Here's a new link for us all to chatter on

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HoneyMum21 · 25/08/2012 08:44

I've got intermittant internet access at the min as we've just moved so having to catch up when i can!
Cookies - so sorry things aren't good between you and your DP. I second whoever it was who suggested dropping your 3 yo off for some 'Daddy time' Glad you've had a bit of retail therapy. Don't worry when the money comes out - it's all stuff you need!
Emily - hope you're feeling better soon too.
I'm going to do some baking today/tomorrow so will pass some chilli-chocolate cookies and possibly some brownies or scones over to the sobbing sofa for anyone who finds themselves there this weekend.

I'm another one who is very confused about weeks/months and when third trimester starts. Different things i've read vary between third starting at 26 week right through to 28 weeks. Does anyone else feel like other people just keep trying to make pregnancy longer?! (i know that's not possible but it feels like people keep pushing me back from the point i thought i'd nearly reached!)

Had a minor panic yesterday when we bought our first packs of nappies and realised that the 70 odd we'd bought was probably not even enough to last a week!

PurplePidjin · 25/08/2012 08:50

Honey, i have 70 odd and they'll last me at least a year Wink

EggsMichelle · 25/08/2012 09:27

I don't have any nappies Sad time to have a massive panic!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 25/08/2012 09:45

Repeat after me - the super market will be open after baby comes! It'll give your OH's something to do when you send them out for supplies!

Sorry to hear you're having a crap tIme cookie, I hope your DP comes to his senses and apologises over the weekend.

After the week's earlier thrush, I have no shame left - knotty I had piles quite early on. I used anusol but as someone else said it took a good few days to do any good so go and get some ASAP.

I'm measuring in weeks, everything I've seen has said 26/28 weeks+ for 3rd trimester so still a few weeks to go for me. I'm going to drag my big fat belly out of bed and go and buy DP a birthday present and maybe some clothes for me as I'm sick of looking like a scarecrow

Enjoy your weekends ladies Smile

HoneyMum21 · 25/08/2012 09:50

hehe Willyou - im looking forward to sending DH out for supplies of nappies and chocolate for me - im not worried about actually stocking up on loads before the birth just at the sudden realisation of how quickly we're likely to go through them. I always knew they went through a lt but actually working that out in terms of packs makes it seem like a lot more!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 25/08/2012 10:02

The maths is scary - 12 per day = 96 per week! So over a big box a week Shock

Bubbless · 25/08/2012 11:34

willyou i went to the dentist a few weeks back and they did some work thats been needing to be done for a while, i earn about .01p too much to qualify for free treatment normally!

nutella i can honestly say ive eaten worse whilst preg that what ive ever done before, you just want comfort food all of the time and a healthy chicken and lentil salad isnt going to hit the spot!!
i sent my DP to buy thrush cream, he was very unimpressed, but got sold it without a question!!

there is a baby event thingy starting at asda soon and they have some realllllly good prices on nappies and wipes and stuff, just unsure as to how much to buy..
anyone on their second child how many nappies did you get as presents with your first?!

cookies sorry to hear its not all fields of flowers your end, im sure the stress of it all is getting to you both! this is where im lucky and my DP works for 10 hours a day
also, when he eventually asks you how you are (he cant never ask you again!) id be a total bitch spin a little story about a fall, and a and e, and scans... i will not be held responsible for the outcome of this suggestion! maybe not, but what a dick he would feel if it had happened! and obviously it would have all have been fine and just another occasion to see bump!

mwahmwah · 25/08/2012 17:32

My advice on nappies: don't buy too many just now - gives u an excuse to leave dp in charge of screaming/ driving u nuts baby whilst u go and stock up! The half hour shop for nappies pretty much saved my sanity with DC1! Xxx

WillYouDoTheFandango · 25/08/2012 18:13

Good call mwah. For those who are interested the ASDA baby event starts today online, instore Monday

emilyeggs · 25/08/2012 18:58

I'm off the sobbing sofa, DH didn't apologise but took me pushchair shopping and actually got involved! Lots of hugs too. Towel gate is forgotten. Stupid fight because apparently its my job to make sure the bathroom always has a hand towel, I told him it not beneath him to get a towel, he said some other stuff, I told him to piss off and if he didn't put towel out he can just have wet hands....blah blah blah. Anyhooo after thinking its between the mother care orb and M&P spin ive narrowed it down the the oyster Hmm Confused. I'm treating myself to one glass of red wine (mixed with lemonade) now to relax. Hope all are well x

Barbeasty · 25/08/2012 20:00

Typed a huge post, then lost it when the internet crashed again.

