Basically I'm in a toss up between m&p sola (with car seat as I don't think seat unit looks snug enough for a newborn in winter and have heard that the cosy toes it comes with doesn't cover very well) or mothercare orb which means I don't need a 0-9 months car seat and can just get a car seat from birth to 4 years ( I don't drive so not going from car to pram a lot) Confused

Mummycox · 22/08/2012 07:53

Thank you ladies.

I'm not going in today, spent half the night worrying about it and woke up worrying about it. Just not healthy. Need to get angry and then need to get perspective. Seems to take longer when pregnant.

Got midwife later too. Hope your appointments go well.

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 07:56

I've been given a Hauck Something (it's quite old but only used for grandkids) which is a pushchair that's suitable from birth and I'll hire a sling from my local library. Afaik, babies who can't support their heads need to lie flat - so birth to between 4 and 6 months? I think the carrycot is basically a moses basket on wheels, so again only used until about 4-6 months...

kate2boysandabump · 22/08/2012 08:00

Morning everyone, feel much better this morning because I didn't need a wee all night!!!! I had to have a few drinks, but didn't actually have to get out of bed, first time in weeks Smile

pmgkt very exciting news!

Pidj Good for you!

Willyou Hope you feel better soon. I saw that range yesterday and it is all soooo cute.

I bought a Tommee Tippee sensor monitor from TK Maxx yesterday for £55, so feeling quite pleased with my bargain, I was expecting to have to spend more than that.

No rage here yet, feel quite well and sort of normal. I'm sure it won't last Grin

kate2boysandabump · 22/08/2012 08:06

You can use a seat unit from birth if it lies completely flat. I've never had a pram with a carrycot before as my boys were both born in the summer, but I've gone for a carrycot this time to protect the baby from the elements a bit more.

utopian99 · 22/08/2012 08:52

pidj beaulieu is ace, i loved it when i was small!

smgkt (is that right? - sorry, on phone) congrats on team blue.

Hope everyone's midwife appts are good, ours isn't for another fortnight, and i want to hear his heartbeat again. Just found out some friends of ours' dd has cerebral palsy, she's two and only just been diagnosed, and is the cutest baby i know. Now feeling sad for them and also worrying about The Crumb - so many things you can't know for certain even after they're born..

On a less sad note, we're decided on getting the Stokke explory, (second hand,) but not sure if we need the carrycot as this is good for newborns to lie flat but then so does the seat unit? Any thoughts? Hoping for a v3 but there are more v2s out there on ebay/gumtree/preloved, and they are a bit cheaper..

itsMYNutella · 22/08/2012 08:53

Thanks everyone! DP eventually spoke to me again and Clarella thank you, I showed him the thread you recommended, it made me laugh, and then of course I cried and DP was so sorry Confused
I throw the occasional strop when not pregnant (nothing major not even monthly PMS just an occasional strop... I think that's fairly normal) and DP admitted that while he had not fogotten that I am pregnant he had forgotten about the crazy hormonal side of things.

Clarella · 22/08/2012 09:05

Shocked at fb page

All sounds lovely pidg, id be tempted to do horses and raptors!

Very wise decision mummycox. rest up and take it easy. X

Must admit that is why I went for second hand, pram carry cots don't get much use in some families so can quite good second hand and I decided in winter around here I'd want one plus can stay sleeping in it when get back from shops, but mainly want to sling it at first so didn't want to spend more money than nec - doubt will use car very much, local shops good, metro/bus to town v easy and lots of mother and baby stuff in walking distance. However, elsewhere my decision would be totally different! It's got a car seat but I'm thinking of a new 0-4 one.

emilyeggs · 22/08/2012 09:11

Mothercare orb it is with 0-4 car seat Grin now, which colour Hmm

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 09:14

Thanks, Kate, I've spent the last 7 years working with people unable to ask for even the basics like food and drink - demanding a bit of respect on their behalf has become an ingrained habit now gobby cow

I'm pushing for horses and owls. Dniece is most likely to cope and enjoy them, and both are small local charities as opposed to big profit organisations iyswim

Mummycox, we're Midwife buddies! I'm 4pm :)

Barbeasty · 22/08/2012 09:45

Spotty- the aquarium is quite good, and the ticket lasts all day so you can pop in and out and to the beach next door if it cheers up for a bit.

Beaulieu is good and the ticket for the cars lasts for a year, so you could go more than once if the weather is bad all weekend! And the monorail is nice.

