Just a local one in East Sussex horsey - very small fry but my polox friends certainly livened up the gymkhana! i'm not bold enough for eventing - never mind my horse!!

Well, it's 9 o'clock and I'm just off to bed - is that terrible?! I just can't keep my eyes open any longer...

horseylady · 19/08/2012 21:07

I miss games :( lol used to love it on my pony!! That and jumping and hunting! She's a cracking jumping pony! Hope her loaners get some good out of her.

Sadly my big mare would prob kill me at games!! And the only hound exercising meet we made last year she turned herself inside out in the first 10mins then settled beautifully. Endurance was following a similar suit!!

Just sat on dh knee who told me I was 'quite heavy now' lol

Passmethecrisps · 19/08/2012 21:13

Evening all,

Just popping in to say hi. I hope stunt is taking the advice given.

We had DH's sister and BIL for lunch today. Was very nice. I made pavlova for dessert and have eaten 3 slices. Delish!

There are so many things happen on here that I haven't commented on - I feel so rude!

Hello to all newcomers - you will like it here.
Congrats on upcoming nuptials. A blushing bride is always beautiful particularly if the blush is a pregnant glow
I have been pretty tired of late too. I had to nap this afternoon after lunch. 7 weeks to go at work though.
I am enjoying being pregnant - I was loving it during the hols mind you! I have back ache now on a daily basis and am feeling the weight of bump. I am still ever thankful of what an easy ride I have been having.

One thing actually. Is anyone else with cats getting lots of chat about how difficult it will be? Everyone seems determined to tell me about how jealous the cat will be, how dangerous it is and how upset the cat will get. Surely some cats get on fine. I know not everyone likes cats - I am not a massive fan of dogs - but I don't understand the endless negativity.

Passmethecrisps · 19/08/2012 21:15

Just remember it is all relative horsey!

For just popping in, that was a long post

ValiumQueen · 19/08/2012 21:18

Thought I was in Horseland for a minute... If I went riding I would need a Shire Horse. Or two.

horseylady · 19/08/2012 21:31

Pass lol he said it nicely while meaning get off me I'm not really worried tbh I can't do anything about it!! The horse isn't complaining yet

Were supposed to be going to France this bank holiday weekend but there's a massive heatwave. Am considering not going (still!!) ESP if they're walking a lot! I def won't be able too just wondering if it's too risky?!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 19/08/2012 21:44

stunt I hope you're ok!

I have Cats, they've been entirely uninterested in me since they became outside wanderers, as long as they're fed they don't care, I have had to tap our little pure black girl (Peaches) on the nose a couple of times when she made bed in the pushchair, she hadn't done it since and they're not allows upstairs, I'm not worried about them co existing with little chap at all.

Lots of Barton hicks today and some sharp painful kicks in what feels like my cervix (thanks little guy!) also had a very nice Latin dinner which ended up in the toilet, I think it's just heat making me spew.

Sorry if anyone's mentioned it already but Boots have a baby event with most things 3 for 2 until Tuesday, I'm going to get the Angel sounds monitor and bath and swinging chair if I can.
I brought maternity pads and breast pads today for my hospital bag, I'm going to get mine packed in the next couple of weeks to be on the safe side.
Midwife tomorrow and lots of lovely bloods Hmm in hoping it's cooler.
DP has the week off next week, I'm looking forward to it because I'm exhausted and looking after the boys is such hard work!

I noticed my skin is starting to go Sad more stretch marks for me.

WaitingForMe · 19/08/2012 21:49

DH and I just exchange knowing looks when people mention issues with cats Passmethecrisps. It really annoys them but shuts them up Grin

Can't believe I'm "allowed" to have a baby.I can be so immature.

horseylady · 19/08/2012 21:51

Tits thats when I got my monitor saved a reasonable amount if money in their event!! Thought it ended today but could be very wrong!! Also got the changing bag free!

horseylady · 19/08/2012 21:54

Pass I think people in general (re the cat comment) are like that. I've got cats/dogs/horses/chickens/sheep but I'm pretty sure as long as all are fed, watered and exercised to some degree they'll live!! Yes it will be different but animals live in the moment not the past or future. It really bugs me when people put human emotions into animals......