Clarella they are interviewing next week too, so could be a while. But went ok-although I can never tell. Pregnancy didn't seem to be a problem! Although pregnancy itself isn't a problem in my current department, just the whole not being a man, preferably middle aged thing.

Emily, glad your DP is behaving a bit better, and hope a few others start to.

We have sort of ordered the pushchair today. They won't take money until they get confirmation of an expected delivery date from icandy, but should contact us by Friday with that. So fingers crossed.

DD was wandering round the shop looking at nearly every pushchair, saying "baby Anty like that one". Very sweet. We managed to steer her to the Pear, and just face arguments over who has which seat...

And we managed to confirm the car seat base will fit in the middle seat in DH's car, so we can get a 3rd person in the back still. So success at last.

whatmess · 25/08/2012 20:21

Emily, My DH doesn't apologise either. It used to bug me as I am quick to say sorry even when I think he we are both at fault, cause I can't bear bad feelings btwn us. It still a bit annoying that he can't say sorry but then the actions are there and they speak volumes.

I had a bit of a funny one today. My Uncle and Aunt came to visit. Bit out of the blue and they didn't know I was pregnant. He's an Obstetrician and was really surprised when I said I was 24wks today. He thought I looked about 30wks. He asked if I was getting a GTT done which of course immediately made me think he was worried about Gestational Diabetes. I talked it through with him briefly and he said it could very well be water and asked what my scan Liq Volume result was. It says normal on the scan result and doesn't give any quantity.
I am higher risk due to ethnicity, family history and PCOS. I'm seeing the midwife on Wed and I already have the GTT booked in for 28wks so not much I can do at the moment, but I'm worried and can't help linking my lack of energy and fainting feelings to this.
Hurry up Wednesday.

pmgkt · 25/08/2012 20:30

potty training is going ok. we have pee and poo on the potty and dp is being really great and helpful. i had an awful night last night though couldnt get to sleep til 5 am as every time i started to drift off i was woken up with thoughts that he needed a wee. plus i had a few problems with an old chest injury and that has made me very short of breath and unable to breath deeply. baby was kicking like made which was reassuring though.

mwahmwah · 25/08/2012 20:47

Must be the day for fall outs with dps! My hubby hasn't bn in from work on time this week and has bn starting ridiculously early. Handily that means he avoids the stressful tea time period with the kids and getting them up and dressed Hmm coincidence or what? Doesn't seem to get why i'm pissed this evening... Fecking men!!!

PurplePidjin · 25/08/2012 22:01

Mine's going completely against the tide here Blush

He braved the shops to buy shelves this morning (intolerant of stupid slow people, it's a bh weekend, we live in a tourist hotspot so exceptionally brave of him to even leave the house imo!) then put them up and filled them with books, bought and cooked dinner (butcher's a Villa fan so that was fun for dp) and insisted i nap, rest and have an early night! We've been trying to get these shelves sorted for months, actually having the cash to buy them feels like a real achievement Blush

I sorted my fabric and wool stashes and baked a choc brownie cake which I'll decorate with jungle animals for dn's actual birthday on Tuesday. They (dsil, dmil, dniece (7, asd) and dnephew (5 on Tuesday)) arrive tomorrow hence the frantic activity. Luckily a friend of dsil's from uni lives in a big house in the next town so we don't have to all squish into my 2 bed flat! Dnephew will doubtless have our spare room again though, he often comes on his own for a bit of a treat and as respite for dsil (dniece wouldn't cope it's not that she's not welcome! Her SLD are severe, no speech, limited understanding, challenging behaviour blah blah labelling shite, we love her)

Sleepy hugs to those in need :)

Clarella · 25/08/2012 23:00

Sorry for bad days and a full sofa, hugs all round.

