Hi ladies :)

What an exhausting day it's been!! I'm not sure what's happening re the size of my uterus but I must have had a sudden growth spurt as I've gone from needing the loo 3 times a day to needing it every 30 mins... I'm so exhausted I've been up all night!!!
I decided to try on my new maternity jeans today as my regular ones are too tight but the maternity ones are too loose. Been hiking them up all day!!
Have had the IL's over today, to see the new house and explore the new area, as well as builders coming to give quotes etc. by 3pm I almost threw a tantrum as was so exhausted the OH brought me home to bed and took the IL's to the beach and to see the helicopters at the airport!
manda made it up north safely, not looking to the journey again tomorrow!!
possom coffee sounds great - anytime after Thursday morning as I have my scan with the consultant, I can take the OH to work and pinch his car for the afternoon!!
Really have to start looking for fab dresses online, before you lot pinch them all ;)

tiddleypompom · 26/08/2012 20:30

You're all lovely dear creatures and I am so cheered by the last page or so of posts :)

manda and lanny your posts exuded joy - it is very contagious, thank you - and sharing your delight in beautiful babies!

My poor pfb DS has eaten something dodgy (not surprising as we are forever taking things out of his hands/mouth that shouldn't be there - inc a live beetle). As a result he has tummy ache and dreadful nappies (exploding farts, not pleasant, sorry if eating). Last night he woke at 12.30 and I got to bed at 3.45am - no sleep for either of us and a disturbed night for guests upstairs. Typically he did 7-7 the night before they arrived. So fingers crossed for tonight and I am in bed now.

Will catch up properly soon. Meantime yes to Isabella Oliver dresses, worth the ££ and resale value. I wore one of my old ones today comfortably (tiny bump) whereas last time I wore it when preg with DS I had a 42'' waist circumference!!

Sweet dreams all

Evening ladies. Had exhausting day digging up my potatoes and generally gardening. MIL came to help which was nice and we cooked her a lamb dinner in return. We have also painted a tet patch in the baby's room and it looks lively. Might finish it tomorrow.

Right, you are all making me want an Isabella Oliver dress now. They sound great. Anyone tried Jojo Maman Bebe?

Sorry to be brief, very tired.

FloweryBoots · 26/08/2012 21:01

Just a quick post, exhausted, as usual. Back from lovely relaxing holiday with not too much rain, and even enough sun to sit on the beach one day and DS played in the sea, which he LOVED.

haven't even tried to catch up on everything missed whilst away, but have at least read through the new thread (and of course instantly forgotten it all as usual).

Not long till scan now, week and a day for the 3rd Sep crew.

You've all dot me wanting posh mat cloths now. I bought a couple of tops of ebay last week which have arrived adn are mice - a mother care one, a M&P one and a red herring one. 2 OK for work, but the other v casual. My trousers haven't done up for weeks but mat jeans still too big. No idea what I'll wear when back at work. At least I'm still on hols until Thursday, and then scan on Monday so after that can tell work if I want too. Don't really want to, don't expect it to go down well but will be hard to hide the bump!

Hmm, might go and look on ebay for boden and isabella whatsit!

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 26/08/2012 21:27

Envy at the spuds sheldonella our allotment ones all got blight :( the ones in tubs at home have been ok but each tub is one meal so won't last long!

shieldbug · 26/08/2012 21:47

Just bought stuff in Mamas and Papas sale (yes, I know, not quite Isabella Oliver), but all I could afford. Still really pleased.

Hot chocolate with marshmallows...check
Bowl of cereal ....check
Ok, I'm ready to take on that bad boy PhD!

zoeymlucas · 26/08/2012 21:48

Evening all- I finally have Internet at home even if it is super slow!

Congrats on the scans yesterday and for the person sorry am tired who has a scan on Thursday at 8.30 SNAP :)

Have had a lovely day just me and DS2, went to an indoor play area, to visit Nanny and then my best friends bf is a pub manager and had a fun day there so went along to that. Ds loved the bouncy castle, mickey mouse, ice creams and burgers and when he had his nap this afternoon (3hours) I had a snooze on sofa too.

Weird question but is any one else itchy?? I am itchy all over and have been for about a week now and it's getting worse and driving me nuts- its worst on my hands and feet and I even have cuts on have been bleeding where I am scratching that blinking hard!!!!

Very jealous of people growing own veg, my DH tried to last year and it just cost a fortune and we didn't really get anything!

