Here's a new link for us all to chatter on

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
acjfluff · 21/08/2012 18:56

Hi ladies, I've been awol for a while (pesky real life getting in the way of MN) and found it hard to keep up with all the chat.

Good to see everyone's scans have been positive!

I'm a little freaked out by how organised you all seem to be with baby purchases, I've got a few bits and bobs but nothing big.

To be honest, I've been focused on organising our wedding (next month) and house move (next week) so baby planning has taken a bit of a back seat!!

It's so good to read about aches and twinges so I don't stress as much that it's just me. Also glad to know about your bumps. I made the mistake of asking my DP if I look pregnant or fat... He waited just a bit too long before saying pregnant and then grinned Hmm

itsMYNutella · 21/08/2012 19:37

Arghhhh am being horrible tonight to poor DP and for absolutely no reason... right now he is emptying the dishwasher... perhaps I'll let him finish that and then get him to cuddle me on the sofa I think I have been too lazy today!! I hate being so unproductive, the last couple of weeks I've been busy working and now suddenly I have acres of time and nothing to do....

and it's hot sorry. Just needed to rant. off now to cuddle my gorgeous DP.
X

Clarella · 21/08/2012 19:44

Hi acj, wow exciting life stuff! Congratulations on both!

Don't worry - shops still open when baby born! We've bought - um - a funky lightshade (from the Baltic), an ancient cute wool blanket I saw in oxfam at womad and - err - a shed. I still don't have a kitchen sink (or rest of functional house at mo) so baby stuff later! But, I did pick up my new (second hand) travel system (gumtree special, 80 quid!) which I'm delighted with! It's a hauck infinity and I really don't know why they don't make them anymore cos I just love the design. Bit like a bugaboo I think. it'll do for now then we'll see about something else later on, though looks like its built to last. I have my eyes on Phil n teds in the future, esp for number 2 but DH will need working on ;)

Yep let's just get number one sorted first eh?!

Pidg, love the jingle sparko pavlov story - deffo need to find something similar!

Honey there's no crying over milk poured by crazy pregnant ladies ;)

Clarella · 21/08/2012 19:48

Nutella, show him the 'tell me your crazy lady pregnant stories' thread in the pregnancy topic. Anything you've done/said will pale into insignificance.... ;)

I'm putting off washing up in the gardening trug in the bath, down to a teaspoon I keep rinsing :/ thank god for paper plates, and my exceptionally patient DH too ;)

Mummycox · 21/08/2012 19:49

Shit day, shit job, feel enormous and work colleagues keep going on about how big I am. Which is great when there are 500 in the client group and I can see 50 a day. Fed up. Positivity gone.

Going to sit on crying sofa.

Bubbless · 21/08/2012 19:58

2blessed i had some horrific morning sickness, so ive been at work for about 3 days after finding out i was preg! hoping they are accepting but i know they are not going to be!

clarella thats what i was thinking, the latest il 'start' maternity leave will be the 20th as thats when the schools break up... but thats very optomisitc!
the 2 o clock nap sounds amazing, is it true that babies will be soothed by what they hear a lot of in the womb? in which case my baby will like ncis....

daydream i hope they will be accomodating, doesnt help that there are only 4 people in the team, and there is another lady also pregnant and is a week behind me.... so work will have to accomodate us both!

mummy have a Biscuit and a Brew hope you feel better soon!

SpottyTeacakes · 21/08/2012 19:59

Passes tissues to those on the crying sofa. BBC 2 from now: great British bake off then the midwives should cheer us all up Grin dp has gone to get giant cookies and krave Blush

PurplePidjin · 21/08/2012 20:30

Clarella, in this house it will probably be Hollyoaks Blush

emilyeggs · 21/08/2012 21:18

Oh no! The crying sofa strikes again Sad hope all those on it are feeling better very soon Biscuit

CODwidow · 21/08/2012 22:03

Lots of stretching and kicking tonight my belly is moving all over the place Grin
I think we have enough bits for baby now except a footmuff. So next payday I'll start thinking about my hospital bag and get a few bits ready.

Next week is my youngests birthday, can't believe he'll be 4! That also means in a few weeks they'll all be at school full time. Not sure what I'll do with myself Wink

MyDaydream · 21/08/2012 22:05

Nutella my DP is putting up with all the crazy I throw at home quite well, but sometimes it does feel like he can't do anything right. Today I had a go at him for not calling the house phone, when he didn't know I was home in the first place.
Bubbles I read something about babies who's parents listen to soaps all the time get calmer when they hear the theme tune. My mum said it worked with baby me and Neighbours.