Passmethecrisps · 19/08/2012 22:12

waiting I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have spent my life with imposter syndrome and it turns out having a baby is no different.

Our cat is a total fur baby. She is an inside cat and has real routine. She is also at least 11 years old and terribly restrained (apart from right now as she is going mental chasing daddy long legs). I have lost track of people telling me all about toxoplasmosis - they glaze over when I try to tell them actual fact.

I just don't get why people feel it's ok to say "oh, she'll be in the cot" or "she'll be dreadfully jealous" when they have no idea how it will be. WE have no idea how she will react but I know for certain that we are not the first people to have a cat AND a baby.

horsey do you get lots of 'advice' re your animals?

kissyfur · 19/08/2012 22:25

Our cat kept out of the way of DD from the start really! Think she likes her peace and quiet Smile

Evilwater · 19/08/2012 22:29

Well what a awful day I've had. Today has been a very bad day!
First my sore back woke me up an hour earlier than I had to be, I went downstairs to find last nights curry that arrived very late (think 10pm) still on the side!
So I get to work, and it's boiling hot. To find our boss has cancelled her shift, and hasn't got anyone to cover her. Just great. So I struggle on, and do what I can. Lunch comes and the lady incharge of the food says that only half her order has arrived, and the hospital is on emergency power. So only our oven is working on my level, so I better hurry up and get something from the restaurant for our patients. I get down there and the bloke serving moans at me, cause he hasn't got enought food for the orders so far. Luckily I he has what I need.

The rest of the shift is ok, but my back hurts, and my ankles have disappeared. I get home and immdetiatly tell my DP I've had a bad day, so I go and have a shower, to cool off.
I walk or should I say limp downstairs to find he's cleaned up his mess, and he is sat in the garden sat neatly on the seat! Grin

JaffaSnaffle · 20/08/2012 04:29

Thanks for the welcome and for adding me to the stats thread.

Gives tits and Kirrin a wave!

Well, I can't sleep. My mind is racing. Generally, I'm ok, although my hips are bad if I walk too much, and my heartburn has reached the persistent phase....

passme and waiting, we have s cat and were made anxious by comments when my DD was due. She's been surprisingly lovely. If my DD cries, ( even now when she's 2), the cat come running and purrs for her. I have been so grateful for it on a number of occasions, because she has managed to calm my DD down when I have failed.
When DD was a baby, we had a cat net on her Moses basket and cot, so we didn't have to worry about her jumping in if we were asleep or nipping out if the room for something. As DD has got older, it's been difficult in a different way in that we have had to be careful that DD doesn't grab at her or pull her tail etc, but I think this is something that we'd have gone through with any animal and is a good basis for learning about treating all animals with respect. She's a big part of my DD's family life, and they love each other.

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/08/2012 06:17

evil hope you have a better day today!

I've got my first growth scan this morning, can't wait to see my girly again Grin

TheDetective · 20/08/2012 06:55

Post night shift insomnia here :( went to bed at 2am, wide awake at 530. Lay here next to snoring bloody dp and snoring bastard dog. I'm starving and the house is devoid of any food.

I feel like crying. I'm so tired but just can't sleep. Bloody hate nights. I'm back in work on an early tomorrow.

Roll on maternity leave

horseylady · 20/08/2012 08:44

Not really. Then again people who know me, know my thoughts etc. I wouldn't let my cats sleep in or on any of the baby stuff, but they're not allowed upstairs anyway. Thankfully it's all up there. The same with the dogs. At the same time the baby when he's old enough will learn to respect the animals and their space. And not to pet them unless they want petting.

The horses will get on with it, theyre away from home, the chickens will be fine!!