JoJoBella84 · 26/08/2012 21:54

zoey itching in pregnancy, especially of hands and feet can be a sign of obstetric cholestasis ( a liver condition) you should get it checked out to be safe xxx

zoeymlucas · 26/08/2012 22:00

I can't be that unlucky, lol. But seeing consultant Thursday so will talk to him, my midwife is beyond useless so not much point even ringing her to be honest! The only bonus is my nails are stronger since getting pregnant so are actually doing the job of itching DH wants me to cut them as am making myself bleed

shieldbug · 26/08/2012 22:11

zoey perhaps you should see your gp before Thursday as they may be able to get you treatment earlier? I had awful itching at the end of my last pg and I know how it can drive you mad (and deprive you of sleep). Besides, if it is something serious, better to be seen ASAP. Hope it's all ok.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 26/08/2012 22:18

Hi all,
Just a quick message, Em, i had a Cath Kidston changing bag and I have to say, gorgeous as it is, I wouldn't recommend it. Because the fabric/oilcloth is very stiff, it's hard to fit much in it. I actually use a normal CK canvas bag now that I can fit all DD's paraphernalia in, plus my big mum purse, keys etc etc. Not sure what I'll do when new baby comes along as I'll need even more space for all their combined crap!

Catching up on posts and will write more later/tomoz. Hope you've all had a lovely day.

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 26/08/2012 22:18

I always itch all the way through, it's v common to get more sensitive skin. I always get new allergies when pg too Hmm

Lexiindisguise · 26/08/2012 22:56

Hello ladies - hope all is well - trying to resist maternity clothes shopping for a few more weeks but you are all tempting me.
Exhausted today - lovely having visitors but I am so tired. Hope everyone is having a good bank holiday !

theTramp · 26/08/2012 23:10

I have 3 fabulously comfortable new bras from John Lewis. I'd have more but I've bought them out of their last remaining non wired 36 E bras. E?!? Sheesh! Lady v nice - apparently I'm a 34E but if you get 36 and start on inside hook and loosen as you need to until outside hook is still too tight you get a bit more wear from them before you have to go out & buy another size & fitting. Man it feels soooooo much better!

Also bought a dress a size up from Jaeger for work (with voucher so ostensibly free, wahoo!) and a trouser button extender thing from Mamas & Papas and a pair of black jeggings from there too. The 14s were HUGE but the 12s, which I bought, are quite tight web with elasticated waist so not sure how much wear I'll get from them but with the right top, shoes & a blazer they'll do for work meets which is ace and I can wear with untucked shirts and loose jumpers for a while and hide my fatness.

And gees am I fat. It's depressing! Now is not time to diet but the carbs and lack of exercise plus some bloating have created a most unappealing lump. Quite looking forward to a proper bump so I can feel a bit less revolting. Meanwhile local pools reopen next week so I can swim 3 times a week which'll be great. Apols if I'm repeating myself v tired.

Went for dinner this eve with friends who've just moved in up the road and are in 3rd trimester. So want to tell them the news but can't. I'm sure they've guessed though. Lovely to hear all their plans and now they're in new house they've bought lots of bits for babies room. Awww. I'm feeling properly broody now.

Nice to hear about everyone else's lovely weekends and vegetable patches. Extra day tomorrow ladies so enjoy.

Em2010 · 26/08/2012 23:18

Ooh thanks for the advice ethelred! May have to rethink the cath kidston but will definitely get something pretty this time.

zoey hope you get that itching sorted, sounds very unpleasant! Glad you had a nice day with your ds though.

lexi I hear you on the exhausting visitors. No matter how nice it is to see people it's so tiring being the chatty hostess. I am very glad Pil have gone home now. I could sleep for a week!

I'm sad to report that my Isabella Oliver mat dress is a summer dress so unless we have an unseasonably warm autumn it isn't likely to see this pregnancy Sad Anyway enjoy your shopping ladies!

DH returned home and I shared my fears that im not big enough. He reassured me that I'm "definitely wider" hmm, I should be pleased but....

Night All!

theTramp · 26/08/2012 23:34

Blimey yes the itching sounds nasty Zoe hope you get that sorted soon

Funnylittleturkishdelight · 27/08/2012 07:32

em it's never quite the response we want is it?! I noticed wider first then out popped a teeny swollen tummy. No one else would notice it though!!

We went to a discount outlet mamas and papas today, so shocked at pram/car seat prices!! We did see the perfect cot bed for a fraction of the price I was expecting so that was good. Going again today to make a budget list so we can start saving! Any newborn essentials lists out there?? I need help and don't want to fall into the trap of over buying.

