Hello and sorry to those on the crying sofa, here, I made some banana muffins. I know they're not chocolate but they are kind of heavy and satisfying in a dense cakey way (I might need to cook them a little longer next time).... But good and bananary :)
And I still missed who it as with the chocolate fudgy brownie muffins... Can you PM me a recipe?
Sorry I can't remember who it was... Confused
Willyou my choice would lie in the middle... i.e what would I buy for me - not the cheapest and not the most expensive. Something in the middle which feels right to me.
Otherwise I'm no help at all... Sorry.

Just checking in to say mighty night! Hope you all g a good sleep. I'm shattered!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 23/08/2012 22:17

Okay thanks both, least I know not to be sucked in by the expensive mattress hard sell! I'll look at the midrange ones and see if we have a kiddicare near here.

Unrelated note - also tmi can we use canestan? And do we have to get it prescribed or will the chemist sell it to me (as in pregnant) if I can't get a prescription cos of the bank holiday? The antibiotics have given me thrush now Sad

Bubbless · 23/08/2012 23:25

if you cant get canestan then get vagasil and make up a story about how your mw said that you could buy it like i did
its all fine to use in 'normal' pregnancy according to my mw, not sure what that means, but she said i was normal :/

dp still not home, doesnt think he will be for another hour..
still has to be in work at 6.45 tomorrow, is that even legal?!

HoneyMum21 · 23/08/2012 23:36

Random question for those who already have dcs - roughly (on an average day) how many nappy changes do you expect to go through?

SpottyTeacakes · 24/08/2012 05:59

Honey probably 12 a day to start especially if breast feeding they seem to poo at every feed!

PurplePidjin · 24/08/2012 07:39

Nutella, you have pm :)

EggsMichelle · 24/08/2012 07:57

Oh I'd like the fudge brownie recipe too, I make a very good peanut butter brownie, mmm....

I love being home in my own bed, two solid nights sleep, it's amazing! But today is gardening and building a BBQ day, I'm very anxious it will go horribly wrong but never mind, it's just a BBQ!

willyou my belly button has also gone suspiciously flat (it makes my belly bar stick out), but iv never had a deep one, a hernia in there as a child meant I had a massive outy for years!

Bubbless · 24/08/2012 08:00

eggs good luck building your bbq, how wrong can it go ;)

still on the crying sofa this morning, DP didnt get in until 2am, and i took him into work at 6.45 this morning- why do i feel like i havent seen him in years?! goodness. might go out to lunch with him later.. mhm.. or dinner. dinner- wheres decent and cheap-ish for dinner?!

im going to bake chocolate muffins today to chipper myself +my companions on the sofa up :)

kate2boysandabump · 24/08/2012 08:05

Morning all, sorry to hear some of you are still feeling Sad

Annelid Congrats to your daughter, you must be very proud Smile

I finished painting the lounge yesterday and then fell asleep for 2 hours Blush Last night DH and I went out for dinner, just the 2 of us as the boys are still away and it was lovely. Although we were sat next to a couple who were clearly on a first date and the man was very nervous and said everything in A REALLY LOUD VOICE. Dh and I were cringing for him, poor bloke.

I'm driving to North Wales today to pick up my boys, I can't wait, I've really missed them. Still I'm not looking forward to the 3 and a half hour drive there today and back tomorrow. I'll have to hope I pass plenty of places where I can stop for a wee Blush

PurplePidjin · 24/08/2012 08:29

3 cups icing sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
3/4 cup evaporated milk
3/4 cup butter

Heat cocoa, milk, butter until all melted and just simmering, put icing sugar in mixer bowl and pour on 2/3 of liquid, start to beat, it should be runny if too stiff add more liquid a little at a time. Beat for about 5 mins (it should form thick free flowing ribbons when you drop it from a spoon) If it gets too runny you can always add more icing sugar. Whilst still warm pour over cakes and allow to cool completely.

That's the icing, give me a mo and I'll link to the cakey bit!

www.bakingmad.com/m/?category=muffins&id=chocolate-brownie-muffins

Cakey bit (i skipped the nuts as an unnecessary expense for a kids birthday cake!)

The icing needs far less liquid than that, btw. I put it all in and had to add more sugar and it was still a bit runny

Bubbless · 24/08/2012 09:10

they look yummy pidjin!

is anyone else having nose bleeds? my nose wont.. gush, its just, whenever i blow it its always bloody and ive never had this before?! is this normal?!

Barbeasty · 24/08/2012 09:46

Bubless I think it's fairly normal, as our blood vessels dilate to carry all the extra blood.

Willyou the mattress advice we were given was that if you intend to use the cot bed for some time (so convert to a bed until they're about 4) then get a sprung mattress. If you're just using it as a cot for a couple of years get a cheaper one.

I don't know whether to get a cheap foam one for the baby for ours, then move back onto the sprung one in a year or so, or just use the existing one.

I'm glad it's nearly the weekend, but have a job interview this afternoon in Birmingham and it isn't until 3pm, so I'm booked on a train back to the office at 5.30! Was in at 7.30 and won't be home until about 7. Doubt I'll even get the job (or be paid enough to commute to Birmingham) anyway.

itsMYNutella · 24/08/2012 10:46

Willyou I suffered some mega thrush about a week ago and the Dr prescribed me some cream and some tablets... not the oral kind... and it was great not having to pay for it :o i'm such a cheapskate

Thank you pidj that's awesome!!