People constantly say how hard it will be etc etc but they say that about everything!! It will be life changing, but I'd hope for the better or why do people keep doing it?!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 20/08/2012 08:56

I find it bizarre that people like to inform expectant parents/animal owners/whatever of all the bad things. No one ever says "ah yes, it might be hard but think of all the lovely times" we are a strange breed us humans Grin

applepieinthesky · 20/08/2012 09:24

Passmethecrisps I have had the same kind of comments about my dog. About how difficult it?s going to be and how the dog will be jealous etc. I?m sure millions of people have animals and babies and they all manage just fine. Why do people put obstacles there when there aren?t any?

Hope you are being checked out stuntnun

Welcome jaffa Smile

Does anybody else?s muscles on their top inner thighs really ache? I guess it?s normal but really annoying when I go to turn at night and can?t because of the pain.

horseylady · 20/08/2012 09:54

I just hate negativity!! I think it's really sad. I'm always told that I'm not even a glass half full it'll always be 3/4 full I'm that optimistic :) I try to look on the bright side of life!! I also always try to help people where possible but it can get to me when people don't help themselves or wallow.

Anyway, I'm sure all dogs and cats will be fine and adapt to the small people.

Catbag · 20/08/2012 09:56

I've had cats since I was 10, and aside from the fact that they really do love sleeping in moses baskets/car seats/piles of freshly wahed baby clothes and blankets, I've never had a problem with them. I have been a little paranoid about them getting on top of babies in the night, but then they are not allowed to sleep in our room or the baby's room so it's not really a problem.

The only problem that I did have was with my dog when I was pregnant with my youngest, and that was more to do with her breed (Border Collie) and the fact that I was the centre of her universe. She was a rescue case (in my opinion) that I had bought from a woman who lived in a shoebox sized flat in Peterlee and it became clear to me over the course of the first couple of days that she had been mistreated. The first walk that we went out on, I said 'wait' as a car approached and she flattened herself to the floor, looking panicked, and was always frightened of men. Anyway, to cut a long story short, as I got more and more pregnant I found it difficult to take her out as much as I had done, so DH and kids did it, and this upset her greatly. She became really clingy and started snapping at my youngest, amongst other things, really trying to be in the middle of everything all the time. We decided the kindest thing to do was to re-home her and, after a month of vetting people, we found a lovely woman who was absolutely besotted with her animals and Mollie went to live with her. That was almost five years ago, and we still keep in touch. It was absolutely the kindest thing we could have done for her and the problems were as a result of her personality and her breed (super intelligent), rather than the fact that she was a dog. I'm pretty sure that if I'd had a slightly less bright dog, it wouldn't have been a problem at all.

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/08/2012 10:01

Scan went well, growth is just over 50th centile so not small!

Dh decided to go the loo right before the scan and missed it all, while ds sat on the chair panicking because I was lying on the bed and he didn't know what was going on so I couldnt get a good look at her but she had her hand up by her face.

Catbag · 20/08/2012 10:03

Good news on sizings there DH21!

StuntNun · 20/08/2012 10:07

I have a suspected UTI so I'm to leave a urine sample at the GPs for analysis. Hold in your jealously ladies, I will be given a brand new piss pot!

Detective does that post-night shift insomnia happen a lot? It sounds awful.

What's the problem with cats then? I'm a relative newcomer to the world of cat ownership. Aside from the toxoplasmosis thing (I made DH replace all the sand in the sandpit after she pooed in it one time when DS2 left the lid off), I thought the only risk was the cat sleeping on the baby and potentially causing suffocation. Are there other issues as well?

OP posts:
horseylady · 20/08/2012 10:08

I think that's the key cat you have to do right by your animals. I can't see any of mine having an issue. Both dogs are soft and kind and while I'm sure they'll be unsure of the baby, they've had children round them before and never been an issue. Neither of them are attached hugely to either my husband or I, so as long as one of us walks them, they'll be happy. The cats do their own thing whatever!! I just think it's sad that people automatically assume that as youre having a baby, you should rehome all your animals.
