JoJo good news about the seat. In NI, the trains are very good in that disabled seats are also for pg women (there's a lovely sign of a woman with an unfeasibly large bump). A most civilised idea.

Re sleeping arrangements, ds always slept in a separate adjacent room and was fine- we just kept doors open to listen for problems. He's going in a proper bed when we move house (October probably) so we can recycle the cot for no 2 dc. I do have a question though- I've heard that you need to buy a new mattress; is that correct? Oh yes, and does any one know a good supplier of waterproof undersheets for a toddlers bed? Potty training is round the corner (after moving, before March is the plan) so we'd better get prepared for night time training too.

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 27/08/2012 14:54

Yes, new mattress for each child.
Waterproof covers from loads of places, supermarkets usually have them. Paper style ones dry quicker/sweat less but rip.
Dd3 is pretty good on a potty and pretty dry at night but she's keeping a night nappy for a bit.

JoJoBella84 · 27/08/2012 15:08

I've heard that mattresses can be reused but only by siblings. So if a friend gives one it's a no no but if you have one already it should be fine if it's not mis shapen etc. I would always opt for a new mattress to be safe though. Especially if your old one is a foam one as they tend to develop dips/dents.

Chefette · 27/08/2012 15:27

Hi, may be being a bit dense but why can't you use a mattress from a friend ? What about half sibling?

mandasand · 27/08/2012 15:50

Just dipping in very quickly to say hello peeps and hope everyone is doing okay today!

JoJo are you there yet? Is the funeral tomorrow? I think smartness is more important than colour, so just cobble together whatever outfit you will feel comfortable in. Hope it goes as well as these thing can chuck.

Sunnymeadows I had really bad urticaria for well over a decade and just the last couple of years it started getting a lot less angry/bothersome. But it's getting worse in pregnancy, aargh! Forgive me if we've had this conversation before (I think so...) but I (seriously) can't live without antihistimines and doc moved me from certirizine to promethazine. I'm a bit worried about taking that, tbh, but the urticaria is getting bad.

Oh my word, MiL is now my new best friend. We've not been getting on that well for past year or so. But I've had four emails in the last 48 hours since she found out about the twins! Cute, really, as it's all with offers of pram-buying, bootie-knitting, coming down to help. (Though I feel sure, from what I've read elsewhere, that relatives can either be helpful, or 'helpful'. Am hoping for the former!)

Had day off so far (naughty) but am now going to try to work whilst husb. makes sauerkraut from cabbage glut. Harriet was it you who had a bad potato crop? Ours was crap too. We had about three varieties and all were a bit pathetic, but enough for a month or two. Last year we had tatoes through till spring! Glorious. French beans, peas and beets coming through thick and fast now, and our pumpkins are getting huge! We've never had success with them before so have no idea when to harvest them!

theTramp · 27/08/2012 15:58

I have felt terrible all day today. I wish I could work out what it is that triggers the sicky days so that I could avoid them. Blurgh. Chips earlier helped. Isn't that terrible, chips to battle nausea.

backwardpossom · 27/08/2012 16:01

I just want milk. We've run out. Weather is vile so don't want to go out to get more. Rubbish.

mandasand · 27/08/2012 16:16

I raise your chips with a Greggs veg pasty, tramp! I wolfed it down like it was the tastiest thing on earth followed by two jam doughnuts, oops! Still losing weight so am unconcerned for the moment about calorific snacking!

JoJoBella84 · 27/08/2012 16:32

manda not there yet. Likely to be gone 8!! The train hit a bird and basically smashed the drivers window and wiper! So we had to go back to the previous station and await connection! Likely to miss the 5pm connection in Edinburgh so will be the 5.30 direct to York I think!!!
I hate having connections - they actually scare me (think its the dyspraxia) I have no sense of direction so can get lost finding toilets in a restaurant never mind rushing for a connection in a large station!!
Mild cramping has started but otherwise starting to feel better thanks to the joy of full fat coke and a chicken butty!!

JoJoBella84 · 27/08/2012 16:35

Ps I had time in Aberdeen so popped to new look and bought a plain black maternity dress. Wearing it with a vivid blue wintercoat though as it'll be wet and damp!!

zoeymlucas · 27/08/2012 16:35

If chips make u feel better then chips it is, I wouldnt even feel slightly guilty. I really fancied chicken casserole today but the thought of standing chopping veg was to much and we are having baked potatoes instead with cheese and beans so lots of calories, I had a pot noodle for lunch and even though I know there rubbish they taste good!
Ds1 is at nannies till wednesday as he wants to come see baby which is good, and ds was happy with the chicken nuggets for lunch - I home make them every month with fresh chicken breast and freeze so not all bad!

