Tut @ the parents VQ!! Grin

ValiumQueen · 13/08/2012 20:36

pass if bfing you won't need many. I bought six and two remained untouched. Depends how many bottle feeds you are likely to be giving baby at any one time. If you go back to work when they are pretty much established on solids, they will likely only need two bottles if you feed before you leave and on arrival home. More obviously if you plan to use formula, but I am guessing not as you mentioned the pump. Glad the pain went.

stunt how about a pre-loved Mountain Buggy. They last for ever.

detective that must be hard Sad

kissyfur · 13/08/2012 20:39

Having some horrible tightenings tonight, v uncomfy and lower back hurts a bit. Resting on sofa in the hope they will go, any suggestions for what to do? Never had them with DD

ValiumQueen · 13/08/2012 20:45

Do you need a wee? Do you need to drink more? Does changing position help kissy ? May be worth calling triage just to be safe, especially with your underlying condition. Fingers crossed they soon pass x

TitsalinaBumSquash · 13/08/2012 20:46

Warm bath might stop them? Keep an eye though if they're too painful or regular contact your labour ward just to be safe!

DP asked me what he has to do while I'm in labour, bless him, the only knowledge he has comes from tv shows so he wanted to know if he had to help me control my breathing etc.
I was a bit clueless as to what to say so told him just to follow my lead, give me space but be around, back me up with drs/midwives and remind me that I'm fabulous even when I'm screaming/sweaty and sweary. Grin

horseylady · 13/08/2012 20:57

Had a riding lesson was very good!!

Yes hopefully scan will be ok. Still no idea on names.

I'm going camping wed to fri. Dreading it :(

Hope your twinges settle, I agree re calling.

Feeling very panicked those of you planning on packing bags at 30 weeks!!! That's next week for me?!! I'll be packing a bag for a walking weekend in France lol!!

TheDetective · 13/08/2012 21:02

No bag packing here! I am making a very specific and detailed list for DP to get things if needed for a transfer. If I wrote knickers, he'd bring the sexiest pair I own. If I wrote babygrows he'd bring in one in 3-6 months. He needs instructions to function normally Grin

I am going to set aside one nightie, one pair of knickers, one vest, one babygrow and a nappy and have them to hand to grab. Everything else can be bought in afterwards should we need it. I am hoping and praying hard that we won't be going anywhere!

Need to start thinking about what I need to get for the birth. Have a few bits, but not totally prepared!

daisychain76 · 13/08/2012 21:13

On names, did anyone get the 2013 baby names book that was free with a magazine this month (maybe Practical Parenting?). Very bizarre suggestions - including Orange, Stoney (both for boys) oh yes and a variety of names from TOWIE Hmm

YellowWellies · 13/08/2012 21:20

Oh detective working in the NICU when you're preggers must be so tough! I have so much respect for you ladies though - you rock xx

applepieinthesky · 13/08/2012 21:27

Hospital bags? Eeek! I thought I was organised but when it comes to anything beyond baby clothes and prams I'm clueless. I ordered a book off eBay about childbirth and it never arrived. That's as far as I've got.

horseylady · 13/08/2012 21:42

Apple - think I'm just waiting for the nct course to start next month then prepare!!

Now I think maybe I should pack some bits.....but it'll not happen. Will defo need the bag in the near future so birth stuff would get moved. Unless I use a carrier bag....Then I've got not idea what I need....toothbrush?!

ValiumQueen · 13/08/2012 21:50

And Pads, flannel, deodorant, toothpaste, clean knickers, slippers, dressing gown, nappy, gro, hat, change for phone.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/08/2012 21:58

No wayvq! DD1 has a couple of friends at school called Thora and Ezra Hmm.

I have three top girls names and I change my mind daily. Only Two top boys names, one highways quite near the top of the list and one not on it.

Although they will be growing up in Norhern Ireland and I think there is a different list there must must check.

Just got back from Aquanatal that wasn't on, so swam 30 lengths instead and actually feel fab for it.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/08/2012 21:59

My typos are getting worse!

mrswee · 13/08/2012 22:45

hi all. Just home from work. Did an extra shift after my interview.
Interview went pretty well I think. I still think it could have been better but I was quite nervous. It's difficult because the role and the department don't exsist yet and they asked me how i would run the department but I have very little information so far to go on! I asked lots of good relevant questions at the end, and came off a lot better during that discussion than I did when on the spot answering direct questions so hopefully that helps.

If I get the job I will have to travel for a couple of days to Northen Ireland and down south to see how the set up is else where in the company. I didn't say so in the interview but I was thinking... I hope it's in the next 5 weeks or I won't be able to fly!!!

They never mentioned my pregnancy (just as well). I don't know wether to now say what I intend to do about my maternity or just leave it.
I am intending on working up to 38 weeks and using my 10 keeping in touch days to come in to work once a month to keep up to speed if I get the job that is. so it might be good to tell them that but at the same time one of the guys who interviewed me, might not even know I am pregnant..he works else where so doesn't know me. Apart from the massive bump, he might not have been told.. my outfit did hide it quite well though.

thanks for all your good luck wishes!!