Useful average est cost of nappies link for those who were wondering (disposable)

niewiem · 25/08/2012 23:36

Hmn ladies need some advice on whether to change my doc or not.. Pregnancy is doctor led here and mine is quite young, he was 2 years ahead of me at uni and we had summer practicals together as students so theres a fair bit of familiarity between us..that being said during my last visit he asked about some lower belly pains I had (landed in a&e a few weeks ago due to them but no cause found) and then proceeded to tell me that he knows how I felt as he also had some serious pains in his side that no one could figure out and even his girlfriend didnt believe him untill she wore some sexy lingerie and he still couldnt get it up! Keep in mind that this piece of info was delivered while he was 'rummaging' around in my pelvis! When I told dh he got really upset and said he feels I should see another ob/gyn, I agree that it wasnt really appropriate conversation but not sure if I should get some one else entirely or just tell him during the next visit that I didnt like what he said last time..
Whew! sorry its so long, and sorry for the bad grammer, writing from my phone and the screens tiny!

EggsMichelle · 26/08/2012 04:32

He is clearly unable to keep his personal and professional life separate, and that has compromised you as a patient. It would be better for both of you if you changed professional before he gets himself into anymore trouble.

I also had an "aren't you big" scenario yesterday. Went out for dinner with my SIL (love her to bits, not an ounce of malice in her) who said I was bigger than our other SIL who is 33wks!!! I knew I was a bit fat, but oh dear, must ease off on the chocolate digestives.

Been kicked awake by my little disco diva, he really doesn't care when he sleeps, I sense I will have a challenge on my hands when he is born.

knottyhair · 26/08/2012 07:41

Thanks for all the advice about my "predicament" Blush. Will follow through if you pardon the pun Grin.
whatmess, hope it all goes OK on Weds for you. FWIW my bump seems to be larger than than other people's who are at the same stage, and a few who are farther along than me! My liquid volume result was normal as well, I just think everyone's different but it's good that they will be checking. pmgkt, glad the potty training is going OK. I remember when DS did his first poo in the potty, it was 6.30am and he was so proud, he insisted on taking it up to show Daddy who wasn't properly awake yet. What a lovely way to wake up. niewiem, I'd agree with Eggs, I'd feel really uncomfortable and would have to change drs if it was me.
Not a lot of sleep last night - DS had a friend for a sleepover who must have got up in the night for a million wees and they've been up since about 6. Going to try to convince DP to come and have a look at the pushchair I'd like today - seeing as he has an aversion to "shopping" of any kind, it should be interesting.

Bubbless · 26/08/2012 11:30

emily that sounds better than an apology! although it sounds like you stil have a lot of deciding to do on the pushchair!

whatmess well, youve got a mw appt soon so if there is any problems then it will be picked up / you can voice them- worrying wont help but we all do anyway!

mwah been in your boat this week, dp didnt come home until 2.30am on thurs night, then had to be back in work at 7.45am on fri.. i was far from impressed- and we dont have DC yet, paha.

niew i would just get a new doc tbh, if it made you + DP uncomfi then thats the last thing you need!

going swimming with my DP today (although no water slides for me :( ) and then going for dinner at my nans!

SpottyTeacakes · 26/08/2012 12:03

Just a quick hello, I have been reading all your chat hope everyone is feeling ok today.

Im sat on Bournemouth beach in the sun whilst dp is paddling with dd. she has been poorly with a high temp (typical) but as long as she's dosed up she's happy. Going to spoil us all this weekend Grin

PurplePidjin · 26/08/2012 12:08
niewiem · 26/08/2012 13:00

Thanks for the advice:) will call the practice and ask to be transferred to another dr.
On a happier note, won a snuggle nest in very good condition on allegro (polish version of ebay) for a ridiculously tiny amount, was delivered today by the seller and dh can't stop stroking it!lol

mwahmwah · 26/08/2012 13:02

Lucky u spotty in Bournemouth, Scotland is peeing down today so I've brought the kids to kelvingrove museum. Nice free day out ;o) that's what we like!

PurplePidjin · 26/08/2012 14:07

Mwah, i doubt she's still there, the wind's coming westerly and it's just starting to rain Wink