Iceland sell Griggs sausage rolls and steak bakes might be more but they side tracked me then you put in freezer and then cook fresh, are lush and are in freezer for any midnight munchies!

mandasand · 27/08/2012 16:44

Oh no, an already epic journey turning even more epic!! Poor JoJo, but hurray for comfort food Smile That reminds me a bit of my ridiculous journey to Glasgow at the end of June. It was the time of the big floods, and I'd left it till about 4pm before setting off (still writing my paper for the conference I was attending!) At several points in the journey it wasn't at all clear I'd be able to get there at all for all the delays, cancelled trains and diversions. I remember finally coming out of Glasgow station about 1am and saying to a woman in a fluorescent jacket 'Where's the taxi queue?' and my heart seriously sank when she pointed to the whole length of the block opposite. Lots of drunken revellers, and poor, tired old me in a right old grump! Took a further hour to get to campus. What I didn't know then was that I was 4-5 weeks pregnant. Thought it was just the work etc tiring me out. DH came up a day or two later and we headed to Loch Lomond after the conference ostensibly to do a Munro, but thankfully the weather was awful. We did a small hour-up hour-down hill and I really found that hard. All made sense when we came back and did a pregnancy test, yippeeeeee!

Backward praps you can get a treat whilst you're out fetching milk? If you'd earlier I'd have instructed DH to get you some whilst replenishing our stocks earlier Wink

ThreeForTea · 27/08/2012 17:41

Hello, hope bank holiday has been fun and relaxing in general. I went with my parents to visit my grandad in Devon for the weekend and got back last night. I went as much for the change of scene as anything Parents had offered to take dd by herself but I drew the line at letting her go four hours away from me, she isn't even two yet! Dh was having a lads/diy weekend so didn't miss us.

Today I woke up at eight feeling really bright and as if I had energy.. lasted until half nine and then I felt increasingly lousy as the day has gone on :( :( I had really got my hopes out that I was out of the woods. Still 12 weeks today so inside i'm Grin woohoo!

Oh no jojo! I'm sorry you're having such a bad day :(

Manda it says in all the manuals how important it is to have 'quality time' with your oh, so you have to look at it as making an investment into the future happiness of your family, no guilt needed!

Another one who would like new LO to sleep in seperate room. We had dd in with us for about two nights but couldn't sleep because was aware of every little snuffle, and we kept disturbing her! When she went through she slept through from about two weeks old so we were spared too much sleeplesness. With this new LO though we have run out of rooms, so not too sure what to do. Maybe find a house we can afford and move! haha.

Envy of everyones lovely maternity clothes. I never seem to win things on ebay too slow

sheldon I have had a few sharp pains sneezing/moving. I hold my tummy already when walking fast, and also tend to 'squeeze while i sneeze!'

Hi to everybody

Emus · 27/08/2012 18:14

Ooooooh, thanks for the nice welcome messages, am struggling to keep up with this thread but lovely to meet you all! It would help if the app was better designed and the 'Previous' and 'More' buttons were at the top of the page and not the bottom!

Got our 12 week scan on Friday (this is our first baby) so I've restrained myself from getting too excited until then. Once we know everything is ok and on track(and that there's an actual baby there!) then the real planning will start!

Oh, and we put in an offer on a new house yesterday Grin

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 27/08/2012 18:24

emus I just stick to MN mobile via safari , more reliable than the app.

Em2010 · 27/08/2012 18:28

Afternoon All, horrible weather here! Chips are good tramp as zoey said, if they make you feel better. Actually my midwife said that too when I confessed to my turkey drummer phase (now thankfully passed!) Am currently sitting here munching chunks of cheese and dipping them straight in the chutney. Not exactly refined here!!

jojo we bought our angel care baby monitor using our tesco club card vouchers, if you double them up it makes a good dent in the cost.

emus exciting news on the house. We need more detail!!

The two mums I know who's babies slept in seperate rooms from birth were both doctors so obviously it's not too much of a concern.

manda hope work is going well.

Hello to everyone else!! I am getting so nervous for my scan next Monday. Arghh!!

backwardpossom · 27/08/2012 18:42

Aw cheese and chutney Em now you're talking! I'm all about the savoury cravings!

Manda DH has left work (I think) and is under strict instructions to buy a cow on his way home Wink Would probably be cheaper, tbf.

jojo hope you make it ok! Trains can be absolutely rubbish huh?

chefette I think the mattress thing is to do with dust mites, dead skin, general bodily fluids (vomit, drool, wee etc) from the baby that used it previously etc. DS's cot mattress has a waterproof cover though, so I'm just going to make sure that's clean and use it. As for the moses basket one, he was in it for such a short time - maybe 5 weeks as he slept in my bed the first 3! - it's practically new, right?!

DS went into his own room at 8 weeks I think it was. I couldn't sleep with him in the room and he didn't sleep very well in our room. When we moved him into his own room, we all slept much better. I don't know if we'll manage it this time around though - we've only got 2 bedrooms upstairs (the other is downstairs) so I suspect baby will have to be in with us. Not to worry, sleep isn't important, right?!

