Here's a new link for us all to chatter on

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ahh, Oz, the land without fancy British tampons .... ? Grin
Or H&M!

Barbeasty · 21/08/2012 13:12

Pidj that's fab.

We successfully moved DD's room at the weekend, and have put a new blind up, with matching bedding and lightshade. She really enjoyed shopping for those. All we need to do now is get a proper single bed so we can turn hers back into a cot and the "nursery" will be ready.

Not so successful on attempt 2 at sorting the pushchair. Went to the shop, who have been brilliant with rear facing car seats, but they've never heard of the extra part we need to convert to the double. We have to wait until they've had the rep in tomorrow so they understand what they're selling us! Really disappointing though. Especially the 70 odd mile round trip!

But I guess I'd rather use a shop who wants to get things right.

Good luck with the upcoming scans and appointments.

WeeJo08 · 21/08/2012 13:17

Feels like ages since I've been on! Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is. It's apparently lots cooler here (London) but I am still melting. I wonder if it is just me though! I am really looking forward to slightly cooler weather in autumn....though the past few years we've had a bit of a mini-heatwave! We're (hopefully!) going away to Spain in September...if the doctor signs the Fit to Fly certificate....and although I know it will probably be very hot somehow it doesn't seem as bad as I won't have to work, there will be air con and a pool!

24 weeks yesterday! Lots and lots of kicks and some pretty big ones that DH has felt - he gets really delighted when he feels them, it's lovely. Can't remember who said it but the book sounds absolutely lovely - I think I will try and get it.

Pidj What amazing news! I would also be daydreaming about furnishings!

pmgkt · 21/08/2012 13:49

Scan was all good, and its a .......boy. now just the consultant to go on Thursday.

knottyhair · 21/08/2012 13:53

Oooh congrats pmgkt Smile!

knottyhair · 21/08/2012 13:59

Can I just ask if anyone has had a CS before? Am I likely to be able to wear a seatbelt a week or so afterwards? I've got 3 different family members inviting us to their's for Christmas (yes it's bloody August!!) and although my instincts say I'll want to be at home, I don't want my 8 year old DS to miss out on seeing his cousins etc. and I can't really face a houseful at ours.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/08/2012 14:06

Yay for team blue pgmkt oh I always forget it!!

I think you can wear a seatbelt do an advanced search on here because in sure I saw a thread recently?

I have a consultant appointment tomorrow wonder if she will say anything about the birth? Or if it's too early? Should get to hear the heartbeat though Smile.

Got an eye appointment in an hour where they take a photo of the back of your eye. They sometimes use drops to dilate your pupils which means I can't see or drive for a few hours after because it's all too bright!

knottyhair · 21/08/2012 14:12

I've just realised I must be able to wear a seatbelt or I wouldn't be able to come home from hospital - duh!! Baby brain is clearly kicking in very early. Good luck with the eye appt later and the consultant appt tomorrow Spotty.

pmgkt · 21/08/2012 14:15

Yes knotty its fine although you will have to make sure its not sat right on your scar. Some people say to put a cushion across so if you did stop quickly there is some protection but I don't remember that I bothered last time. I think I just held on to the lap strap bit so it didn't rub, not sure that would help in an accident though.

MyDaydream · 21/08/2012 14:25

pidj that's such a lovely gesture from your MIL, you must feel such a weight off your shoulders.
Nutella I only try to get DP to feel mine when I can feel it myself because he's so impatient. He'd have felt it much sooner if he could have waited 5 minutes! Hope you get a suitable supplier of baby clothes, my aunt lives in Germany and nobody is allowed to visit without English supplies!
Barbeasty fingers crossed for third time lucky on your pushchair.
Congratulations on your boy pmgt

Bubbless · 21/08/2012 14:36

2blessed so your sat down during the day? this is what i struggle with, i work in a kitchen- im a chef... so im on my feet in a boiling hot kitchen for 9 hours a day.. i have no idea when im going to want to / need to start maternity!

walnut i had the same feelings on the shaving by professional thing, but i didnt want it to be a jungle and them give me a weird look! i think il keep DP as my professional for now!

pmgkt congrats on having a DS! :)

bella i had this yesterady in the same place as you, its just stuff moving / growing / stretching aparently!

pidjin thats amazing! will be waiting to hear about your purchases!

2blessed · 21/08/2012 14:48

Oh Bubbless I can't imagine what its like for you. A hot and pressured kitchen can't be easy. Did you have terrible morning sickness? I was stressing about when to go on leave and I've opted for later, but who knows when our LO's will really come. How flexible is your workplace, as I know that I'm able to change my date with 28 days notice giving my line manager and HR. I'm sat down for most of the day and I'm lucky that I'm (mostly) able to take walking/stretching breaks when I want. Want to come to your house and sample some tasty delights...

I've given up on the idea of shaving and painting my toenails which I just love to do. Will go for a full wax close to EDD but worried that I've not had one for such a long time that it will really hurt but it will make me feel better about myself and prepare me for labour...?