Sheldonella · 27/08/2012 07:52

I've woken up early again, not sure I will ever manage another lie in. I'm clearly being prepared for what is to come. If only DH did the same :) Has anyone done this - I sneezed in the night which caused an awful pulling pain on the side of my stomach. It make me scream and wake DH up. Should I be worried?

Em I was thinking a Cath Kidston bag too, but thanks for the info ethel. Ooh, I want a pretty one. What exactly needs to fit in them anyway?

zoey I hope your itching isn't anything serious. Could you be sensitive to something you are using? My deodorant has started burning my skin recently.

Harriet Our potato crop was pretty rubbish tbh and lots around got blight. From our batch of about 50 seed potatoes we only got about 50 actual potatoes. Doubt we will have time next year :)

Right, I'm going to look at the Isabella Oliver site and ebay now. This is all your fault Grin It is essential anyway because I don't think my white stuff dresses will fit me for the whole way through.

Have a nice day all.

FloweryBoots · 27/08/2012 08:10

Turksih there are often good 'essentials' lists on the pregnancy board. I would say you need:

pram
car seat (if you have a car)
cot (unless you intend to full time co-sleep)
changing mat
nappies (if cloth, also nappy buckets)
Cotton wool for washes/nappy changes
6- 12 muslins (never understood why people went on about these before had DS, but invaluable!)

Moses basket isn't essential - a little new born can still go in a full size cot but if that won't fit in your room you'll probably want a moses basket. They're not in them for long though so don't spend much!

Bedding wise, get a good few sheets, if you have a sicky baby you'll need them. Pillow cases make handy extra sheets for a moses basket and save you buying more moses basket sheets which you may only use for a few weeks if you have a big baby. You will probably find you get given LOADS of blanks and may find that you want to use sleeping bags after the first few weeks anyway - they are awsome in my opinion. We bought 2 cellular blankets (cotton blackets with little holes so they can't suffocate in them) as you're 'supposed' to for DS and I think we only ever used 1, though it was August, and only in the first week or two then used sleeping bags because DS wouldn't keep a blanket on him.

Clothing:
Stick to a few (8 - 12 ish? depends if you get a sicky one!) plain sleep suits/baby grows and vests. Since it won't be warm 3 cardigans and an outdoor suit plus those oh so cute little cotton hats for in doors in the first few days, and a wolly one for outside. you WILL be given lots more clothes so don't worry about getting many to start with. And you'll probably stick to baby grows rather than 'outfits' for the first few weeks - just so much easier.

Not absolutly essential but invaluable in my opinion are also a sling and a bouncy chair. For bouncy chair I would go with a cheap one - babies enjoy them as much if ot more as enormous expensive things and they bounce more easily usually! We never had a baby bath but I did have a (very cheap) little twling support/chair thing which I found really helpful.

Any little bowl will do for nappy change/top and tail water. I found a flask handy for having warm water ready and waiting but only as our taps take ages to run warm.

Baby won't play with anything for a good few weeks so you don't really need toys initially, though of course you'll want some. Baby gyms/playmat things cost a bloomin fortune new and barely anything second hand so I'd go second hand myself.

No idea what you'd need for bottle feeding as I didn't, but if breast feeding you might want a bottle and a pump, though you shouldn't pump until feeding is well established (usually people recomend at least 6 weeks, but well established for me last time wasn't until about 13 - 14 weeks!) so you don't need it immediately, though may prefer getting it bought before you have a new born to contend with! Even that's not essential as you can express by hand, and if you're only using a bottle and pump occasionally you can just steralise by boiling in a pan of water for 5 minutes instead of getting a bulky steraliser (serously, they're all huge).

Well, what a ramble. There will be much more well thought out lists on the pregnancy board I'm sure. Should have left you to those really!

JoJoBella84 · 27/08/2012 08:23

sheldon my sneezes are agony at times, last night I had to pant to calm down!!!

HermioneBoo · 27/08/2012 08:37

Flowery that list is invaluable, I was just looking at the lists of things we might need and wishing there was one that didn't come from a shop that say everything is essential!
Sheldon only this morning I sneezed and yelled so loud from the pain that DH came sprinting up the stairs, it really hurts doesn't it? MW said that if you try and curl up when you know a sneeze is coming then it doesn't hurt

Sheldonella · 27/08/2012 08:57

Great list Flowery.

Phew JoJo and Hermione. I'm glad it isn't anything to worry about.

