Wagamamas is delicious! I love the dumpling things. Yum yum.

Welcome lovely newcomers. Team yellow here as well.

missmummy it sounds like you deserve those chocolate buttons and then some.

I had a better day today - much more movement. I was visited by ex pupils today and one of them told me I really suited pregnancy and that I was glowing. Nice to hear and cheered me up no end.

What are people's thoughts on tummy tubs. I really fancy one but DH is reluctant to spend £20 on what is essentially a bucket. I think he is serious when he says he can gets us a bucket from B&Q for £1:50.

Passmethecrisps · 28/08/2012 21:05

Oh yes, I also meant to ask about back pain. I am starting to find my journey to work pretty intolerable. Sitting for any length of time is hard going. Does anyone have any advice?

Evilwater · 28/08/2012 21:05

Hello everyone,
I'm going to read back on all those posts! Wow we can talk!

Friday- I went to a baby naming ceremony, and part from the rain it was wonderful. The ceremony it's self was aimed at the child, I loved the lines" to not influence, baby with the beliefs and views you hold. But to support her in everything she does"
Because it was raining I wore my healed knee high leather boots. Yes I regretted it, my hips were very painful. So ladies no matter how good you look, DON'T wear them.

Saturday- just a normal one. I decided to bake on Wednesday, pasties seemed to be the thing. So I have 15 to do.

Sunday- I rested.

Monday- cleaned half the house, including the bathroom and kitchen. Anyone else finding cleaning the bath getting impossiable?

Tuesday- boiler serviced so I don't have to worry about the heating. Washing and more tiding done. I've chopped up all the meat and spuds. I really hate pealing spuds.

Tomorrow making the pasties, wish me luck.
Evil

It could well have been rowing can't remember exactly now as it was a few years ago Smile

I get v ratty when I'm hungry at the mo laughalot so I hope I can avoid talking to too many people while I'm waiting for the blood test! Blush

Welcome Limpit and Yoko! It's never too late here for a newbie!

What a day... i'll start off positive! I spent the last of this months wages on most of the things I still needed! Got a swing, £38 from Asda, in the baby event, I've built it, and it seems pretty decent for the price! Just going to buy a newborn head hugger to make it a little more cosy! Got 2 large pj type shirts for use in labour and after, 2 pairs of yoga style bottoms, a vest top, and 2 maternity vest tops with those straps that clip off for feeding. That's all the clothing I needed really, aside from feeding bras. Have the big knickers already! That lot came to £50, and if I'd got the same in Mothercare it would have been triple that!

Got my gym ball, and a breastfeeding pillow too.

So, just mattress, and bras, and curtains for babys room to go now! Woohoo! Feeling happier now I'm more organised! Still need to read up on hypnobirthing though.

On the downside, I contacted payroll to find out what my pay would be while on mat. leave. They haven't told me yet, but what they did say has caused a near melt down and left me stomping off to the management this morning.

My edd is (saturday) 3/11. I wanted to start my leave on 5/11 as I have annual leave prior to this. I want as much time off after as possible, due to only being able to take 6 months off. So I don't want to start my leave any earlier, as I have no annual leave to take at the end (work won't let me carry my leave over).

So my dates were arranged with my manager, who said I can't leave on 5th, but can on the 4th. She had the copy of my matB1, and my letter with leave dates. Now payroll are telling me I can't start my leave on the 4th, it has to be 28th October! And I'd of been none the wiser had I not rang to ask about my pay. I know its just a week, but that is a week I will be back sooner after, plus I'm likely to go overdue, as did last time at 40+13, and I'm not agreeing to be induced either, so could go further than that. I'll be going back to work with a 5 month old baby at this rate, and I don't bloody want to.

Fuming isn't the word really. I'm being told you have to start your leave the week of the EDD, which for me is 28/10, even though I'm not due til 3/11. It's for their own bloody benefit as far as I can see. I'm now hoping I flippin' deliver at 37 weeks just to screw up their calculations and I hope its the middle of the sodding week.

Going to have to speak to my union I guess.

Hope everyone else hasn't had a nasty surprise :(

FatimaLovesBread · 28/08/2012 21:24

Ahh thanks waiting did you see my post above?
Been relaxing all night. Baby is very active, kicking me in the ribs.

Anyone else watching midwives?

TheDetective · 28/08/2012 21:27

I'm watching! This one is much more realistic...

horseylady · 28/08/2012 21:29

Detective I knew that being nhs. Shame but true.

Back home and I feel like shit :( feel like it's back to work blues :( will be ok!! Seen the horse and some ducklings were hatching three had come out so there's 5 to go under this hen!! Sooooo cute!!

Ribs feel bruised I have the biggest bites on my arms and legs which I can't take anything for. They're huge!! Still mw tomorrow. Wonder if it'll be the 5th one I see!!

Elizadoesdolittle · 28/08/2012 21:37

misslaughalot I had my GTT today. Be warned there is a lot of hanging around! I had an appt at 9.15 but first lot of bloods didn't get taken till 10.20 so then had a 2 hr wait from then. Hopefully they'll be a bit swifter where you go. I get the results tomorrow so will let you know if it's positive or not. Good luck.

Oh I really want a waggamammas now. I used to go loads when I was at work. The ramen is my favourite with a duck goyzo side. Might have to treat myself to one soon.

Welcome to the newcomers. Nice to see the thread is still growing.