Clarella · 21/08/2012 15:40

Bubbless a collegue who worked in the kitchens finished reasonably early but then it was the summer hols so might have pushed it back. I would aim for late then reassess around Oct half term as I am sure there will still be time to change it. I agree its going to be heavy going, I do feel for you - definately invest in compression stockings!

Sobbed to school and back again but managed to do a serious sort/precious item salvage. Focusing on seeing this pram I'm keen on tonight this afternoon - if it fits boot and seems ok I will be delighted!

Good friends of ours emailed a picture of a very shocked look while holding baby scan, they're 15 weeks but totally the last couple anyone would think of doing the baby thing right now, a super nice surprise, :) someone else to hang out with in spring!

Honey, the Dr seuss idea sounds lovely - yoga teacher mentioned the same with humming/singing etc. I've bought a lovely cd of classical music I intend to get the monkey to sleep to play to baby and can thoroughly recommend it - possibly not enough loud banging tunes for him to hear at mo so got the planets by holst too for a bit o noisy jupiter, that I can also play on the flute - worth a try! It's called 'classics for babies,' double cd, currently doing the hypno thing for mummy! resisting temptation to try to condition him to the archers theme tune as someone I know did, handy for a 2 o'clock nap!

Definately needs to be listening to some reggae too.....

PurplePidjin · 21/08/2012 16:00

Clarella, my mum timed my evening feed for the 6 o'clock news - apparently as soon as i heard the jingle for the local one at 6:30 i was sparko!

utopian99 · 21/08/2012 16:11

pidjin very Envy for your good fortune! Will live vicariously through any news on decoration you share with us here..

Is anyone else feeling a bit nervous about impending growth? The Crumb is definitely in major growth spurt territory now, and I'm aware I've still got only just under 4 months still to go.... argh!

SpottyTeacakes · 21/08/2012 16:16

I feel I'm due a growth spurt, it's been a while!

minipie · 21/08/2012 16:19

utopian yes me! especially since my mum keeps telling me I've got a long way to go - she was enormous with me and is convinced I will be the same. aaargh. I have popped quite a bit in the last couple of weeks - I wish I was one of those women with the neat basketball bump but my bump covers the whole area from boobs to pubes! (I think it's down to me being short petite).

bubbless that must be a hard hard job when you are pregnant. Guess you will just have to play it by ear a bit and be prepared to go off when you need to... I am desk based and currently planning on ending work 2.5 weeks before EDD, I wonder if that may be too little though especially as I am at slightly higher risk of pre term delivery due to the single umbilical artery thing.

MyDaydream · 21/08/2012 16:44

Bubbles you'll be back at work in the next couple of weeks right? Can you arrange to talk to your boss about how they're going to assist you at work and base your decision on that. So if they say they won't be making any allowances plan to go earlier than if they say they'll address any issues your having as they come up. As has been mentioned if you need to get it sorted straight away you can say you'll work until X date then bring it forward if your really struggling.

I'm feeling there's going to be another growth soon, the top half of my stomach is getting bigger where everything is getting pushed up more, so the bottom baby filled half is bound to be growing soon too.

emilyeggs · 21/08/2012 16:57

Gosh! Getting some big kicks at the mo!

itsMYNutella · 21/08/2012 17:02

Bubbless I think once you're back at work ( not sure when the holidays are over) you'll be able to see how you get on and hopefully have some flexibility to help you decide.

Dream yes I have a list for visitors! It's very important although I did manage to find a malt loaf and some plain chocolate digestives a few weeks back which were very much enjoyed (if a little too fast Confused) wish I had some more malt loaf...

Oh and I now have one ever so tender boob! Just the left one, which is my err bigger one (I think) and it is leaking a tiny bit... By just the left one. The right one isn't nearly as sore and hasn't really leaked.
Others with some leakage does it normally start with one?? I'm not too worried but find it very odd.
Warned DP to stay away from them :o

itsMYNutella · 21/08/2012 17:03

And also glad that my DP isn't the only impatient one thanks dream!

SpottyTeacakes · 21/08/2012 17:13

Nutella M&S deliver to Germany for £7.50, they do lovely baby clothes. I think you're team yellow aren't you? They do really nice colourful boys things too for anyone team blue.

Barbeasty · 21/08/2012 18:14

DH's aunt lives in Germany and people always have to take her salt & vinegar crisps, bacon and butter.

My bump is big. A few people now have thought it's due in 2 months at most. I hope it's just that I seem to carry it all out in front. I don't particularly want a bigger baby this time, 9lb was big enough.

PurplePidjin · 21/08/2012 18:39

Wearing maternity stuff, I look massive. Wearing a normal frock yesterday at dn's birthday party, none of the mums believed i was upduffed Confused

Dp just insists i look fab, and the only other person to proffer an opinion is my mum who says I'm "very neat" whatever that's supposed to mean Hmm

HoneyMum21 · 21/08/2012 18:45

Right, i've just done my stupid thing for today - poured milk in the bin. Clever.
