Here's a new link for us all to chatter on

hmm. Is everyone planning to start mat leave weeks before due date? My job is mostly desk based, so was just planning to not arrange to be on site for the fortnight before, but my colleague, who's wife does the same job, stopped a few weeks before as well. Am wondering if I'm being a moron/over ambitious, but I only get the bare minimummat pay so really want to make the most of it!

minipie · 22/08/2012 15:21

utopian I'm desk based and planning on stopping work 2.5 weeks before due date. I could in theory just work from home for those weeks instead but I need to hand over stuff which is tricky from home, plus I do want a couple of weeks just for myself - lots of sleeping, reading and sorting out house and final baby stuff. plus of course there is always the risk LO will arrive early though I really hope not

Mummycox · 22/08/2012 15:31

Pidj I'm at 4 too Smile. Hope all goes well.

Have to investigate squeezy jet rules too, am flying at 26+6 and back at 28+3.... Hmmm

Feeling better now, vacating the sofa with the help of a large crane

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 15:31

I'm leaving eight weeks before Grin but I'm not going back and have a history of being very ill/early baby.

Yes it was nice to have an extra scan even though it was very quick and I only saw the torso!

Barbeasty · 22/08/2012 15:52

I'm starting maternity leave on my due date, but taking 2 weeks holiday immediately before.

My job is a desk job now, because the risk assessment took out all my site based work. So fairly easy to keep going. I did the same last time and then went just over a week overdue.

Minipie I think the cabriofix goes to 13kg, which is about 1 year. There are a few rear facing next stage ones. I have a Britax multitech in my car, and DH has a BeSafe Izi 3 in his.

The biggest problem is where to get them. Because they have to be installed properly there aren't as many places to go, although John Lewis do the BeSafe and the Recaro Polaric. There is a place in Milton Keynes which will mail order too.

I can't remember the website, but it's something like www.rearfacing.co.uk, but if you go on the car seats bit of products on here there's normally a link to it from any rear facing thread! And there are some very knowledgeable people on there too.

It can be a squeeze fitting them in sometimes too.

Be prepared for the prices though.

acjfluff · 22/08/2012 15:52

mydaydream wedding is one month today!

utopian I'm a primary school teacher and I'm starting maternity leave 6 days before my due date. Very late but I really can't afford to start earlier as I want to spend as much time as possible with baby when he's here. Maternity pay is rubbish and DP is a student so I'll need to go back sooner than I want to.

itsMYNutella · 22/08/2012 16:18

My mat leave (if I wasn't freelance) would start automatically from 4 weeks before - insurance rule is practically law here... but DP also booked some time off for Christmas too (we were planning a quiet time away Hmm)
Problem is I think my work might already be slowing down :( because I know I'm not going to be asked to take on any new longer term jobs and so by the end of September that will leave me with only about 4 students a week...

Oh how exciting to hear about your wedding acj! have you namechanged?? Did I miss it?

Anyway, totally was also rather unproductive but I made banana muffins (with some very ripe nanas) while on the phone to my Mum [oops emoticon] I was having a nap when she rang and woke me and I'd meant to have already made the muffins.

Anyway. need to go start on dinner - which should be a nice moroccan chicken thing, but it needs an hour
catch you later ladies :o

emilyeggs · 22/08/2012 16:57

I'm taking two weeks holiday the first two weeks of dec, then starting mat leave (I'm due 28 dec). I work for a cosmetics counter in boots in London and don't think I can manage the December rush. My first Xmas off in.....Hmm can't remember actually

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 16:59

Ooo emily I used to love working in retail at Christmas! It's so exciting! Obviously wouldn't be so fun if heavily pregnant but certainly helps you feel festive Smile

My blood pressure was 90/60 today no wonder I keep feeling dizzy!

ellliebelle · 22/08/2012 17:26

Weejo and others flying soon. With dd2 i flew to spai at 34 weeks and home at 35 really struglled to get fit to fly cert from doctor as had just moved house/surgery and she was a bit funny about it. And then no o e even mentioned about me being pregnant and i was huge.

Regarding mat leave dd1 was due 21st jan and i started mat leave at christmas dd2 was due 5th sept and i went on mat leave on 2nd sept(desk job but long commute) noe im a childminder and will be starting mat leave from begining of sept.

Had a great morning went to watch brave at the cinema with my mum and tbe dd's the cinema had a problem and couldnt play film so we got a refund plus tickets to return a later day and got to watch the film an hour and a half later in 3d rather than 2d.

