The pump will only fit the same brand of bottle, usually anyway, and Tommee is very wide necked. I used an avent pump and Tommee bottles, but had some avent bottles to pump into, then just decanted, usually to freeze in other containers anyway.

In Tesco direct last week they had 4 Tommee bottles half price at £8. Microwave sterilisers are excellent.

Yeah my sis went into hospital with her 2 year old son and a Thomas Tank Engine mag for him - and nowt else when she went into labour very early (27 +3) with her daughter. There is sod all you can take with you that is likely to be of much use for a prem - a) because you're not allowed to put anything in the incubator initially as most sentimental items are an infection risk and b) no clothes will fit (or be needed for the first few weeks when the NICU supply wee hats and the tiniest nappies you'll ever see). So I wouldn't worry about packing a bag for early labour as others have said.

Our little one has permission to arrive (from me!) anytime from mid September (I just want to get above 30 weeks given family history!) so will start packing a bag then. Have got some wee prem clothes from my sis just in case which will go in and be taken out as (hopefully) we tick off the weeks! Have also got lots of chubby monster clothes too for when I'm feeling more optimistic! Grin

Chunkychicken · 13/08/2012 17:42

I had a medela swing pump & closer to nature bottles - I was rarely transfering directly into a feeding bottle (the medela ones are quite small), usually into freezer bags as VQ said. It didn't matter which bottles we used as DD mainly got it direct from source, although I imagine if you are planning to feed directly after expressing, it might be worth having the same brand bottles & pump.

NervousAt20 · 13/08/2012 17:49

I've got stuff off eBay so many times and never had any problems and now I get 2 in a row Angry this time I brought something last week and paid straight away and it was earlier morning so says will post in 1 business day so think well forget today and count as tomorrow so all week goes by, it was ment to arrive today, and it's still not marked as shipped so Friday night I get a message from the seller saying sorry we've had computer problems your item will dispatched tomorrow (Saturday) so Saturday night it's still not marked so I message back and ask then they say something like as I've already told you weve had computer problems so you'll have to wait until Monday Hmm don't tell me your sending it Saturday of you not and today it's still not marked as shipped!!! Grrrr

Trivial moan but I'm so annoyed

ValiumQueen · 13/08/2012 18:10

eBay can be a bit hit and miss. Moan away nervous

My blueberry wrap arrived (nappy not food) and it is awesome. Little owls on it, so DD will be wearing that one to bed tonight Grin

kissyfur · 13/08/2012 18:11

Well done on the buggy win dh21 and glad you're happy with yours vq Smile

Sorry to hear morning sickness has returned for some Sad

Had my joint cardiac and obstetrician appt today, good news is they are recommending I have an ELCS, which I wanted. So all being well i'll have the baby on 14th or 15th November Grin Not so good news is that they told me the results of my echocardiogram that I had last week and I've got a leaky valve in my heart, they didn't sound too worried but I'm a bit Sad about it. Just hope it goes away after I've had the baby! Got to have a 24 heart monitor thing on my heart on Thursday too as I've been having a few palpitations. Think this will definitely be the last baby I have, not sure my body is up to another one!

ValiumQueen · 13/08/2012 18:19

Not sure that would ever go away kissy although I am no cardiac expert. I am amazed they have never picked up on this before. Good news on the ELCS. Good they're looking after you, and yes, perhaps best to have no more babies after this. You need to keep you safe for the babies you have.

daisychain76 · 13/08/2012 18:28

Just clicked on to mark my place and realised its 8 pages in already!

I sympathise with those struggling to sleep - I am up every night either with loo trips, arm aching (trying to keep on left hand side but struggling) or just with random anxiety attacks when my brain starts whirring away over something and I cannot get back to sleep.

Didn't help I missed yoga this week as it was DS's 8th birthday party (at exactly the opposite end of the relaxation scale!). Got quite wobbly at how quickly they grow up - it doesn't seem that long ago I was buying baby clothes ready for his arrival.

kissyfur · 13/08/2012 18:35

Sorry vq I prob should have explained a bit more of the back story, I was born with coarctation of the aorta, it was fixed when I was 3 and I've never had problems in life because of it. Just have to be more careful in pg. the consultant did think the leakiness would prob go after baby is born, she said the extra fluid in your body in of can cause it. So fingers crossed it will go Smile

StuntNun · 13/08/2012 18:49

Candy it's only the electric Tommee Tippee breast pump that has bad reviews. If it's the manual one in the kit you described then that's probably fine, I used it with DS2 and liked it a lot better than the Avent manual. Everyone has different boobs though so who knows!? Unless you're planning to express a lot you won't need an electric pump. I'm thinking about getting one because I have elbow tendonitis and I've breastfed twice before so I'm pretty confident I'll be using it for a while. I'll probably get the Spectra 3 and just use Avent bottles because I have loads of them already. I've only got a small freezer so I won't be able to build up a massive stockpile of milk anyway.

Peaky1 · 13/08/2012 18:53

Thinking of the breast pump and bottles convo - am I being a complete dumbarse thinking that it shouldn't matter? I imagined that you could pour the contents into whatever bottle/bag from the bottle it's collected in...I've got a medella swing from ebay and...I think it was a nuuby bottle set that I bought from the baby show with steriliser etc. I plan on breast feeding but also expressing if I'm able. I'm kinda hoping that I can do all that with what I've got. This is all going on the idea that the baby will comply with this plan!

StuntNun · 13/08/2012 18:58

Yes but heaven help you if you knock it over or spill it while pouring Peaky. I remember crying because I knocked over a 4 oz bottle of expressed milk. It's way worse than when you accidentally drop something on the floor while making dinner!

OP posts:
ValiumQueen · 13/08/2012 19:00

Wow I didn't know that kissy fingers crossed it will go.