25 weeks... only just rememberd to get DH to hand in my matb1 to his work.. it needs to be done this week.

mrswee · 13/08/2012 22:48

oh and yes I'm getting kicked in the boobs now too but mainly cause they are resting on my bump.. Hmm

I was so out of breath coming home today and there's me pretending like the pregnancy is a breeze and I can spend the last 3 months of it setting up a new department at work... Shock

GTbaby · 14/08/2012 01:36

Hiya all. Been busy for a few days. Takes ages to catch up!

H has also been asking me questions. That make me think, Ur a prat! N others were I think, no idea.
I can't drink when we go to this wedding in October, ( 5 days before due date ) ? In a very disappointed tone.
How is the baby eating in ur tummy?
What is the first signs of labour? ( me - don't know actually)
What happens if I'm at work? Will u call me? Wtf. No I'm going to go to hospital give birth n call u when I have a min. (sods law this will now happen Blush)

In waiting for him to grow up ATM. He is really winding me up. Wish I could say it was hormones. He is just a typical guy who thinks about himself before anyone else.
When u have a baby, do u live for urself or ur baby? Me- everything I eat, drink, do/ don't do is already for this baby. Whereas ur a selfish prick.

Oh dear I'm in a very grumpy mood today.

Iheartpasties · 14/08/2012 06:19

oh my goodness I was so unorganised last time, I didn;t have a hospital bag packed. whoops. I don't really know what I'd want in one.

mrswee · 14/08/2012 07:57

Hospital bag - I didn't use much that I had packed in my bag the last time to be honest. But then I begged to get out of there very quickly after a very long labour where I used nothing from the bag.

For the baby I used:
the blanket,
one set of clothes- they don't tend to wee every where and poo or puke much in the first 24 hrs
One muslin
Non of my nappies as the hospital kept giving me them.

For me I used my pants and pads and one change of pjs. My feet were so swollen I couldnt get my slippers on. I was to tired to read and too busy with visitors.
The most important thing I had in that bag was a box of cereal bars and some juice - I gave birth at 6.50pm after 20 hours of being in the hospital. I didn't get to the ward till almost 9, missed dinner, given tea and toast - one slice and nothing until 8 am. I was so hungry, hadn't eaten anything in labour and all the hospital cafes and shops were shut. I had some herbal tea bags but they wouldn't give me hot water, only tea becuase of health ans saftey Hmm hello tea is hot water!!!!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 14/08/2012 08:16

daisy yes I got that name book! I thought the names were much more realistic than some other name books though. The name we're using is in there but I'd thought of it before getting the book. The middle name isn't in there though. But then I like slightly unusual names so it was right up my street!

26 weeks today, although the mw said she made me 26 weeks yesterday so I'll go with that!

I've got no plans today, I hate the summer hols I can't take my toddler anywhere because it's crammed with school age children. We end up going to the park/ beach alot but then I can't walk all that far either so that limits things.

DebussyHead · 14/08/2012 09:14

I dont think I'll pack my hosiptal bag till after 36 weeks when I am on mat leave. I cant even remember what I packed last time but the best thing I took in was the pillow from my own bed. The hospital ones are all hard and scratchy and it was lovely having my nice down filled pillow that smellt of home! Think I used 2 babygrows as was in 2 days and hospital provide nappies and pads so you dont need to pack those. I am off to Lanzarote for a fortnight at 31+2 weeks so the only packing I am thinking of is maternity swimsuits and sun hats!

Regarding names we are having a boy and planning to call him James too. Lots of James'! - but it is a lovely classic name. It was the name we would have given DD1 so easy just to keep it for our first son. It is my Dad's name and we will call him Jamie as I think that is cute and goes well with my DDs name. My dad is Jim or Jimmy (we are in Scotland) so there wont be too much confusion and think my Dad will be really touched.

ValiumQueen · 14/08/2012 10:00

James is a lovely name.

I shared my name with two others in primary and three in my secondary class, which is why I am so against the more popular names for my children. Having said that DD2 has a shortening that is very popular, but with boys, which makes it beyond cute as far as I am concerned. Still no further with my little boys name.

I took my pillow for my natural birth and it was very comforting. With the section it did not make a scrap of difference as I could not get comfy whatever I did. I laid down flat once, but struggled to get up so will not be doing that again. I can highly recommend it for first timers most definitely.

Iheartpasties · 14/08/2012 10:05

wow, my bump is going mad! I love it when they move and wriggle loads, it just makes it all feel so much more real. This is what I remember form last time, lots of wriggling. Those first few months felt so wierd to me as this is the stage I seem to remember the most from last time.

I bought $40 worth of fabric today in the sales, I must try and stop buying so much!! I am crocheting a baby blanket for my friend, gotta get it done for the 2nd sept, she's having a baby shower then.

DesperateHousewife21 · 14/08/2012 10:08

My ds' middle name is James :) it works so well with loads of other names too.

Over on BabyandBump everyone seems to say the third tri starts at 26 weeks, but I always thought it was 28 weeks? I guess if you go by months then you are two thirds done by 26 weeks but by weeks you still have 12 to go at 28 weeks. Maybe Ill go down the middle and say 27 weeks then!

Iheartpasties · 14/08/2012 10:33

Yes James is a fab name. It's not on our list but I still love it :)

We will go for a Cornish name :)