Well I've been drooling looking at Isabella Oliver and have fallen in love with a wrap dress. I have some overtime payment coming next month I think but I don't know if I can justify it. Those that have them - can I wash it frequently in the machine?

pipsicles · 27/08/2012 09:02

That's a pretty comprehensive list, Flowery! Well done! I second pretty much everything you've said. I'd also recommend keeping things as simple as possible for the first week or so. Eg. If you're planning on using 'real' nappies (I do, they save a fortune!), don't force yourself to start using them before you're ready (it actually took me three months to get completely in the swing of things and juggle an extra load of washing and drying every other day!). If you're not finding out the sex of baby, just buy a few white bits and pieces to start with - they look bloomin' adorable in them and you will be inundated with plenty of blue or pink once the baby arrives! Another thing. My DS was of average size - 7lbs4oz, but newborn clothes absolutely swamped him! At the last minute, I decided to get some tiny baby clothes, just in case, and he ended up being in them for quite some time! It gave me a good excuse to go shopping and indulge though! if you want baby in your room, but cot doesn't fit, the swinging cribs are quite a good compromise. They are bigger than a Moses basket (we didn't bother with this), but way smaller than a cot. DS was able to fit in his until the recommended 6 months. A word of warning though. DS HATED his swinging crib for the first 4 months or so! He actually spent most of the first few months in bed with us, or in the carrycot part of his pram! If you're buying a pram with carrycot, it might be worth thinking about just using that! I'm hankering after a bedside crib this time. I loved co-sleeping, but DH is epileptic and has his fits at night. Although they are only once or twice a year and I wake up the instant they start, it is a background worry all the time.

Geez! I've blabbered on!

I am 12+2 today and have been feeling great the last 5 days or so! Such a lovely change! Sorry to those of you still suffering, but if you're waiting for the hallowed 12 weeks, I hope it gives you some light at the end of the tunnel! That said, I am suffering from terrible lower back pain, which I am pretty sure is all DS induced. He is so heavy that I am struggling to lift him out of his cot or up on to his changing table :( nappy changes on the floor for the time being methinks and maybe it won't be such a bad idea to allow him to work out how to get out of his cot...only with the side down of course! (ooo yes, another thing - the idea of cot beds are great, but you can't get a drop sided cot bed, well I couldn't anyway, so we ended up buying a cheap eBay drop sided affair a few months ago and the lovely expensive cot bed is currently in the garage awaiting the day DS needs to graduate! No bad thing perhaps, because we will need another cot for this lo and if DS is being a pickle when we move him into big bed, we still have the 'baby' bed to put him back in! Thought it might be worth mentioning, just to add into the big ol' mixing pot!)

My scan is in one week and 2hrs! Bring it on! It's a catch 22 willing it to hurry up though because I have to go back to school the following day, but at least I can share my news I suppose!

Isabella Oliver dresses. (you girls really are a bad influence!) The biggest size I can find on eBay is a 4, which will fit me perfectly now, but I don't care what they say, I found maternity clothes buying is not simply a case of just buying whatever size you were before you were pg! I ended up a 16 in lots of maternity clothes by the end last time, although I think my giant (for me) norks may have had a bit to do with that! So my question is, how stretchy are said dresses? Should I be holding fire for a size 5, or take the risk and go for a 4?

Re changing bags. I found the boots one okay, but like others have said, it is nice to have a pretty one! I got mine for my birthday last year and I love it! My sister tried to tell me off for asking for a baby related present, but if I'm carrying it around all day everyday, it's mine more than the baby's isn't it?! (like I would take advice off my sister, but that's a whole other can of worms!) mine is a skip hop one which has 14 pockets! My mum kindly bought me a Kipling one before DS was born in the sale, but it was a nightmare because it had no pockets and I never knew where anything was! With this one, I am super organised and can find things in seconds! Great for my mummy brain! I'm just desperately hoping it will carry all the stuff I need for two children!

Blooming Nora I'm feeling chatty this morning! One last thing. I had to giggle at your post Sheldonella when you said you were up early again, which you posted at 7:50am! I am jealous of your lie in! In a few months time you will look back on these days with longing!

Have a good day all!

zoeymlucas · 27/08/2012 09:03

Morning all, go I am loving havinginternet so catch up with you all.

My midwife works Tuesday so will phone her and see what she says :) I don't have sensitive skin normally but everything changes when pregnant!!

Going to look at Isabella Oliver on eBay later as tomorrow is pay day so must treat my self!

sheldon I sneeze sometimes and get awful pain on one side then normally spend the next 5 mins panting till it passes

pipsicles · 27/08/2012 09:09

Oh yes. Pain when sneezing? Check! Midwife's advice is good though (and it helps keep some of those slippery wees in too! Blush - I must keep squeezing!)