DD enjoyed the historic docks at Portsmouth. Again the ticket lasts for a year and we didn't quite manage everything in a day.

If you go to the new forest then the Red Shoot is family friendly and has reasonable food. And you can walk from around there.

If the weather is a bit nicer then a trip to Brownsea Island is good.

Taking note of other decisions though, for future trips to SIL.

Emily- a chair suitable from birth just means it lies flat, so look for a decent cosy toes type thing. John Lewis do some nice universal ones for about £15- certainly cheaper than £80 for an official icandy one!

And before deciding on a car seat which goes right through, have a look at the car seat boards about rear facing seats for stage 1/2. Not for everyone (expensive and bulky) but if you decided to go for it then you wouldn't want to spend extra on a first car seat which is extends through that age.

Mind you, if you don't use a car often then they're probably not worth it. But there are other seats which go from 9 months to age 12 and might work out better value in the long run.

If you though push chairs were a mine field...

2blessed · 22/08/2012 10:29

emilyeggs I'm torn between the M&P Sola and the UppaBaby Vista. Think the uppababy will swing it for me as the carrycot comes included and I quite like the idea of a cosy carrycot during the winter months.
Late for work because of no sleep and loads to do as I'm off from tomorrow for the bank holiday!
I think I can feel LO tugging on the umbilical cord, its just a different feeling. Anyone else?

itsMYNutella · 22/08/2012 10:58

La la la la la
We saw a very nice buggy/ travel system doo dah early on and it suits us. We're hoping to pick one up second hand. There are a few about and they are quite fancy and recommended for lasting and good quality... So we only have to figure out baby's car seat... If you buy one and then have more children and the car seat has not been involved in any accidents am I right in believing it is safe to use again?

I have put in a Mothercare order ( they currently have 15% off when you spend £100+, I also used a cash back site for another 5% cash back ) but I had to have the parcel sent to my brothers because they can't deliver a packet of muslins to Germany Confused I have no idea why they don't do them here....

Barbeasty · 22/08/2012 11:33

I think car seats usually have a 5 year life if not in an accident. Certainly the baby ones anyway- I assume one that covers a bigger age range than 5 years lasts longer, but haven't looked in detail. We'll be reusing DD's cabriofix anyway.

I only say about thinking ahead because we my dad paid extra for the family fix base, which does the next stage car seat up from the cabriofix. Then, when I looked into it a bit more I realised we wanted to keep DD rear facing for longer. So we could have saved a bit of money on the base.

And I'm not thinking about the pushchair choice any more. I've made up my mind and it will happen!

minipie · 22/08/2012 11:46

Yep nutella I've read it's fine to use the same car seat for your later children (though make sure it's not stored anywhere too hot/cold in the meantime, or dropped), the advice is just not to get 2nd hand from other people in case they have been in an accident or dropped it or kept it badly... I have to say I bet 90% of second hand car seats would be absolutely fine though, but yet again the paranoid first time mother thing comes into play! Apparently they get sweated/dribbled in lots so might be nicer to get a new one anyway though.

Barbeasty I was planning to get the familyfix but hadn't thought about the rear facing thing. When do they grow out of the cabriofix, and what's the next seat up which is rear facing?

I have pretty much made up my mind on the pushchair... it's going to be the Uppababy Cruz... just waiting to see some more reviews as it's very new.

WeeJo08 · 22/08/2012 12:22

Hi everyone, don't know about you lot but I am KNACKERED at the moment. Can't seem to sleep a lot and have to say my back is sore most of the time at the moment. Okay - moan over! Well almost over. Trying to work out the Easyjet rules on pregnant ladies. Their website manages to contradict itself - one document says you don't need a doctor's Fit to Fly certificate and another says you do. Which is fine, because I'm going to to get one to be one the safe side. BUT I have also managed to scare myself by reading other people's stories and have come across some saying that they can be funny about the dates on the certificate, i.e. the certificate needs to be dated within five days of your flight - which is fine for going but what about coming back. I was planning on getting my certificate on Sept 18th (we go on 19th) but we're not back until Sept 29th....do you think they'll accept it? This is obviously apart from the worry that the doctor won't allow it in the first place!!! Eeeeeeek!!

Hope everyone is having a good day - I think I'm going to head to my first antenatal aqua class later - anybody else been to one? Quite looking forward to it Grin

minipie · 22/08/2012 12:35

Hi WeeJo you have just worried me, I am flying with Easyjet on Friday!