You are quite right peaky it doesn't matter. Just decanting, which you will probably need to do anyway.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/08/2012 19:13

yw have just looked at our list for the first time. Wow. I will defo be stealing your labour bag list.

TheDetective · 13/08/2012 19:38

I'm feeling a little melancholy at work at the moment. Lots of babies due at the same time as us are being born. It makes it hit home really.

I'm all hot and bothered this evening, and its not warm??! I feel clammy and horrible! Sorry to those suffering the vom again, I've been clear since 21 weeks now. I'm praying it doesn't return for me!!! Please please please!

Anyone else perusing the 2011 baby names list that came out today? There were 263 baby Alans last year. Who on earth is calling their baby Alan. Seriously?!

I need a boy and girl name (to keep my mother happy!) but I'm about to give up. I just can't find a name that I love than isn't massively popular :(

I still love Jacob, but it is up to number 7! And its going to be even higher for this years babies. Trust me! I wish DP's name didn't start with Th, its ruled loads of good names out!! I quite liked Heath, but can't have Heath Th.... no.

Peaky1 · 13/08/2012 19:51

Cheers ladies. I'm sure I will blart if I spill any so lets hope I can reduce my usual clumsiness!

Debussy - I am totally with you on uncomfy bump. I'm constantly stretching upwards in an attempt to relieve the full/tightness that I'm feeling. 3 quarters of my dinner is sitting untouched in the hope that i'll feel hungry later but all I want is an ice lolly out of the freezer for this heart burn. It's nothing major but when it niggles all day it starts to get on your tits by the evening doesn't it?!

As for names and the whole girl/boy thing, I've been told on 2 scans that it's a boy and it did look very obvious but damn you people for planting the seed of doubt, lol! Oh well, if it's a girl she's stuck with a blue nursery and boys clothes for now. If it is a boy then he will be called James, a name that I decided on many years ago and have always loved it. I don't mind how many James' there are, it's a great name!

MissMummy1 · 13/08/2012 20:04

We've had a boys name agreed from day 1 that we both love. Really wanting a name that has loads of personal meaning for us as a couple and DH came up with a beautiful girl's name the other night - middle names the lot! It's a little quirky but not too 'out there' if that makes sense? I'm almost pretty certain we're having a boy but we're sorted for both now :-)

DonnaDoon · 13/08/2012 20:04

Peaky I ve got a James and he is adorable (if I do say so myself)...We actually call him Jim-Bob because he is James Robert :)

Peaky1 · 13/08/2012 20:07

Ah cool! He may have the middle name of Joseph so my Dad is already banking on it as for some reason he really wants the idea of JJ as a nickname. Something to do with it being an Irish thing?

Chunkychicken · 13/08/2012 20:11

I'm getting very attached to one girl's name and getting a bit worried that a) she could well be a he and b) it won't suit her. Hadn't got 1 name in mind for DD, just went from a mental shortlist very soon after she was born so it feels almost odd to have a certain name in mind...

Passmethecrisps · 13/08/2012 20:16

Hello ladies,

I survived my first day back after the holidays! Just wait until the kids come back and I will be knocked for 6. It was nice to be back - lots of people saying how well I looked. One person said "who ate all the pies? Look at your boobs" but that was it. Someone else asked me of I was "planning on continuing this whole 'independent woman, I'm no different' thing". I asked this person what the feck he expected - I am pregnant not sick. I am really lucky that I have kept well so why should I act handless?

Anyway, thank you VQ for your thoughts on my pain. I had it until about 11 this morning then it went away. I did wonder about the nerve idea. Seems to have gone away now so thank you for the reassurance.

peaky I saw the Tommee Tippee set on Amazon. I was given a breastpump but need a steriliser. I will want freezer bags so I am unsure how many bottles I will actually need.

We have decided to go for a Moses basket and try the wee one in our room or a wee while. I know it's churlish but someone today telling me that "the advice is quite clear. You must have baby in with you" made me foot stomp a little. I despise being told what to do - I love information and guidance but don't tell me I have to! Despite this, we are going to get a Moses basket.

Seeing all the wee premature babies must be tough detective.

DonnaDoon · 13/08/2012 20:18

JJs cool Peaky....and yes Chunky we have always waited to choose name when baby s born because hubby says he needs to see it first...hmmmm...we do have a mental shortlist though...but strangley this time I m pretty definate on a name already.

StuntNun · 13/08/2012 20:19

Barring an unexpected girly arrival, this DS3 will be James Andrew and my surname starts with S (no it's not really Stuntnun) so I was thinking J.A.S. = Jase for a nickname. Way better than DS1 and DS2 who got lumbered with Stinky Sausage and Little Lord Voldemort as nicknames by DH. If they have issues when they're older I'll know where to start pointing fingers.

I have had a sudden panic about pushchairs and wondering whether I should buy a new one after all. I already have a well-used and battered stroller so I just need one from birth to toddler size. Can anyone recommend one that has big chunky wheels for going on gravel paths, beach etc. but will still fit through shops? If the new puppy's anything like the last one I'll be walking several miles a day for the first year or so. I was looking at the Quinny Buzz but the reviews say it's very wide and won't go round shops easily. The Uppababy Vista looks fab but the price is just ridiculous given the number of pushchairs and car seats I have already bought over the years. The one prerequisite I don't have is size when folded as my car had a huge boot. I don't fancy a carrycot much, just a pushchair and car seat will do as baby will be in a sling a lot when he's small. I think a trip to Mothercare will be in order at the weekend.

I have an Alan Sad. Only joking Grin but DD1s best friend is called that.

TheDetective · 13/08/2012 20:21

JJ is bumps nickname, as the name we originally picked was Jonah Jacob, but now not so sure, but still calling him JJ for now :)