Bubbless nose bleeds are normal in pregnancy, I read about it before and worked with a woman who kept having nose bleeds (poor woman) and it was the give-away that she was pregnant :)

minipie · 24/08/2012 11:03

Bubbless yup I have that too when blowing my nose.

gilsbubbles · 24/08/2012 11:52

oohh little one has ben really wriggly the last few days. Not just kicks but I can feel them moving around trying to get comfy. Its wierd and wonderful but desn't half make it difficult to concentrate in serious business meetings.
Just made a little yelp on a video conference ehn I got a particularly vigorous kick Grin

Dp is away at a stag do this weekend so I have the house to myself. It'll be the first weekend on my own since I moved to Belfast over a year ago and although I'll miss him loads I'm really looing forward to it. Have been thinking that it it may well be my last solo weekend for years... will I even ever want to leave baby for that long just to chillout and enjoy my own company??

OP posts:
Bubbless · 24/08/2012 12:23

thank you to everyone whos reassured me my bloody nose is normal, its very odd!

barbesty good luck at your interview!

nutella i LOVE strolling up to the counter and not paying for my pescriptions, however- the meds i normally pay for (my anti depressants) im not on because im pregnant... talk about annoying!

gils enjoy your weekend, but i hate being alone so no advice as to how to enjoy your own company!

itsMYNutella · 24/08/2012 12:29

oops my mega thrush was actually nearly four weeks ago but it lasted a week... sorry that is probably tmi!

I've been very happy not to have it repeat it's stay despite the crazy hot weather!

gils I think I'd get a bit bored with a weekend to myself but sometimes DP is away for a night or two in the week and it's nice to shower for as long as I want, take my time, eat what I like, how I like.... If I had a weekend free it would be all about trying to meet some of the friends I have here... or plucking up the courage to investigate the town...

PurplePidjin · 24/08/2012 13:26

I suggest you half fill muffin sized cases, then the icing pours on and sets flat at the top ready to be iced. I doubled the recipe and made 33 around that size :o

Good luck, Barbeasty!

pmgkt · 24/08/2012 13:44

Potty training ds1 started today! I'm knackered, but we have had a few in the potty and he is happier sitting on it, chocolate buttons are great.

Barbeasty · 24/08/2012 14:14

Good luck pmgkt. We are half heartedly attempting with DD. She just likes running around with no nappy!

Well, step 1 I've made it to Birmingham in time, and step 2 I remembered to cut the label out of my dress as the train pulled in.

And I emailed in advance to say I'm pregnant. Saves that awkward look of panic as the interviewers try to find a legal way of asking. Although last pregnancy I did enjoy answering the subtle "would you be able to start immediately" with "well, I started maternity leave yesterday. So there would be a delay". 37 weeks pregnant, can't imagine why I didn't get that one!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 24/08/2012 15:31

Good luck Barbeasty fingers crossed for you!

Thanks Nutella, I already had a tube of the 2% cream in for thrush emergencies (I get it everytime I have antibiotics) so I have whacked that on. It really is good stuff!

No nosebleeds here Bubbless but the awful bleeding gums are freaking me out. Booked myself in at the dentist might as well while its free

HoneyMum21 · 24/08/2012 15:39

Just had a major strop at work because a customer stole my pen well, they didn't. I put it down, forgot where and blamed the customer luckily I fumed at my boss and didn't chase the customer down the street.

EggsMichelle · 24/08/2012 15:50

Good luck Barbeasty, I have an interview around my due date, but luckily it is with my current work who have been encouraging me to apply so not so scary/awkward.

Just been very brave and ordered our pushchair and car seat, they come next week. Saved about £150 buying it in the bank holiday sale, and got the fancy cow pattern I wanted!!! Lots of GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

itsMYNutella · 24/08/2012 16:21

ooohhh Eggs how exciting!! :)
We bought a bouncing baby seat from ebay a few days ago. A friend recommended the baby bjorn one because the baby can easily bounce itself; she also recommended buying it 2nd hand because it's fairly pricey... that's probably our biggest individual purchase so far Hmm

Willyou I hope it brings some relief :) I'm not sure how funny they are about selling it to you in the UK (I can imagine fairly chilled) when I asked at the chemist here they wouldn't sell it to me :( I had to go to the Dr first... of course I had to wait until the next afternoon to see the Dr and then practically sprinted to the chemist :o but ohhhh the relief :) sorry...

Pidj goodness those muffins sound so bad they must be great! I'm almost tempted to swap the recipe that I'm supposed to be making this afternoon.... they just sound soo good... in all the pamphlets and crap that people give me for pregnant ladies they always have advice on healthy eating Confused the natural assumption appears to be:
"now you're pregnant you want to eat only the best healthiest food to noursih your unborn child"..... errr chocolate and chips are nourishing aren't they?? I'm a baaaad mummy

Has anyone actually taken up vigorous healthy eating? Am I really a bad Mummy Confused??
