/2012 07:33

Right then ladies, who's going to help me do my trousers up?! Soooo bloated - I can see my bowels gurgling, eww!

Dandelion I'm waiting for my scan date too - don't they know how impatient we are?! I didn't get a picture from my 6+3 scan, didn't even think to ask, was just so relieved there was a little heartbeat in there!

wishful congrats! Torch hehehe

Teapig · 04/09/2012 07:34

It's so great to hear all the positive scan news, it's really helping me stay sane ahead of my early scan next week.

This is week 7 for me which is when the spotting started with my last pregnancy so I'm stepping knicker watch up a notch. Fx everything is ok.

Never thought I'd say this but congrats on your poo wishful Thanks. I could really do with one, pass the prune juice Smile

growyourown77 · 04/09/2012 07:59

I'm so pleased to be hearing about so many positive scans this week. Congrats!

We've got our early scan tomorrow morning (previous ectopic). Although I've been feeling really positive to date (PUPO!) I'm a little apprehensive. 6+4 today.

Note to self - remember to ask for a printout!

Have a nausea-free day!

ratbagcatbag · 04/09/2012 08:00

Morning ladies. I've got my booking appointment on Friday when I'll be 10+4. Then the scan should come through fairly quickly. Lot of people at work know now but no family. I've woken up this morning panicking that there will be something wrong and I've jinxed it with telling people.
I know I've only got another two weeks o wait bits it's driving me md as I didn't have an early scan, and I was so relieved that I got ten weeks I couldn't stop grinning.

CatchAsCatchCan · 04/09/2012 10:21

Also really pleased to hear people are having positive scans!

I'm afraid I'm heading to A&E this morning. My cramps got really bad yesterday, and the spotting is back to changing between red and brown. I have a scan booked tomorrow, but I'm worried about my hormones. I had a short luteal phase before we got pregnant, which can point to low progesterone, so I'm hoping that something like that can be caught and fixed asap. My local EPU only takes referrals from GP or A&E, and my GP is still on holiday, so I'm just going to go to hospital and wait it out, I guess. Send me good thoughts please! Sad A bit worried over here.

Lola06 · 04/09/2012 10:37

Oh catch keeping fingers crossed everything is ok. Will be in work shortly and then can keep a cheeky eye on this thread if you need some hand holding during your wait. Do you have anyone going with you?

So many of the other ladies have had bleeding and everything has been ok so keep thinking positively. X

Aw, thank you, Lola. I'm here on my own, but DH is just a phone call away. I've brought a snack and my kindle, and hopefully they'll call me in soon.

birdbrain17 · 04/09/2012 11:21

thanks teapig really reassuring, I'm in work now and I feel so sick and tired I just want to go to bed but I have a wedding tonight so little chance of that happening...

growyourown77 · 04/09/2012 11:51

Fingers crossed catch. it's a pain to have to wait, but you're doing the right thing. best to get checked out - hopefully it will be the all clear!

MrsSimkins · 04/09/2012 11:55

Advice needed ladies,

I've got a hair appointment on sat when I'll be almost 11 weeks. I have short bleach blonde hair so I'm getting my roots done. I keep reading mixed reports about bleaching during pregnancy but my hairdresser thinks it'll be fine, I just might be a bit morw sensitive. I just don't know if its better to wait til I'm further along in the pregnancy to have it done tho with longer roots the bleach will need to stay on longer or get it done now while the bleach wouldn't need to stay on so long?
Any advice?

CatchAsCatchCan · 04/09/2012 12:09

mrssimkins, I'm a hairdresser. The chemicals in bleach are completely different to the chemicals in hair dye - in general, reactions to hair colouring are related to the pigments in the dye. I would probably go and have it done sooner rather than later. Do they normally use a toner afterward? You might want to get a quick patch test with that, but it's probably not necessary.

Teapig · 04/09/2012 12:25

Sending you really positive vibes Catch. It must be terribly worrying but as others have experienced bleeding doesn't necessarily mean bad news. Fx for you xx

I was going to ask the same question on hair dye. I am in desperate need of an all over tint but wasn't sure if it was safe.

HaveALittleFaith · 04/09/2012 12:36

Thinking of you catch. I hope they scan you today and you get the reassurance you need.

I'm just really tired. Unexpected vomiting yesterday (weirdly ages after us eaten anything) and just awful fatigue. Gearing up to tell my boss soon. I'm going to stop colouring my hair - it's natural enough I can grow it out but honestly it's more about the cost than the risks!

6+4

CatchAsCatchCan · 04/09/2012 12:37

Thanks teapig. There have been no conclusive studies that say hair dye is harmful to mum or baby, but we always recommended that pregnant women had a patch test for a tint to make sure there are no sensitivities that crop up. If that doesn't flag anything up, you should be ok.
