We have used family names as middle names, with one from each side so nobody gets offended, and used our Grandparents names, long deceased. With our son, we will be using FILs name as he is gone too, and my Dad, although still living, to be fair. We will probably combine the two though, Ian and John as they mean the same, thus calling junior Eoin, which also means the same. Not totally decided.

Braden is the latest offering from DH. Pronounced BRAY den.

YellowWellies · 16/08/2012 13:21

I'm ok!!! Sorry just been offline whilst having family up to visit. Belly was rock hard for 50 hours and dissipated - why - just as we arrived at the maty to see the midwife.... GRRRRRR sodding little tinker!!!! Have established that it's not premature labour, nor an infection but the baby seems to have a knack / liking for sitting low down, head engaged on my cervix which is triggering BHs. Seems to be linked to my seating arrangements at work so will need to rethink... Midwife had to teach me a position to unengage the baby (hands and knees - arse in the air, chest on the floor) which is amusing as most Mums I know are trying to get the wee one to engage. Not sure I fancy doing this in the office though!!

MissMummy1 · 16/08/2012 13:30

Glads all good yw! Had a feeling the family were just keeping you busy as Maria hadn't said anything.

apple it's pronounced olly but with more of an emphasis on the o bit (aw-lee). I'm scottish and dh is from northern ireland so it's quite a strong ulster scots name!

DonnaDoon · 16/08/2012 14:02

Has anyone else been given calcium tablets by their midwife? I have never been given them in previous pregnancies so must be quite new here...anyway you have to chew them not swallow whole ...they taste like lemon chalk and are bigger than a penny but smaller than a 2p...not the worst thing Ive tasted but remembering them once a day is a bit of a chore.

I had calcium tablets from the GP from the beginning, calcium and Vit D I think ...

Chunkychicken · 16/08/2012 14:35

Just taking my pg multivit here - didn't with DD but then didn't really 'try' with her. Wanted to ensure we concieved etc esp after an early mc the mth before this bean. MW/GP didn't say anything about vit D or prescribe folic acid as I was already taking that.

Would love to use family names but its just too political with DH's divorced parents etc. Didn't want to get into a naming war!! Wink Esp as DH is an only child.

FatimaLovesBread · 16/08/2012 15:20

Just weighed myself on the industrial scales at work. Finally put some weight on. I think I must have lost it from other areas at first, up to 24 weeks I'd put on a grand total of 3.5lbs, since then in the last 10 days I've put on 4.5lb!! Shock it's mainly all bump and boobs that have stacked it on so not too bad.

ValiumQueen · 16/08/2012 16:11

Saw MW and all fine except measuring 33 at 29. They said they will scan me as I may be having a big baby. I said I was already getting a scan at 34 weeks, and I would be having a big baby! I do big babies. Had the GTT talk. If bloods are off I will need to go again. I have had 3x GTTs and they have all been fine! Never had sugar in my wee! Grr! Glad all is well though. Boy was kicking the MW with great enthusiasm.

FatimaLovesBread · 16/08/2012 17:08

Oooh my friend who's a sonography has just rung, her friend is practising 3d scanning so I get to go be practiced on! Grin
We weren't goin to have a 3d scan but if it's a freebie, even better!!

ValiumQueen · 16/08/2012 17:29

I expect you could round up a few guinea pigs for her on MN!

daisychain76 · 16/08/2012 17:30

Lucky you fatima. Really glad you are ok YW.

Going back to cravings - mine is for a smell, rather than a food! (Which I blame on a recent MN thread which set me off thinking about it). It is that smell you get from a damp, natural sponge. Or when you're in a damp cellar or attic. All gorgeous and musty. Spent 10 minutes just breathing deeply in some toilets yesterday just cos I discovered they had said smell and the same in some stairs at a huge car park the day before! (Don't have a natural sponge and too mean to pay 11 pounds in Boots to buy one!)

rowingdowntheriver · 16/08/2012 17:59

Hi everyone, just dropping in to share my news and will catch up on everyone else's once I've put DS to bed. I was made redundant today. Was a huge surprise but on balance probably a good thing for me.

ValiumQueen · 16/08/2012 18:09

Gosh rowing what a shock. Good that you can possibly see a positive to this already.

daisy that is weird Grin

Peaky1 · 16/08/2012 18:16

YW Thank gawd for that! Typical that the problem magically disappears when you try to produce the evidence.

Ah that's a brill opportunity Fatima! I'm very jealous as I'd love to have another sneak peek.