I have only seen this page which says no certificate is needed, and you can fly up to 35 weeks. Where's the page which says it is needed?? eek.

MyDaydream · 22/08/2012 12:35

emily I noticed this week I have to turn to the side to reach things on our kitchen window now because bump is in the way.
kate very jealous of you going all night without a bathroom trip.
WeeJo step away from Google, they can't not let you back into the country because your fit to fly certificate is dated pre holiday. I imagine the people who have encountered them being funny about return have missed something out of their story. (spent too much time working complaints handling for different companies, and quite often this is true) I've done aquanatal, I quite enjoyed it and if you do it properly really feel it afterwards, only stopped going because I can't afford it at the minute.
I keep trying to think of what I'm going to need, look and then get a bit scared by all the stuff even though I know most of it isn't needed and what is needed I can buy once I've given birth. I'm holding off buying until we know if we'll be moving though so I don't have to pack loads of extra stuff.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 12:39

Thanks for the suggestions, Portsmouth is pretty close to home so won't go there.

Saw consultant this morning she couldn't find the heartbeat (didn't worry me as I could feel him moving) so did a quick scan which was nice. She said I'm at risk of pre eclampsia again but hopefully it won't come on so badly so quickly.

WeeJo08 · 22/08/2012 13:30

Minipie Sorry to worry you! I am just anxious! If you are flying on Friday you should be grand as you will still be below the 28 week mark, won't you? I just got an email back from Easyjet saying I DO NOT NEED a certificate so I'm going to print that out and bring it with me!! Going to get the certificate too though...just in case! I just worry as they can sometimes be inconsistent - I find their policies change from airport to airport - let alone country to country! I flew with them last week and was asked by a random security person if I was pregnant and how many weeks was I...when I said 23.5 he said "That's okay then" which doesn't instill me with a lot of confidence that all their staff are aware of the "no certificate necessary" policy!

MyDaydream You're totally right...I shall step away from Evil Dr Google! I plan to try and work hard in aqua natal too - want to be the most out of it! Love the feeling of bringing the water :) Can't remember if I told you guys but I was very brave and went in the local outdoor pool on Sunday! Coooooold to begin with but soon got used to it Grin Helped that it was the hottest day of the year!

Spotty How lovely that you got anther scan! It's nice now that we can be reassured by movement too though, isn't it? :)

WeeJo08 · 22/08/2012 13:32

Oh and by the way - just to give you all a good laugh. Was sitting in a (quite important) meeting there now and discovered I have my dress on back to front. Oh professionalism how I miss you.....Blush

acjfluff · 22/08/2012 13:55

Just back from my wedding dress fitting... It wouldn't do up at all! I knew I'd need a lace up back anyway as I'll be 28+6 on the day but had no idea how much it would cost to alter.

Defo going for super cheap baby stuff.

Hope all goes well at midwife appointments today.

MyDaydream · 22/08/2012 14:07

WeeJo Did anyone notice? I once worked with someone who put two different shoes on when she was pregnant, one black, one brown, different heals, different ankle straps.

acj when's your wedding?
I ordered my food shop for this afternoon totally ignoring the fact we have nothing in to eat, I had stale cereal for breakfast and now I'm starving.

minipie · 22/08/2012 14:55

Thanks weejo - I will be 25 weeks on the way out and 26 on the way back so hopefully ok... my bump's pretty visible though so no chance of them not noticing. I am going to print out that page from their website and take it with. Grin at back to front dress. I seem to drop food on myself a lot more than usual, not sure if it's pregnancy clumsiness or just that there is more of me to hit...!

Cookiesandcream06 · 22/08/2012 15:05

Am just waiting for my midwife app now pidj, need to hand my Mat 1b in tomorrow and I still can't decide when I want to go (bubbless I've been thinking I might go early ? I don't think there's any shame in giving yourself a break before the big arrival. I work on my feet too, it's a struggle at 24 weeks so dread to think about 34!)
spotty I think someone suggested it but the Aquarium? Have done it with DD when it rained. Used to be a soft play opposite and it's shut down now, which is a massive bummer during these wet summers. Moors Valley is in Ringwood direction near Ashley Heath and you just pay to park your car- again I would be weather prepared as it is outdoors.

I really hope I'm measured at MW as people keep telling me i'm 'huge' for not even 6 months.. Makes Dec seem even further away.. Sciatica has made a v unwelcome reappearance too.. Walking to work takes me twice as long and I'm I'm agony when I get there
