I have heard growth scans are as accurate as trying to guess the weight of a man in a bathtub whilst in the adjoining room. I was told DD2 would be 8lb. She was 10lb3.

TheDetective · 20/08/2012 16:21

Oh the irony Horsey!!!

I went to McDonalds. Twice. In one night. And had the same meal.

I can eat my weight in fruit, veg, pasta, salads, potatoes, as well as crisps and other crap!

Ironically it seemed the less I ate (with the hyperemesis!) the better it grew!

I'm not gaining weight particularly, that is true, but I don't need to!

It isn't really down to what you eat though...!

Genetics, smoking, lifestyle, high BP, those are the kinds of things that affect weight. Other than stress, I don't have much else to blame. DP's genetics aren't exactly small!

I blame stress. Specifically work stress! Sign me off anyone?!

TheDetective · 20/08/2012 16:22

No, growth scans aren't especially accurate.

TBH. Scans in general are not that accurate.

ValiumQueen · 20/08/2012 16:27

I thought horsey was taking the pee Grin

TheDetective · 20/08/2012 16:31

Oh Blush I did consider it for a moment though. Lack of sleep 'n' all that!

TheDetective · 20/08/2012 16:34

I've picked up quite a few bits of next baby clothing off eBay this week. I'm still surprised and a little nostalgic to see the things I dressed my DS in 10 years ago being on there! Have resisted buying any so far. But I don't know how long that will last if I find certain things Grin

On the subject of eBay. Are some people mental? £4 postage for ONE babygrow???!

I've got a dunagree set for 99p which has literally just come out in the new Next directory, and is £13 new! Glad I waited for it on eBay!!

applepieinthesky · 20/08/2012 16:42

I love Next?s baby clothes. Half of my baby?s wardrobe is from there. We said we wouldn?t be buying any more clothes but I?ve got my eye on a few things I?m getting next week after payday. Might scour ebay for them first though.

applepieinthesky · 20/08/2012 16:44

I have got terrible acid reflux this afternoon to the point where I keep thinking I?m going to be sick Sad What's best to take for it?

MissMummy1 · 20/08/2012 16:44

Bit of a dilema. Seeing a client this evening we'll ignore the fact they've taken advantage of me being their autistic son's tutor and want me basically to babysit their 3 kids tonight. They've cut my hours as they have big money worries and I received an email from them this morning basically saying they'd like to stop tutoring until december. Ahh. It's just dawned on me I've never actually told them I'm pregnant as I only ever see the parents for a couple of minutes each session, and I am still - amazingly - at the size they could just assume I'm a bit fat (remarkable if true at 26 weeks but hey ho). So basically I'm losing about £200 a week - as of today - and have no idea how to go about explaining 'I didn't realise you didn't know I'm 6 MONTHS PREGNANT!' ahhh :-(

DH is driving me mad today as well. I think he thinks I'm using pregnancy as an excuse to be useless. Is it wrong I'm counting down the days till he goes offshore again?!

Elizadoesdolittle · 20/08/2012 16:47

There was sugar in my urine for the second time running so now got to go for the glucose tolerance test. Bit of a pita but there we go. Everything else fine and baby measures 29cm which according to the midwife was fine. These measurements mean nothing to me!

Off to pregnancy Pilates tonight which will be lovely and relaxing after my busy weekend. Mind you have done very little today so should be fairly relaxed as it is!

Elizadoesdolittle · 20/08/2012 16:50

applepie gaviscon works for me. I hate the stuff but I know that once I've taken it the acid feeling goes away. Heartburn is horrible!

ValiumQueen · 20/08/2012 16:52

detective I think horsey was being genuine. It was me being catty (oh the irony) so no need to Blush

missMummy surely they should give you notice?

applepieinthesky · 20/08/2012 16:55

I?ve had it since about 7 weeks but not taken anything for it because although I know Gaviscon is safe in pregnancy, I don?t like taking any kind of medication unless absolutely necessary. I was like that pre-pregnancy as well. But today it?s unbearable, I have to take something.

MissMummyDon?t they have to give you any notice at all? Do you have a contract?

StuntNun · 20/08/2012 16:56

I heard that the weights they give you at your presentations scan are + or - 25% which is a pretty big margin for error.

Vq/detective I've got no idea what makes babies grow. It puzzels me when small people have 11lb ones big people have 6lb ones etc. Comment was slightly Tongue in cheek though :) so perhaps taking the pee pot :)

misslaughalot · 20/08/2012 17:33

Hey everyone, have missed MN while I've been away, although it's been fab to have a proper break. Welcome to all our new November members!