Sorry to hear about your job Rowing. I hope you're right and that it paves the way to pastures new and better :)

StuntNun · 16/08/2012 18:29

Bad news Rowing. Do you still have to have a consultation period or is that the end of it? Are you still entitled to your SMP?

Evilwater · 16/08/2012 19:09

Rowing are you going to be ok?????

Yellow Welles, I think your little one wants to come out.

rowingdowntheriver · 16/08/2012 19:13

Thanks for the messages. Technically I'm 'at risk' and have a 30 day consultation period. After that I should apparently work 1/2 of my notice period then finish on Oct 6th which funnily enough is when I was due to finish anyway. I've been told that I may not need to work that if I manage to hand over everything earlier.

I've seen a provisional redundancy amount but told them I want it uplifted to additionally include what I would have got as maternity leave (which was 12 weeks pay plus 27 weeks SMP) and that I also want it calculated as if i was full time even though am only part time. My reason being I have been with the company 7 years and I've only been part time for 4 months.

I'm waiting to hear back on the mat pay but they have agreed to calculate based on my full time salary. I'm hoping for a fair payout as, without going into too many boring details, they are on pretty dodgy grounds IMO.

It really is a blessing as I didn't want to go back to the company after this baby as I have become increasingly disillusioned with it and the industry in general. This way I'll be in no worse position financially but could end up better off.

It does feel a bit like being dumped though. I know I wanted it to end but it's not nice being the dumpee!

I'll come back later this evening to catch up on everyone else's news.

Passmethecrisps · 16/08/2012 19:18

What a shock rowing. It is good that you can see an upside but it must still be a terrible shock.

Hooray for YW being fine. So typical that it went away as soon as you got to the midwife.

Can barely string a coherent thought together never mind post something which makes any sense. I am so knackered today.

Right, am off for my tea. See ya!

DesperateHousewife21 · 16/08/2012 19:35

rowing sorry about the redundancy, hopefully you'll get what you're hoping for. Will you go back to a different job when the baby is older?

mrswee · 16/08/2012 20:01

Hello all

Well... after my interview on monday I was told yesterday I didn't get the job but I did get the next position down. It's very mixed feelings for me. It's still a good job, still a good step up and less pressure than the one I went for, which is probably a blessing at this point.. The job I went for was massive, but I know I could have done it.
Guess who did get the job? The 24 year old who is junior to me and has only been with the company 2 years, I've been there almost 13. I have managment experiance, he has none. He is only there because he covered my maternity 2 years ago and got kept on after. So yeah I'm a bit pissed off cause that's what happens when you have a baby.. people look at you differently in the work place.

rowing good luck with getting them over a barrel and them paying you what you asked for. It's the least you deserve.

YW glad you are ok. Very interesting what your midwife said because I wonder if that's what happening to me when I get the tightenings I've been having. I feel a sore pressure on my cervix when I get them and I have found hands on knees bum in the air, really helps the pain.. not sure how I descovered that but I was desperate! I am going to mention this all to the consultant the next tiem I see her.

Chunkychicken · 16/08/2012 20:18

Bad news Rowing fingers crosses you get the financial outcome you want.

Very very glad you are ok YW

Glad things are ok VQ but it is annoying that they don't seem to register the facts rather than your BMI as it were.

MrsWee that's so annoying & seems a little unlikely that a less experienced & less qualified person would get a job over you, without your maternity leave (either previously or currently) being a factor, but provng

Chunkychicken · 16/08/2012 20:20

^proving it is another thing entirely!!!

Feel huge today - like bump has grown overnight!!! Keep meaning to attempt to measure bump & see whether it does get bigger Hmm

mrswee · 16/08/2012 20:44

Yep, there is no way I can prove it, but all colleagues are like Shock and Hmm
However, I still got a promotion and I am gutted I can't get a little drunk to celebrate!!

CandyPop · 16/08/2012 20:48

sorry to hear rowing.
congrats jaycee on your new niece!
and glad your okay yw

baby has been kicking like mad the last two days.... tummy feels very heavy and big....def feels like another growth spur is going on. Really cannot see how much more i can take.... belly seems to have stretch to its max and i'm only 26+5! Have my 28 week appointment next friday so intrigued on seeing whether shes bigger than normal! she was bang on average the in the 12 week and 20th scan.

My bubba also has a bit of attitude! i was leaning on my tummy earlier and she started kicking my elbow like shes saying 'get off my a roof' sort of thing . So rude!! lol