Lexiindisguise · 27/08/2012 18:43

Tramp I'd agree, if it makes you feel better in the sicky nauseous weeks, go for it. My MW also told me not to worry that I'd had a few weeks of not eating so well, and now I'm through the worst of it I'm eating more healthily again. Though with very food orientated guests this weekend I have been cooking and eating - roast dinner, massive chinese banquet out on Saturday, home made cheesecake and lasagne! [embarrassed] Salad for me for lunch tomorrow.
Today's craving is green olives. Have eaten about 25.
Popped into Babies R Us on a whim today and was a bit traumatised - so much stuff, so much choice, how on earth do you decide what's best when it comes to strollers, car seats, cots...? I'm not talking about the fancy stuff either, just the basics! Think I will ask friends for recommendations.
mandasand good news about the MIL. My SIL is not interested in children at all, but it was very sweet this weekend as she kept asking carefully prepared "pregnancy" questions. I appreciated her making the effort and decided not to look the gift horse in the mouth! Wink

Em2010 · 27/08/2012 18:51

lexi if it's any help I completely recommend the maxi-cosi car seats on so many accounts. Once I'd decided on that I looked t all the prams that were compatible.

Lexiindisguise · 27/08/2012 19:06

Thanks Ems - it is really helpful!

theTramp · 27/08/2012 19:35

Thanks all for potato related worry nots. I think I'm just used to being a bit less carb heavy - and I say this as a fully fledged carb addict.

I've just woken up. This pm was to be 4 hours of solid writing & I've slept it instead. (sigh) yes it's needed so c'est la vie but the timing of exhaustion relative to work load isn't great.

I bought supplies for stir fry tonight because I wanted to counter my calorific falafel burger & chips lunch & yesterday's day of healthy but non stop eating. I'm reading your baked potato with cheese & beans and I've total dinner envy. Why didn't I think of that?! Unless I can gather up some will power it may be pizza & chips again. So weak!

I too get the occasional stomach twinge when sneezing (& good lord I've never sneezed so bloody much in my life - hoping this is pregnancy related & not hayfever 'cause that would suck). I think it's trapped wind rather than anything serious. Cramping/pain doesn't
continue and belching does (does that go? I'm like a beer sotted navvy) hence my conclusion.

JoJo - I hope the end of the train journey brings cuddles, comfort & something nice for dinner.

Emu - hurrah on house!

Mand - your day sounds lovely.

Everyone with scans this week - fingers firmly crossed & here's to sleeping better once you've seen baby jiggling about & you've been given all clear from Doc.

And a question - why are all non wired bras, maternity or no, over a D cup so pig ugly? Seriously, don't pregnant women want nice underwear? And what is it with the lack of matching undies too?

zoeymlucas · 27/08/2012 19:37

Rather jealous of everyone who has been donated things, DS is 18 months and when we moved we either gave away or free cycled stuff we sold a few bits too but we now have nothing left really apart from a jumperoo which won't be used for about another 18 months! We also have the quinny buzz we won in a raffle in March but I really think we need a double buggy so think they may have to go :(
With Ds2 people bought a lot of presents but with such a small gap I can't see that happening this time which is fair enough so time to get saving and hiding those mulberry handbags from my eBay obsessed DH!!!!!!

Baby shops can be scary lexi just don't be suckered into thinking you need everything as u really don't! With Ds we bought. Mamas and papas swinging chair thing, with a light shop, auto vibrate, auto swing, musical tunes and it cost a small fortune and he bloody hated it- I bought a cheap 15.99 bouncing chair that was higher and he loved every blinking second in it, lol!!! Lesson learnt that pretty an expensive aren't always the best!!!!!!
If its your first I would recommend a good bath support as can be a bit of a juggling act with a squirmy wet newborn that's screaming and trying to sponge down and clean x

zoeymlucas · 27/08/2012 19:43

If it helps tramp I got about 3 bites in my jacket potatoe and it made me reach and I promptly spat it back on the plate and sulked cos it made me feel sick - GUTTED!! It's now in the bin and I am friggin hungry!!!!

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 27/08/2012 19:44

tramp look at hot milk bras , best I've seen although they are still pretty substantial

theTramp · 27/08/2012 19:55

Thanks Harriet I will.

Zoey - oh boo! I hate it when that happens. So take out for you too?
Btw - local charity shop has a double buggy for sale for £80. If you're London based I can tell you where it is if that assists?

MrM has sorted a DVD, emptied dish washer, fed cat & is happy to cook.. Which is code for I don't think pizza is a great idea ;) Well if he's cooking...

Needy clingy cat is determined to sit on my stomach or boobs - the more I push her off the more sulkily determined she gets. Honestly!