Just about caught up with the thread. I'm finding sleeping difficult too. Spent 5 nights in a static caravan single bed which was tricky with all my extra pillows. However, our brand new superking bed arrives on Wednesday! Can't wait to have all that extra space without DP smacking me in the face each time he turns over

Good to hear DH21 and Stuntnun had good results scan/hospital wise. Hope everyone else is keeping well.

Loving the pee pot chat! I get mine taken off me each time, and usually remember to collect a new one from reception, but completely forgot last time so will have to pee on demand in a couple of weeks. Peepotlaughalot has quite a ring to it!

Seems I've also missed some baby name chat. We now have shortlists for both girls and boys names. If it's a boy it'll probably be a Finley, Samuel or Ethan and if a girl then we like Olivia, Lauren or Eleanor. Someone mentioned Poppy earlier in the thread though and that's pretty too! Tricky decisions!

Also did our first supermarket shop online last night. Why, oh why, oh why have we never done this before! Can't see me ever stepping in a supermarket again Grin. I think we're going to try them all and use all the first time shopper discounts and then plump for the one that delivers best.

27 weeks today...

MissMummy1 · 20/08/2012 17:51

I was only ever working for them on an adhoc basis and knew this day would come. Just naively hoped it would be in November when I was actually ready to stop working. This also means I'm no longer entitled to SMA stress!!! Going to step into a jobcentre for the first time in my life now and see if I can find someone to tell me just how financially screwed I am. Joy....

horseylady · 20/08/2012 18:04

Missmummy hugs!! Hope all ok.

MissMummy1 · 20/08/2012 18:11

Thanks horsey I'm okay just a bit stressed about money. Losing a small amount now is fine but it's the long term impact re maternity allowance. Dh is being crap - his attempts at sympathy are bury his head in his bloody car and pretend we will manage on 1 income. He earns to much for me to be entitled to any real help from what I can tell but our outgoings are pitched at our combined salary. Feck feck feck :-(

Sorry for the ranty miserable post.

CandyPop · 20/08/2012 18:16

I sympathies with those with sleeping issues. I get up 4-5 times a night now either for toilet breaks or changing from an uncomfortable position . Also worried I'm still squashing baby from the side. I try my best to sleep on my left but I think bubba likes the left too. So when I go on my side , she starts wiggling and kicking.... Is this normal?!

Really annoyed.... I wanted to use the babiesrus discount code on Sunday to get the tommee tippee starter pack but they didn't have anymore available for delivery which meant I missed out on the 20% off :( do these discounts come up often? Gonna wait to the next one .....

Exciting week this week. Have my first ante natal yoga class this evening and then on thurs have my 4d scan. Gonna see bubbas face for the first time. Roll on thurs!!!!

horseylady · 20/08/2012 18:16

Miss mummy we've figured out were ok on my mat pay. We just have to hope the mortgage goes down next year when paying for nursery fees (which are not huge in comparison to some people's!!) but well see what happens. There's more cutbacks we can make if needed.

Mum always says you just find a way to manage. I guess you do but it still doesn't help matters!! How come you won't get sma? Because you're no longer employed? I have no idea how things work, I just told work!! And did the maths!!

WaitingForMe · 20/08/2012 18:20

ToysRUs offers are near constant Candy. They seem to rotate through different parts of the shop. Just hold tight and get in quickly next time.

I just got this set of photo shoots on Groupon. Worth a look for anyone who can do Cheltenham or Hereford.

izzybizzybuzzybees · 20/08/2012 18:29

Hello everyone. Some of the names mentioned are lovely, we are team yellow and have a long shortlist so goodness knows what baby will be called.

I have my 28 week antenatal clinic appt at the hospital tomorrow.will be seeing consultant and midwife. They might see me a bit more often due to my previous history when DD was born.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 20/08/2012 18:34

Hang in there missmummy it will find a way of sorting itself out. In the meantime rant all you like, you are entitled to that at least. Am sending you these Thanks to cheer you up in the meantime.

...I also feel need to rant......

AaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhAngry stupid house move.

Passmethecrisps · 20/08/2012 19:02

Sorry about tutoring coming to an end missmummy. Bad timing.

I am totally and utterly knackered today. I slept so poorly - back ache and constantly waking. I think I wake then need a wee rather the. Wake because I need a wee. We are sleeping with the windows open so there is a fair amount of noise. I was woken this morning at 5am by someone getting out of a taxi shouting "I'm the king of the world"

I have been preparing myself for a newborn by looking at worst cas scenarios - feeding, sleeping etc. if I can prepare myself like that then everything else should be a bonus.