TheDetective · 28/08/2012 21:44

That baby then was so sleepy because of the diamorph close to delivery!

ValiumQueen · 28/08/2012 21:44

It is in the Mat Policy detective Can you take any annual leave at the end of your Mat Leave? parental Leave? I went back to work when both mine were 5 months, and it was not nice.

Elizadoesdolittle · 28/08/2012 21:44

passmethecrisps I had a tummy tub with DD as she hated baths. I do see your DH's point, it effectively looks like an expensive bucket, but it is very clever and really helped my DD get used to being in the water and she grew to love baths. She used to go in with DH lots. The TT supposed to be very good for colicky babies too and bring up wind. It worked for us, but I would say wait until you have your baby to see if it's worth getting one. They may love baths and then it would be a waste of £20.

ValiumQueen · 28/08/2012 21:45

Never had a wagamama. Never heard of a wagamama. I googled. I want one. Now.

kirrinIsland · 28/08/2012 21:48

detective that sucks :( is that just an NHS thing? It seems very unfair.

My baby is very active right now - my bump has been practically rippling for the last hour or so.

Is the glucose test a standard thing? I haven't had to have one?

TheDetective · 28/08/2012 21:50

The problem is the pay :( My unsocials bump my pay up by £500 a month, so even if they let me carry the leave over (which they aren't, I asked and was told no) I'd still be unable to afford to stay off. Basically, I'm the main wage earner. I earn over 3x what DP does. I need to go back so I can have my full wage. Already taking a £700 a month hit while on mat leave for the final 4 months :( That is about as much as we can cope with. And we have saved up to allow us to manage that!

If I take a/l after it would only give me basic pay. And I can't afford it. I'm in a lose lose situation to be honest.

It is in the policy according to HR...

applepieinthesky · 28/08/2012 21:54

Welcome yoko

We don't have wagamamas here and the nearest is about 60 miles away so I've never tried it.

I got very tearful tonight thinking about a conversation I had with my mum earlier. She was saying how excited her and my dad are about the baby. My dad has grandchildren already from my older half brothers who have a differentmum to me. But this is my mum and dads first grandchild together if you see what I mean and she was saying how special it is. She also said that they feel like they have to overcompensate and do as much as they can for me and the baby because they are the only grandparents he will have that he'll see regularly. His other set of grandparents are in Iran and hell probably only see them every couple of years or so.

I was thinking about it afterwards and it made me so sad to think DP's parents will never experience what mine will Sad. I'm crying again thinking about it now.

TheDetective · 28/08/2012 22:06

Awwww Apple that is so lovely!! My mum is the opposite. When I was upset this evening she just ranted at me why on earth am I having another baby, why does anyone want more than one, and don't go having another after this. Neither of my parents particularly care about me having this baby, so you are very very lucky!

ValiumQueen · 28/08/2012 22:06

detective I was thinking of next years annual leave not this.

TheDetective · 28/08/2012 22:12

It still gives me the pay problem. They offered me 4 weeks leave, but it would be at basic pay as annual leave pay is calculated from the previous 3 months wages, and they have confirmed that it will be based on my basic pay as I won't be receiving unsocial hours :( I have to work 3 months before I can get annual leave pay back up to my usual pay.

Also, they are taking 6 bank holidays off me (even though I am only off 6 months!) because 6 of the 8 fall in the time I am off!! So I'm already down to 5 weeks 4 days for next year, then if I did take 4 weeks I'd have to go from June til the following April with just 1 week and 4 days leave!

Only thought of one solution thanks to devious colleague but not sure if I have the brass neck to pull it off! I'd still have go to back for 3 months though...

TheDetective · 28/08/2012 22:13

Why do I feel like I am being screwed over :(

horseylady · 28/08/2012 22:36

Leave is surely annualised hours, ESP when Easter falls over the leave year!! Good Friday is in march, Easter Monday April so they shouldn't be able to do that on terms of bank holidays, ESP as a shift worker.

The week of edd is the policy at my trust. I can though carry leave over (by prior arrangement!) should he arrive early, so long as I look like I planned to use it pre having baby. Which I have. Whatever happens I take 9 months off (hopefully!!) and finance have just sent through my monthly gross pay and it looks like my calcs were correct so fingers crossed dh agrees!

TheDetective · 28/08/2012 22:40

I've just googled and found the direct.gov info which says about being able to take leave from 11 weeks prior to EDD, but nothing to say you can't start it later, or on any day of the week of your choosing. Good job I'm off for 2 days now, so I can speak to union etc.

Also been told I can't cancel my £28 a month car park or i'll not get a space when I come back!!!!!

Limpit80 · 28/08/2012 22:49

Hello everyone, thanks for the lovely welcome! Cheered me up as I've been feeling a bit down today. Something has died under our floor boards and smells horrid, but we dont know where it is and I cant bear the thought of taking up all the floor boards!
Detective - sorry to hear about your mat leave problems. Its horrid that we have to stress about cash so much, when we should just be looking forward to our little ones isn't it?
Yoko - Im a teacher too. Have enjoyed the hols, but am dreading going back to school on mon!

Limpit80 · 28/08/2012 22:50

Ohh and can someone explain how to add smileys please?

applepieinthesky · 28/08/2012 22:54

She actually said that to you detective? Shock and regarding your job you should definitely speak to the union. Find out what your rights are.