HoneyMum21 · 21/08/2012 22:55

I just got angry and shouted at DH because he got angry with me for lifting a (rather large) chair ready for the movers tomorrow. He was totally right to shout but I don't like being told not to do things (I'm very stubborn)

Clarella · 21/08/2012 23:12

Is this the start of 'the rage'? .... Wink

yoga teacher and second time hippy humming mum (only one brave enough to do it) reckoned if you do the yoga hums now they respond and are soothed when born - hippymum said her DPs lower voice did a better hum and then did really help to sooth their first child when born. Did it in labour too (im not brave enough for that!) She'd also joined a singing bumps group at the sage up here with that in mind, learn children's songs around the world while with bump then sing when born (not the labour bit!). I've been a bit sad my bump missed out on the songs I sing at school. I think voice is best as it vibrates in your body but I'm sure regular tunes or a story will do the trick too.

Giggling to that teacher jack whatsit prog earlier, I had to do the sex talk anon question box, they all wanted to know about 'getting tubes tied' (aged 8) (I think all their mams were!) Had to think on me feet for that one!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 21/08/2012 23:23

Hello ladies, congrats pmgkt how exciting! Commiserations to those who find themselves on the sofa today. Crazy irrational ladies, embrace it! It's the only time you can get away with it and no one dares do this face Hmm

I am officially vacating the sobbing sofa today! Not sure why I feel better as I've spent the day have my boobs felt by various members of the cardiology department. They told me my heart rate is too fast; they don't know why! So exactly where I was before i saw them. I have a 2 week heart monitor and another appt in 4 weeks.

I also know why I felt so crap yesterday - kidney infection. Hopefully feel a bit better tomorrow now that I've taken a few antibiotics.

I bought myself this little beauty today. It cheers me up every time I look at it, just too cute!

PurplePidjin · 21/08/2012 23:50

I've been taking The Rage out on the internet tonight - there is now at least one person who knows exactly why Mong, Retard and Spaz are offensive and will no longer be using them in their daily vocabulary!

I think I've escaped the mood swings so far, though. I've had a couple of crying jags but they've been over big stuff like the current money situation rather than trivia iyswim.

2blessed · 22/08/2012 05:02

Fell asleep during midwives, up now and don't need to be for another 3 hours! Aaagh!

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 05:56

4 hours kip Angry and now I'm wide awake! Still, midwife this afternoon :o

Clarella · 22/08/2012 06:20

Hope you're feeling better this morning mummycox, and have a better day.

Goodness willyou, that sounds worrying, hope they can work it out for you. Hope infection clears quickly too.

The insomnia appears to be becoming a habit - either needing a wee or thumper appears to wake me up at 4 each morn. Sometimes that's when I need the sobbing sofa (a bit this morn) - ive not really noticed totally off the wall mood swings as such other than what is linked to my thyroid stuff which has been no different in pregnancy to other bad times other than a nought to sixty magnified speeded up effect. Unfounded crazyness = crying at Kate Bush and when the fridge door fell off, and possibly when DH ate the last of the 70% chocolate.

Love the mickey grow bag willyou! Have to say was very taken by one in ikea, the green vegetable one - really liking all their stuff, esp a stuffed toy fish dinner where you can slice/pull the fillets open to reveal the fish skeleton - (Ok still not a practical baby item and flippin eck rather pricey!)

Where on earth was that pidg?!

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 06:40

On a facebook group. It just goes to show how pervasive stupidity is, really!

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 06:56

pidg my boss always uses words like that and I'm always 'telling him off' I think it annoys me more that I'm the only one in the office who says anything!

Good luck with the midwife, consultant at 9 I'm an expert at weeing in a pot!

Sorry for those having rubbish sleep, hopefully it'll pass soon.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 07:03

Also pidj & cookies what can we do in Bournemouth with 2 year old dd this bh weekend when it inevitably rains?

emilyeggs · 22/08/2012 07:32

Morning all Smile sorry to hear a few bad nights, I can include myself in that but hope by getting up early today I will sleep better tonight. Although people keep telling me I don't look preg Sad I've started to notice when I'm in the kitchen my bump now gets in the way of the work top (was very pleased and showed DH) Grin. I guess people will always have an opinion on bump size and say "my your so big!" or "it doesn't even show!". The sonographer said no one ever just says " yes you have a normal bump". I took comfort in than

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 07:34

"The word retard means late - it's French - and is used medically to refer to a slowing of brain development. Spastic is a medical term for a certain way that muscles are affected by brain damage, eg in Cerebral Palsy or Parkinsons. Mong refers to the derogatory term for people with Down Syndrom, Mongoloid, therefore neatly encapsulating both racial and disability prejudices"

Something i said last night, dunno if it would help you talk to your boss?

emilyeggs · 22/08/2012 07:38

Thoughts ladies, I'm looking at prams and was wondering if babies stay in the carry cot long or do they like to be in a sitting position soon enough. Some pushchairs you can't use the seat unit until six months and some like the m&p sola you can Confused.

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 07:39

I have my niece (7, ASD) and nephew (5) visiting, and suggestions are:

Beach, just take wet weather gear
Heavy horse centre in Verwood
Liberty's owl, raptor and reptile centre in Ringwood
Paultons/Peppa Pig world
Beaulieu Motor Museum
Adventure Wonderland near the airport
Walk in the Forest, again just be prepared for the weather and stick to sign posted paths

:)
