Evening everyone

Friend congratulations on the house.

Seconds hope your doing ok.

Thank you all for the messages I have found today very hard and have spent most of it looking round the house for my little dog. Just put ds2 to bed and he said " mummy why do you have tears in your eyes if you are that sad you could just go to heaven and get him back" if only it was that easy.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok.

Er have I missed some new guidelines? The midwife on the midwives was telling all the mums off for wrapping/swaddling their babies. Said the blanket should be loose? We always swaddled dd, they did it in hospital Confused

lauraloo09 · 04/09/2012 21:29

spotty thinking exactly the same the mw in hospital advised me to swaddle DD and was planning the same this time

pmgkt · 04/09/2012 21:41

It's the new advice in the last few months, I'm not sure but I don't know many newborns that know to kick the covers off, they can't coordinate themselves to do anything else but she said that was why to be loose. We will swaddle

emilyeggs · 04/09/2012 21:51

Aww! I was looking forward to swaddling, It's been done for years and no harm come from it?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 04/09/2012 22:08

Re: swaddling it is more to do with the overheating than swaddling itself. So the way those babies were majorly over bundled and with hats etc is not recommended obv.

We've bought a swaddlepod which is very thin to keep baby in position and them will just lay a blanket over the top.

Clarella · 04/09/2012 22:10

Eh? It's like the parma ham/stilton/smoked salmon equivalent. Haven't they been swaddled since time began?

CODwidow · 04/09/2012 22:11

It is new advice that you shouldn't wrap/swaddle but I will be but also with a special swaddle blanket which is very thin and no hat Smile

Clarella · 05/09/2012 03:21

Will follow suit :)

Ok not a good idea to stray onto November boards at 3 am cos you can't sleep and see they have had 'early arrivals' Confused

SpottyTeacakes · 05/09/2012 06:25

I saw that Clarella!

We had a swaddle blanket from mothercare for dd which was really this and I'll get the same this time. It says not to put anything over it. In hospital though they swaddled her in a massive thick blanket even though it was 209 degrees in there!

SpottyTeacakes · 05/09/2012 06:55

It's not so easy to wee in a pot when you can't see what you're doing Blush

emilyeggs · 05/09/2012 07:27

Just watching the midwife on catch up and am scared to swaddle now! All that talk of cot death also it's worrying. I do think the hats the mothers had on them was a bit excessive though

itsMYNutella · 05/09/2012 08:11

La la la ..... Honestly, if they issued a manual of latest advice it would have to be returned weekly for pages to be ripped out and scribbled on, and whole new chapters stapled in between....
Seriously if our grandparents' grandparents managed to survive whatever was going on at that time I think babies can survive swaddling!

EggsMichelle · 05/09/2012 08:35

I feel exactly like that but with Stilton, yet I am still petrified of eating it, so silly!!! Just watched last weeks episode, so think il watch yesterday's tonight, although DH wants to go to the cinema, not enough hours in the day!!!

Now to commence another boring day at work with nothing to do but browse news websites and write my SILs personal statement!

Secondsop · 05/09/2012 09:18

Hello all. Was discharged from hospital late last night after the numbness on my left side and am bed resting today. All seemed ok (baby seemed fine, kicking the monitors on my tummy) although I haven't 100% recovered the sensation on the left side of my face yet but there doesn't appear to be anything else wrong.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/09/2012 09:38

eggs the nhs website says Stilton is fine as its a hard cheese I've eaten loads of it since I found out.

I shall be swaddling but making sure babies not overheating.

knottyhair · 05/09/2012 09:38

Glad you're OK Second, and that your little one seems happy Smile.

I swaddled DS and plan on doing the same with Rosa. It's got to be about overheating so it's just sensible to make sure the blanket isn't too thick, and I wouldn't put a hat on!

MW appt yesterday and all was fine. Heard Rosa's heartbeat, and I'm measuring 25 (was 24+1 yesterday) which she said was fine. Next scan/consultant appt is in 3 wks on Monday and next MW appt for bloods etc is in 5 weeks.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/09/2012 09:39

second glad you're home and resting!

SpottyTeacakes · 05/09/2012 09:41

Glad all seems ok second

I'm waiting for my scan all on my own, everyone else has their partners with them Sad

knottyhair · 05/09/2012 09:46

Aah Spotty, budge up, we're all with you Smile!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/09/2012 09:53

Oh spotty! We're here for you! Hold your head up high and proud!

Anyone else not able to wear their wedding ring anymore? My fingers swell too much! Makes me Sad not to wear it though!

SpottyTeacakes · 05/09/2012 09:57

Breech today! Measurements all look fine, waiting for dr now Smile he's got such a cute head Grin

emilyeggs · 05/09/2012 09:58

Ditto, we all there with you spotty and glad your doing ok seconds Smile

EggsMichelle · 05/09/2012 10:04

Brilliant news Seconds and Spotty, lots of sighs of relief I'm sure.

That's why I am being silly, I know I am allowed to eat it, yet I am still avoiding it! I suppose it will taste even nicer at Christmas with my pate and baileys breakfast!!!

Brought my knitting to work today to break up the boredom, I would be much better off at home doing house work.

knottyhair · 05/09/2012 10:17

Glad to hear the doctor's so cute Spotty, but shouldn't you be concentrating on the baby Grin??