Unfortunatelt need a place on sobbing sofa though as came home from cibena to a magistrates summons because we are 2 months behind on our council tax and its all my fault cause ive forgotten to pay it :(

MyDaydream · 22/08/2012 17:43

Ellie - court summons are always taken back if you call and arrange to pay. Ive had it happen a few times and it's no problem. It's one of the few things that don't induce fits of tears from me because I know they're so agreeable!
Just madly rushed round town to buy DPs birthday gift, wanted a wooden modelling mannequin thing as it ties in with his hobby. They're a lot more difficult to find than anticipated. Now on the way home to make burritos and birthday cupcakes!

ellliebelle · 22/08/2012 17:52

Thabks for advice daydream do you know if they are usually happy to leave it on monthly payments or will they want it all at once?
Mmmm burritos one of my favourite. Hope your dh appreciates it :) its my birthday in just over 2 weeks totally forgot about it till my num reminded me :) dd2's is just a couple of days before mine so busy arranging her party

Clarella · 22/08/2012 17:54

Pls reserve a place on sobbing sofa for later after gp at 7 and if there's any banana cake left id love some please (with nutella on if possible?), stupid body, stupid thyroid, stupid head, stupid pharmaceutical company and I never know which doctors have the right advice. :(

emilyeggs · 22/08/2012 17:59

ellie I too have had that happen, you can just pay and no action is taken, not nice seeing it on paper though. spotty I love Christmas, I really enjoy working Christmas eve as there's such a buzz in the air. This year we have DH's children Xmas eve to boxing day so i'm super excited! Grin I just hope i don't go into labour early as we have no one to stay with the children.

minipie · 22/08/2012 18:00

Sad what's going on with your thyroid clarella?

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 18:01

Well, bang goes my hippydippy birth at the MLU! Ectopic heartbeat = weekly monitoring and hospital birth under a paediatrician Sad

It's one of those things that "usually has no significance for the baby in future life" but I'm being referred to the consultant due to my history of anxiety...

All three mw's reckon it's absolutely nothing as he wad wriggling away/picked up really early/only indicates a problem if they hear it twice but between that and having bruises in both arms from tricky blood taking i think I'll have 5 minutes of the sofa if you don't mind

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 18:02

Ooo will you do Christmas eve presents for the dc? And read 'twas the night before Christmas'?!

I agree re council tax, ring up and pay it maybe set up a direct debit before the baby comes so you don't have to worry about it?

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 18:07

Sorry to hear that pidj I might have googled Blush and all the results were 'yeah I had that it was nothing to worry about' etc. it seems like they will be keeping a good eye on things anyway. My niece had it when she was born but it sorted itself before the weekend ended Hmm so they didn't end up doing an ECG

Bubbless · 22/08/2012 18:14

whoever mentioned weeing in a pot- is it only me that ends up with wee all over their hands?!

emily if you want to know anything about the sola, pm me! ive just bought it! ive got the carrycot for it, but did get it second hand off of ebay because i couldnt justify the prices..we went for the carrycot because i didnt think a baby would be very comfi lying down and strapped in, because they would just roll off the seat unit when its lying down if not strapped..
my DP works in retail and he cant take any time off, kinda dreading being at home over xmas with nothing to do because im massivly pregnant and DP working all of the hours under the sun!

cookies im glad someone else works on their feet all day! i just have no idea what im doing RE;maternity leave! im 21 weeks now, but i havent been at work all summer so NO idea how il cope! when do you think youll go on mat leave? is this your first? i might just copy you! ;)

can i sit on the sofa? feeling rather sorry for myself with no valid or reasonable explanation!

SpottyTeacakes · 22/08/2012 18:16

It was me who mentioned weeing in the pot! You will be an expert in no time Wink

MyDaydream · 22/08/2012 18:28

ellie they may do a half hearted "we need you to pay it all now" but just explain what you can actually do. It's burritos because I have leftovers that can become fillings and he's working late today to get off early tomorrow, which is his actual birthday. He thinks I'm weird because I've been hiding the birthday cards that've been coming for him all week so when he gets in tomorrow there'll be loads of stuff for him. I love other peoples birthdays!
Bubbless there's always so many so bad they're good films on over Christmas, you just need to get him to position you on the sofa with snacks within reaching distance and you'll be fine!

PurplePidjin · 22/08/2012 18:32

Thanks, Spotty, mws weren't concerned it's just all a bit much atm Sad

kate2boysandabump · 22/08/2012 18:53

Pidj and Clarella Sorry you've both had bad news today. I have no goodies to offer to the sobbing sofa, we have no food in the house at all. Will try harder to Provide in the future.

I've painted half the lounge today Smile I feel very pleased with myself although, my pelvis is killing me from sitting down crossed legged to do the low bits. Now I need DH to come and move the furniture so I can finish tomorrow.

Maternity leave, well I don't get any actual pay, so I guess I finish when I want. I may do a few mornings or afternoons in September and into October and then stop. I'll probably start claiming for Maternity Allowance half way through November. It will be nice to have some extra money at Christmas and when the baby comes.

Bubbles My DH can't have any time off in December either Sad He'll have a couple of days off for the birth and then finish on the 21st for 2 weeks. I'd rather he was at home when the boys were home, if the baby comes before the end of term my friend or my dad will take the children to and from school and I'll stay in the house all day. We'll manage Smile

DH is out this evening so will try and work out how many of us are on each team, now all the scans are done.

Bellaboo123 · 22/08/2012 18:54

I'm planning as working as near to as poss...due 11th - thinking of finishing 26/11 although may have to stop going on building sites sooner! I only get stat mat which is poo so want to work as close as I can so I get as much as poss the other end.

utopian I've got a stokke v2 2nd hand and it came with carry cot. The v1&v2 you'll need the carry cot but the v3 ?ou don't as the seat can be used from birth. Hope that helps!

Bellaboo123 · 22/08/2012 18:55

clarella and pidj hope you're ok - sending hugs x
